I used to like Thee Parkside. It fed my dive bar fetish while letting me listen to live music ranging from "OK" all the way down to music so bad it would make Jesus slit his wrists (if they weren't already nailed down). But the point is it didn't matter to me. I like live music, cheap beer, and hot tattooed chicks. When I was here, I was at peace. But last time they got all shady on me. I rolled over for a going away shindig and we were there early, like 6pm. I had called ahead and they said "Yea, there is live music tonight with cover but if you're already in, then you're in". Sweet, sounded like a plan. So imagine the shock I was in when the guy at the door walks over and says "yo, shows about to come on so everyone here needs to fork over $10". Are you kidding me? There were about 15 of us there at this point. How many people were there NOT with our party, ready to rock for what I assume was going to be a suck ass show? About 7. A fifth grader can do the math. Scaring away 15 booze guzzling customers who have been eating and drinking for hours is just poor business. Especially since I called ahead and got the all clear earlier. I shared my dismay with the sexy tatted bartender of the night and she fully agreed. Hope you enjoyed your 7 customers that night Parkside, we took our asses up the block and blew another $400 easy. - Locale Destination - It's on 17th and Wisconsin St in Potrero Hill, SF. Inside is very dark, old, small and run-down. Very casual dive bar (I'm very nice to say that..). Slow service. Bar seemed sort of cool. They have shows, photobooth, ping pong table (outside) etc. Cash only! ATM inside. Street parking. - Gluttony Expedition - Prohibition Ale: It was a bitter with a very light body. I'm not a fan of this type of beer. - Conqueror's Deduction - People here were all "price conscious" - everyone asked the bartender "which one was the cheapest beer?" It's kinda weird to see that. The draft was $6, which was very expensive for this type of run-down dive bar WITHOUT a cool atmosphere - especially in SF. My boy Julian and I rolled to Thee Parkside after Yelps Big Daddy Party. Its a nice Lo Key Bar. They usually have live bands playing ,but didn't that night. Julian and I rolled up to the Bar . The Bar Mistress was quite nice and friendly. We ordered a few beers and chilled out. They were playing the Movie Friday on the TV. Coolness. The Cool thing about Thee Parkside is that they also have a built in Snack Bar. I ordered a Cubano Sammich and Garlic Fries . My Boy Julian ordered Garlic Fries and Fried Pickles. They had our food to us in 15 minutes and it was quite Yummy. I will definitely return and catch a show. read more

This might just be my favorite dive bar in town. 1 star for being able to park across the street, which is standard for Potrero Hill 1 star for having Blue Moons! My favorite beer of all time. 1 star for having the coolest back patio that can smoke "outside" while still technically being inside. 1 star for having a cool crowd -1 star for the bathroom, I am very sorry I had to pee that night, Yikes the bathroom was almost as bad as Zeitgeist I saw my friends band play live here, and it was so much fun. What a great way to spend a Wednesday evening, hanging with friends, drinking Blue Moons and listening to some awesome live music. I haven't been here on the weekend, but I heard it gets packed and I can imagine why. If I lived in the area this would be the shpot to be at. They only take cash which I get a little mad about, considering it's a bar and who knows, maybe I want leave my tab open... which ultimately ends up never being a good thing. This is an awesome hole in the wall. You'll walk in, take a look at the dingy bar, look at the sticky-looking floor, order some anchor steam, and walk through the door to the back. I would have never expected such a large patio. In the back, there is a plethora of seating but to your surprise, most of it will be full. Then there is a little crummy window with a dude making food. We opted for the tater tots with cheese, chili, and bacon on top (you can add bacon to ANYTHING for $1). Awesome! Cash only. This is a really chill spot with hipster galore, and a lot of happy hour seeking professionals around 5-7p. Thumbs up!! read more

Now that I've been to Thee Parkside, I know that... 1. A band called 3 Inches of Blood sounds exactly as you'd expect. And they rock. 2. These are some of the cheapest drinks in SF. Also, Fernet is on the menu everywhere in SF, even if you're drinking it out of plastic cups. 3. Metalheads are the nicest people on the planet. Not only will they pick you up after they knock you down in the moshpit, but they are exceptionally generous with their marijuana cigarettes as well. The latter is strictly an observation, of course. 4. If the show is opened by a band called Huntress, at one point the Huntress herself might scream, "How many of you are having buttsex tonight?!" To which the only appropriate reaction is to go wild. 5. This bar has tater tots. If those five items aren't worth five stars, nothing is. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Service here was the slowest I've ever experienced and the food was absolutely not worth the wait. My coworkers and I decided to try out this place for lunch since it's only a block away. We ordered our food at 12:30 and I didn't get my order until 1:30. (I am currently writing this review as half my table (4/7 people) have not received their orders). I ordered the grilled chicken panini and it was possibly the worst meal of my life. First, the sandwich is really small compared to everything else on the menu for the same price. The ciabatta bread it came in was so hard it cut the top of my mouth. There were 2 measly strips of chicken (maybe, and I had to look really hard for it). The whole thing was disgusting and tasted like cardboard. The tater tots were passable, thank goodness. At this point (1:40) my coworkers still haven't received their orders (and they just ordered tater tots! They shouldn't take an hour to make!) This place is absolutely horrible. Unlike most seedy bars that rank like dank, Thee Parkside offers a thick, hearty smell of "fried" - that's from the tater tots everyone yelps about - along with a rich, herbal aroma I can't put my finger on juuuuust yet ... ;) Bartenders were fast and friendly - shot out to the blonde chick in the back whose dad hails from Austin - crowd was chill, acoustics weren't bad ... even with all the screaming ... There's an ATM on site if you need some cash for the bar or band/cover charge, merchandise, photobooth... The only setback for me was the restroom. It's wasn't bad, but there was no mirror! Parkside is how I imagine Zeitgeist was before it hit the Lonely Planet lists. Parkside a divy cash-only bar that often has live music. The beer selection is generally interesting - about 15 options with something for everything from hazys to hard kombucha. Pitchers are around $21. Walk out back to the huge outdoor patio. I randomly stopped in here with some friends. I thought, that's interesting, you don't see many dive bars with a roasted cauliflower soup. Then I saw Chef Josie walk by, and it made a little more sense. We hung out on the patio, and enjoyed the divey ambience. We sampled a basic cheeseburger (with tater tots) and the roasted cauliflower soup. The tater tots were seasoned and fried nicely, the burger was solid, and we enjoyed the soup. Hey guys, I'm not going to judge this place on it's ability to do live music. It's just not my thing. I'm rating Thee Parkside for its other services! Food and Beer! I play softball on the field cross the street from this bar. I've played for a few years there without ever going across the street. I had to use the facilities and with much surprise I saw they had a kitchen... never knew. I looked at their menu and was surprised to see pulled pork sandwich.... It's not the small hotdog or crappy hamburger bar food you'd normally see. I decided to get the sandwich and tater tots for 5 bones (daily special). I added a beer to that and I was VERY surprised and happy. This is a great place to hang out during the day when you've got friends playing in the field across the street. I recommend it. read more

A free show to hear local music is what I've been looking for in a bar. Check it out every Saturday from 3-7pm. I had a great time last weekend and I'll be back in the very near future. I came here last night for a private Planned Parenthood benefit (my body, my choice, jags) that my friend invited me to like a month earlier and in that time I did absolutely no research into what type of place Thee Parkside was or any details about the event. My friend had sent me several links and emails regarding the ticketed event that I, of course, completely ignored and did not even try to skim over. On the day of, I asked my friend if I could wear yoga pants and what was technically only half a shirt to the event and her response, in a nutshell, 'your body, your choice'. So between my friends being the coolest and Planned Parenthood providing all the incredible services they do, the odds of me having a really fucking rad time were in Thee Parkside's favor. TL;DR I had a really fucking rad time We showed up, we partook in what I thought was the perfect number of (cash only FYI) $5 Palomas until I woke up the next morning and was like, oh god, there's a 50/50 chance I'm gonna barf up my antidepressant as soon as I take it. But guess what? Held that fucker down and went on to live a fairly productive day that only involved 2 very mild food-related depression naps. So my experience was technically a special event but essentially it was just Thee Parkside being regular but you had to buy a ticket where the fee went to Planned Parenthood, they had some local vendors selling rad hair supplies, bad ass jewelry (added a rad black and gold ring to my current stacks), vintage vendors (big ups to Mercy Vintage for the white mesh shirt I picked up that I 100% only plan on wearing an offset colored bra underneath - again, my body, my choice), and a station with raffle tickets for some cool salon giveaways where the money raised went entirely to PP. The stage was used for fun beauty demos and even though it was p much impossible to hear anything that was said, the crowd was rad, and the old timey photo booth (that does take card) made my friend and I look like sexy heathens (except for the first photo bc there was no warning that the flash was about to go off and I'm 100% talking and mouth-breathing in it). The front bar was packed for most of the night but they had a second more limited bar set up outside and the bartender guys was soooo cool and nice and def sauced up our palomas maybe more than I needed... as it turned out the next morning. There's picnic benches on the back covered patio area and they have a cash only kitchen that was actually super vegetarian friendly. My friend and I split a tofu banh mi and a basket of cajun tots since they were out of... well, out of a lot of shit that we wanted (fries, melty cheese, avocado) but what we did get was either fucking phenomenal or pretty good and we were just the right amount sauced to overly appreciate it. I'm not often in this area but there's a nice park across the street and p good sushi place up the block that my friend and I dig so Thee Parkside is gonna go down as a spot that's officially in the rotation when we have Potrero Hill adventures. Oh and they played hella Lou Reed which I have a real thing for so that was a real icing on the cake type of scenario. read more

This is a nice spot to sit down and chill. Came here with my friends and had a a drink while we did some work. The staff here is really nice and welcoming. We ended up ordering carne asada tots while we sat outside. I would recommend this place if you're trying to do some work around noon or early afternoon because it's really quiet in the back patio. read more

Ok I don't know how often people are out in Portrero Hill unless you live there but this bar I would drive out for. Any bar with a ping pong table and photobooth gets my vote. They also have BBQ during the day which was delicious with my beer. I will say I've never come down on a Saturday evening and hung out at the Thee Parkside but its great for a Saturday/Sunday afternoon when the weather is nice. Thee Parkside also doubles as a punk/rock-a-billy/hard rock independent club. You should check who is playing before you head down. I did come on a Thursday evening once and there was a frog and a fly getting down in the middle of the room, I hesitate to call it a dancefloor. After more research I learned they were mascots for a local softball tourney. My point, its a dive bar, with a local flair. If that's not your style, you may want to go else where. read more

Divey indeed. I love it! Thee Parkside is a really cool bar in Potrero Hill. I would have never, ever step foot in here if it wasn't fo checking out a really cool band called, The Wayside State (Sara and Erin rock!), last night. Sunday starting at 4pm, free admission with awesome tunes! Beers on tap (Blue Moon, baby!) and other alcoholic beverages, food (burgers and fries) and a great crowd. Outdoor patio with picnic tables in the back and there's also a photo-booth inside. According to their website, Raw Power Happy Hour is 4-7pm Every Day, but when we got to the bar, the bartender informed us that Happy hour is only Monday-Friday, $3 beers and well drinks. It's dark, loud, and a little grungy. Which is exactly what you should expect when entering a small local dive bar with live music and tater tots on the menu. They often have beer/shot specials, which are usually fun. The staff has been pleasant every time I've eaten there. The outdoor patio is almost-enclosed, which takes the bite out of cold summer nights. Thee Parkside, like most SF bars nowadays, has chosen to become obnoxious about IDs - I'm 44, bouncer, you can glance at my ID and let me in.... no need to examine it like it's rare art. The tall lanky security guard with the pubic hair beard got into a fist-fight with a member of the Green Day camp, refusing to let him in to play HIS show. He didn't think he was part of the Cover-Ups...the headlining act. Half the audience witnessed this and were yelling at him to let the guy in. Real professional! It was worth it for me to get kicked out of the show halfway through, for calling him a douchebag to his face. I just walked around and got back in through the back door anyway. Oops. The heavyset Hispanic "bouncer" also kept people away from the front of the stage, so that his girlfriend could have a good spot to take videos all night. Ever consider maybe wearing a shirt or hat that says you're a bouncer, so that we can react to your attitude properly? If you're going to make a band-only area, then rope it off. Don't just secure the area with your body, and pushing people away without telling them why, while wearing no shirt or hat to designate yourself as an employee of the venue. You're just asking for trouble, and trouble is what you got. On the flippity flip, it was an amazing show, totally kind bar staff, and the crowd was into it and well-behaved. read more

The staff here is the best! Came with my mother to see my brothers band, Berthold City perform. We were standing in the back but left the room when it became a mosh pit. The woman Melia who had been at the door asked us if we wanted to watch the show from beyond the bar and she provided us with earplugs and everything! I have learned not to depend on the kindness of strangers and this gesture made me delighted. I went here before going to a Giants game for a few beers and some food so that I didn't have to eat at AT&T park for an arm and a leg. Despite it being a bit chilly outside we did in fact sit in the outdoor patio which was covered so it make the experience extremely comfortable. We arrived around 6pm so it was still happy hour so our beers were $5. We also ordered the chicken banh mi and the carne asada tots...both were flavorful and fresh! However i will say that my friend did receive a kind of sketchy avocado but avocado is avocado so you eat around it (it's too precious to waste!) I would definitely love to come here again! I haven't been to a dive bar in a while and this place is pretty dive-y. I was excited to find out that they had a watermelon flavored Kombucha. I was sad to find out that it was part beer and I'm not a beer fan. Not knowing that part, I ordered it anyways and it pretty much tasted like a beer with the most subtle hint of watermelon. I don't really know what to think about the place. It was just a space with a few high tables and chairs. I think there was a patio as well if you wanted to smoke.
