I have established my favorite dish as the bacon fried rice. Today, I ordered it with squid and it tastes delicious. To drink I had an Arnold Palmer with unsweet tea. While we waited for our meal, the server recognized us from the last time we were here. I like that kind of customer service where people greet you with a smile and make it a point to mention they remember people. I immediately asked for fried calamari and my wife ordered a Thai tea, which was phenomenal, as per her words. My wife ordered a tofu curry. This totally met my need for some good Asian food. The restaurant is not large, but it is well decorated and the staff rocks. The owner is attentive and seems to be the bus boy, water boy. They really seem to care. Started off with a standard California roll. It tasted good, but not as cold as I'm used to. The wasabi was extremely good and their version of the ginger slices was a treat. I went with the Thida Thai Fried Rice and fell in love. The rice was good but the bacon add was just genius. I enjoyed the cashews and chicken. The weird little pork pieces didn't do it for me, maybe that was their sausage. If so, I wouldn't do that again. 3.5 because I think it's better than average. This was our first time at the new location/ new owner. I really loved the layout. It's beautiful and has a nice bar with outdoor seating, as well. You walk in, and wait to get seated. It was too hot a day to sit outside so we sat indoors. It wasn't busy when we came. We were probably the 3rd/4th table there. The service wasn't slow. They had pretty good timing with when they brought their food out. Starting off with the drinks, I tried their Thai coffee. It came out in a very large glass, and you just have to stir it around to get the creamer mixed in. The coffee flavor itself, I didn't feel like it tasted very strong. Possibly too much ice or water because it tasted slightly watered down, but not bad. Next I tried the steamed dumpling for my appetizer. It came out beautifully and it was steamed perfectly. The taste itself, wasn't bad. The sauce that came out with it, wasn't quite up my alley. It was thick, and very sweet. It's a little different from other dumpling sauces I've had, but it wasn't bad. Next was the fried chicken wings and papaya salad. I requested for Laos style papaya salad, but I guess here, you don't get to pick a spice level. It came out without any spice, and it also had no juice or sauce in it. It had a little bit of sauce on the bottom. The taste wasn't bad, but it wasn't Lao style. It tasted more so like, American style papaya salad. The chicken wings weren't bad either. Seemed like it was deep fried with tempura batter. It tasted mediocre to me. Next was the crispy duck. I didn't think it was a bad dish. It came out beautifully. I think the chef did great with the food presentation. The duck itself tasted pretty ok, but the sauce wasn't quite up my alley. The sauce wasn't bad, but a little too heavy on the sugar for me. The sauce was poured all over the crispy duck and it was served with a side of rice. The rice itself wasn't bad, either. Stopped by while driving through on our road trip. Nashville was way too crowded and long waits/ full reservations, being that it's New Year's Eve. So we went a bit past the city and found this spot. It wasn't too busy when we showed up about 5, but we saw they had many to go orders, and other people started to come in as well. Nice atmosphere, friendly host and server. Prompt greeting and water, order taking, etc. They have a Thai menu and Japanese menu in one, it seems. I saw a sushi chef in the back, and the sushi did look good. Usually when places try to do more than one type of food, I'm skeptical... lol, but it seems people like the Japanese food as well. I saw many interesting bento box combos of Thai and Japanese mixed-- wish I could've tried some! We ordered the steamed dumplings (shumai), and pan fried gyoza (potstickers). Either have the choice to be steamed or fried, which is nice. Both were good, but dumplings tasted better to me. My son liked the gyoza better though. We ordered the Tom Kha sooo a chicken (coconut soup). It was good, but no amazing. We've had a lot of this over the years, and this one was just okay. We ordered the Thai basil fried rice w chicken. It was very tasty! Good flavors. I wanted to try the curries. I saw many people order that. Next time if we pass through! It did the trick for a quick dinner. Light and fresh. My wife and I ate lunch at Thida Thai twice in a two week period. Both times, we were shown to our tables, given menus and bowls of a tasty chicken rice soup. Both times, we ordered Crab Rangoons as an appetizer. On the first visit, the shell was perfectly baked and was filled to overflowing with a filling of crab meat and its friends. The second time, the crust was slightly over baked and the filling was not as generous as before. Both times, my lunch dish was the Pad Thai Chicken. Delicious Pad Thai noodles were the star on my first visit. On the second, the decorative plating, by itself, made the meal a winner. My wife's Pad Thai Bento Box looked good, but I didn't get a bite. Surprisingly, crème brulée was on the dessert menu and we couldn't pass it up. Mine was pretty good. That was pretty much the story of Thida Thai restaurant-pretty good but not spectacular. Four stars for them. read more

"Give me that stuff that funk that sweet that funky stuff (say what)..." All right, anyone who knows me knows that I have a love of Asian food. Ok, it's probably more of an obsession, but don't judge me. Odds are that the more "unique" the flavor or ingredients, the more I'll love it (any stinky tofu lovers in the house???). I often have Asian restaurateurs stare me down in amazement at my willingness to eat everything - I really have no limit. Now, let me climb down off of my, "Worlds Most Interesting Man" bar stool. So, I've been jonesing like Pookie for some Tom Yum soup and of course I had to go to the Thai food capital of the US, Smyrna, TN...I'm kidding, I think. I found this place based on the Yelp reviews - thanks Yelp - and time-honored tradition of elimination known as "flip of the coin". The restaurant is small, but in a quaint way. The staff were very prompt, polite and addressed me as soon as I opened the door. I ordered Tom Yum soup with shrimp, mango and sticky rice and fried tofu. Without further ado, lets get to the review (droppin' 16 bars). Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp | This soup was everything I could have wanted in my Tom Yum Soup. First, it had a LOT of LARGE shrimp, which is the first thing that places want to cheat you out of. Second, It was the perfect mixture of sour, sweet and savory. I don't know which brand of fish sauce that they use, but I need a bottle ASAP so I can put that ish on everything. Third, it was inexpensive for the amount that I got - around $12. Mango and Sticky Rice | They didn't hit me with a slice of mango, oh no, they hit me with a whole half of the mango. In my suburban travels I don't believe that I've ever seen a whole half of a mango on the rice...maybe Smyrna is trying to be a competitor in this arena. The rice was perfectly soft and warm and the coconut sauce was divine. Even the newly 1 year old nephew rolled over in his walker and shook me down like Deebo for some of this delectable dessert. Fried Tofu | Eh, not where they shined, but that's my fault. I really wanted some tofu and this isn't where I should have gone for my fix. The tofu was fried and that's it. It wasn't seasoned with anything, just fried. It had a sweet sauce and peanuts, but to quote Randy Jackson, "it's a no for me, dog". I have been to Thida Thai a couple of times now. I have to say that their Chicken Satay is amazing (the peanut sauce is some of the best I've ever had). The potstickers are also very good and come with a coconut curry sauce of some kind in the bottom of the dish which is different but tasty. Tonight I had the red curry with fried tofu which was amazing and the Tom Yum Goong (hot & sour soup with shrimp). And to finish it off I took some mango and sweet rice home for later. Everything was very good. I also like the fact that they have an amazing sushi list. Just about everything you could imagine. They have a nice sized patio which you can enjoy on those cooler spring and fall evenings. If you are a fan of Asian cuisine as I am, You really should give this place a try. I ordered takeout Fried Rice and Calamari for dinner. When the food arrived, it was warm and I had high hopes. I began with the calamari thinking at $11 it would be fresh, frame freshly battered. However, it was straight out of the freezer section at the grocery store with the coating you would find on cheap onion rings in the freezer section. I had hope for the fried rice; however it was as disappointing, if not more so than the calamari. The "fried rice" looked and tasted like it was steamed rice that had vegetables added as an afterthought. The shrimp was dry, tough, and tasted old. Omgggggg!!!! Soooo good! I honestly don't even really like Thai food but my boyfriend does and he was excited to try out this new-to-us place in Smyrna. We were both SO impressed!! He ordered his usual drunken noodles to compare to his old favorite place. He took one bite and immediately deemed this place his new favorite spot. The flavors and spice level was on point! I ordered the crab fried rice and was in heaven! It comes with two huge tempura shrimp on top. It was so much food, I was able to eat lunch for the next two days as well!! Also, it's worth noting that when we ordered to-go food several days later, it was packed well. Foil on the bottom and parchment paper packed tightly around the top so as not to release the steam and keep the food hot. Our food was hot for HOURS in that little to go box. I was VERY impressed with this technique and wish more restaurants would do it this way. TL/DR: 9/10, not very social distant dine-in situation, but incredible food and v effective to-go packaging. There is a Laotian food section on the menu, but I had my jones on for Thai so the Lao food will have to wait. The food is acceptable and portion sizes are generous. The sweet tea is VERY sweet and I asked for some unsweet tea to dilute it. The Pad Kee Mao was well balanced between noodles, veggies and meat. I ordered pork; other options include beef and chicken. They didn't ask me how spicy and I forgot to say, so my food was cooked at a 2 out of 5 on the hotness scale.
