This is not specifically to this store. I ordered some products online for my parent's Christmas gifts. I received email saying one of my product I ordered was out of stock so I can't purchase the item. I received that email on 23rd which is ONE WEEK after I ordered. Other products were supposed to arrive today, on 24th and one of them did but one product was missing. Called them and they said the item missing hasn't even shipped yet and not gonna be delivered till after Christmas. I have a flight to catch and I have no time to get alternative gifts for them. visited store I needed an urgent pick up and store was closed for 1 Hr from 6:10-7:10 which I was not informed of when I called if my items were ready for pick up today. You should have on the website lunch hours closed so this does not happen, I really needed gifts for a family member that does not leave in town and I was going to see today. This place is really expensive, but I was able to buy an item off line and have it engraved and picked up in 1 day. The associate was very polite and unwrapped the item when I came to pick it up before I left with it. It was customized as instructed. So I came here for an xmas present. I came in kinda knowing what I wanted, but wasn't sure. Granted the day I went was pretty crazy but no one even came over to help me out. I tried to flag down a lady to help me to no avail. She started then helping another customer, who she was having a good ol' time chatting with. When she was done,. I asked her to open a case so I could take a look at the item I was interested in. She opened the case and stood there. Didn't say a word to me. She didn't talk about similar products, engraving costs, nothing. I asked her if there were other similar products, curtly, she said no. I told her I was just going to get the one I had and wanted it engraved. She handed me a form and a book and told me what to fill out, only half paying attention to me. She said nothing about cost on engraving, so at that point I thought it must be included. So I fill out my form, put exactly what I want the engraving to look like, she confirmed the spelling of the name and told me to stand in line to pay. Great! She was a little curt, but in all it was an easy process. I get to the counter and the girl asked who helped me, i told her no one, as the lady who shoved the form at me, did not deserve commission on my sale cause I did everything myself. I've worked in sales, and if you aren't going to work for it, I'm not going to give it to you. Anyway, the lady ended up getting credit for my sale cause she came back over and said that she helped me out....whatever. When i got to check out they want to charge me $37, my item was only $20, so I ask them why it was so much. There is an engraving fee. I'm cool with this, however, I am not cool with the lady who was "helping" me no telling me that there is extra engraving costs even when you buy the item from their store. Although I do think that the engraving cost is a bit pricey, seeing as all they do is type into a Word -like program the message you want, and a machine engraves it. Fast forward to pick up. It was several days before xmas, I was happy to have my shopping done. I receive the item I selected, look at it, and the engraving is wrong. It is not positioned the way I drew it out. I tell the girl it isn't the way I want it, so they pull out my order form and they tell me they can re-do it that day, it would be a couple hours. It was already 7-ish, and I have nothing to do. Since that was all that was wrong, I decide just to take it as-is, not wanting to go back to the mall even closer to xmas. So I get home and I am looking at it, and one of the names is spelled wrong! I call up and they said that they could have another one waiting for me the next day. Fine, I get to go back to the mall, another day closer to xmas. Before I get off the call the lady made sure to add in that my handwriting is what caused the mistake! REALLY?!?! Does that need to be said. I understand if I am a bitch customer, but I made sure to be extremely nice! And I made them take out the sheet, and there is no way that my O looked like an A. Anyway, the switch out was relatively easy. All-in-all, there are cheaper engraving places you can go, and you can probably get better priced items else-where. I've already discouraged a from coming to this store. I'd avoid this place. read more

Today I was asked for some ideas from one of our Account Executives. She was looking for a gift for one of our long time clients who was changing to a new job. I immediately thought of Things Remembered and suggested a nice personalized pen and pencil set. We found exactly what would fit the occasion. The best part of this experience was working with Dora. Her store was the only one in San Diego who had stock in the model we wanted. I expressed to her that we needed the set personalized and shipped overnight to me so that we can present it to our client the next day. Dora was very professional, friendly and patient each time I called to check status. She obviously had a good working relationship with the UPS delivery person because he stopped in quickly and said he would be back to pick it up since it was not ready for pick up. I had barely created the UPS label and requested a pick up. Dora took the time to contact me to let me know that he showed up and would be back. Her professionalism and work ethic is to be commended. I later received status that the package was picked up and would be delivered tomorrow morning. This was a great example of knowing what your company is capable of delivering (not overpromising just to get the sale) and meeting the challenge. Thank you, Dora for making it happen! WORSE ONLINE PURCHASE! I wish I could rate this place a 0!! Don't purchase online!! I was looking for a personalized wallet for my son who is graduating from Navy boot camp & I was pressed with time. I was initially happy when I came across their websites which indicated there were like 6 items of sale wallet in stock. It took me about 30 minutes to complete the purchase & it allowed me to pick up the item the same day at the Plaza Bonita location. After 3-4 hrs later I called the store to endure it was ready before going. The attendant by the name of "Robbin" told me they had to find my order, then she said they could find the item in the store so she said they would look & call me back. I was irate at this point because I had already purchased the item online using my credit card. Shortly after "Robbin" called only to tell me they did not have the item in stock. I asked how can their website indicate they had 6 if those items in stock & I was able to pick it up the same day. She said they could cancel the order but at this point my bank account said "pending" on that purchase. She never said sorry or empathized as if this was a common occurrence for them. Save yourself the time & headache & don't order or shop at this location or website. read more

I had the need to visit Things Remembered in Plaza Bonita 4 times in the last month and every time I was very disappointed by the customer service. The store is understaffed and the clerks look and act stressed out and inpatient. The first time I went I left after 20 minutes waiting to be helped. On a different day, I finally was able to leave my order of 25 pens to be engraved (I bought the pens somewhere else) and they messed up 3 of them. Now they are telling me it will take WEEKS before I get them again. They did not even give me a receipt to prove they kept 3 of the pens I bought. When I demanded to get some sort of receipt, the clerk, Emily took offense and gave me an attitude. Very bad training of your staff, Things Remembered, I will remember that. read more

Enly had the worst customer service skills ever. I purchased an item online, came in, saw they were having buy one get one 75%off and she was unable to accommodate me with the second item although she was the manager. When I asked her she seemed very confused and unwilling to get the correct information regarding purchasing the second item and kept saying I don't know to getting it for 75% off. So the young Asian store associate here was not very nice at all. Sure she was all perky and accommodating while we were trying to pick out stuff, but when we came back to get the items we had her engrave, she didn't smile, she didn't say thank you (I was the one who said thank you to her), she didn't say anything. She just showed us the engravings and put them back in the box, then just handed the bag to me WITHOUT A WORD. Her body language pretty much said 'Get out of here, we're done with you.' The manager is really helpful. I came here on Valentine's Day and they were really busy. Like swamped. Dora showed me the picture frames and showed me the sayings that I can put on them. I chose the Vanessa font, yeah it was 3$ more but it stands out really well. the wait was 1 1/2 hours but I guess that's what happens when I waited last minute to get stuff. LOL it was kinda pricey but it was worth it and came out really pretty. ;-) Will def be back but I will plan ahead next time.Thanks Things Remembered!!! read more

I needed a gift and I wanted it to be kind of special, and I looked online on the Things Remembered website just to browse what they had since I knew they could engrave jewelry. I was surprised that they had such a variety of sales items. I hadn't expected to find zippo lighters and it was awesome that I could engrave it with a personal message. I ended up buying the slim chrome lighter and had it personalized on the front body and top for a few more bucks, I think it was $29 for the lighter and I found a coupon code off google and after engraving fees it was like 34 bucks. I was super happy with the cost and lighter. Not to mention they give the option to pick up your order in store or have it shipped to your house. Since it was already Tuesday and I needed my gift by Saturday, I chose to pick up in store even though shipping was promised within three days I didn't want to risk it. I didn't believe it when the pickup date options said 7:00 pm that night or the following day at 12:00 pm. I didn't end up picking it up until Thursday evening and it was such a quick process I just told the sales lady what my name was and what I was getting and it was right there ready to go! I can't speak highly enough of the excellent service and quality of my order. My boyfriend was really surprised and loved the lighter and the personalization made it all the more special. He uses it all the time without me having to remind him :) I already have the next gift I'll need for him picked out. I had ordered a baby blanket for my niece who was born about a month ago. I ordered the blanket on June 3rd and the lady told me 10 days from the time I ordered. I was like ok no problem they will call me in 10 days to say it's done. I just so happened to be at the mall shopping and decided to stop by and maybe see if the my order was ready. As soon as the lady looks up my order she tells me they had to send the blanket back because they forgot to stitch my niece's birthday on the blanket which I had written clear as day on the order form, like seriously how do you forget that. After telling me this she gave me a new arrival date of Friday which granted yes is only a few days but I can tell from the ladies attitude she had no intention of calling me and telling me about the situation and being someone who used to work in customer service this is bad customer service. After getting my gift for my niece I will never ever go to this place again. And honestly this place is way over priced I could have gotten my niece's blanket done somewhere cheaper and with faster service. read more

I'm so disappointed in things remembered, I'm beside myself. On Wednesday I went in store and ordered a black 5x7 frame with engraving to be done. I was very specific with the lady helping me how I wanted it, with the engraving proportional in size. I waited the 1.5 hrs they said it would take so that I may take the frame with me. I show up to pick it up and they hadn't done it. I had to wait another 30 mins, red flag #1. When the associate showed me the frame it was not how I ordered it. The lettering on top was SIGNIFICANTLY smaller then the lettering on the bottom. I told the associate that was not how I ordered it. She tells me it wouldn't look right if she did it the way I ordered it. She also went on to tell me how rushed she was bc it was busy, she was alone and the people who took my order 2 hrs ago left her a ton of work to complete by herself. Red flag #2. I did not like the frame but I did not trust her to redo it so I took the frame with the intention of returning the next day to have someone else make it. I show up the next day, explain what happened and requested another to be made. I was then told I bought the LAST black frame in all of San Diego county, so they couldn't remake it. I asked for my money back and got a full refund. As soon as I get home I get a call from the store telling me my order is ready. ??? What order. The associate who gave me the refund apparently told another associate that I ordered a smaller frame to be engraved. No, I didn't. I told them I did not want it and they basically wasted inventory and time. I get online and ordered another frame exactly how I wanted it, to be done at the same store since it says they have 2 I'm stock. The next day I call to check on my order. The store says what order? I give them my order number and they tell me it's not a valid order number. The associate calls customer service who looks into the matter and sees that someone at the store canceled my order bc they didnt have any frames in stock. Red flag #3. I did not receive an email of cancellation, nor did anyone else in the store know the order was canceled. Now I'm pissed. Distribution calls me after customer service notified them of what happened, bc, I was charged and the charge was pending. Distribution finds me a frame in my county and takes my order info to have the frame remade. She even took 20% to rectify my experience, the first attempt anyone has made to salvage my experience. Fast forward to me driving 30 miles to pick up the frame as I'm headed out of town. The frame is NOT how I ordered it. The person from distribution who input the order chose 2 different fonts instead of the 1 font I wanted. Not only that, coincidentally, it was the LAST black 5x7 frame they had in stock. SHOCKING! Red flag #4!! They can't issue me a refund bc I was never emailed a receipt!! AND customer service is closed for the day. ANNND the only other store who has a black 5x7 frame is I'm riverside. ANNNNNNND they wouldn't be able to get it and engrave it for a week!!! Mind you I was supposed to be giving it as a present tomorrow, Saturday, 4 days after I originally stepped foot into the store and placed the first order. HOW is it that one company can have so many incompetent people working for them, and so little stock with a shitty system that isnt current or up to date on their stock?? HOW?!?! I am beyond upset at this point. I am mad, frustrated, sad and just plain upset. I understand why the company is closing so many stores, they are losing customers and money on inventory bc their employees cant get it right the first time. I wont be returning as a customer and I'm telling EVERYONE and sharing on my social media the experience I have had with this company. read more

I don't know why I keep coming back to this store. I always seem to come in whenever the big guy with the shoulder length hair is there and he's THE MOST unfriendly person I've ever met in retail. My first experience with him was in February when I was picking up my online order. He located my order and opened it up to let me take a look, low and behold, my order was engraved incorrectly. So he proceeded to do what was required of him to get the order fixed; never once smiling or showing any friendly emotion. I ignored his attitude and wrote it off as "just a bad day". When I came back in to pick up my fixed order he was there again with the same ill attitude and I knew then that he just doesn't seem to like his job. My third experience with him was today when my family and I went in to the store to browse for a birthday present and he was there again with the same disgruntled employee look and attitude. He never once acknowledged us as customers and this is what prompted me to finally write a review. Enough with the attitude man. I'm sorry you hate your job but it's really not our fault. On a positive note, we ended up being helped by a really friendly customer-oriented employee (the teenaged blonde girl). She had exactly the type of attitude you'd expect from someone in a customer service/retail environment and is the only reason I gave them any stars. I purchased an engraved keepsake box for my daughter's wedding shower. I had a few problems with the engraving, but after three attempts, the engraving was perfect! The first engraved plate had a common type (capitalization); the second plate did not have the spacing I wanted (actually this was on me since I neglected to be very specific about what spacing I wanted), and the third plate was perfect. My point here is although my contact with Things Remembered was during the busy graduation/father's day/wedding time in June, Things Remembered went above and beyond to ensure my gift to my daughter and her future husband was perfect! It's unbelievable but it seems he's a manager there. He's arrogant. He does not honor any promotions going on at the website. Seemingly makes up his own rules and pricing. Prices are WAY better at thingsremembered.com so be sure to order on-line and use coupon and then pick up in store. I will NEVER return to this Plaza Bonita store. I had a much better experience at Mission Valley store. I have found that no matter what your budget is, when you get the finished product you will have spent WAY MORE than you ever imagined. I'm not kidding. The engraving costs are unreal. If ever I just must absolutely get an item engraved I will search high and low for an alternative. I would rather have my tonsils out than to step foot in one of these stores again. read more
