I came to Dr. Thio after another pain doctor missed my drug infusion pump & almost killed me & made me allergic to morphine. Dr. Thio is a great doctor, not only did he save my life, he took considerable time to address my back pain after 5 failed back surgeries & gave my life back to me. Treated me from 2006 to 2022 when I moved to Oregon. Don't move to Oregon & expect anything near his level of care! Yes, his office often crowded & front desk sometimes short. But, this should attest to the excellent care he provides vs wait time & staff. Never had a problem with talking or reaching office. I have been trying to get seen for my pain management referral for a week, and the Office manager, Lia, has claimed they have not received my information. I tried to give her my authorization number, and she refused to take it. That person needs to be removed from that position. I fell at the gym several weeks ago, limped my way with excruciating left leg and groin region pain, had to use a cane to ambulate. I had my second lumbar selective epidural Steroid injections this morning with Dr. Thio and now I am able to walk without assist. I am so thankful for finally being able to walk again. Doctor is good but having your appointments changed 50% to almost every time you set a procedure if very frustrating . They don't believe in setting an appointment time and are constantly adjusting it . so take the day off before your appointment in order to move around your times . read more

If I could give this quack a negative star review I would. The first thing out of his mouth was lets do shots in your back, he never read the MRI report and then when I told him what I read on the report he said that the MRI would not tell him where my pain was coming from. He proceed to tell me where my pain was located and what he was going to do to help me. Hence the injections and then to proceed with burning the nerves in my back. Dr Thio has ZERO bedside manners or patient confidentiality he was arguing with another patient in the next room about the same issues as myself all with the door open and i could hear the whole conversation, then he proceeded to do the same thing with me. It seems like they are only interested in shooting you up with steroids' and billing your insurance. then moving on to more costly procedures. Please note they are a CASH only business... Dr. Thio needs to hire someone to manage his front desk. I had to cancel my appointment due to their luck of professionalism. Selena, from his office left a voice mail saying they have to cancel my appointment because my insurance info is missing. It took forever to reach their office after so many tries... and when I finally, finally get through, they don't even know why I'm calling back and they say my insurance is fine now. They are so unorganized and it scared me to be in their care. Their cash only policy is questionable too! read more

Worst person ever answering phone. Immediately telling me no medicine will be given and doesn't even know who I am as a patient. She kept saying I'll have to go to physical therapy and I kept saying ok. Then she said you'll have to get injections and I said ok, and she just kept acting like she didn't want to schedule me. Finally I asked her if I could please see the doctor and she said fine she would schedule me 3 weeks out at the soonest. WORST SERVICE ... so I had to go there per the insurance. Doctor was not bad. But the staff was still very rude. When I finally did get seen and the prescription was given, I was advised I needed a prior authorization for the medicine and "they had NO IDEA when it could be done" ... how could you work in office and NOT KNOW. I went here one time and that was enough for me. Without even examining me, they decided I needed a series of injections. That seems to be their main M.O. from what I gathered from others. This is my personal opinion only, which is based on several contacts with the staff of Dr. Thio and Dr. Lao in both Murrieta and Riverside. Dr. Andrew Thio and Dr. Jesus Lao are wonderful doctors but I wonder if they've ever tried to call their own offices' public line? I doubt it because if they had, they would be immediately placed on hold, which could last for 20 minutes or longer before someone actually helped them. Their office staff are friendly and proficient enough, just not nearly enough people working there to provide even average customer / patient service. It's sad because the doctors are really good but their front office management is horrible. I've been trying to reschedule an appointment for three days. I've finally given up after being left on terminal hold three times. They rarely return phone calls so I have quit leaving messages. Until the front office situation is improved, I cannot recommend this office. read more

Was a patient here for five-six years out of necessity, going every single month for pain medication they also said was necessary, until the DEA tightened up on prescriptions by pain clinics. If there was less than one star, they would be in the NEGATIVE on the scale. DONT go here! RECORD EVERY VISIT (using your cell phone or a small recorder)! I did and it came in handy when I finally reported them to AARP and Medicare...because liars will continue to lie especially if it is to save their own butts. As the Gov'mt started tightening-up on pain meds for patients saying it leads to heroine use, they started DUMPING valid patients. The greatest day for Dr. Creamer (a doc there) was when I said I need another doctor because he was not it. They had the nerve to say after giving me NEEDED opioids for six years that they really are not necessary now because if I get off of ALL my medication my "body would take care of itself". I looked at this man and asked him if he has EVER reviewed my file and MRI's, X-Rays, etc... and he said "MRI's and X-rays and medical reports" don't matter to him; do not mean a thing. He also stated he has "never made a mistake" and that "he does not make mistakes". I am in inoperable spinal patient, and also inoperable hernia patient with a 28 cm hernia sticking out of my stomach with just a piece of skin grafted over it. This caused my core muscles to shrink and my ligaments to also shrink causing my spine to collapse to the left. My pain can be life threatening at times ... do to its severity. At other times it can be from 5-25 on a pain scale (if there was one that surpassed '10'). Further, due to the hernia I cannot lay on my stomach for their injections into my spine. They could not make that extra money on me. No surgery possible. Only pain meds can offer some help to keep walking and being as productive as possible until the last thing crushes or breaks. Then you have these people treating you like you are less than a human being - because you are now addicted to their pain medication they prescribed. What does that make them? These physicians are NOT HEALERS, and they could care less about what your medical problem is, they only care about the money they get for a 2 minute visit: $269.00 (my visit bill). They are rude, liars, write erroneous remarks in your file, say idiotic things like your body will take care of itself if you don't take any pain medication ... I'm sorry, collapsing scoliosis and a giant hernia, bone spurs from your first vertebrae in your neck down to your last in your spinal column, will NEVER TAKE CARE OF ITSELF! I don't even know where to start with this place... I was referred here by my PCP for a chronic back pain issue I've had for the last 10 years. Without boring you with minute details, I've had everything done to my back from surgery to chiropractors to physical therapy to acupuncture along with pain management. I had a wonderful doctor in San Diego who worked with me to tweak meds, used diagnostic tools and other testing to create a comprehensive plan for treating me. That being said, I arrived at Dr. Thio's office hopeful despite all the bad reviews I've read on his practice here and on other sites. I didn't even let the $11 million judgment against him from 10 yrs ago I found on Google sway me...I should have! The front office trio of young ladies were unorganized and flustered. I was the only person in the office at the time. While filling out my paperwork I heard multiple unprofessional conversations between the three of them from giggling about not paying their bills on time (it was a car payment that was 4 days late if you care...) to chastising each other about how paperwork was filed (I told you to do it this way! Are you dumb?) to I kid you not their hangovers from the weekend. I really should have run away. I finally was called back into an exam room and met with Dr. Kreamer. He. Was. Awful! After reviewing my medical history, he concludes my previous surgeons were morons for performing the surgeries they did. He then asks me what medications have worked for me before and I tell him, for him to say he's not a drug pusher. Well doc, I didn't ask for drugs, YOU asked ME what has worked in the past. He then tells me about this experimental procedure that he learned about in Florida ("when I was in Florida...back when I was training in Florida..." then take your butt back to Florida!) He tells me and I quote "this doesn't really work below the waist" I stared blankly thinking, then how is it going to work on my low back pain? I explained to him I have Tricare since my husband is active duty military and they will not approve an experimental surgery without there being a gradual degree of care substantiating it, since I've been through this before and have actually had a procedure approved by them for another surgery considered experimental. He throws my paperwork down, says "you can pay for it yourself or not, I don't really care" and he walks out of the room. I sat there trying to figure out wtf just happened and wondering if he was coming back. After a few minutes, I exit the room on my own to an empty hallway and walk out to the waiting room to get the hell out of that place. A medical assistant stops me, hands me a DVD for the procedure this quack was pressuring me to get and tells me I need to get my MRI scheduled per Dr. Kreamer's orders. I tell her I'm going to get a second opinion since I can't even get an MRI because of all the metal in my back and I'll call them back, she answers me and I quote again "whatever" and shuts the door in my face. I threw their dvd in the garbage, notified Tricare about the ridiculous standard of care and immediately called my PCP to ask for another referral. Worst doctors experience of my life. And I never, not once, met Dr. Thio. read more

I had a great pain management doctor but wanted one closer to home. I found Dr. Thio's office. He really wasn't too bad at first, and I like a couple of the girls in the office (the rest don't even bother to PRETEND to be nice). He did tend to rush the monthly visit... but he would listen if I insisted. He has since joined forces with Dr. Lau - and for some reason, one month the staff decided to put me with him (and I've never seen Thio since - not even in passing!) Now, once a month I go in for a "med refill" - and I am there MAYBE 2 minutes (after waiting up to an hour or more due to triple-booking... and this is even if I make an appt a month in advance!) I've found out that the office has been charging my insurance carrier nearly $200 for the privilege of walking through their door to get my (pre-written) RX... and of course the ins. co won't pay it. I now owe over $1000 for "post-anesthesia visits" (huh? I guess that was all they could think of... I never had anesthesia there. But today was the real kicker. I actually SAW the dr (Lau) yesterday and was given my monthly RXs. Went to get them filled... and the pharmacy told me "too soon, we will call the dr" (I had a new RX - a patch - and the first two of them had gotten ruined - lasted 1 day, and 2 days respectively) instead of 3 days each. I called the office today after the pharmacy said "they have not called back to OK giving it to you early" and the girl that answered (name unknown) in Lau's office told me "if we took care of ALL the patients that call us, we'd never get anything done". HUH? For two hundred+ a month (plus the co-pay they collect and n ever credit me with on the bills they're sending!!) they can't "take care" of me? "No," the girl said, "the doctor is not in but we put a note on his desk," (and he is supposed to see this HOW?) "and maybe tomorrow he will be able to look at it." That was when she piped in with the first comment... saying again, "if we helped all the patients that said they dropped a pill down the drain we wouldn't get anything done." (I didn't drop a pill... I even had the ruined patches... did that matter? NO. Have I EVER in 2+ years, called for this reason? NO. Was it during office hours? YES.) If you want a good pain management doctor, I do know of one. In fact, I am hoping he will take me back as a patient after trying to save gas and find one closer. But don't go see Thio/Lau. If you do, don't have a problem with a medicine... and for God's sake, make sure you're on Medicare. Otherwise you'll have billing nightmares too. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star. Dr. Kreamer is terrible. He is extremely rude and condescending. He treated me like I was a pill popper, all because I can't afford injections. The doctor he replaced was a very nice man, I'm so sad he's gone. The receptionists and the medical assistants have always been mean and rude, but I put up with it because I used to have a great doctor. I will NEVER, EVER go to see Kreamer again. I went to Ivy Pain Management for injections. Didn't see Dr. Thio, and it's too soon to give any results on the injection, but unlike many of the negative reviews, the front and back office staff, and Dr, Lao? were very kind, personable, and helpful. On first consult visit, I had to fill and sign many pages about narcotics, my psychological state, and if I had been prescribed narcotics by other doctors, etc. I am sure this is due to massive drug abuse problems. Many of the negative reviews are by those needing narcotics, which, apparently are now being tightly restricted by the government. I haven't needed them, so I can't speak about Ivy Pain Management's treatment of patients who do need them. My neck condition is causing pain down my arm and hand. My first consult was two weeks ago The PA, NP, or whatever her title, was very pleasant, took 15-20 minutes getting details, explaining the process, and answering questions. Had my first injection today (2-9-18) Dr Lao? came in to talk with me briefly and came back a minute or two later and wanted more specifics on where the pain was. Apparently, the initial consult wrote the pain was in my neck. I told him I had no pain in my neck but rather in my shoulder and especially in my arm and down my arm and into my hand. Since I had no pain in my neck, he changed the procedure to one shot (cervical epidural). I waited for about a half hour for the procedure, but the procedure, from IV sedation to finish, took only 5 minutes. I have no reason to give it other than a 5 star rating for my initial experience. read more

A friend of mine goes to this office and all i hear are negative comments on the staff from her. She says the Doctors are okay, but that they don't really listen to her input, they just keep treating her the same way for 10 years. She wishes they would try something different but they seem to fail to do so. If i needed a Pain Management Doctor i definitely would NOT go to this office with the feedback i get from her. Also, the other reviews i read on this office are pretty much what she experiences. As soon as the DEA tightened down on their policies with Pain Management Doctors, she was being treated as the same as other patients that abuse medication. I've been to see dr.Thio and he was abusive and rude. He put me on fentanyl and then later gave me back injections just bang bang bang down my spine without any anesthetic then when I said that was horrible he said that he wouldn't refill my fentanyl because (he said)that I missed my last appointment. I told him that I was at my last appointment and his office manager said the same that I have never missed an appointment. To say that this man is cruel is an understatement. My regular doctor gave me a prescription for fentanyl. Thankfully. I am off of that junk now thank God. This office is full of uncaring office staff and doctors. I suffer with chronic pain and my last doctor I was with for 4 years my first visit asked how my existing treatment plan was working and was assured that they could do better, I was then transferred to his P.A. Who was wonderful then the war on opioids began he was ordered to cut all patient's medication by 20% he refused to lower mine and a few other patients it cost him his job. I saw the doctor I made a stink so the office told me to go elsewhere they weren't going be treating me after the end of that year. We were seen in this office for over 2 years, a referral from IEHP. When we came in for our monthly appointment today, we were informed that Dr. Thio's contract with IEHP will expire on November 30th and he will not be renewing. We were given a form to sign acknowledging that we were no longer able receive care, given a month's worth of medication and shown the door. Getting a referral for pain management is a difficult and time-consuming process. I am not confident we will be able to get one and get in to see a new Pain Management doctor in 30 days. My wife will then not only be in chronic excruciating pain, she will also be withdrawing off pain meds. I can only assume this was a financial decision, but of course cannot be sure as we were merely given our last appointment and shown the door. I hope I am wrong. Dr thio was very arrogant. From the time he entered the room he knew he was not going to prescribe any meds. He stated that there is no scientific evidence to prove that pain meds cure pain or even help he does not dispense pain meds and would be happy to send me to someone to cure my addiction. I take 1 norco a day at night to sleep. My hips and back I x-Ray out to be in my 80's I was born with this problem. The only help is surgery and I am to young he did not care go home and deal with it. I changed Dr and she sent me hereI asked for 30 norco a month and nothing else. It was my first visit there so arrived a an hour early to fill out paperwork. I made the appointment a couple weeks ago and wrote it down as I was on the phone with them. They lost my appointment or didn't make it in the first place. So they told me to fill out the paperwork and they would see if "she" would see me making it sound like it would be some huge favor if she did. A staff member the. Pulled me aside and asked me if I was taking pain meds which I answers yes I was. The staff member told me that the NP would probably not see me unless I was there for injections and would defiantly not fill any prescriptions for pain meds. I just got my prescription filled a few days ago so I didn't really care. I was there to try to find an alternative to pain meds anyhow because I am sick of taking them and being treated like an addict. The np said she would see me and almost 2 hours later after sitting in a closed room that was so hot I was sweating the np came in and just told me that they don't give pain meds and handed me a blurry photocopy explaining their injections and sent me packing. The gal up front was nice but still made it sound like I was getting a big favor by being seen. The np is a moron and has no clue what chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy even is. She told me that my condition is not treated with pain meds. I told her I have been taking for her past 6 years and she just said they I won't be getting any there. This was the single most humiliating experience I have had since I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2013. Any positive reviews you see here or anywhere else must be written by staff and nurses that work there because I wasn't the only one I saw miss treated today. I saw Dr. Lao and he was terrible. I'm a nurse and I deal with physicians everyday, so I'd like to think I know a decent doctor when I meet one. The office staff originally refused to schedule my first appointment because they never seemed to have received my insurance authorization. Even though I faxed it to them and my doctor's office also faxed it to them twice. Finally, I had my doctor's office call them and set up an appointment. The office staff is extremely rude. If I talked to patient's like that, I would get written up. I met Dr. Lao and explained everything that was going on. I've been off work for a couple months with a back injury, SI joint problems, and ligament pain. He basically then just repeated everything I had told him. He did not offer any advice on what to do until I asked about a cortisone injection. He said he would submit for approval and then he said, "but most of my patients with your insurance don't get approved for it so it probably won't happen". Um, excuse me?! I work in the medical field, a cortisone injection is easy to get approval for. But, only if you know how to chart and write the documentation correctly. After not hearing back from the office for 10 days, I called my insurance company to see where we were at in the approval process. Well, Dr. Lao never even sent any paperwork or request for authorization for the above said cortisone injection..... Seriously? I changed my medical group so that I can go see another pain management group. Hopefully one where the office staff is nice and organized and where the physician's actually know how to do their job. Had to see the NP Sara Sheik and she never did anything right. She spend 5 minutes and never remembers my moms problems. She refused to call or speak to my mom when the prescription she messed up failed. She made my mom come in for an appointment instead. She could not write a proper appeal for her medication and it was denied. The phone staff have no compassion and empathy. They have not even apologized for their mistakes. read more

Hello I was an employee there for just 8 days and we'll on Friday they let me go I was mad and then got over it there's something better opening up for me. But one thing that bugs me is that the manager there Dora text me she was letting me go instead of actually talking to me face to face or calling me and it's Tuesday Feb 9. 2016 and still have not received my pay check and California law says an employee that is fired laid off or quit has 72hrs to get there pay or give the person the check in hand same day they are let go. We'll still no paycheck Dora sent it through mail even though I could of pick it up since I live exactly 4mins away and it's been now way over the 72hrs and she has the nerve to say I'm harassing her asking for my check and threatened to call the police if I text one more time. We'll I took it upon myself to call the police ask them and told them what was going on and I got the number for equal opportunity employment and reported her because there's no reason I should have to wait after being let go for my check...mind you I work 8 days. It would take me all day to write the review. But they are very rude, overbooked, and only care about giving you injections. That's how they make their money. I was referred to Dr. Thio's Murrieta office after my Orthopedic surgeon failed to control my pain after total hip replacement, which resulted in some long term muscle spasms. Making an appointment was easy and the wait was reasonable. I was treated by Nurse Practitioner, Grace Basa. She immediately diagnosed my condition, suggested a course of treatment, and prescribed pain medication for the interim. I have contacted the office on several occasions to make further appointments, adjust my medication, and discuss insurance issues and have always been met by friendly, courteous, professional, and competent staff. I have, so far, had nothing but positive encounters with this office. read more

I have to say regretfully, that I have had nothing but poor customer service at the Murrieta office repeatedly. I don't get calls back from the staff and I have to call them several times over to get an appointment only to get there and find out, I don't HAVE an appointment as scheduled or I am scheduled with the wrong doctor. The staff at this office is absolutely horrible, they are rude and dismissive of patients needs. I have been there at the counter when they have put a phone call on hold to talk and laugh about the patient on hold. I swear I think it is a requirement to be rude speak poor english and have a rotten attitude to be employed there. As a fellow professional, I would think that Dr. Thio & Dr. Lao would want a better front for their business, I guarantee they loose patients daily! read more
