What a breath of fresh air! I've been to many a comic book store in my time collecting and none have felt so welcoming as Third Coast. Too many other stores I've visited have been more focused on selling gawdy statues, the latest collectible card game or overpriced back issues/variant covers. Third Coast, on the other hand, is in the business of selling comics first and foremost with a wide selection ranging from local indie talent to the latest superhero fare. It should also be noted that Third Coast has all of these comics arranged in such a way that it resembles an actual adult-like bookstore rather than someone's basement full of longboxes. There is plenty of light and space to move around. Heck, there's even multiple sitting areas to take advantage of once you have your selections in hand. I never thought I would be able to refer to a comic book store as aesthetically pleasing but there you go. Finally, enough can't be said about the staff here, especially owner Terry Gant. He is everything a good retailer should be: helpful, knowledgeable about his product and always willing to go the extra mile for customer satisfaction. With his attitude and business acumen he could probably run any business successfully; I'm glad he chose to open a comic book store. In summary: Third Coast Comics is not simply a very good comic book store, it is a very good store that happens to sell comic books. read more

I am a comics reporter and critic (www.comicbookbin.com), and was just in town recently visiting some friends at Loyola. "Where's a comics shop I can visit?" I asked. They sent me to Third Coast Comics. I had a blast! What an attractive space! Little Nemo is right over the front desk, and that seduced me right away. The walls are painted in beautiful bold Captain Marvel red and yellow, and Superman blue. The stock is great. I spent way past my budget, of course. I had a wonderful time chatting with Terry, the owner, and he turned me onto a couple of graphic novels that exactly suit my tastes in art and theme. And to cap it off, I chilled for a little while in their lovely courtyard and read some of my new acquisitions. It's so nice to have a quiet retreat like that, even in an easy-going city like Chicago. I'm just sorry I don't live in Chicago! It would be nice to go there every week. I'll be connecting with Terry via the Third Coast Comics web site. Based on the things he recommended during my visit, I think he's probably a genius in anticipating which graphic novels I won't want to miss. read more

So its actually my husband who's a comic fan in the family but on occasion I will tag along and pop in when he's on a nerd binge. I like this store because there always seems to be something that I can find to entertain myself and the staff is friendly. They get it that I am not a fan and I can usually b.s. with the cashier, (I think his name is Terry but don't quote me on it, I'm horrible with names) for a bit while the hubby indulges in geekdom. Not that I'm not a geek too I'm a huge Star Trek TNG fan but not so much a comic fan. Hmmm I seem to have veered off course here. All in all its a great shop, friendly staff, I think they have a good selection... like I said not a huge fan of comics. The best part is that they don't make me feel like a looser for not "getting it" Oh and its cool that they're a small neighborhood store... support your neighborhoods! read more

I am a new customer of Third Coast Comics, although I have shopped online with them in the past. Their new store is very bright and cheerful and seems to be painted in Superman colors (red, yellow and blue). The first thing I noticed walking in was a eclectic mix of books, graphic novels and comics, all attractively displayed. The store has a wide variety of comics, including classic comics strip collections, manga, indie and yes, all of the DC, Marvel, Dark Horse and Images comics a girl could want. The owner, Terry, was very personable and recommended to me several new comics I hadn't heard of. Some of the other customers told me that there are frequent gatherings there, including friendly games of Magic the Gathering. It's a comfortable, friendly space and I can easily imagine stopping by to pick up my books and chat every week. read more

I really don't understand Timothy's review...and he fails to mention that he owns Evil Squirrel... I shop at Third Coast Comics and have become friends with owner Terry because he is personable. He even organizes a comic book meetup in the courtyard behind his shop where you can meet new people with similiar interests. As for the selection, he will order anything you are looking for, plus the store opened a few weeks ago, so give it some time. The store is bright and cheerful with some great books on display. It's even painted the colors of Superman's costume. LOL And I know that Comix Revolution does not bag and board comics, you have to pay for that, while Terry does give them out for FREE if you ask. Terry always recommends great, new stuff for me to check out. I really enjoy hanging out there. read more

Third Coast Comics is Awesome!!! I stopped in when I had just moved to the neighbor per a friends recommendation, and now its one of my favorite Edgewater places. Terry (who runs the shop) is incredibly friendly, and has an amazing knack for recommending a new book someone will love, based on their interests. He is always happy to answer questions about what you may have missed in any time away from a book, or anything else for that matter. TCC hosts multiple events each month that range from discussions of government or family dysfunction in comics, to wine tastings, to signings by writers and artists, and is a fantastic way to meet great people in the community. I've been reading comics nearly my whole life, and this is honestly the best comic shop I've ever found. read more

Though the vibrant colors of the store are an immediate attraction to comic nostalgia, I felt that it was the friendly and knowledgeable people who work and hang out in the store that are the real draw. I was impressed with the selection and displays ranging from independent to mainstream and was able to find my selections with ease. However, its clear that their is more to take advantage of in sharing thoughts with Terry who listens and makes recommendations and opinions openly. My advice is to have some time when you go because you can easily get caught up in discussions and reminiscing on obscure story lines. And as others have mentioned the courtyard was a definite temptation for hanging out or unwinding and spending the time to enjoy my purchases. read more

I heart Third Coast! If you're a female who digs comics, this is the place to go. No creepers looking over your shoulder or wondering what you're reading! There are many weekly and monthly events (knitting night is the best!) and Third Coast is having some awesome artists and writers coming in for signings. The owner, Terry, is super helpful and is a good judge of what you might like to read. For the comic-curious, this is the perfect shop to start! For those who have been reading for a while, Third Coast is great for expanding your collection! All in all, a pleasant atmosphere, helpful staff, and great events! read more

Third Coast has a huge selection of monthly comics, trade paperbacks, graphic novels, and other novels and zines. However, if you don't know what kind of comics you would like, this is where to head. Terry (the owner) is awesome and can take your favorite books or movies and translate them into a comic title you'll love. I think it's a fantastic 6th sense. read more

I love this comic book store and so do my kids. We're regulars at this neighborhood stop. They have a wide selection of comics. A great kid's section. A staff that's willing to help the novice comic reader. They even did a birthday party for our family with a comic book artist. It is truly an awesome place. read more
