I'm pretty sure everyone who plays sand volleyball in Houston knows what Third Court is. There is a parking lot, but most people end up just parking on the street past the courts due to overcrowding. $10 open play Friday nights (supposedly, first timers come in free, but I wasn't offered that - though I heard some other guys came in later on that did). There is a bar and a grill inside, with a very spacious covered area with different types of seating. 12 courts total. Middle two are men's doubles and women's doubles and the outside courts are meant for 4s. I wouldn't really recommend coming without a group and even if you have a group, you'll be waiting a while between games. It's pretty wild West in terms of who is next, pretty much have to walk up to a group and ask to play winner or if they have space. The skill level is very wide, but generally above average. If you have a designated group, it's more efficient to go reserve because you'll be waiting for open play courts. I think I got three games in for fours within two hours. read more

A really cool place. I came here as a spectator. The area is somewhat sketchy but they have plenty of lighting and videocameras around the parking areas for your car. The courts are maintained very well and the dogs that accompany the players are well behaved. They even have showers on site. They have a small bar but I didn't see a kitchen. The drink prices were very reasonable. A topo chico hard seltzer was less than 5 dollars. read more

Third Coast Volleyball Club has quickly become my home away from home for sand volleyball! It's sand volleyball paradise between their numerous courts, covered shaded area, and bar/food. Whether you're an amateur or pro, everyone is welcome to play here. I normally go on the open play days which are Fridays and Sundays, but I believe you can call to get a court any day of the week as long as it doesn't interfere with their leagues. The sand here is very fine/soft and is free of any trash or debris. The nets are high quality and adjustable from super low for foot volleyball to super high Men's sand height. Volleyballs are provided to use if you don't have your own. And I also like how easy it is to adjust the court lines to be the size for 4v4 or 2v2. With private outdoor showers available and soap provided, all you need to bring is a change of clothes, towel, and lots of water. It gets HOT out there during the summer, but we usually have too much fun to notice after awhile, especially when the "loser" of our games gets the next round of beer. Cheers! read more

This place has a really nice atmosphere! It is around a pretty semi-sketchy area, but once I entered I felt like I was in the beach! Wooden floors, tv's, a bar, and even showers or sinks to rinse off the sand. A few friends and I came over as beginners wanting to learn the sport- disclaimer, everyone there knows how to play volleyball but they are also extremely nice and welcoming- and we were invited by people that knew what they were doing to just play around and learn with them. Ultimately everyone including the staff is open and will not treat you any less regardless of if you know what you are doing or not. I haven't been to any other beach volleyball court but I highly recommend that if you're afraid of playing because of your level of experience come here and enjoy yourself, no one judges! First visit was opposite from some of the reviews on here. Service from beginning to end was impeccable. Space is not byob BUT they have awesome local beers on tap or canned. For the ladies they also had rose & Pinot Grigio in the can. We loved the fact that we were able to bring our own food since they didn't offer food on site. The weather was cold & all the fire place was lit and illuminated the space which made it very cosy. Huge volley ball space , very clean, fun out door space. Awesome bar area. I love volleyball. I don't know if it's the smacking the balls around, or the beating the crap out of the boys ( I can do that at bowling too!), or the sand and sun and fun. It's probably all of the above. Well, combine those with great atmosphere, friendly people, cheap drinks, and even some decent music and you get Third Coast! I recently joined a recreational (read: It's been 10 years since my ass has actually been on a volleyball court) league that started last Thursday (through sportsmonkey.com). It's great!!! They have several courts, from 4sums playing recreationally, to bikini-clad hard bodies spiking across the court. Watch out! There's a bar for water or beer, several cozy seating areas, both under canopies and out in the sun, and outdoor showers. Early in the evening there were a few kiddos running around but as it got later (it was a school night!), it definitely had a more adult-vibe going on. They have open play for pretty cheap admission on Sundays 1030-630, if you feel like hitting a couple balls around, or just watching the bikini-clad bodies jump around. The most welcoming place for lower & higher level volleyball players to hang out at together. I started here(at the lowest level) and quickly learned that the owner is adamant about growing Houston volleyball. He wants Traveling Pros, Former Pros, Juniors & people just now learning the game...to feel welcome here. You meet such a variety of player here and everybody is so encouraging. Hot showers with soap, private bathrooms with deodorant & mouthwash, hand sanitizer stations everywhere. Great facility and great atmosphere overall. The downside is the customer service, due to the fact that no one ever answers the phone or responds to emails when someone is trying to reserve a court. I came here to watch my partner play volleyball and I have to say these are the best burgers I have had in a looooong time. I really love this place! Especially for a chill night with friends, since I suck at volleyball. There's no pressure at all here. You'll see an assortment of players, the super legit ones and the ones playing for fun (me.) Open play is on Fridays and Sunday's! But I've only been here on Fridays. There are SO MANY courts here! I've never had a problem with finding an open one. I literally will say "good players over there, and us amateurs will play it out on this other court." LOL they provide balls, but I prefer to play with balls that we bring. They have a grill that you're welcome to use! It's $20/hr for propane or you can bring your own charcoal. I usually call ahead to see if the grill is open! (First come, first serve) Abundant amount of tables as well. There's not really any utensils or napkins, so bring your own. Inside, there is an air conditioned area that sells beer, Smirnoff, Gatorade, ect. and small snacks. They have draft and cider, yay! (I don't drink beer, so that works for me.) The guys that work there are super nice! There are showers! That also have soap in them. Bring a towel! $5 entry fee, bikinis/shirtless guys are welcome since it's a sand court and we're always stuck parking on the side of the street somewhere but haven't had any problems with it. read more

Being a Texan, i appreciate the fun in the sun. One of the league i am in is at third coast vball ct. From the sand courts to the cheap drinks, what a great place to hang out, get exercise, bring the kids to build sand castles etc. For you more serious players, there are specific courts there for different skill levels. Co-eds, Mens, womens. League play is Mon - Thur. They actually partner up w/ Sports Monkey for a couple of leagues. Sunday is open play. If you are reading this review, you may be thinking about visiting Third Coast Volleyball for your very first time. Do it! Even if you don't play the first time you go, and you just go and watch, I believe you can appreciate a venue that is as dedicated to its customers and its product as Third Coast is. Pretty much everyday there is league play. But, on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, there is open play for $6. Play all you want. Not that good? Don't worry. People are super nice and will help you as "everyone has to start somewhere." But, if you really can't bump-pass, do consider taking a lesson or two, and you will feel much more comfortable and confident out there. Drew Hamilton is a fantastic coach and see if you can take a lesson with one or two friends; it makes it that much more fun. Don't have a ball? Borrow one. Honor system. (love it when venues use trust to build relationships with their customers) The facilities are awesome - showers, bathrooms. I haven't had any food or drinks there, so I can't speak to that. Awesome! Although located in a shady part of town once inside you forget your in Houston. Looks like a little beach gateaway outside the inner loop. Great customer service and well priced drinks. If you like volleyball in a relaxed environment, you'll really enjoy this place. They sell drinks, some food, ping pong, tv's, tables, showers, and plenty of volleyball courts. Music is always jammin over the speakers spread throughout the courts (not always music you like) and everyone is nice and friendly. The courts are in pretty good shape. They keep the sand very deep so its hard to move and jump. Balls are pretty warn down and have signs of water log so might want to bring your own ball. Occasionally they'll replace a few and there will be a few good balls. Usually there are enough people who have forgotten their sunscreen so there's a bucket full for public use. I know they have league play M-Thu, not sure about Fri and Sat but Sun is open play, which is ~$6 I think. So I guess if you like the amenities and players, its a good alternative to the local sand volleyball at the park or driving down to the beach. read more

They have a large covered patio which is great to sit and chill while watching the volleyball games. The staff is great. I highly recommend this place. I had a blast at Third Coast! When I found out that I was invited to play in the yearly HAA volleyball tournament I said yes with no hesitation. I was so mad that I had to leave. I have never played sand volleyball so it was a little bit of an adjustment, I played for years on the traditional court where pads were required. I love that I was able to dive for those balls in that powdery sand. There are tons of "courts" which makes it so perfect for tournaments, the drinks are reasonably priced and the food is not that bad. Reminded me of typical concession food. I really like the fact that they had lotion, body wash, mouthwash, etc in the ladies restroom. Reminded me of the clubs that have the bathroom attendants. I would have never guessed to put an establishment like this in the middle of Harwin but it works. Great venue for the sand volleyball enthusiast or just for fun. They also have leagues which I am seriously considering. Very beachy feel and laid back. read more

I used to play varsity volleyball as a kid in high school/college and I spent my summers on the beach playing volleyball as well. This was either on the East or West coast. Third Coast Volleyball was actually VERY relaxing just to watch games these days in a laid-back "beach" setting. Pros: Laid back, you won't feel like you are in the city, reasonable prices, beach environment. Cons: Their strange hours. Call to see if they are open before you go. If you're into beach volleyball or just the beach and don't feel like driving 1 hour to Galveston, check this place out. Plenty of courts to play. There are plenty of volleyballs too. I believe it has the most in the city. Great place to play pick up ball. They are strict about no drinks and food from outside. The facility itself is awesome! The rude bartender Brandy or Brandee, is another story. Between her rude comments and condescending attitude and the fact that any time our team wanted a refreshment we had to hunt her down, only to find her on yet another smoking break. (Yes, this is a sporting event place with athletes that prefer not to second hand smoke their life's away). Wednesday nights are the worst, so disorganized. And as I was told by her (brandy). "SHE RUNS THE PLACE AND IF I DON'T LIKE IT,I DIDN'T HAVE TO RETURN". Keep in mind all I did was ask when my partner I were up next to play, it was a playoff night, so I deemed that a valid question. My first volleyball bar. Awesome place to play, the spot seemed very clean! Even though I didn't drink much the venue had a real nice setup. A good amount of volleyball courts here! I've been going to Third Coast regrettably for a while because it was the only place I thought I could play volleybal at. Every time I go it is by far a horrible experience. The staff over there is great and I feel bad writing this review because of that but the people there are horrid. They ruin the atmosphere. Its like the volleyball mafia. They seem to know eachother as they play i guess every day and they mark all their names on every single list so what ends up happening is you see the same people playing 5 or more games on the same courts. Hard to explain i guess but basically if you go there expect to be fighting to play a game because of the way they scam the play lists up there. I go to crowbar now. The people there are amazing and even though they have 9 FEWER courts I play a whole lot more and make even better friends. Again, the staff up at third coast is pretty damn awesome but the people there.......its a horrible experience. Dont go. read more
