Being a Washingtonian, the Thirsty Lion was new to me. First thing you notice is how large the facility is. Lots of TV's huge space, but still has that sit-down pub feel, with a modern twist. It works. The food isn't just pub food either. It's eclectic and definitely fits the vibe. Kung Pao chicken, absolutely. Did you want a vegan power salad? Sure! What about just avocado dip with chips. They got you. Don't forget the cocktails and beer. It's the place to meet I didn't know I needed. Would I come back? Absolutely! read more

I had not been to this location in several years, but I will be back soon and often. I had gone to the Tanasbourne location a couple of months ago, and I was anxious to see if the Reuben was as good at this restaurant...it was. I am shocked to see that this site has only garnered a 3 1/2 stars over-all. It deserves a much higher rating. When I arrived, four people greeted me with a warm smile and hello, That does mean a lot. Our server, Alex D. was equally friendly and so efficient. She was there whenever we needed anything. The Reuben, Hand-cut Fries, Tartar Sauce, Fish & Chips and Arnie Palmers were all perfectly prepared. Thanks Thirsty Lion for a great visit, and one I will return for. read more

I met a colleague for lunch at Thirsty Lion after he highly recommended it. He raved about the food, so I was looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, the experience got off to a rough start. We were seated at a booth that had ketchup splattered across the back of the booth, the seat, and all over the table. I ended up cleaning it myself while the hostess stood there. She thanked me, but never offered to have someone come clean it or move us to another table. When our waitress arrived, I asked for a napkin because I had missed a spot. She apologized and said, "Oh, someone spilled ketchup." My thought was... yes, but why wasn't it cleaned before seating guests? I had originally planned to order one of their salads because they looked fantastic, but with the current parasite concerns, I decided to play it safe and ordered the Gastropub Burger without the arugula or horseradish cream. The burger was packed with flavor and cooked well, but it was much greasier than I expected. I know it's a bacon cheeseburger, so I wasn't expecting health food, but it was noticeably more greasy than a typical bacon cheeseburger. The fries had potential, but we're underwhelming. I don't know if it was the bottom of the bag, but mine were more like fry bits than french fries Our waitress was very friendly, but she seemed stretched thin. My water glass sat empty for much of our meal and was never refilled. Overall, the food had good flavor, but the cleanliness issue right from the start left a poor first impression. I'd be willing to give Thirsty Lion another try because I think this may have just been an off day. Hopefully next time the table is clean before I sit down, and I can finally try one of those salads. read more

Went for happy hour which was from 3 - 6 pm. Nice selection of appetizers & drinks with decent prices. We had 2 bourbon manhattans & A sweet pink drink (can't remember the name). The california rolls were so fresh & bomb. Also enjoyed the tangy fried cauliflower. The bartender was really sweet & nice. Our drinks & food came in good time. We sat at the bar and there are plenty of seats & tables for everyone. Very nice vibe & super clean. Definitely recommend if you are in the area of shopping for a jaguar car:) read more

A nice modern gastropub that my friend recommended. General menu options but nothing that really stood out. It sort of reminded me of Elephant Bar with their overly fusion options. I ordered their burger but regretted it as it was soggy and messy. It also felt extremely heavy but it's probably from their infused Gorgonzola in the patty. I don't think I would eat again here but more likely come for some drinks. read more

We went for Sunday brunch as a family of four, checked out the menu beforehand and there was something for everyone. My 11 year old son said he wanted breakfast tacos- they had them! My six year old daughter wanted Mac and cheese . Husband wanted mimosas and I wanted a poke bowl . Our server was Colleen and she was fantastic, very welcoming and sweet to our kids. She checked on us many times, even though it was busy. Highly recommend the poke bowl and the $28 bottle of Prosecco with your choice of fresh squeezed juice. read more

I really enjoy going to this place when I'm in the area. There's tons of seating inside and a covered outdoor patio. The service is great, with the weight staff checking in on you often, and replacing your iced tea and water quickly. The food is great. read more

This is a great option near Washington square mall! Parking is easy and the menu is versatile. A really great place to watch a game in a fun atmosphere. The menu has a lot of appetizers and a solid drink menu. Only a few burger and pizza options. Prices are on the higher side. Service was attentive and friendly for the most part. To Thirsty Lion: I'm honestly embarrassed for you. The meal you served me tonight was a complete joke. I ordered the French Dip, and what you brought out looked awful. The meat had a weird gray color, and the moment I took a bite I realized it was so tough it was basically inedible. And seriously -- how hard is it to mess up a French Dip? It's one of the simplest dishes you serve. Yet somehow you managed to turn it into something I wouldn't feed to anyone. I even asked someone else to try it, and trust me, you do not want to hear what they said. This was unacceptable, careless, and nowhere near the standard you claim to have. read more

First-time to this Beaverton outpost of the Thirsty Lion. I went to meet up with friends for Brunch. Their brunch menu is not necessarily big but does have just a little bit of everything for people from the traditional eggs, bacon and toast, which is what I had, to chilaquiles, spicy chicken and waffles, breakfast tacos, spinach omelet and French toast. They also havecl a wide array of breakfast cocktails. I had a traditional scrambled eggs, maple bacon, potatoes and toast. They give a nice big amount of maple bacon! Smothered in maple syrup basically. I had enough for breakfast the next day! Goid to know, the place is family friendly and can get a bit noisy. read more

My friends and I had not seen each other in weeks we were looking for a local spot to catch up, we stopped by the Thirsty Lion, typically we have a good experience, the staff at the door were very friendly but then the waitress that supported our area was less then friendly. We ordered a few happy hour items and some drinks, things seem to start well but as it got busier our waitress seemed to loose patience and did not come around as much. It's Xmas and the mall is right around the corner, you would think that business would increase there staff and coach there teams around being even more customer friendly. The food was great as well as the drinks but the way we were treated was unprofessional. Thankfully we have many other options in supporting other local companies. The waitress could have kept her commitments to herself if she was overwhelmed, ask for help, don't take it out on your customers. read more

The standout items would be the beer battered cheese curds followed by the creamy queso dip. The cheese curds had a good exterior texture and a nice soft texture. Friday night dinner with grandkids. I reserved a table for 7 online and we were able to be seated 10 minutes early. Plenty of staff on hand and surprisingly a lot of open tables for a Friday night. Server takes drink order and we put food order in as well as we have hungry kids at the table. Ten minutes later 2 of the 3 beers arrived table side without kids drinks and 3rd beer. Several minutes expire and several staff pass our table without the remaining drinks I finally get a server's attention and she looks into it. Remaining drinks arrive but no signs of our Beer Cheese Soup. A pattern is taking place and it is apparent service is incredibly slow. Soup finally arrives and it is very good but we are now 30 minutes past time of order. We finish soup, bowls sit empty as we await kid meals and adult entrees. Almost an hour after ordering our meals arrive. Water glasses sit empty as does other drinks. Servers depart quickly as if they were heading to a fire. We are left with no water or drink with dinner. My recommended dish, the Pork with Kimchi Rice lacked heat yet had an overpowering smoke taste. The Kimchi Rice was lacking kimchi and crisp instead it was more mushy in texture. It was edible but far from expectations. Others seem to enjoy their dishes so the night was not a complete disaster. Check finally arrives and I notice a 3% service charge. I inquire as to the charge and I'm told it is to help cover increased wages. Wait, I am supposed to pay the owners a fee to cover staff. Service was not good as noted and yet a fee above tip and regular charges is on my bill. Our server says she will take the charge off if I don't want to pay it. Without hesitation I concur and service charge is removed. This review could have easily been 2 stars but staff although incredibly slow were very polite and therefore review is 3 stars. Sorry, but I feel actively misled. I was looking for a good restaurant. This felt like the Applebee's of trying to find a gastropub. The menu looks good, the website is slick, there is a seasonal menu and promises of trying to use local ingredients, but the food was gross. Incredibly greasy and saucy. Items such as teriyaki chicken, spicy cauliflower, and fries had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for hours - stale and gummy. I can't believe this is a tacky chain place. I didn't even think it was legal to say "scratch kitchen" and "gastropub" on a place of this caliber. Service was also slow, disorganized and obviously overworked. Just a horrible experience. DO NOT BE FOOLED! This food is mediocre. There is tons of amazing food in Portland, no reason to come here. read more

We had a FANTASTIC experience at the Thirsty Lion for our company's holiday party! We brought a group of around 17 into the restaurant and they had not only excellent service, but well paced service! We were evil, and almost everyone of us ordered the Holiday Ribeye (which was STELLAR) and they were able to get them all out in less than 45 minutes. There was one part where we ordered more than the restaurant could provide and Howard came to our table and apologized and made it up to us, took responsibility and showed his MASTERFUL skills in hospitality. Our company is a hotel that has the pleasure of welcoming guests from their company, so as a colleague in hospitality I cannot commend Howard's skills, attitude and team enough. Also! Our server Dennis was a pro at handling such a disorganized group as ours. He and the team paced the whole 2 hours phenomenally and truly made the meal into an EXPERIENCE that will be looked at as a quality event for a long time. Thirsty Lion is a must stop for anyone coming by Washington Square. read more

Their food is good yet you can't hear your own conversations because the music is so loud. If you ask staff if they can turn it down they tell you sorry we can't. Someone I'm having lunch with soon suggested this location and I declined this option and suggested a different restaurant. read more

Super huge menu and the food is generally good. But it is very very expensive for what you for what it is. The reason for the low rating is the drinks. The cocktail list is seriously lacking for Portland's foodie reputation. Also not a great place to watch a game as the TVs are small and above the bar. Also not a great place for a conversation because it's quite loud. Which is not their fault. It's just the acoustics. Very popular very crowded. We ordered a variety of appetizers, dinners, and desserts. Everything was very good. We were enjoying the company of our visiting friends so we didn't mind the long wait for our food and drinks. The only person who checked on us was I'm guessing another server or bartender who was very friendly and understanding, he also was the one who we payed with at the end. Brunch disappointment usually this is a great spot to meet up and eat met family for brunch on Sunday - ordered the avocado toast --- seriously the WORST effort I have ever seen -- 2 slices of whole wheat bread - toasted and cut diagonally and topped with what looked and tasted like the small guacamole containers from Costco... that's IT - ??? bread and some brown guacamole spread on top ...true - that is the definition of 'avocado toast' - but i have never seen such a weak presentation and quality statement from a full-service restaurant EVER if you are going to 'half-ass' the brunch effort then you should close it and just serve the lunch menu my wife had the Huevos rancheros...better than the avocado toast but not even close to something that you would order again either read more
