Stuffed hash brown with sausage links
    Lori K.

It was a chilly morning and my sister and I were looking for a diner with "stick to your ribs" food and coffee that would "smack" her in the face. Enter Miller's Homestead. We easily found parking and were shown to a table within 5 minutes of arriving. The staff and customers were all friendly. The menu had plenty of enticing options and they serve Illy coffee. We both loved our food. She had an omelette and I had the stuffed had brown with a side of sausage. The portions are generous so we both had to take boxes which came in handy for second breakfast a few hours later. As an added perk, the bathroom was super clean. Loved this place!

We tried this place on a whim on the way to meet friends. What a solid choice for us. Our server was super nice and sweet, and very in top of things. I liked that comparing their menu they clearly updated it often. We tried the chicken fried steak and an omelet. The chicken fried steak had an incredible crunch however the meat itself was a little tough compared to others we've had. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The omelet was tasty, potatoes were a little underseasoned but overall really good. THE BISCUIT. The way it was hands down the BEST biscuit I've had in my entire life - and I've had them all over the south as well. If I wasn't so full I would've ordered another. Highly recommend that. Overall I think we would try swinging by again if we were in the area - it is nice that it's right off the highway

    French Toast

I have been a customer for at least 20 years. (Heck, I still have an old stamp card from back when Joe John was there). I'm gonna try to be brief. Well yesterday, I called in to pick up a french toast meal near closing. I picked it up close to 3pm. I was so hungry that I pulled over to a parking lot to take a bite but was unpleasantly surprised by the grayish looking french toast. Long story short, I called and reported it and was told I'd have to wait to talk to the manager (today). I called 9:47 this morning but he wasn't in. I left my number for him to call me. He didn't. I called again and got the answering machine; 3rd time, there was a weird recording. So, I went back to the store for a refund. An elderly man was summoned; I told him the story and showed him the food. He said it look fine to him. I told him I've never seen it look like that. He proceeded to get my money from the till and threw it on the counter/podium. I stood there and waited for him to hand it to me. He looked at me as to say, "What else do you want?" while bucking his eyes. I said aren't you gonna give it to me the same way I gave it when I purchased it. He picked it up and shoved it to me. I said, "So, that's the way you treat a 20-year customer?" He mumbled something as I walked away. I'm very disappointed in Miller's. I was not bothered by the food not being up to par. Stuff happens; especially at the end of a workday. It was great back in the day but in the past few years, not so much. But to treat me unkindly with no apologies is just rude. A Caucasian friend warned me a while ago about her "non-white" husband and kids were treated there -- but that had never been my experience. NOW, I get it. Deuces.

Great portion sizes and fun flavors. Not the everyday breakfast Americans are used to. We also shared the Ebelskivers with lemon curd and jam. Those are always good and you have to get them when you go there. The one we went to was in the Scandinavian community center and it has a really nice clean vibe to it. It has large windows so there so much light. They have a little store in the building that you can browse around while you wait. It's a great place if you're down for something different for breakfast.

Elmer's is always solid I might add - so we weren't relinquishing anything. We ordered seasonal breakfast items and a coffee and a couple mimosas. Everything was great! Everything was also super expensive! Now to be fair, my husband always has to order a savory and a sweet item, so we got more food than we needed but it was nearly $100 bucks after tip. Entrees were basically $20 a pop. I really, really do like Elmer's, but it shouldn't be a toss up between Elmer's and Fogo De Chao - the two for two would literally have been within a ten dollar difference. In my head without paying attention I imagined in the $12-14 per plate price point. I regret nothing, but was just taken aback by the pricing, and the difference of how high it is in comparison to a Cafe Murrayhill, Store Street Cafe, or even Babica Hen. All less expensive per plate by quite a bit. Will we go back to Elmer's, I'm sure. But thought it was worth noting!

Our server was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, quick, and always checking in at just the right times. Honestly, 10/10 service and a big reason we'd come back. As for the food, I'd say it was solid. We skipped some of their popular waffle dishes and stuck with more traditional breakfast options. Everything was well-seasoned, the portions were generous, and we left full. Nothing really stood out as a "wow" dish, but it was a good, satisfying breakfast. The drinks were decent as well. The atmosphere is pretty simple and doesn't have a lot of wow factor, but it feels like a neighborhood breakfast spot where the focus is on good food and even better hospitality. Overall, a solid local place with outstanding service, and next time we'll have to come back and give those famous waffles a try.

When we moved to Oregon, it was under construction but we kept hearing how good it was - in fact, all the local FB pages would gush about it when a newcomer would ask about the best restaurant. And once it finally opened, we tried it, but it was kind of like Marie calendars and Shari's, but local. Ok, but not what we had expected for all the hype. So, after trying a handful of options it seemed Bannings was the only place we could still get breakfast so I begrudgingly agreed. Well, I was mistaken! I got the breakfast enchiladas and a strawberry orange mimosa. Now, the mimosa - I'll get that out of the way first. It was weird - it looked curdled. It just had mashed strawberry at the bottom and it actually was quite good. I'd do a normal mimosa in the future, but good. But the enchiladas - delicious. Like, I'll come back again and again for those. And they didn't charge me extra for the avocado, which I think is righteous because I asked for no hash browns. But not all places would do that, they'd nickel and dime even if you passed on one side for another. Additionally; my husband likes a savory breakfast and a sweet one too - so he often gets two breakfasts and though he may not eat all of both he gets that savory and sweet. Well, the omelettes come with 3 pancakes. Perfection. And, I took 3 bites of them - I usually might try 1 or not at all - they are very very good. Last - it did not break the bank. I've about ruled out breakfast out because of how crazy expensive the places that should be reasonable are. This was reasonable - PLEASE DONT CHANGE!! All in all 5 stars, will be back for breakfast; and hey - when I'm wrong I can admit I was wrong! Give them a try if you haven't!
