    Happy hour chips and queso
    Eliza D.

We came here after walking out on Murphy's next door (didn't even order)--still set on happy hour drinks and wanting to make use of our paid parking. The outdoor courtyard looked promising, but once inside, we were met with a dim, dated space and a strange vibe. My husband was hungry, so we stayed. He ordered the Monte Cristo--the smallest we've ever seen--served with what tasted like leftover fries. The happy hour drinks? Limited to a few beers the waiter was vague about. We ordered the $4 chips and queso, which somehow managed to be worse than canned. Hoping to salvage things, we tried a game of pool--but the lone table was so close to the wall, we couldn't take proper shots. The check came on one of those tip-prompting tablets that guilt you into generosity. I think my husband still tipped, out of sheer kindness. But wouldn't recommend this place. Honestly, it's getting harder and harder to find a decent restaurant these days.

    Bison Burger

Stopped by while in town to get the bison burger I had been craving for so long. The service was attentive and very polite. The burger was on point and tasty. If you are looking for a bison burger check it out.

Dog friendly! They even bring water out of the pups.

Outdoor patio is great and the place is dog friendly which brought us here. Nacho Grande barely had any meat which wasn't good to begin with. It had liquid nacho cheese and shredded cheese, which was confusing. And there wasn't much of either. Really the nacho were not good at all. It looked nice and large inside.

    Pool Table

Visiting from California, I was trying to find a decent place to go for dinner. Everyone at the hotel was recommending this place, so I decided to try it. It was awesome! The service was very quick and the food was delicious! Definitely hope to come back here someday.

Seating outside by the fire pit.

As a local, this place is underrated. The food is always consistent and delicious. I had the Chicken Caprese sandwich which is new and it was amazing!! Also I want to shout out RJ for being so kind and making our experience truly so enjoyable. Highly recommend.

A group of us stopped into Thirsty's for a quick beer and light bite. Free parking can be found on the street. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Indoors is spacious and can easily accommodate large groups. Thirsty's offers a generous selection of local craft beer. Service was friendly and efficient.

They serve your dog a complimentary bowl of water!

Fries were old. Guacamole tasted like it was from a bag... that in itself says it all. Meh is all I can say about our meal.

We started our evening at Sear Steakhouse with some excellent drinks. The thyme mocktail was crisp…read moreand refreshing, and my husband's old-fashioned was fragrant and well-balanced, complete with a perfect bada bing cherry. His only note was a preference for a single large ice cube rather than crushed, but overall the bar clearly knows what it's doing. The appetizers set a great tone. Warm sourdough was fresh and comforting. I enjoyed the bright, crisp house salad, while my husband's pumpkin soup was silky, savory, and perfectly seasonal. We both ordered the 7-ounce filet mignon, and the kitchen truly delivered! His medium-rare was tender and juicy with a beautiful sear, and my medium-well was still succulent--proof of precise cooking. They have an outstanding variety of cool, reasonably priced side dishes. My husband was excited about the Queen's honey carrots which were tender and flavorful (though the honey glaze was very subtle) and the creamy mashed potatoes that are part of the steak dish, were nicely executed. I didn't realize my filet came with mashed potatoes underneath, so I ordered a loaded, baked potato as my side, and ended up with extra potato (which I'm not complaining about whatsoever lol). We also enjoyed the whiskey cream sauce with mushrooms, which added a gentle smoky creamy richness, and the onion soubise, which was pure sweet comfort. Dessert was a highlight, as we celebrated my husband's birthday - we ordered all three featured desserts: The crème brûlée had a perfectly crackled top and smooth vanilla bean custard, the flourless chocolate dessert was deeply rich with espresso notes, and the butter cake was the total star - warm, moist, and decadently buttery. Each dessert was excellent in its own way, but that perfectly sinful butter cake stole the show! The atmosphere was inviting--warm wood tones, comfortable booths, well-balanced lighting, and enough TVs near the bar to keep my sports fan husband happy. Service was friendly and pleasant, though we found ourselves wishing for a bit more attentiveness. With a very quiet dining room, very early in the evening (we had a 4 PM reservation), there were moments when water refills lagged and opportunities for wine suggestions went unoffered (and we were definitely wanting to order some red with our steaks, but gave up because by the time there was an opportunity, we were finished with our steaks). We also briefly looked into the small private dining room on our way through the bar, and while we were greeted politely by one of the employees who was sitting in there, it felt like they missed the perfect opportunity to highlight the space for potential events. That said, nothing detracted significantly from the experience--it was simply a matter of polish. A touch more proactive engagement could elevate an already strong offering into something exceptional. Overall, Sear Steakhouse delivered an enjoyable and memorable evening. The food, drinks, and desserts are clearly strengths, and with just a little added focus on service flow and guest engagement, this restaurant has all the makings of a true standout in Rapid City. We look forward to returning and trying new things!

I'm really torn on this review because I've only been to Sear Steakhouse twice, and the experiences…read morewere completely different. The first visit was for a work event in the back room (not sure if that made a difference), and it was outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection--my steak literally melted in my mouth, and the sides were hot and delicious. I couldn't stop raving about it afterward. The second visit, after talking it up to my family, was a letdown. They were busy, and maybe that played a role, but it just wasn't the same. My steak was mediocre, and my husband was genuinely confused why I had claimed it was one of the best steaks I'd had in a long time. Unfortunately, when it comes to restaurants, the bad tends to outweigh the good. We haven't been back, and I can't justify the price tag when there are other great steak options in town. I know places can have off days, and maybe that's what happened--but I'm not willing to return to find out.

This restaurant was one I found during a trip to Rapid City, SD and through YELP, so shout out to…read moreYELP. This is very much a diner style restaurant in the very best sense of the word, "DINER." The night I dined here, it was somewhat after the usual dinner rush, so the crowds were gone and the hostess led me to a corner booth near the back of the restaurant and handed me a menu. Like many diners you may have eaten at, the menu at COLONIAL HOUSE is huge. As I get older, huge menus are becoming more intimidating because they offer a large volume of selections that you have to choose from while a server is waiting (sometimes not all that patiently). That having been said, there is enough variety on the menu here that if you can't find something you'd like, you are probably a very picky eater. One surprise and also an intimidating one was the humongous portions that are delivered when your plate arrives. I knew immediately that I would not be able to finish the meal and resolved not to try and ask for a take-out box once I ate what I could finish. My dinner (what I managed to eat was excellent) and the server had no problem providing me with a take-out box. The food kept well in my hotel's room fridge and reheated well the next day for lunch. The baked products at COLONIAL HOUSE were a feast for the eyes and I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake to take with me back to my hotel. Mouthwatering delight! If you are visiting Rapid City and want to completely SKIP over the far too numerous chain restaurants in the area and get far better food brought to you by servers who actually seem to like their jobs and the reputation of their employer, look no further than COLONIAL HOUSE. Just make sure you come with a completely empty stomach and a big appetite.

The place was selected by realtor as she is a native of Rapid City and knows the restaurant well and highly recommended it. Interestingly, it was not busy when I arrived a little before Noon. It grew somewhat more crowded as lunchtime went on. My realtor and I both ordered BLT sandwiches which came out promptly. I asked for mine on white toast; the bacon was cooked perfectly, and the lettuce was crisp and the tomato perfectly ripe and juicy. It made for a nice little mess! :-) The establishment has been redone internally and while the building may have once been a car repair garage, it is clean, inviting and decorated well. Our server was excellent. I plan to try the place for dinner when I am next in Rapid City. Give it a try, their selections are pretty comprehensive and reasonably priced.

We specifically came to this bar to try their chislic, and it honestly wasn't bad! Personally, I'm not a huge fan of fried meats, but I'm glad this spot had the meat lightly fried and also was not salted too much. It came with about 9 pieces, and when ordering, I was asked about how well I wanted the meat cooked. Their appetizer also comes garnished with green onions, and there is also a sauce (not sure exactly what it was made of), but the chislic itself had enough taste on its own. For a Monday night, there were about 10-20 people inside watching football or having a drink, with plenty of seating and a relaxed vibe for someone who wants to come in for a drink.
