Left over fat and gristle. My 13 oz NY strip was more like 6 oz.

Place very open, seated promptly. Thurston was our waiter...delightful young man. Appetizers...the goat cheese logs-- tdf! The tenderloin bites fabulous. Caesar was excellent...surprised missing anchovies. I ordered the 13 oz NY strip. Came over mashed (delicious) The steak --done very poorly, no crust-sear??!! (Place is called SEAR!) Full of gristle and fat. Ordered a nice Merlot...first glass was old-sent back. Bartender opened new bottle... nice. Apps --out of the park. The star--steak--fizzled.

My wife and I stopped at Sear steakhouse for dinner tonight. We started with drinks. I got the Sturgis red ale and my wife had the peach whiskey both were excellent. We had the truffle Brie cheese dip with soft pita chips drizzled with honey this was awesome. I had the sirloin steak with truffle butter and my wife had the filet both cooked to perfection. I got the crispy Brussels sprouts which were very good. Our server Talon was excellent and had great suggestions. The restaurant looks elegant and intimate. We had a great time at this place

Sear Steakhouse in Rapid City markets itself as a farm-to-table, locally sourced steakhouse in the Black Hills, and it definitely has a few highlights worth noting, though our experience was a bit mixed overall. We arrived to find the staff busy setting up a large table for a group, so it took a while before we were seated. That said, once we were settled, the staff proved to be extremely friendly and welcoming. A nice touch right away was the warm bread served with olive oil, a comforting start to the meal. The menu included shareables, soups, and salads, which we ordered first. The carrot soup was creamy with a subtle sweetness--nicely done. However, service was somewhat inconsistent. Our empty dishes from the soup and salad lingered on the table, and though staff walked by several times, they weren't as attentive as we would have hoped. One standout feature is that Sear doesn't impose a dress code, making it a relaxed choice for locals and visitors alike. Another plus: they offer a kids menu, which was perfect since we had our two-year-old granddaughter in tow. She's an aspiring food critic in her own right and gave her approval to the mac and cheese--a win for families dining out. The steaks, which are all regionally sourced, are the centerpiece of the menu. While the quality was good, the overall dining experience felt more in line with a local steakhouse competing with national chains, rather than a truly elevated "farm-to-table" concept. A unique aspect highlighted on their website is the emphasis on customer experiences as part of their brand identity, and you can sense the effort being made to create that welcoming environment. Bottom line: Sear Steakhouse is a solid option if you want to support a local Black Hills business rather than dining at a chain. Friendly staff, a kid-friendly menu, and locally sourced steaks are its strengths, though service attentiveness and overall polish could be improved.

First off, Tim was an excellent server, he was attentive, never let our drinks run dry and he could crack a joke to make it the best experience. The restaurant itself was so clean and elegant looking down to the glassware. Our food; rated by my dad, two young children, and myself, was all rated a 10/10. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. As you can tell by the picture, not only was it delicious but it was plated by a professional. My steak was cooked perfectly, and the bowl was unique and packed full of flavor! Onion rings were definitely a hit and clearly homemade! Sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had but didn't like the bacon butter... GO TRY THEIR FOOD! You won't regret it!!

Hands down this is one of the best restaurants if not the best one in the area! We were really happy about everything we got and that steak really hit after a day of hiking. The service was welcoming and professional, the ambiance was great with really classy interior style. We came to visit from out of state and this was the best meal we had in SD

This place taste way better than it looks. The service is great and the servers are super attentive. I had Tim as my server and a girl who just started. I forgot her name, but she was the sweetest. The food tastes amazing and they have great enhancements for the dishes. Food is farm to table and has a healthy twist to their soups. Daily soups, fresh salads, perfectly cooked snake river farms ribeye, and crispy fries. I can't complain. The sweet carrot pureed soup was the perfect start to the meal after a long day hiking. Brie with mushroom pita appetizer was phenomenal. The caesar salad was crisp and fresh. Steak with the whiskey creme enhancer was a game changer. Perfect combo. Truffle fries were fried to a perfect crisp. Prices are great for the amount of food you get. Will be back whenever I am in the area.

Delicious! Can't say enough - the steak, chicken (our fav), carmelized carrots, brussel sprouts, and salads were outstanding. Might visit Rapid City again just to get another order of the lemon chicken!

Wonderful Experience From start to finish, this meal was excellent. The service was attentive, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. The bread with roasted garlic oil was a great start. My Caesar salad was fresh with a delicious dressing and plenty of Parmesan. The filet with spicy garlic butter and truffle fries was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. My husband's carrot onion soup was outstanding, and his shrimp pasta was very good. Being from out of town, so glad we made the right choice and came here!

Black rice, tofu and edamame delicious!!!

This is hearing damage level, folks! Service was awful. I ordered a margarita rocks, NO SALT. She brought it WITH salt. When I (finally) flagged her down she acted irked and argued that I ordered WITH salt. (Ummm no - but I will give her benefit of doubt because maybe she didn't hear me because it was so loud) They use germ laden self-pay ziosks because hey! Tip minimum of 20% for poor service quality and naturally we were charged for food we didn't order - two people and a $180 bill? No way. I ordered a $15.99 meal and so did my dinner companion and we each had just one drink and no extras. Once again, it took time to get any server to notice and resolve issue - no apology, just annoyance. I think they're annoyed because it's a SCAM and if you pay more without catching the error they get a bigger tip- funny they brought us the right meals then tried to charge us for Dallas ribeye and a large filet dinner and multiple drinks IN ADDITION to my $15.99 sirloin meal and his single pork chop meals. And you charge extra for butter for a sweet potato - talk about nickel and diming dining. Ugh! The FOOD was good and that is the only reason this review gets 2 stars instead of one. My medium rare sirloin steak was perfect - better than you should expect from a chain steakhouse - and my dinner companion liked his chop. Sides and side salads were generous and fresh. Still, I likely won't be back without noise cancelling earbuds and more patience though. I remain incensed with ziosks in general but even more so when I feel intentionally SCAMMED. (In this case, I think the manager should have apologized instead of continuing to chat up the hostess at the hostess stand, but hey! That's me. I'm just the customer after all... Be forewarned - they will probably be rude and overcharge you because I think it's SOP. Check your bill before you do part of their service job and pay by ziosk.

This restaurant was one I found during a trip to Rapid City, SD and through YELP, so shout out to…read moreYELP. This is very much a diner style restaurant in the very best sense of the word, "DINER." The night I dined here, it was somewhat after the usual dinner rush, so the crowds were gone and the hostess led me to a corner booth near the back of the restaurant and handed me a menu. Like many diners you may have eaten at, the menu at COLONIAL HOUSE is huge. As I get older, huge menus are becoming more intimidating because they offer a large volume of selections that you have to choose from while a server is waiting (sometimes not all that patiently). That having been said, there is enough variety on the menu here that if you can't find something you'd like, you are probably a very picky eater. One surprise and also an intimidating one was the humongous portions that are delivered when your plate arrives. I knew immediately that I would not be able to finish the meal and resolved not to try and ask for a take-out box once I ate what I could finish. My dinner (what I managed to eat was excellent) and the server had no problem providing me with a take-out box. The food kept well in my hotel's room fridge and reheated well the next day for lunch. The baked products at COLONIAL HOUSE were a feast for the eyes and I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake to take with me back to my hotel. Mouthwatering delight! If you are visiting Rapid City and want to completely SKIP over the far too numerous chain restaurants in the area and get far better food brought to you by servers who actually seem to like their jobs and the reputation of their employer, look no further than COLONIAL HOUSE. Just make sure you come with a completely empty stomach and a big appetite.

A simple charcuterie plate intended to be shared barely make it halfway around our table and was not replenished. We were offered wine or beer (included) and given a choice of 3 entrees. The Missus and I ordered the honey pepper salmon. The entrées tasted okay, except that everything arrived lukewarm and the portions were stingy.
