Dish misrepresented, sticky tables, no flavor. Cute sunny spot with friendly service but food was severely lacking. Ordered the Boujee Bene which tried to be an elevated dish of tequila flambéed shrimp ceviche on arepas topped with poached eggs and hollandaise. The arepas were actually bland masa corn cakes, so they were thick and dense with no crispness or browning. I asked the server about this and she confirmed they no longer made arepas but hadn't updated the menu. This could have been forgiven if the rest of the dish had any flavor beyond raw onion and garlic. The hollandaise had no flavor either, and they had no salsas or anything else to add other than tobacco and Chahula. The shrimp was minimal and also bland. There was a corn "salsa" (also bland) so that added some texture, but the dish overall was quite disappointing. My friend ordered the farmers table breakfast and said pancakes and Perkins were better. Maybe other meals are better, but brunch was disappointing. read more

We were driving by this place one day and decided we would come in for breakfast and we finally made it in this past weekend and it didn't disappoint. The service was spectacular we were seated fast and didn't have to wait too long for our food. We started off with the bottomless mimosas which were made perfectly. I liked the deviled eggs more than I thought I would. They had a nice crunch and good flavors. I got the boozy French toast, I was a little disappointed that there was no fresh fruit on the menu but the French toast was perfect. The hash browns were a little over cooked for me but overall it was a pretty solid breakfast and we will definitely visit again soon. I met up with a friend for dinner, halfway point was Hopkins. I'm a fan of deviled eggs and saw it on their menu. They were creative to coat and fry the white part of the eggs, pricey too. 2 pieces for $6. Ambiance felt like a diner, lots of local patrons. My friend and I also tried the paul bunion dummies, they were tasty. I had to ask for hot sauce, I'm a buffalo sauce girl. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN THE METRO AND IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE. I DON'T say this lightly!!! They are "Midwest farm fresh food" but not too stuffy. The place is great for date night or a random Tuesday cocktail on the patio. The best bite I have ever eaten in MN was their Brussel sprouts appetizer that came with an amazing (amazing, I'm still thinking about it a week later) cheese sauce, sourdough bread and bacon bits. We had a few salads too and they were amazing. Raspberry ranch, who knew??? The desserts and drinks were elaborate. The staff was refreshingly passionate about what they were serving. The best part? The prices were absolutely reasonable, something for any budget. We spent 3 hours here just eating more and having a great time (who does that???) My wife and I dropped our car off for service at the Honda dealership and took the half mile walk to downtown Hopkins to Thirty Bales. This place has been on my list for years, but to be honest, the lunch menu has everything I want, but they only serve brunch on the weekends. We decided to try it while they changed the oil. I ordered an IPA to start from our super awesome bartender on our bar stools. Then I saw it! The pulled pork sandwich was on the brunch menu! With an option for a salad on the side! SCORE! I thought I ordered blue cheese dressing, but when the wonderful salad came out, they gave me a small dish of blue cheese crumbles, which they charged me $2.50 for. Weird. Oh well, they were a nice addition to the fresh salad. I ordered a second IPA to go with my pork sandwich, which had a perfectly toasted bun and piled high with juicy pig. Great ambiance and service! Our server was very friendly and nice. My tried and true order is the biscuits and gravy. They have a more southern or Spanish take on their menu. The biscuits and gravy has a really yummy chorizo gravy with the perfect kick of flavor. I also tried the chicken tinga tacos, and I did not care for these. I had such high hopes, but the flavor wasn't it for me, and the tortilla was a homemade, soft, thicker corn tortilla that just kind of fell apart. as a group, we split the devilish eggs, and maybe the batch we got wasn't great. Every time I come here, sadly, it gets worse and worse.. the service was good but slow, but the food was not good. I tried the brunch poutine and it was such an odd mix of flavors.. the shrimp ceviche (which didn't have any shrimp in it) doesn't really mix well with either chorizo gravy or chicken tinga.. the cheese was crusted on the fries and there wasn't any pull to it. Stopped by for a late lunch on a Friday. Cute place in the heart of downtown Hopkins. Open and bright setting. Parking garage nearby so easy to get to. We were seated right away and had water brought out. The server came over to ask for drinks. I asked what would be a unique beer to get since they seemed to have a decent beer menu. Her response "Mich Golden Light" which I found a little weird considering there were a bunch of local beers on the menu. Ended up ordering a sour which was very tasty. Ordered the devilish eggs minus the bacon for appetizer. I got the short rib pot pie and the wife got the burger for our entrees. The devilish eggs were interesting in that they were deep fried. This made them warm on the outside and cold on the inside. They were tasty but kind of threw you off with the difference in temperature. The pot pie was more of a deconstructed pot pie. Interesting idea, came out hot, had a crusty top with plenty of beef and vegetables. Unfortunately, it was very bland and lacked seasoning. Adding some salt and pepper helped, but the flavor was definitely lacking in the dish. While the top was nice and flaky, the bottom was soaked and soggy and not my favorite. Overall I would pass on this dish. While the idea was unique, the execution was definitely lacking. The fries with the burger were good. Crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. The burger was cooked to the requested temperature but again lacked seasoning and flavor. So overall not recommending the burger. So while the service was decent and the restaurant was a good clean environment, the food unfortunately was disappointing. Loved our server. Fries were hot and plentiful. Hubby liked walleye sandwich but wished he had asked for more sauce. Sandwich was large but bun was way to thick. We'll ask for a different bun next time. I had the Chicken Caesar sandwich. Bun was soft and delicious. Chicken, etc was good, but I only ate half. Ate the other half today and realized that THIS half had more bacon and more sauce. I wish I had eaten that half the first night because I thought it needed more sauce and bacon. We parked in the ramp right across the street which was close and provided easy accessibility. I opted for the short rib pot pie and it was the perfect cold weather meal. Comfort food at its hot, cozy best. I ate the whole bowl of short ribs, veggies, and a lovely crisp topping. Staff was wonderful, prompt and never pushy. Was brought here by my brother in law who actually told us he used to work there years ago and that its family owned. We came for dinner and didn't seem too busy but looks like it could get full fast on the weekends. They definitely have a lot of options on their menu.. We came during lent and we had plenty to choose from. They also have plenty of options on drinks from beers to cocktails & cocktails. The food was very good and would love to eat here again to try other things off the menu. The inside is pretty basic. Nothing really stood out. We had a group of 6 for my wife's birthday. We came for brunch and they had only one server and a bartender. We waited almost 30 min for someone to take our order and finally the bartender came and took our order. Server forgot Coffee and Hot Tea when he brought our order. Came back and we asked for ketchup and it finally came after everyone was finished. We have been here three times in the past and everything had always been great. The food was almost cold because it had been sitting for so long as server was busy with about 20 tables. They were overwhelmed and I felt bad for them, but that is no excuse for the Kind of money we were spending with 6 people. RC and I stopped here after picking up my car from a nearby repair shop. I had promised him lunch for driving me out there and neither of us had ever been to 30 Bales. What a gem! Warm and inviting, the only complaint I have is the scarce parking. Our server, Mikaela, greeted us and asked if we'd been there before then told us about the menu and specials and left to get our drinks. I had a hard time choosing among all the delicious-sounding dishes, but settled on the Faroe Island Salmon which arrived perfectly cooked to a mid-rare, served on a bed of parsnip purée with sautéed greens. It was so good I had to stop myself from licking my plate. RC had the Spicy chicken sandwich and 1919 root beer which he inhaled. I decided to try this place for the first time late Sunday afternoon. It was open and it was not full. There was no one there to greet customers. Then a man who I presumed to be the manager appeared. He asked if I had a reservation. I did not have one. He said they were having an event and he couldn't help me, all in a mildly terse tone. There was no sign posted indicating there was I private event. I felt very put off by the experience and will not return. It's a shame too because my girlfriend and I dine out often and were interested in trying some places in Hopkins. She was busy so I was going to try this one. Thirty Bales has been on my list of places to try for a while and so glad I finally had the chance to visit. Location is perfect right across the street from Hopkins free parking garage so absolutely no issue with parking. Started with drinks, John Daly and the Purple one. They were both good but not amazing. We ordered the charcuterie board which was more than enough for 2 and would've been perfect for 3-4. Since the charcuterie was larger than we expected, we opted for a split plate of a risotto curry, that was a special, with glasses of wine. It was delicious! We wrapped up splitting the bread pudding dessert, which was the highlight of the meal, and an espresso martini. The menu had a few other things that looked good so might make a return trip. Cocktails were comparable to many other resteraunts so I wouldn't go there only for drinks. Service was also average, my friend and I used the evening to catch up so we were talking a lot and I don't think the server wanted to intrude but there were a few times that we felt unattended with empty drinks or waiting for what felt like quite a while to order our next course. The chipotle aioli drizzle was yummy and the main flavor of the dish, so I'd have liked a bit more of that on top. The rest of the table enjoyed their pancakes and basic breakfast - one even said it was some of the best bacon he's ever had! The coffee was always full, and the waitress was friendly. We biked over here, and they were a bit rude about how we should store our bikes by the patio. But otherwise, the patio was open and quite lovely. No complaints on this wonderful spot for brunch. We are from Utah so we found this through Yelp. We have no complaints about any of the food that we had. I had the chicken Tinga tacos, which were great. combination of eggs, pork avocado, hash, brown and some homemade tortillas. I ended up asking for Cholula sauce because I wanted a little bit spicier, but the flavor was great. It was a perfect amount and I was full. I couldn't eat my full side of bacon. My wife had the French toast and enjoyed it. No complaints there. Our pickiest eater loved her pancakes, and she also got a side of scrambled eggs which she ate with no problem. If you're asking me to make a recommendation, I would say to ask for the bacon a little bit more crispy, because I like mine near burnt, that would be my only suggestion or complaint. Aside from that, everything was stellar, including our service from Martha. We came here on a Saturday morning so parking could be a little bit of a challenge, depending on what they have going on in the area. My family was visiting and this was a great brunch spot! 30 Bales Irish Coffee - comes in a pint glass which seemed weird, but it actually looked really pretty. It tasted good too! Devilish Eggs- deep fried & topped w/ bacon, chives, & paprika. obsessed! These were so yummy. Boozy Frech Toast - choice of 2 or 4 French toast slices topped w/ a house-made bourbon caramel sauce & powdered sugar. My mom got this and really liked it. Farm Breakfast - 2 eggs , hashbrowns, choice of protein, & toast. This was my dad's item. He is definitely a basic breakfast guy so it was nice to see they has basic to Boujee. We enjoyed a really good pre-concert meal at Thirty Bales last night (Friday, March 21st, 2025). It's a perfect place to meet if you are going to an event across the street at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. It's also adjacent to each public parking. The food, drinks and ambience were really good. I had a white fish dish (which was a special last night) and it as fantastic! I have attached a pic. I highly recommend. My wife had their beet salad with chicken which she enjoyed very much. The portions were more than sufficient and exceeded expectations! Service was "pretty good", however our server got a bit overwhelmed half way through our dinner and we didn't see much of her. She recovered a bit but it was clear she got really busy at times we couldn't find her. Granted it was the dinner hour on Friday night but that's what they are all about. Holy moly. I got a gift card to Thirty Bales for Christmas so we decided to visit on a Thursday afternoon around 5pm. The place was pretty empty and we parked easily enough. The only thing I didn't like during my experience was that the wait staff took a long time to visit us which was strange because the place was pretty empty. But wow. The FOOD. I've had good pasta before but never this good. Wow. I can't rave about the food enough. I got the Chefs Special shrimp Alfredo and I am so glad I tried it. I managed to finish all of it but wow, it is DECADENT. Highly recommended if it's still available. I tried the Chorizo Bolognese (my brother ordered it) and it was a little spicy for me but it was so flavorful. Lastly we ordered the Carrot Cake for dessert and it was SO GOOD OMG. Most people don't wait for dessert but I can't recommend it enough. I wasn't a fan of the Bale Burger my mom ordered (too dry for me) but she really liked it. I also looked at the dinner menu and saw many of the same items and a few more. This place is a gem. We started with one order of fried egg. We shared the one egg at our table for three. There is not much per person because it is just one egg size but we all loved the bites we had. I selected the Beer braised pork sandwich with Alabama white BBQ and bale onions on a brioche bun $17. Normal size bun piled high with very crispy and tasty pork. There was just the right amount of sauce. I had the side salad with the house raspberry dressing. Wow very nice. It was white and creamy, I was expecting red and runny. Others had the avocado salad. Vert nice with corn, mango and other nice things. $16. The jalapeño cream cheese was not very spicy hot. It added a nice cooling sensation to a bite of salad. We shared the bread pudding. Wonderful. Nice size for $9. Very nice flavor and not too sweet. Hot Chocolate drink was good and they refilled. Mamosa $9 Service by Martha T was very good. Overall every dish was tasty but not flamboyant or overpowering. It seems the chef has a wonderfully delicate touch with ingredients. (Caroline Glawe??).
