We had a really nice time last weekend at Bar Salotto. While they do not take reservations, we did not have a wait - and it was an enjoyable experience in the back room. We were able to snag a back table so not loud and we can hear the whole table. We started with the Hearts of Palm salad to share. It was perfect to share with three people as a starter and we all loved the lemon vinaigrette. For entrees - I got the thin crust Garden Pizza special - artichokes, pesto, pine nuts, other veggies. I thought it was delicious and it reheated very nicely the next day. Others at the table - got the salmon, sausage pizza and spicy vodka pasta. Everyone enjoyed. Our server (AJ) was fabulous and joked with the table - he made the experience enjoyable as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant. While we're not in Arlington Heights often, it is a place I would recommend. read more

The evening began with the sort of optimism that has historically led men into bankruptcy, war, and second marriages. The hostess appeared wearing a blue-and-white striped sweater hanging off one shoulder like she'd stepped out of an Italian perfume commercial. Around her neck was one of those little cornicello pepper necklaces, dangling just enough to suggest fate had finally decided to throw me a bone. Blue eyes. Not "blue." The kind of blue sailors used to abandon families over. She laughed at one of my jokes. That was all the encouragement my diseased brain required. I immediately conducted a full tactical assessment of the restaurant. The P.O.A. Index... ...was approaching DEFCON 1. Every direction I looked was another devastatingly attractive waitress carrying Aperol Spritzes with effortless confidence. It was like wandering into a government-funded supermodel relocation program. Then... A shadow fell across the table. A man. Our waiter was a man. Christ Almighty. The emotional whiplash nearly snapped my neck. It's like going to the zoo hoping to see lions and discovering the enclosure has been replaced with an accountant named Kevin. There are beautiful women everywhere, and somehow I'm discussing pasta recommendations with a guy who probably knows three different olive oils by taste. Cruel. Absolutely cruel. To his credit, the b@5tard was outstanding. Friendly. Fast. Knew the menu inside and out. Kept the drinks full. Never interrupted. The s.o.b. gave me absolutely nothing to complain about, which only deepened my resentment. The food, meanwhile, was infuriatingly good. The pizzas arrived looking like they'd been blessed by an Italian grandmother carrying unresolved anger from 1947. Thin crust. Fresh mozzarella. Just enough char to remind you that ovens are supposed to flirt with fire, not electricity. The pasta had that unmistakable handmade texture that makes Olive Garden feel like a felony. The cocktails disappeared with alarming speed. By my third Negroni, I was convinced I could hear Dean Martin narrating my life. Walking out, I glanced back toward the hostess one last time. She smiled. For approximately three seconds I considered abandoning my entire life to become a part-time sommelier with absolutely no qualifications. Then reality returned. The male waiter handed me the check. Four stars. The food was phenomenal. The cocktails were dangerous. The hostess should be classified as an Italian national treasure. And our waiter deserves a raise... despite committing the unforgivable crime of existing between me and the waitresses. read more

Bar Salotto adds a lot to the Italian restaurant scene in Arlington Heights. There are a lot of chains in that area and Bar Salatto offers different styles of pizza. My husband and I had the hand stretched Florentine pizza and the pan sausage pizza. Both pizzas were different but you could taste the fresh ingredients. I preferred the pan style pizza with it's breadier dough and caramelized crust. Everything was really good. For dessert we had the Kiki skillet. The cookie was warm and the ice cream was cold. A great summer combination. But bring your jacket because the restaurant was freezing. I highly recommend Bar Salotto! read more

Delicious is all I can say about Bar Salotto ! We went on a day that wasn't packed so we got seated right away and our waiter was attentive and even gave me a sample of the boozy slush to try ! The watermelon salad was the best with all farm to table ingredients. The pizza was the best I've ever had . I loved the Detroit style . It's not heavy and it's definitely elevated ! Bar Salotto is a hip, family-owned spot in the middle of Arlington Heights. The staff are very friendly, it was busy at 9 p.m., and with all the positive reviews, we came in pretty excited. We started with the crispy eggplant stack (4/5). It hits all the caprese notes on top of perfectly crisp eggplant: cracked pepper and salt, light balsamic on arugula, tomato, and mozzarella. A slightly more acidic tomato than beefsteak would have cut the richness a bit more, but the eggplant itself is the star. The spicy vodka rigatoni (3.5/5) was a solid pasta with a nicely spiced sauce. We added the meatball and that is the topping to get. Well seasoned, with just the right density, and it would pair well with any pasta. I only wish it were larger for the add-on price. Similarly, for the price of the pasta alone, I had hoped for a higher quality noodle. The rigatoni had that bouncy, boxed-pasta texture rather than the firmer bite you get from fresh or good bronze-cut dried pasta. The hearts of palm salad (3/5) was decent. Fresh tomatoes, firm hearts of palm, and perfectly cooked shrimp. The hearts of palm seem preserved, so the citric acid and the generous dressing make the dish much more acidic than it needs to be, overpowering the other ingredients like the richness of the avocado. Overall, the food is good with a few highlights, the base and add-ons feel a bit pricey, and service, while always kind, can be a little inconsistent. Overall mixed review on this, but maybe should have gone with other dishes. read more

I've had this place on my list of "To Try" for a while and I'm glad I finally did! From the outside, it doesn't look very big but inside is spacious and has plenty of seating + a long bar. We came at dinner time and the place had a decent crowd already in there but we were still seated right away. The burrata appetizer was delicious. I loved the cheese with peaches jam. I got the florentine pizza which I thought was fresh and enjoyable. My friend got the pesto special with gluten free pasta which she really liked. Each of us also had a cocktail that was on the specials menu and was made like a slushi (cannot recall the name). So good overall! read more

It is s pleasant space although the lighting is a bit too fluorescent looking which makes it sterile. The take tops are large which is helpful if you are sharing dishes. Our server was very sweet and professional. We split a kale salad with shrimp and the spicy vodka pasta with added sausage. The salad did not come out until we were nearly done with our pasta. We had to ask her where it was and she said they had to recook the shrimp because they had over cooked them the first time. It would have been nice if she had warned us right away when leaving the pasta at the table. They do not have salt or pepper on the tables and we did need it for the salad. The pasta was quite al dente and had great flavor, although it could have used more sausage and the whole dish was barely warm, however we did not complain. The salad was very filling with lots of all of the added ingredients except a little short on the figs. Our friend had the scallops arabiatta and the special pasta of the day gemelli with goat cheese sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts and eggplant. They said both were very tasty. As we entered we could see that at the bar there were some small bowls with potato chips that looked as if they were fried in house. Pricing is not outrageous but not low either. For $26 with the added sausage the portion of pasta was a bit overpriced. We will likely return. read more

I think this is a great spot tucked away in AH! Service is always quick and accurate. They have a short, simple menu but it's done well. I've had different salads and split some different pastas. While I'm not typically a pork eater the Orecchiette pasta w sausage is fantastic! I really like their Caesar salad w Salmon. I keep saying I will try one of their pizzas soon. I can smell them whenever I come here, and nearby tables tend to say great things about the pizza. This is a great spot to visit. read more

I was there again the other night with a friend and it was my first time sitting in the dining room. As always, the food was amazing, the room is beautiful and the music was set at the perfect volume. We had the hearts of palm salad and the mushroom pizza. Both were great - the salad had the perfect amount of saltiness in the cheese and it was perfectly dressed. The pizza was fantastic- garlic sauce and red onion with sautéed mushrooms on an Asiago crust. I don't normally do mushrooms on pizza because they get dried out and chewy, but since these were sautéed they were juicy and had great flavor. Our server was Phil and he was great - checked in the right amount and was very friendly and personable. The only negative I had was that we were sitting right under a fan which got turned up midway through the meal and it felt a little too breezy. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've been to Italy and had the famous sandwiches from All'Antico Vinaio, and these are on par with those Italian sandwiches. You can only get them during brunch on the weekends, but I highly recommend making the trip. The bread is the perfect texture and the shape of it really gives the whole sandwich integrity. The sandwiches are MASSIVE. I split half and Italian and half of a caprese. The Italian is much more dense, and the caprese is a lighter almost refreshing sandwich. This modern chic Italian establishment offers west loop vibes without the hassle of looking for parking and paying for it. Bar Salotto does not take reservations however they do have a waitlist directly on their website. As far as the interior it is sophisticated yet casual at the same time. Dress up or dress down, you will feel at home here whatever attire you choose and not be judged for it. I was here with 1 of my gfs and our server for the evening was Kyleen (spelling?). He was the sweetest person and super friendly. He was also the perfect amount of attentive and didn't hover. I would request him every single time. At 1 point I wanted to invite him to sit with us but reframed, lol. His energy and vibe was just so welcome and caring that I truly think he's the real MVP of the hospitality industry. At one point, Phil, a GM came over to check in and see how everything was doing. I appreciated it and that shows he cares for the restaurant he's at. Once my friend and were leaving a gentleman at the bar also asked us how everything went. I'm going to assume he was the owner which I also appreciated the interaction. If he wasn't the owner then fine, lol. If that was a customer then it shows people keep coming back and I 10000% understand why. For drinks my friend and I did a round of cocktails that were delicious and well balanced. I tried the basil gimlet and she had the pomegranate mule. A little on the pricier side, that would be my only 'con.' For food we had the Tuscan kale salad, broccolini pesto, pepperoni pizza and tiramisu. It's hard for me to pick which course was my favorite since I really enjoyed them all. My friend said her favorite was the pizza. She said all the ingredients went well together and she liked the pan crust and having the option to have it that way. I would order all of these items again and again they were delicious. Wanted to try a new restaurant in the area and decided to Yelp it and came across Bar Salotto. The restaurant was bright, modern & sleek. Once we were seated it took about 15-20 minutes to come by for drinks and water. Once our server came, we ordered drinks but he kept getting things mixed up at the table which is fine as long as the right drinks came to the table but he kept moving it around after we moved it to the right person, which at one point got a little tedious. To start we got the whipped ricotta which needed some honey or additional balsamic/fig on it. It was lacking a bit of flavor. The Caesar salad was decent, the pieces of romaine were pretty big so you do need a knife and fork to eat it. And the garlic rolls were puffed up pizza dough with garlic on the outside. It was nice and warm. We also ordered the classic bolognese, the fig and pig pan pizza and the solotto that our server said was what they we well known for. The classic bolognese was not what we expected at all, while the pasta was a great texture it lacked in seasoning and flavor, maybe needed a tad more garlic, and oregano? Now on to the fig and pig pan pizza was actually my favorite. The crust was delicious but the toppings were hit and miss on some pieces where the fig spread didn't fully hit. So the prosciutto made it a bit salty. The solotto was a bit different, the potatos on top were kinda like chips, but the reason why I didn't enjoy it is because I thought it was a bit too salty. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience the food was okay, the servers were friendly. read more

The waiter was also super friendly, attentive, and helpful! But I give this place 3 stars because the food wasn't excellent. I tried the Florentine pizza, which is just ok, it could be better. The flavor was good, but my pizza was soggy. The spicy vodka pasta wasn't spicy and lacked flavor. Not to mention, my coke was flat! We hosted our daughter's bridal shower at Bar Salotto and it was an incredible experience. Working with Debbie was seamless and such a pleasure. From the planning stages through the day of the event, she was attentive to every detail and made everything run smoothly. We enjoyed a delicious selection of appetizers, salad, pasta, pizzas, and desserts-every single item was absolutely outstanding! Our family and friends are still raving about the food. Fantastic!!! As a previous Nikko's regular in high school waaaayyyy back when in the 00's -- this is an incredible change to this spot and such a gem to have in town! It was very flavorful. but as usual a bit pricey. Our waitress told ius the food is meant for sharing, but the pasta portion was not what I expected for sharing, a bit small. My "boss" heard about this place from a coworker, and since the reviews were very favourable as well, we decided to try it out. Nice decor, in white, black and gray that looked nice and fresh. Waiting a short time for a table near the bar thr bartenders were really nice, offered water and overhearing our conversation on the cosmo slushy, they brought over a sample to try and it was very good. So we got some drinks once seated and ordered the Caesar salad and the grandma's style margarita pizza, since we weee told it's their specialty. Amazing first visit! We tried going to a neighbor restaurant and had issues so we called Bar Salotto to see if they had a height chair for our son. The restaurant was busy as it was a Friday night and the apologized that all were in use. A few minutes went by and we got a call from the manager that one had opened up and would hold the table until we could get there. We met Emily the owner at the door who graciously greeted us and showed us to our table. The cocktails and food came very quickly and were all amazing! We had the Negroni and old fashioned cocktails. Both were expertly made and very good. We ordered the meatballs and pepperoni pizza for dinner. Our kids destroyed the meatballs and were very good. Pizza was cooked to perfection and loved the balance of spicy pepperoni and sweetness of the sauce and honey. We capped the night with the chocolate gelato which our kids loved. Customer service is huge in our booked and the owner and staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time and good food.
