If an individual has vision insurance and health insurance, they are to bill the vision insurance first and then the health insurance. Otherwise it's a type of fraud. I went to their office and what should have been a $10 copay for my office visit, they charged $121. They had my vision insurance and they are the only optometrist I have ever seen for a routine exam that asked for my health insurance information. When I asked them did you bill my vision insurance? The young lady at the desk said nope. Well why not? Now, they did reimburse me the additional $110 that they charged me. But to date still have not charged my vision insurance. Why is that? Oh, I know why, because they'll get a large reimbursement by billing my health insurance. This was for a routine eye exam in order to get new glasses. Not a comprehensive eye exam for cataracts or glaucoma or macular. It was only to get a new prescription for eyewear. I actually read the review by the business owner. Just to be clear, I called my vision insurance before and after my visit . They made it very clear that you are to bill the vision insurance first and then my medical insurance. In the 45 years that I've been paying for my own vision insurance. You're the only company that has ever billed my health insurance first and only. It is a matter of a possible fraudulent business practice. My vision insurance is in the prospect of looking into that and will make recommendation.

They no longer take medicaid (effectively discriminating against disabled, elderly and unemployed people) and are "too busy" to inform their patients about the change (their words not mine) ahead of their visit. They could "hardly contact every client" about an insurance change (Again their words.) Does anyone else get inundated with reminder messages or even advertising messages? Evidently Clarkson's does have the capacity and they are well able to contact all their patients with useful tidbits of information.They just don't think some things are worth mentioning or is it that some of us are not worth contacting? They would rather waste our time than take the trouble. I do value your time. Don't go there.

I went to Clarkson's and ask them if they fix them. I told them I couldn't afford a new pair at that time. They didn't ask why they just fixed them using parts they had already. No charge. Well I recently broke them again. I went back but the girl who fixed them no longer worked there. So I left. Then to my surprise they must have looked up my number and called saying they could try to fix them. They took time to do this and didn't just forget about the lady with the broken frames. For over a decade I went to a business that was around the corner from my home in Fern Creek - after another company acquired them. I knew it was time for a change. Two business later, I can honestly say Mooney EyeCare Center is and will always be my forever home for my eyes. The staff was extremely efficient and friendly. I felt welcomed and comfortable as soon as I walked through the doors. I love the decor! The waiting rooms and the exam rooms all have the same artistic floor that relaxes you and puts you at ease. There was no wait to get placed into an exam room and the wait for my eye doctor was minimal. My optometrist was Dr. Hargus. His eye examination was thorough and he asked appropriate questions as needed. Dr. Hargus was extremely knowledgeable, speaks very clearly and made direct eye contact when discussing my eye assessment with me. He was also friendly. After waiting three weeks to see the specialist, I arrived for my appointment and checked in. When I handed over my insurance card, I was informed that they did not accept my insurance. Instead, I was told I could proceed as a self-pay patient at a cost that was approximately four times what I would have paid if they had accepted my insurance. When I returned to my referring doctor's office to request another referral, I was told they had been hearing about similar experiences from other patients. Based on my experience, this felt like a bait-and-switch. I relied on the information I was given when scheduling the appointment, only to learn after waiting weeks that my insurance was not accepted. At that point, I felt pressured to either pay significantly higher out-of-network costs or delay necessary medical care by starting the referral process over.
