It reminded me of an isolation cell in my father's jail (he was a guard not an inmate.). There was a non- working fireplace * No dining facilities except for breakfast * No on site or nearby parking * No sizable bar * Worn appearance in places (see photos). * Steep and narrow steps to get to our room * Scarce storage space * Minimal electric outlets * When making the reservation for our 55th wedding anniversary I told them that we would be bringing our 18 and year old Daschund. They said there would be a dog bed and dog bowls. Unfortunately, Otto had three seizures two days prior to our arrival, and we had to have him euthanized. There was neither a dog bed nor dog bowls. * Only one trash basket in the bathroom * No heat when it was in the 30s in the morning, 40s by midday, 50s by sunset * No nearby restaurants in walking distance * No automatic refills of water or San Pellegrino, you have to ask * No soft drinks or alcohol in mini fridge * Weak internet signal Now, on the good side: Room was large Staff was friendly and responsive It was exceptionally cold Savannah is a quaint old southern town We are accustomed to real five star hotels like the Waldorf Astoria or The Kimberley in Manhattan or any of the Ritz Carlton properties in Florida

She bought and rebuilt the place after a fire completely destroyed the building. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, but the best thing was her presence and the conversation with her and her wealth of information with a keen sense of humor woven in her stories. She is petite in stature but a giant in encyclopedic facts and story telling. The only flaw was that we arrived close to 11:00 pm, and it was very dark and the house number had been painted over with white paint and it was indistinguishable from the rest of the door frame so we had to ask the front desk of a neighboring hotel that were able to show me a road view of the building that we recognized after driving by it. All-in-all, a very positive experience, highly recommend.

She makes it seem like there is but she doesn't pay for 90% of channels so you're stuck watching infomercials & CSPAN before bed. 2. I kept finding hairs in the shower and on the bed sheets that did not belong to us. 3. The house itself is pretty rundown. She tries to blame it on the hurricane. Some of the damage is clearly from that but many other elements of the house are just diy repairs that look patchy. 4. The food was absolutely disgusting. HUGE chunks of fat left on the ham, canned pineapple, sunny D versus orange juice, etc. 5. Colleen (the innkeeper) talks about her political beliefs. I hate to give her a bad review but it just wasn't an experience I would suggest others visiting Savannah pay $100 a night for. We stayed at the Best Western Central Inn for 2 nights prior to coming to The Confederate and let's just say I would have rather stayed at The Best Western and it was only $60/night!!

We had room 128, I forgot the name of it. But it was on the 2nd floor in the court yard area. It did have an old stale musty smell to it. You will need to carry your suitcase to your room yourself upstairs or have the older gentleman there do it. We did it ourselves. So maybe consider where your room is located. There were more rooms to this place than we thought. It's more like a small motel feel to me once we were in the courtyard. There is no Kleenex in the room or bathroom. We travel a lot and stay at a lot of hotels & b&b's and this is the 1st time I had to use toilet paper to blow my nose. Oh god, and this was the biggest issue I had. The room was in the courtyard area. There's a balcony you walk on to get to it. People with rooms around you will be walking past your room. However, the curtains on the full glass doors did NOT cover the edges. Our bed was right there when you walk in. You definitely can not change comfortably in the room, you must go to the bathroom to ensure privacy. We ended up having to hang the two robes they provided for use in the closet, and hang them from the curtain rod on the doors to cover the large gaping gaps! I also pushed the floor lamp against the curtains on the main large window to keep that gap closed. 2. The breakfast is terrible! McDonald's bfast is better. No, really. I will say that it is photo worthy. It looks decent. I'm not even sure where the bfast is made as there is a closet sized kitchen with no food being made in it, in the hallway you go through to get to courtyard. There is no smells of bacon & sausage being made in the morning. Yet we are presented with it. The sausage was dried little gross disks. The waffles were thin, not like in a couple photos we saw online, and they were DRENCHED in a canned syrup with peaches. Non-edible. The egg thing I think was a quiche or frittata. Either way, it was the worst tasting and textured thing ever. And my husbands toast was burnt bad on one side, but they cleverly put it on the plate with the burnt side facing down. We literally took one bite of everything and left most the bfast there. Holiday inn bfast is better. They say 'prepared by chefs...' yaaaa, that's a stretch to call anyone a chef plopping premade things together & serving burnt toast. 3. Not by any fault of the b&.B, but just so you know, You must park on street. Free on Sunday, must pay during the week. You can buy a parking pass from the b&b which I think was $20 for 24 hours. There may have been a 48 hour one for a few bucks less, I can't recall. Or you pay the meter on your phone. Would I ever go back to this b&b? NO would I recommend to friends & family? NO There are so many other way better places to stay in Savanna. I'm truly shocked by the 4 & 5 star reviews

Staying in the loft on the 3rd floor was perfect for my needs. There was a little outdoor sitting area that I wasn't expecting - perfect for a sunny lunch - and the bed was very comfortable. Some other reviews negatively comment on the area of Savannah and as a woman traveling alone, I felt safe at night. There are some great restaurants within walking distance - Cotton & Rye, the Vault, Tacos on Bull - and I just avoided walking through Thomas Square. No one bothered me. Reserve without hesitation. It was adorably furnished, with wi-fi and one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in while traveling. You will not get accommodations of this caliber in any of the chains downtown--and with free parking, also! The furnishings and towels are of the highest caliber. Being out of the way of downtown allows the traveler to enjoy a more local's experience as there are several walkable restaurants nearby that cater more to the local crowd. As this is a privately owned inn, the owners live on-site and are especially particular. Outside guests are generally not allowed on property-I had to get special permission to invite a friend over one evening. Guests are "never to sleep on the sofas," and you are assigned a particular check-in time. These rules, while understandable, may not work for every traveler. Also, some of the walkways and accommodations are not handicapped accessible. You will want to inquire with the owners if you have any mobility concerns. Staying at the Galloway House Inn will afford you very nice accommodations in a lovely neighborhood at a great price--offset by some particularities that might not work for your situation. I found the owners to be very open about these, so it's best to ask about them before you book. Their cancellation policies are especially rigid compared to other inns in the area. For a certain traveler, Galloway House is a lovely place to stay!
