Employees having a great time ignoring customers.

I don't think they care about improving! Look at the other reviews. My husband and I drove out of our way to go to Thompson for stacked stone and lava rock. Two employees were on their personal phones, deep in conversation, while other employees were hanging outside. Even though we walked by them a few times, nobody looked up, no hi, no help. Bizarre today the least! So many other places to choose from. We let our contractors know that Thompson is not an option for us!

Received molded tiles and not allowed to return it.

Received molded product and advices to use bleach. Our contractor said no. So brought it back. Store Manager said they are not responsible.

Thompson is very professional and has the resources to fill your every need. Gabby was beyond helpful and honestly saved my day by suggesting the exact pavers that are used on a project I'm supervising (I thought it was another paver but I was wrong, obviously, she's a complete pro and grateful for her service today).

I've been a customer of Thompson Building Materials for about 15 years. It's a great place to buy and compare prices on professional, contractor grade items. The Orange location has two parts - the "Design Center" and for lack of a better term the "yard style location". Even though the address of the design center faces Case St. - it's on the corner of Taft - about a block separates the two - at times you'll need to stop into both places to complete your transaction. The design center is homeowner/customer oriented; customer service people ask if they could help you. The yard location has a counter and is more of a contractor "pro shop" - no one is gonna ask if they can help you until you "step up" to the counter and say hello. Design center is a great place to view displays of stone and brick veneer. It is where you get prices and place your order. They have several items in stock - there is a "yard" out back to load your truck. The "yard" has more outdoor displays, including real and fake boulders, fountains, statues, BBQ islands, and a small indoor store with tools and supplies. They have block, rock, gravel, sand etc. with delivery available. It's a good place to get professional quality sealers, etc. in large quantities. Another good resource for your home improvement needs!

I had a discrepancy on an order, but Mary came to the rescue and reconciled it. I originally started my gripe with Sales Mgmt, who were very prompt in getting back to me and directing the problem to the right person. I would give a better rating but they should have got it right the first time. They have a great selection and the show room staff is very helpful. read more

I was very disappointed by the customer service. My wife, son and I went there for garden boulders and were "helped" by a woman and I wish I new her name. She was very short with us and seemed put out by having to show us the boulders outside. When we got to the boulders her attitude remained poor and she was not very helpful at all. The product seemed reasonable but because of her poor attitude and lack of customer service we decided not to buy from them. read more

Be prepared for the most ridiculous setup any company could conceive. Drive to the design center, pick out the stones you like, then drive to a completely different building down the street to pay for them, then drive back to the design center to pick up your stones. WHAT??? How would this be acceptable at any other business? Do they not have the technology to take a payment where all the actual supplies are??? Too bad for me I couldn't make it to the payment center before closing. Too bad for them they've lost a customer for life. read more

Thompson Building Materials has it all including dozens of large, full patio and pool area displays. The displays help one see a glimpse of the myriad of possibilities that natural and man-made stone can create, i.e. very useful and inspiring. A fun place to shop with helpful staff, which I highly recommend. read more

I was impressed by this place when I entered the design center. Their customer service there was wonderful and they have a beautiful design center. However, my opinion changed after we placed our order. They did not type in the correct phone number in the computer system so we were never contacted about our order status. I also called about 10 days after placing the order to confirm when our order will arrive. They gave me a date. So, 3 weeks later, on the day it was suppose to arrive, I called to find out if I can come pick up our order and found out it had been placed on HOLD since the first 3 days after placing the order. We were never notified, and why was I given a delivery date if it was placed on hold? There is really really bad communication at Thompson. We were also told that no one else is suppose to handle your order except for the sales person that took your order. If he is out sick or not working that weekend, that's too bad. What's the point of having a team of employees! So we waited another 2 weeks for the order to come in. Thompson was not apologetic or offer free shipping for the mishap. Nothing. There is way too many building materials supply companies who stand behind their service that we will not be returning to Thompson. If you are in South Orange County, go to Valley Materials or Sepulveda. You will find more competent people that can work with you. read more

The staff at this materials location is definitely not as friendly or helpful as the Design location, but then they aren't trying to get your business, at this point they already have it. The people at the counter are still nice enough and fairly helpful, depending on who you talk to. The workers in the back getting the scoops and pallets are quick and get the job done fast, they are the backbone! Pricing is great! And took hardly any time to get what we needed. Keep in mind you have to actually look at the designs and decide what you want at the Design location then order and pay for your items at this location, so that's where it got slightly confusing. And maybe because on our first trip there, the computers were down, so things were a bit amiss. However, if just getting scoops or non-design items then you can go directly to this location to get that type of material. See? It's a bit confusing, but you'll catch on. If we can, anyone can! At one point, they noticed that one of the tiles was broken and took initiative to return it and put a perfect tile. They completed the entire kitchen in less time that they had originally told us. Their price was also the most reasonable out of all of the contractors we received quotes from. They were also so flexible with the changes and additions that we made. The deal I have found on satisfaction is your sales rep. They don't work on commission and out of the let's say 10 sales reps - 3 of them know what they are doing. I have been there many times and bought a lot of stuff. I have had to go back or simply ask for a different person when I wasn't getting good information. There is a lady there that knows everything and was extremely helpful. I also found out that the guys that work in the yard - not the sales reps actually know more about the product and what they have as they touch it all day long. I really like how they set up large displays of stones, pavers, and all of their material so you can see how it looks installed. As for price - they are about standard but you can get a discount it you ask for it. Where I found the price to help was in delivery - they charge a flat fee regardless of how much you order. they will also make a couple deliveries if you cannot take everything at once and not charge more. Their system is more set up for contractors than homeowners. The people that complain on here about customer service are not used to it. But the biggest thing is who you are dealing with. read more

Just a sensational experience from start to finish. A huge quality selection of brick with an exceptionally knowledgeable staff. Jacob at the sample countered in the yard listened carefully to our needs and then offered up all the pluses and minuses of what was available.
