Our friends suggested a nightcap after dinner nearby, tempting us with the chance to check out a speakeasy. While we probably brought the average age up a bit, we loved the vibe downstairs and the eclectic inclusiveness of the crowd. Quaint little bar that has a "secret" speak easy in the basement that requires a password to enter. The speak easy resembles what you would think of as a old time prohibition style watering hole as you pass through the hidden door in the bookshelves. The places overall is a quaint and pleasant place that we would recommend and visit again. read more

This bar has a really unique atmosphere and feel to it. Love that it's not your typical bar and instead has antique furniture in grouped seating. Super fun feature is that it has a speakeasy downstairs. Unfortunately, it wasn't open for us to see when we were there but the password to get in is shown on your receipt. The drink we got, Strawberry Fields Forever, was just ok. I would have preferred it to be a little sweeter. Overall, a super neat place. I would just order something different next time. read more

Not sure how I never saw this place before? Such a great spot! Loved the decor the quiet jazz playing in the background and the great cocktails I came with a friend on the new TEXRail train and walked over (quick walk from ITC stop) had a great Manhattan and for an afternoon we felt like we went back in time. Thanks to other helpers we found out that with a password you could go downstairs to the must see speak easy however we could never locate the password. We decided we would be back and try harder next time! We enjoyed the upstairs so much we didn't try to hard! There is a hidden door and I must say it's hidden well because I never saw it. Went w my husband and friend to the downstairs speakeasy. I'm pregnant so my husband asked for my water in a wine glass so I could feel included and the bartender said they don't use this soda gun all that much so it's probably not clean and then proceeded to give me my water from said dirty soda gun... just gross :( read more

Stopped in here on a Thursday as part of a self-driven crawl of downtown Fort Worth. This was stop number 3. When I asked locals if there was any cool craft cocktail bars, they all pointed me here. I was not disappointed. It definitely has a speakeasy vibe with book pages plastered across a vaulted ceiling. The numerous bottles of spirits is prominently on display behind the bar. However, one of my favorite parts about the place is that the menu does not list what ingredients are in each individual cocktail, rather, they list the flavor profiles. The bartender is incredibly knowledgeable about cocktails and spirits in general. Craft is 100% accurate to these drinks. Of course you can get classics like an old fashioned, but if you are looking for something more esoteric (like a smoked glass) you can also get it here. read more

I've been here many times, and usually expect the service to be slow, so I'm prepared to be patient. However the other night I went, and the place was not very busy. Sat at the bar for about 20 minutes as the bartenders talked to each other, but never even acknowledged me. So unfortunately decided to leave. I went to another cocktail bar called, The Usual, and was welcomed right away by a friendly staff. I've been here a couple times and have a bad experience every time. The people are pretentious and uptight. Bartenders think they're better than everybody there. Went in today by myself to have a quick happy hour drink. I sat at the bar for 15 minutes and never got acknowledged, let alone served. In that time the bartender made 2 drinks. Two bartenders on but only one was making drinks. I understand if the other was training but like I said, no one even looked at me or talked to me. Absolutely incredible bar! They have the most delicious cocktails I have ever had by far. The Berried Alive is by far one of the best cocktails I've ever had. The True Grit and French 75 are also flawless. The ingredients and liquor are high quality and easy to drink even for the pickiest palettes. The bartenders are phenomenal and you will never get a rushed or low effort cocktail here. The bar is wonderful for cocktail hours with great deals. The ambiance is amazing on all floors. The main floor is dimly lit, casual, and comfortable with books, board games, vintage couches and furniture. The basement speakeasy requires a code, but is themed as a gangsters perfect oasis with burgundy couches and sophisticated furniture. The cigar lounge is very dimly lit with comfortable seating options, a great sound system, and a phenomenal selection of higher end whiskeys that can only be found in this high end setting. Different from your usual bar! Went out with some friends for a birthday and we had a great time. Since they are known in the speak easy for unusual drinks, it takes the bartenders awhile to make them. So expect to wait a bit before they get to you to order and then a wait for your drinks. We didn't mind at all though....the drink menu is extensive so it took us some time to choose! I loved the thin mint and the berry cheesecake ones. My friends ordered seasonal pear cocktails! This is a gem in downtown Fort Worth. As a book lover I feel at home in the cozy, cool vibe of this place. They have a great selection of signature cocktails - I had the French 75 and my friend had the Aviation. Both of them were excellent! Their signature cocktail menu is well thought out as it offers a variety of liquors and flavor profiles and will appeal to everyone. They also have good happy hour pricing. Everyone on the staff was friendly and warm. My friend and I both agreed this is one of our new favorite spots, and I definitely want to come back soon to check out the basement speakeasy. read more

What a cool business! A friend from out of town was in Fort Worth on business and introduced us to Thompson's. First, the location is excellent, right there in downtown. It's really not far from anything. The atmosphere is great. I haven't been to a cocktail lounge like this since I moved to Texas. Comfortable furniture, great decor, it just really gets you in the mood for a craft cocktail. I had the French 75, which was made perfectly and absolutely delicious. The bartender was excellent and very friendly. Again, since we didn't know of this place's existence, we didn't know much about it. Thankfully, our friend knew to get the password so we could go downstairs and grab another cocktail at the speakeasy. How cool! I will say, I was boring and had the French 75 again down there since it was so good upstairs. I'll branch out more next time and there will be a next time! read more

Went in last night around 530 and there were maybe 10 people in the whole place... took over 10 minutes to get two old fashioneds...and I was sitting at the bar!!! then they came without cherry garnish... then the next round came with cherries but no orange peel ... My husband and I walked in here looking for good cocktails and eats while waiting for a wedding in DT Fort Worth. Two stars for cool decor and clean bathrooms. Cocktail was watered down. Cheesecake was alright, but overpriced. Bartendress was just too cool to serve us. We walked in and basically got a stare from her. We sat ourselves. Drinks were ordered and she called us to the counter to grab them. We walked out and said good bye to the two bartenders-- no response. Tucked away in the heart of Downtown Fort Worth, is this jewel of a Speakeasy Bar. I adore Thompson's! I can honestly say that this is my fave bar in Fort Worth! Some background on me, I am a speakeasy bar fanatic! I genuinely love the mystery and allure of a bar hidden in plain sight. I enjoy the atmosphere, stepping back in time when their weren't tv screens plastered on every wall. I enjoy the attention to detail, cocktails crafted with care and quality ingredients, I'm all for it! I also am a sucker for egg whites shaken into my drinks and where do you suppose I find such classic cocktails? Speakeasies of course! I love love loveeee the vibe of Thompson's. To me, it's kind of like a speakeasy inside a speakeasy. From the outside, the place is advertised as a bookstore. Once you walk in, it's a bar clearly inspired by its roots, with book pages plastered across the ceilings. But hidden behind a bookcase to the left are stairs leading down to another bar, referred to as "The Rx". This part of the bar is also accessible from the outside of the building. Around the side, you'll see an old school pharmacy logo alongside a blue light. Go down the stairs and take a knock on the door, just make sure you get the password via their Facebook beforehand. You can also find the password on the bottom of your receipt when you order a drink from the upstairs bar. Downstairs, the speakeasy vibe is well kept. Tables are partitioned with sheer curtains, lending to the whole "we're all here secretly" feel. The lights are dimmed low and the cocktails definitely take center stage. The cocktail menu here is extensive. Lots of different options and something for everyone if you're willing to look. I loveeee the creativity behind each drink. I honestly wanted to freaking try everything! I finally decided on the Grapes of Wrath, and was not disappointed! The egg white was properly shaken, which gave this drink a lovely, thick, foam layer on top. The flavor reminded me of a blueberry lemon meringue pie. Love the Amarena Toschi cherry in the garnish as well. Jon got a 21st Amendment, which is pretty much an apple pie in drink form. Lol, I guess we were in the mood for pie? Either way, the drinks looked and tasted fantastic!! Great attention to detail by the bartenders. I've heard that this place can get a bit packed on weekends. The Rx is only open Friday and Saturday, so I can see it getting busy, but hasn't been too crazy every time we've went. Maybe we just get lucky, though. Can't wait to come back and sample more off their cocktail menu. read more

While the decor was absolutely lovely, we couldn't get into the speak easy even though they said it was a 10 minute wait. We stayed for about 45 minutes then decided to move along. It was disappointing. The craft drinks are nice and the servers where attentive. It was a bit pricey for not being able to see the main attraction. read more

Great place if you want to wait 25min to get acknowledged. Service here has always been horrendous. I completely understand with a full bar things can get backed up. I've been here quite a few times and always try to give the benefit of the doubt. But even when it's not they busy it still takes ages to get service. Very uptight staff. I had the Saint cocktail and it was really good. Unique, cool spot. The first floor is small so during peak time, it gets full quickly. The speakeasy upstairs was opened as soon as I was done with my drinks so it was too late to experience it. I was disappointed by the service in that I understand they're busy and drinks will take a little while but I was bothered that the bartender seemed annoyed when ordering a drink. They weren't very personable so it soured the overall experience a bit. A girl taking orders was so awesome, patient, and bubbly. read more
