I came to this location last week with my OCA Dallas peep (Ify, O.). This is a great speakeasy, and I am so glad we stopped in! Fun facts: According to some accounts, the word speakeasy came from "speak-softly shops," illegal drinking establishments in England and Ireland in the 19th century. I was checking out some bars and breweries with my husband in the area when I realized how close I was to this bar! I've been wanting to check out this speakeasy for over a year. We got there right when it opened at 4pm on a Saturday, it was perfect since nobody was there. I LOVED the ambiance and atmosphere, it was very dark and cozy, private. Picked a spot to sit when then realized that you have to order drinks at the bar, didn't expect that since in every single speakeasy I've been to I had a server. Good thing that the place was empty otherwise I'm definitely not into that. I had 2 tequila cocktails, Johnny on the Spot and the other one I can't remember. The first time we came here was when we were waiting for dinner at wishbone and flint and our table wasn't ready. It was an unexpected but nice surprise. This time we chose to enter through the street to go and have a drink whilst in the area and as it was the day time it was quiet. It still has a cool vibe and the servers were friendly. I love this Southside Speakeasy! You don't need a password to get in - and it feels really fun to 'discover' the secret door. Hubby and I met a few friends here and lucked out to find four comfy chairs right when we walked in. The interior is dark and is totally a speakeasy vibe. Obsessed! They have a list of cocktails that are fairly affordable and tasty. I ordered the Rib Old Fashioned and hubby ordered the Aztec Old Fashioned. The space though small, is divided well to provide some privacy while still allowing multiple guests to enjoy, thoughtfully laid out. The drink choices feature a lot of whiskey based drinks which is a bonus for me and their small bites are suitable to pair. The Amber Room is a super cool, "secret bar" associated with Wishbone & Flynt in the increasingly cool Southside Fort Worth area off South Main. I gotta say, this is one of the best surprises we've had in this area. Pandemics suck for many reasons. One of them is the way we have been hindered from new foodie experiences. It's a dumb thing to mention in light of the seriousness of health issues we face. But, the mental fatigue of being cooped up at home when we are accustomed to being out enjoying culture and cookery, the depression is real. So, on a lark we decided to go out seeking covid-friendly destinations. That's when we stumbled upon an abandoned bookmark in Yelp for this speakeasy that opened in Jan of 2020 and has thankfully survived. There are two ways into The Amber Room, a back door that's unmarked on Bryan Ave, and a passage that looks like kitchen access in the back of the restaurant which leads to a gold door covered in doorknobs. It feels underground. The room itself is a mixture of brick, stone, Victorian, and midcentury that results in a sort of urban/Hogwarts/upcycled coolness we couldn't get enough of. Seating is amply separate for the pandemic safety, with the exception of two sofas that were backed against each other with lattice divider between them. We wanted to try literally everything on the cocktail menu. But, we went with a Mezcal Cafe De Nuez, an espresso martini with egg whites and shaved nuts. It was tasty and SO STRONG. She had the Spicy Hummingbird, also extra strong and a citrus, Mezcal, hibiscus mixture that was balanced and delicious. The Amber Room is a rare find, strong on all axes. I loved this little gem hidden in this little spot in Fort Worth! It didn't seem to be widely known and wasn't ever very crowded, which I particularly appreciate about speakeasy-style places. The mood was solid, the lighting was perfect, and the acoustics made it easy to hear while enjoying the ambiance. We didn't have any issue with seating, but again, it wasn't terribly crowded so that worked for us. My only complaint? While the drinks tasted great and I thoroughly enjoyed them and the various flavors, they were a bit weak on the alcohol side. Put some strength in these drinks, and this would be an easy 5-star. There was a really cool feel at this spot, minus the gal staring at us after we were friendly for a bit. We always seek out speakeasy style spaces when we travel, because vibes, baby. There were lots of varied nooks whether you decide to show up with your boo or a group. As for the drinks: my Peach was a refreshing summer drink but woefully lacking any actual peach flavor. My husband tried my drink and thought the same thing. His Buddha was really good til the very end which was a little cough syrupy. I think it just needed to be mixed, but there was a large ice cube that made that more difficult. Kinda bad timing for this joint. Had several really good visits before the David Allan Covid shut things down. Like review says, good drinks, nice atmosphere, yada yada yada. Finally had a chance to go back in, looks like they might have adjusted room seating, looks different but the really big diff was the bar crew. I ordered one of the Aztec old fashioneds, which I'd have several times before. Always good, always tasted the same. The one I got this time was pretty terrible. I saw the kid behind the bar put four jolts of chocolate bitters in it, plus the syrup, and it was overwhelmed so much, chocolate was all I could taste. I had 2-3 sips on it before I set it down, and left. There were several behind the bar that night, all seemed really young, and all seemed preoccupied with talking to each other. Place didn't have many people in it, it was an off night, but previous visits usually just one bartender working. Not sure what's up, but my inexperienced two cents would be that they need to get the youngsters out from behind the bar and put in some adults who know how to make drinks. Drop a star, but it's still a nice place, maybe it just needs to get back rolling again like it was before things got shutdown. More new places are starting to open, hopefully this visit was an aberration from the usual, or hopefully they can regain some of that early bad ass place to hang out, again. read more

I have seen it pop up on yelp and had been wanting to try it. A girlfriend of mine called me for cocktails and I was IN! I felt a bit insecure walking in, but that quickly dissipated. He asked me what I liked and made some suggestions, all while making a lavender simple syrup. Then venue is small and comfortable. It has a collection of mismatched chairs and lounges. It is dark and sultry. Even the bathroom has personality. The best part, those fancy cocktails are delicious. Drinks are creative, innovative, and delicious. At a price point of ~$15 per drink that is quite reasonable for the work put in. One drink that stuck out to me was old-fashioned with a chocolate liqueur that I don't seem to remember the name to. Yet honestly, one can get almost anything off the menu and be impressed.
