Very small winery that's in Lake county; little outside of the famous Napa valley area. This winery had a lot of award winning wines & the some of the better tasting wines compared to the others in the area. Fave wines that I had tasted here ($10 tasting fee but waived if you buy 2 bottles): 2016 pinot grigio (4 stars) Very light & refreshing pineapple notes 2016 sauvignon blanc (3.5 stars) Not as a smooth finish as the pinot but still refreshing with fruity & slight citrus notes. 2013 merlot (5 stars) Very unlike any merlot I had ever tasted. This tasted more like a cab, very rich cherry & plummy flavours. This went perfectly w/ dark chocolate that I had brought along. 2014 volcanic cabernet sauvignon reserve: 3 stars Very dark beery notes but wasn't didn't have a smooth finish as the merlot did. 2008 "fire" petite Syrah port: 5 stars One of the best ports that I have ever had; very plummy & cocoa notes. This was not syrupy at all; so refreshing because most ports have that gross syrup consistently to it. 2010 "Ice" late harvest wine: 4 stars Very light honey tasting w/ apricot notes but the finish wasn't as smooth as the "fire" port.

Cool tasting room and a friendly respectful face behind the counter. I would make sure to try there Cabernet Sauvignon, heavily influenced by the volcanic soils of the sourced vineyard, smooth tannins forming and becoming as smooth as could be for their current 2013 vintage. Lastly, easy stop on the main road through lake country.

My husband and I went to California in May and made a stop at Thorn Hill and we are so glad that we did! Amy and Jack (owners) greeted us warmly. They gave us a tour of the grounds and the villas (which are stunning). The location has a lovely view and the villas and tasting room have unique details and fine craftsmanship. My husband really enjoyed admiring the work and asking questions with Amy. Now, the wine, it's to die for! Their wine has so much body, flavor, and amazing aromas! We shared a glass of sparkling with Jack and Amy on their front porch of the tasting room and enjoyed the sunset! It was delightful! I'd highly suggest the red rock cab, it is a uniquely wonderful wine! If you head out to wine country, give Thorn Hill a visit! You will not regret it!

If you want great wines around the lake this is the place. Ask for Genice, she is the best.

My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way through Lake County and were pleasantly surprised with the service and the amazing wines.

I took 6 wine bottles to our Country Club to our "Ladies who Lunch and Love Fine Wine" and I was totally embarrassed the Wine Master couldn't get the cork out in one piece. We open 6 bottles and we drank cork we every sip. So, DO NOT BUY THIS WINE because it tastes like aged vinegar and cork! I have been a member of this "Ladies who Lunch who Love Fine Wine" for 15 years and I was so humiliated. So, lesson learned. I called Mitch, the owner of Hawk & Horse and he did NOT offer any suggestions. I ordered a 2022 bottle and it had the same problem. Mitch is too cheap to sell his "fine & over priced wine" with a proper cork. Forger the 4K I spent with supporting a small business owner (only 13 acres) I will never get over the humiliation from these women who trusteed me. After calling Mitch, the owner who needs to retire. He was hostile and on speaker phone at the luncheon. He has LOST all of his ATLANTA business. We are Southern and we talk and tell it All. Thanks Mitch for telling us that the CALI way is NOT our WAY!!!!

The only thing that wasn't perfect was the weather, overcast and cloudy with some sun finally appearing toward the end. But still had some amazing views. The wines were all very good with some being standouts. The number and size of the tastings were more than acceptable. Our host Jazzlynn was personable and informative. She had nothing but positive things to say about the winery, owners, winemaker and working there--all pluses in my book as I love supporting family-run businesses who care about their employees. The drive up the mountain to get to Wild Diamonds in Lake County is nice and also provides for the great scenery while tasting in the "rooms with a view". With enough notice (48 hours) they can have charcuterie boards available for you. I thought I also heard them say you're welcome to bring your own--but don't quote me on that... verify! If you want to get away from the commercialized options in Napa and Sonoma, you won't go wrong at Wild Diamonds!
