I went on a friday afternoon, my first time here, coz i couldnt find time to go to my usual place in hell's kitchen and i was going out friday night. I should've listened to my gut and nothing else. Seems like they only had 2 ladies there, one was busy (not sure if she was the famous Arti), the other one was short and behind the counter (if anybody recognizes) who did the threading for me. She was super harsh and hurried to complete too quickly, leaving me with not one but 4 bleeding spots on and around my eyebrows. Upper lip was luckily not bleeding but hurting from excess pressure applied by the thread. I wasn't offered antiseptic, in fact i had to get it myself from behind the mirror coz the lady just ran behind the counter to count money or whatever, once she was done. This place downright sucks! cant speak for the other ladies working there, but don't go to the short one behind the counter with NO expressions! read more

After about a month after a terrible reaction I had to a Brazilian wax I received from a very popular "all natural waxing center" in brooklyn, I decided it was time for a clean up. I didn't really mind the price of the service. The only thing that was really important to me was that the place did not use any sort of hard wax and that it was clean. I stumbled upon Thread on yelp and decided to try it out. So I hopped on the train and took it down to the financial district in search of the one called Arti. And I must say this place greatly exceeded my expectations. This must have been the best Brazilian wax i have ever received! Art took her time and was careful as I was still recovering from that terrible hard wax experience. Usually when I get home after a wax there are still a few hairs left behind. There were none after this experience! Another notable thing is the amount of time it took for the hair to grow back. I usually start to feel stubble a day or two after waxing. This time the hair didn't even start to grow back until about 2 weeks later. Im glad to say its been almost a month and I literally still don't even have enough hair to be waxed. I have only had my brows threaded once, superbly and with little pain I might add, by a woman at Shobha salon in the soho area. They are a little pricey, so I decided to try Thread since I was in the area. I also opted to get my upper lip done for the first time. BIG MISTAKE. I don't know if she was supposed to clean the area first, but she didn't, and my upper lip is now covered with loads of tiny white pimples. And talk about painful! WOW! There were tears in my eyes when it was all over. I saw a spool of thread last week and almost had a panic attack! As for the brows, they were just ok. She told me to check them when she was done, but who can see that closely in a regular wall mirror? Had to pluck the strays when I got home to my magnifier. Coulda done that my damn self for free. And with a lot less pain. I did learn a very valuable lesson after visiting Thread. NEVER cheap out on something as important as your face. Now I know why Shobha was three times the price. read more

I usually get my eyebrows threaded at the Third Avenue location, but I decided to come here after getting the Brazilian wax/threading Groupon. It was my first time getting a Brazilian and boy did it hurt. Arfi was very nice though and kept reassuring me every single time I screamed and flinched. She was super friendly and kept talking to me to make sure I was okay. This location is very clean, like the Third Avenue one, and the staff is very friendly. It was a wonderful experience, albeit a painful one, but I'd certainly recommend this place to others! read more

Nicely decorated interior. Empty mid-day and I was directed towards a chair immediately. I only got eyebrows done and never really seek out other services in threading salons. My threader was very timid about taking hairs off. Her signal for being done was asking "do you want lotion?" First two times she asked, I had to ask her to go back and take more hairs out which made her kind of irritated but seriously, after the first round, my brows looked no different than when I walked in. I've been in a rush before and have walked out not being completely happy and thinking I would fix my brows at home but I wasn't this time around and really wanted to get this errand crossed off the list. Nice lady who threaded my eyebrows. I got there around 10:20am on a Saturday and there was no other customers there. She was the only person working. She was fast and efficient with my eyebrows and did a good job. She had an accent and was a little hard to understand. $8 for eyebrow threading. Eyebrows came out nice. Only thing is I had my face waxed and later realized there were burn scars by my cheek bone and the side of my lip. Adding on to that, they don't have any proper wipes to wipe your face with after the wax, the lady had put oil which can clog pores and just look really oily. The service is nice but please consider having wet wipes, or Olay daily facial wipes where you can just wet it and clean off your face. I have a event today and have burn scars on my face. I went to Thread for the first time since I bought the Groupon. $20 for a Brazilian and eyebrow threading (normally $40 and $8). I followed fellow Yelpers advice and scheduled an appointment with NC. She was great at threading- just followed my shape and got rid of the strays very nicely. Onto the Brazilian, she used wax in a little cup (therefore didn't double-dip) and made me feel very comfortable. The wax was a little too hot, so I told her to let it cool off and she did. She told me to check to see if we missed anything and was very thorough in getting the strays. Pretty painless experience with the exception of the hot wax but I she did the best she could to remedy that. Regular Brazilian is $40 and I feel bad for cheating on Maria Bonita salon in Soho, but Thread is $10 less...and a lot closer to where I work...I will think about going back again since it was a great experience. read more

I was starting to regrow my eyebrows out after getting a botched thread job by a place near where I lived. It was only a month in, and my brows looked awkward; I was dying to get them shaped while continuing to grow them out. I worked a few blocks south of Thread, read the reviews here on Yelp and decided to check them out. Atmosphere: Very clean and professional. Service: Very friendly. I told my threader what I needed done (and quite nervously too), and she did a great job shaping my transitioning eyebrows. And it was quick too, threading usually hurts more than waxing for me, but this wasn't as bad. Threading is $8, waxing is $10. I say you would have to go about every other week- depends on how fast your brows grow out. They take cash and cards, so no need to run to the bank to get your brows did. :D read more

Disappointed. My friends and I used to come here for their 50% discount to come with a friend. One of my friends ran into one of the ladies who did our brows outside of the business and she was told/encouraged to not come in groups. Surprised and offended, we decided to listen to her and stop going all together. Why promote the discount as such, if it's not wanted? Not the best tact to tell customers that...so we decided to go to NY Brows (on the same street a block or two over) and they do a better job at a better price. I really wanted to like the place and make it my norm, but it seemed a little out of etiquette to do that. read more

This was my first threading experience...after hearing and reading a lot about eyebrow threading, i wanted to try it out, but couldn't stop myself from plucking long enough to actually get it done. well, i finally decided to see if my unruly brows could be tamed by threading. my threader lady was nice and friendly, named "NC". i told her i just wanted a clean up and not to make it thinner, and she did a pretty good job with it. she had me hold my skin taught while she worked. really fast, painless. she also trimmed the long hairs down. make sure you look over your brows up close before youre done...i saw a few stray hairs around the sides and she was really nice about going back to thread em. i love the way my brows look compared to before...you think it doesn't make a huge difference but it really looks much cleaner. i plan to go back in a month! read more

I have to say the girl doing the treading was not exactly the warm and fuzzy type, a little scary actually, but the results were excellent and not much irritation. I stopped in on a whim, I've needed to get my eyebrows done and this place was open. They didn't appear to be busy but I guess it doesn't take that long to get eyebrows done. The place is clean and well maintained, the woman who did my brows (I didn't get her name, I know bad me) was very nice and quick. She trimmed, threaded and lotion end my brows in about 8mins...I was fully expecting them to look weird, but hey look great. Next time I'll put up before and afters. 8$ is what I pay at my favorite Brooklyn spot, so for FiDi this place is totally on point price wise. This place is a little pricier than my former go-to spot in midtown but since I changed jobs, I had to find a new brow lady! I love how clean and pristine this place is, despite having been open for years. They specialize and only do brows and they do it really really well. The location is also super convenient, right by the Brooklyn Bridge green line for commuters, which I definitely appreciate. Such a great spot! Pre-pandemic I used to get my eyebrows threaded near my office. Since March I've been working from home and I've been trying to find somewhere near my apartment that was as good as my old place and I think I've finally found it! I walked past Thread a few weeks ago and was impressed by how clean and professional it looked. I checked the reviews on Yelp and decided to make an appointment and I'm so glad I did! I love thread downtown. overall, they do a fast, efficient job, and my eyebrows look great afterward. they really know how to shape your brows. i've tried threading here about 3 times and it was great. ive tried waxing here and it's great too. the rooms are not cramped which is a huge plus. i had a brazilian done (this was a couple months ago) and i think it was the best ive ever gotten. waxing is always painful, but it was the least amount of pain. the girl i had was so nice and i didn't mind chatting with her, even though many times im the type of person who wants to get the service and go on with my day. she even waxed my tummy for free! (ok i know that sounds gross lol but im sure you guys have tummy hairs too!) however, the most recent time i came in, my 4th time threading, i had a shorter girl, petite, slim, who was on her cell the moment i walked in. she was distracted and a little impersonal. she did my brows, and they were still better than any of the other salons ive been to (thank gd it seems thread only employs qualified people), but it wasn't the best one ive had at thread. she asked if i wanted lotion, i asked her to cut my brows a bit more with the scissors, and the instant she was done with me she sat back on the bench and took out her phone. maybe she forgot about the lotion, which is fine cuz i couldve asked her for it, but i was bummed out by my experience with her. darn if i only got her name.. but regardless of that (mb the girl had an off day), thread is definitely worth checking out, esp with these prices. don't forget to grab a card- 10 visits and u get a free brow thread i believe read more

Update per my previous review: I hate to say this as I was really happy with the wax on day 1, however by day 2 I was in so much pain! Either the wax was too hot, or my skin is more sensitive than I realized... my skin was swollen for several days and I even experienced some peeling from the burn! Unfortunately the hair also grew back much faster than normal - after only a week it was very noticeable. I would like to give it another change, but I have a vacation coming up and don't want to risk it. :( Maybe next time read more

Thread is clean, friendly, and as pain-free as it gets. I don't think one could go wrong with any girl at this place. But if you have to have a name, I suggest you ask for N.C. if you're going early in the week, and for Sammy if you're going later in the week. I've been here twice and will def be back. I've been both after work and on a Saturday and both times didn't have to wait. They take walk-ins, even for Brazilian wax. Eyebrows: perfection. I am very hesitant to let anyone touch my eyebrows and usually do them myself but lately I haven't had the time to maintain as I normally do, and my fallback is always threading. Granted that I have a high tolerance for pain, I do feel like it's one of the better threading salons I've been to vs a few places in NJ and NYC I've been to - my favorite above all. Brazilian wax: I've been getting waxed for several years and she does a good job. Clean, thorough, etc., also quick and respectful. As I said, I have a high tolerance for pain and considering I've been only waxing for over 10 years, I'm used to getting brazilians in general. There are other places I've been to that I didn't have as good of experiences but I would recommend this place to first timers. Lastly: they do take credit cards and tips on card but there's a small service charge for this. Other than that, I also think the price for a Brazilian is cheap for Manhattan. read more

I've waited a couple of days before positing this. Since I'm new to the city, I found this place on Yelp since it was close to my university and I had time to kill. I had a good experience overall- I'm not a fan of threading but they do a wonderful job in making sure that it doesn't hurt. The face wax was also great. I have extremely sensitive skin and easily break-out in pimples. Although I did break out, it wasn't as bad as my previous experiences. read more

I've been going here for about 2 years. I was very faithful to Neela. She always did a great job, very kind, and clean; no double dipping. I would highly recommend her. I am sad that I will no longer be going to this location because they have increased their price to $15 for an underarm wax, compared to other locations nearby charging anywhere from $10-12. They also offer free eyebrow threading on your 7th visit, however, they will not accommodate for any other wax/thread. read more

I had passed Thread a couple of times but the price of eyebrows being $8 put me off a little bit being that there are many other places that are cheaper. The Brazilian waxes are quick and easy but not rushed or lacking attention to detail. Come in, drop ur drawers and hop up on that table, girl! They powder you, wax you, oil you, then top it all off with a hot towel. Ooooh, Ahhhh, soothing. Easy peasy! In case you were wondering: -they use soft wax (the kind that gets pulled off with cloth strips) -NO DOUBLE DIPS (she put some wax in a little plastic dixie cup then dipped from there, not the hot pot) -$40...seriously, a great price. I went in today for a last minute eyebrow threading & lip waxing, and a brazilian bikini wax, before I depart tomorrow on a glorious roadtrip with my girlfriends. Groupon had a sweet deal for $20 for the eyebrows and the vag bits, so I thought, hells yes, the heavens want me to be affordably hairless for this trip. Right, moving on. So the first thing I like about this place is that when I called to add the lip waxing to my appointment, I also asked that we could do the face stuff before the brazilian (so the redness on my shaina punim would calm down before I had to be seen in public again)--and they tell me that's what they always do. +1 my friends! It's the little things, really. So, said facial services go exceedingly well (definitely what she said). Quick, reasonably pain-free, well-executed. Then we go into the back for some one-on-one time with my lady bits. This was really the only part I had complaints about. I feel like the girl who did my wax wasn't experienced enough to know when to tell me to exhale, when to press on my skin firmly, where to hold her hands, etc. It just didn't feel as pain-free and amazing as it should (ie., at the hands of Lilli at Bela Brazil). Also, they don't have a full burner of wax--or at least they didn't today--so she was working out of these dinky little cups of wax. This was stupid for several reasons: 1, she didn't have enough hands to hold the cup, hold the stick, and hold my legs; and 2, it meant she was kind of cheap with the wax and frequently didn't use as much as she should have. Also, it hurt. Kind of a lot. And, one more minor thing, she didn't clear off my happy trail all the way up to my belly button--it just kind of stops midway. Awkward! Anyway, overall it was decent, and awesomely priced, but I don't think I'll betray Lilli again--she will always be number one in my (and my vajangle's) hearts. read more
