Went here for a laser hair removal. As someone that has received a ton of laser hair removal before, I can guarantee you that I know what I am talking about. It was a last minute appointment for me and I don't have a lot in my southern area due to all the previous sessions I had at other places. This is just a touch up after 10 years. So I didn't shave because it was last minute and didn't have time (pretty normal at most places to touch you up if you didn't), as you know we have to shave. So I asked my laser tech, she said you don't need to because this way she knows where it is. Big mistake trusting her that maybe she knew a new hack (?). It's been 2 weeks and nothing has happened except that she probably burned me (read online why you need to shave). I have never ever had hyper pigmentation but I was covered in red dots that are now gray. I'm pretty fair skin but I am a POC and it's crazy because I've always done the higher settings for any laser, whether it is IPL or hair removal. I don't know what the tech did. All the areas that I have hyperpigermentation or the pink/red burns are on areas I didn't have any hair. Then we hit the areas that do, she never shaved so it hurt extra bad and of course it doesn't hit the follicles, burnt, and I still have hair..... And I will say as someone that is from the 2nd densest big city after NYC, this was 5x what it cost back home. This is crazy, not only is it more expensive, it was done incorrectly, somehow I manage to get burned and none of the hair follicles were killed. It's upsetting that this store is operating and I TIPPED THEM. Never in my life had I ever have to tip anyone for laser and they ask for it here. SKIP AT ALL COST. TLDR: I'm a laser vet, said I didn't need to shave (quick google says they are wrong), something nothing worked/ineffective, I got burned, I have hyperpigmentation which has never happened, 5x other places in price, and they ask for tip (mildly unorthodox.. This was one of the worst wax experiences of my life and I've been waxing for years. I got an upper lip and eyebrow wax done. I explicitly asked for a light clean up. The person doing it was so rough and was putting very thick wax on. She wasn't strategic with how she was doing it. She just clumped it on and took it off. Not thoughtful and no attention to detail. She ended up taking too much off one side and my eyebrows were uneven. When I said that - she literally told me there was nothing that she could do because I chose to wax instead of thread. She said waxing is always uneven and because it was my decision to wax instead of thread that this was just the situation. That to me is absurd - I've been waxing for years and no one else has ever justified uneven work by saying you got a wax, so just deal with it. The women were rude and didn't acknowledge the issue. They told me they could continue to take more off...which I did not want to do. This was the worst wax experience and I don't suggest anyone come here. read more

I finally got serviced after an eyebrow specialist started on a woman who was seated waiting in one of the chairs, and I spoke up. I usually go to Unique Threading Salon on 6th avenue. As I was in the Union Square area for other matters, I thought I'd save myself a trip and go here. Why here? Because of the good reviews and images. I didn't give enough consideration to the fact that many of the gorgeous before and afters were not only of brow threading but the extra service of tinting. Perhaps if I'd also gotten my brows tinted, I might've had better results. I'll never know because I will not be returning to Brows Zone. There's a sign on the door that says $9 for a brow threading. Inside, there's another sign that says the same. I mentioned to the lady that just wanted my brows cleaned up and that I want to keep them as full as possible. She seemed to be doing a lot but I reassured myself by thinking of the photos of brows that came out well here. When it came time to pay, I take my wallet out and she says, "ten dollars." Okay. I was in a great mood. Signs say $9 but here ya go. Since she gave herself an extra dollar, I just gave her one additional dollar instead of the $4-$5 tip I usually give for my brows. Decided that that would be my first and last visit to Brows Zone and went on my merry way. To add insult to injury, I developed a lil red rash (which is fortunately fading but can still be seen in my pic). Ugh, this is what I get for cheating on Unique, lol. Dismal. UPDATE: The business owner, Dilshad, was kind enough to reply to my review. She mentioned that my brow threader assumed that I may have seen the "note" as it's "visible as it is in large red fonts...." Among the items on the counter, I saw no such "note." The $1 was worth mentioning as the prices (unlike the note) were clearly displayed. Covid surcharges are for the greater good and, especially if clearly displayed, of course I do not mind paying. Apparently, Dilshad and I both need our eyes checked. Dilshad clung to my comments about the dollar but she made no mention of the PHOTO attached to my review where you can clearly see (unlike the note, lol) the poor job done to my brows. She also made no mention of the RASH that developed as a result of my visit to her establishment. Dilshad, thank you for your reply! I absolutely love Yasmeen at Brow Zone. Always excellent, impeccable service from her. She is polite, kind, runs on time, and she listens to my concerns with great bedside manner. I have been doing Brazilian waxing, eyebrow and lip threading, lash tint/curl, and microdermabrasion, extractions and gold facials with her for the past few years. Since I have been seeing Yasmeen at Brow Zone, I have not had any pimples or breakouts and I have had a lifetime of acne. Everyone says I look ten years younger since I have been seeing her as well. Also, I have very short blond lashes and she makes them look full, dark, and long. I do not get ingrowns from her waxes. They are completely COVID compliant. I've been going to this place for nearly ten years for eyebrow threading. I love the way they shape my eyebrows. I was used to the up-sell of "and upper lip?" when I said I only wanted my eyebrows done, and always politely declined. Recently, though, they've been commenting that I would be a "great candidate for laser hair removal," and pointing to my chin and neck area. I am very self conscious about this hair, I have PCOS and usually pluck it myself. I hadn't been back in months because of the laser hair removal comment, and today before going I made sure to tweeze in hopes that I could just get my eyebrows done in peace. The woman was almost finished shaping my brows when she said, "Have you been here before?" I said yes. "You could get laser on your whole neck area, we could do a patch test, make an appointment, it would make your life so much easier." Excuse me. I understand you want to make money but pointing out hair on my body and suggesting it be removed is rude and uncalled for and makes people feel bad about themselves. How do you know I want this removed? Eyebrows are a $9 service. Laser hair removal for face is $140, I looked at the chart. It made me uncomfortable and embarrassed. That may be the way to shame some people into spending hundreds of dollars, but I'm not one of them. I had my temperature checked, signed in with my name, hand sanitizer was given, chair was wiped down with rubbing alcohol before and after, and all the ladies have masks and gloves. She spent twice as long on the indian woman next to me than on my brows. (Needless to say, I'm not Indian.) Unfortunately, that meant that the line was getting longer behind me. The results were rushed and painful. In fact, she refused to give me the wax I asked for on my lip. Her excuse was that she can be more precise with threading but (1) she left hairs on my lip that I had to deal with back home, and (2) she obviously wanted to get me out the door and didn't want to have to waste time on wax. If the results were worth it, I might have excused the terrible experience, but my eyebrows are way too thin and uneven on either side. Further, she discolored my skin and almost made me bleed because of how much she was rushing. Please note that I am specifically reviewing the older woman in the business. I told her I was trying to grow my brows and I didn't want her to take off too much hair. She listened. She told me what she was going to do. She was gentle - as much as one can be w threading - and careful. She took her time. She was meticulous. I did my whole face for $31. I was worried to wax nose hairs cuz I don't find wax to be clean but she said they don't double dip. She cleaned my face w alcohol before and after And used aloe gel after and gave me a face massage. I've been going to this place for years and can't believe I haven't thrown them some internet love yet. In a past life I was Bert from Sesame Street so I try to get my eyebrows threaded every 2-3 weeks, and the ladies at Brows Zone all but take a chainsaw to them with the finest of precision. I've been extremely pleased with every experience I've had here for something like 5 years, which is downright miraculous. Two other great things: 1. It's not uncomfortable to go here if you're a guy. None of the staff giggle or stare or do anything untoward, which is way better than what I can say about other places I've encountered. 2. One time, at their old location on 14th Street, I was getting my eyebrows done when this dude stepped in off the sidewalk to scream "faggot" at me in this very small store front. What could have been an uncomfortable interaction was completely diffused when every woman working turned to him, cursed him out on that spot, and threatened to f*** him up if he didn't get out pronto. This is my go to threading station by school. Overall they do a great job at eyebrow threading. This is the only service I have gotten done here so I can't speak to their other services. Nisha does a fantastic job and I try to go on days when she is working. She takes her time with my brows and makes sure my brows are shaped the way I want. They also always offer to fill in your eyebrows with product after you're done. They do tend to push you to buy the product but they're still happy to fill them in for you anyway, even if you don't choose to purchase it.
