I came here for a Brazilian wax with Bindu based on all the great recommendations that she had. I have been doing waxing for about 17 years and have been through it all... the bad, the good, the awesome and the absolutely worst experience ever. So here is my review - her technique is extremely efficient and she has been doing it for a while. Not painful (comparatively) and she doesn't drag the process out like some other people. When I say efficient what I mean is how much cleaning with tweezers you have to do afterwards, how much you didn't get the first time around. Her technique is so efficient that she doesn't have to go over the same area more than once and takes off a large enough area so that you don't keep getting hair ripped out over and over and over.... Those that know what I am talking about will greatly appreciate this! She is one of the fastest waxes I've had - was in and out in about 20 mins and even had time to tag on an underarm wax. She chats up with you while she's doing it and its over before you know! I've been going to my previous lady for about 5 years but since switching jobs its not convenient for me to get there- but Thread is and Bindu is my new go to chick! read more

I've been going to Nagma to get my eyebrows threaded for almost a year now, and she is still fantastic. A few great things about her: First of all, she's meticulous. She had me look in the mirror after she was done, and I said, "Wow! Looks great!" She looked more carefully and said, "Wait a minute. I just want to fix one little thing..." And she went back and did a little more. "There," she said, pleased with the results. She doesn't try to get you in and out the door as fast as possible. She cares! Secondly, she makes sure she knows what you want, and communicates with her clients well. She asked about how thick or thin I wanted my eyebrows to be, and made sure I left happy. Tried this place using the Groupon discount ($20 for eyebrow threading and braz. waxing). That price is crazy, right? Eyebrows here are normally $8 and the waxing is at $40 right now, still pretty inexpensive. This place is CLEAN! I did not expect to see such a nice place, since most threading places are dim with old beat up chairs. This place reminded me of a spa - brightly lit and chill. The threading itself was awesome. I told Chima (sp?) to clean up the brows and to not make them thin. She did everything I asked and somehow made my brows look fuller. She didn't jack up the shape of my brows either. If anything, she made them more even. I gave it one less star for the braz. waxing. There was nothing terribly wrong, but I'll stick to my normal place. The wax here was on the warm side (I prefer hotter so it can ease the pain!) and only one girl was working on me, so it was slower than what I am used to. Slower being about 15 minutes... still pretty quick by most standards. Also, there were no magazines in the room to occupy my attention. I would definitely come again for the threading. read more

This place is a small hole in the wall treasure. I've been coming here for over eight years. I always get serviced by my favorite esthetician Arti. My eyebrows always come out great, I also wax my lips and even though the process is painful, it's done quickly. The Brazilian wax is also on point. I love that the place is always immaculate clean. Love that they do not double dip onto the wax and that they get rid of the strips right away in front of you. If you want to tip and not incur a $1 surcharge on your credit/debit card bring in cash. Thread is clean, friendly, reasonably priced, and has a great decor. Loves it!!! I used to hit up the Murray Hill location when I worked in Midtown but I prefer the Downtown location since they're closer to home. I go to Thread every 2 weeks to clean up my brows. They do an excellent job considering how well they work with my thin, arch-less eyebrows. I've also had a Brazilian ($40!!!) there and that was a nice job as well. My fave "threaders" are Aarti and Nagma (also does waxing). Another great thing about Thread is that they give you threading cards (like those breakfast/lunch cards given by eateries) and the seventh eyebrow threading is Free 99! Also when you fill out surveys through their Web site, they e-mail you coupons for a free eyebrow threading. Thread is worth checking out. read more

Excellent service at super cheap prices. I had the brow threading done previously and got my upper lip threaded today. It was less than $7 both times. Both times, with different workers, the service was immediate, friendly and knowledgeable. The threading was done incredibly quickly and by a person who has clearly threaded hundreds of people already. Less painful than usual, over quickly and excellently done. The shop itself is very clean and the wait is always almost non-existent. What more can you ask for? Run, don't walk, here and get your threading done! read more

I have to say, I am sad that my first review on here is going to be negative. First, the good - My eyebrow threading was excellent. It was face and they turned out beautifully The bad - I had a groupon for eyebrows and a brazilian. I have been getting waxed for over 6 years. I know it's not ever going to be painless, and I am used to it now. But this was by far the worst brazilian i'd ever had. The girl clearly didn't have enough experience. She didn't hold the skin taunt, so she'd have to rewax an area several times. I left red and painful, and now I've noticed a rash, ingrowns and lots of stray hairs. I won't be going back. read more

So, my eyebrows were unruly, thick, and occasionally got some hairs in the middle. I would pluck any obvious stray hairs, but after a while, it's just too much! So, I started looking into getting my eyebrows waxed, but I have such sensitive skin and decided against it. Then I heard about eyebrow threading from a friend (who has beautiful brows). So, I Googled places close to my work and found Thread on Nassau Street. I came to the brightly lit, extremely clean and modern looking salon. It was very hip and trendy looking! Even though it was lunchtime (Wednesday), there was no waiting. I was immediately greeted and asked what I needed done. I told her eyebrows threaded and she led me straight over to the chair. The techs name was Sara. I read other reviews saying that some of the techs aren't friendly, but this was not at all the case with Sara. She was warm and friendly and listened to me as I instructed how I wanted my eyebrows done (just clean them up and shape them a bit - do not make them thin!). I reclined back and was instructed how I need to hold my hands to make the skin tight. I was really nervous that it was going to hurt badly. Although it wasn't painless, it didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would! The best I can describe is a scraping sensation. The most sensitive parts of the under eyelid hurt a little bit, but nothing I couldn't handle (and I'm NOT pain tolerant!) Even though my brows needed serious cleanup and this was the first time, she finished super quickly! At most it took 5 minutes! After she finished each brow, she brought over a little mirror to show me how it looked, and did some additional cleanup afterwards. And that's it! Done! My brows finally look fab! She offered me some lotion to put on my skin afterwards, but I declined as I tend to break out with certain lotions. The area that got threaded remained red for about an hour afterwards, but it was quite cold out and that doesn't help with skin redness. But, it looked wonderful after that hour! I got one of those little cards where each time you come in, it gets stamped and you get a free threading for your 7th visit! Excellent perk! But, the best part of all? Only $8!!! I find that very reasonable, especially for Manhattan. I will be back! read more

I am getting so sick of this place. I stumbled across it when I moved to NYC and because they do the rewards cards (every 7th free) I stuck with it. Now, because I'd been too lazy to find a new one, I've been through about 5 cards and am just so over it. They are SO RUDE. I have been going there almost 3 years now and NO ONE has EVER been friendly, not even borderline courteous. They're snobby, rude, grunt and point, hardly ever smile and don't bother to talk. This place is nice, clean, and no wait, so those are the big plusses. Now the negative. I decided based on Yelp reviews and a walk-by to go in for a facial. They had me lay down in the room while the tech got prepared, which included lighting some votive candles (one of which promptly went out, but it was obviously for show anyway), and plugging and unplugging the steam machine. You know what? No other clients and the machine doesn't work right? Move me to a different room. But no. Then the lights go out, and the treatment starts. I should have stopped her when she dripped goop on my closed eyes twice, but no. I did stop her when she vigorously rubbed goop INTO my nostril and I couldn't breathe, but let her continue. I should have stopped her when she couldn't tell if the steamer was working, and asking me over and over, instead of spot testing it on her arm (which is what they do every other time I've had a facial). The final straw was when she rubbed the exfoliant directly into my eyes, while closed, but with such force and thumb pushing, that she got it into both my eyes. Most monkeys know not to get harsh scrubby things in or near your eyes - it says so on all the packaging with red eyed bunnies and lack of PETA endorsements on the label. I stopped her, and she offered me a paper towel. I said I needed to wash out my eyes, so she pointed to the bathroom down the hall. Mind you, I CAN'T OPEN MY EYES and I'm in my bra. I squint, blink my way to the sink, and spend 10 minutes hunched over it, trying to wash out the grains of sand on my cornea. She comes in and asks if it's better now, and looks, telling me it was in there, but it's not anymore, and that I shouldn't have opened my eyes. I DIDN'T open them! This blaming the blinded woman thing is not earning my love. I go back in and she decides that the best thing to do is STEAM MY EYE. I stop her, and have her just finish up whatever is still on me, and end up with exfoliant grit all over my ears, neck and face. Every time I go to try and get the sand out of my mouth and eyes, she admonishes me. At the end of all this, I go back in the bathroom to run more water into my eye, and she offers to have someone go get eyedrops from CVS, and a home cure of honey. She also tells me "It's better now, it only itches now, right?". All I can think is I want to get out and go home to my eyedrops and shower. As I sit here typing this, I am still rolling little bits of grit out of my eye and off my tongue. I would have given more stars for the set up and design of the space, but this woman's carelessness and incompetence compounded by her lack of contrition just pissed me off. I can go plenty of other places where the staff can manage not to blind their clients. read more

I recently used a Groupon coupon (it was an awesome deal!) to get my eyebrows threaded and for a Brazilian wax. It was my first time getting the down-under waxed but the women there are so incredibly sweet and I felt very comfortable. The back rooms were set up very privately and comfortably. It's incredibly sanitary... I've visited a few times prior to my Groupon visit and it's always been very very clean, nice music playing and very welcoming employees. I'll now go out of my way just to visit Thread - it's a wonderful experience at a great price and I don't think i'll ever wax my eyebrows again! read more

I went here for the first time on Saturday, and was very impressed. The salon is spotless, which is really important to me. I normally get my eyebrows waxed at a place on 125th street, and I was impressed that to get your eyebrows done at Thread only cost a few dollars more and the service is so much better. ** I was especially impressed by the fact that instead of double-dipping into a giant jar of wax, the person who worked on me (Aarti) took out a small portion of the wax into an individual container that she then used on me. For a germaphobe, this was a HUGE deal. Overall, brows look great... Very happy. This is by far one of my favorite places for hair removal. Their expertise is in eyebrow threading (I have never had my upper lip done so can't attest to that). The staff is very accommodating, cordial and professional. I can also say their waxing services are phenomenal. I've had full leg and Brazilian done. My gripe though is that their wax is like extra extra sticky, stickier than what I am used to, so I stick to EVERYTHING! I also feel they are fairly priced, quick and as painless as possible (I mean, let's face it: it's never "painless"). They could do a better job of having warm cloths for post-wax. EDIT: I wrote the following review the day after going to Thread. This was clearly not enough time. While I still think the place was clean and the service was friendly, I was disappointed to find that instead of pulling the hair out by the roots, it seem this waxing only tore my hair. This means that LESS THAN A WEEK after my waxing, hair has already started to grow back! Those are the kind of results I get from shaving, which is painless! I was shocked and disappointed by how quickly I lost my smoothness. My original appointment was on Wednesday. By Monday or Tuesday, I was already growing back prickly little hairs everywhere. Pretty disappointed by this. I was originally planning on returning, but at the cost they charge for the results I got, I don't know if I will come back. ~~~~ ORIGINAL: I went here for my first ever professional brazilian. I went here because I had an excellent deal on groupon ($19 compared to their usual price of $40). Very clean space, clean bathroom, clean private waxing room. Just FYI, they have the wax in warmers all set up, so you don't get your own "personal pot." Bindu was very efficient and friendly. I was a little nervous about paying someone to torture me by ripping out my pubic hair, but the whole thing was done in about 10 minutes. Bottoms off. Gloves on. Generous amount of baby powder beforehand. The wax is hot and I think they used clothe strips, though I was so shocked by the vigorous speed and efficiency of it I couldn't really tell you. Bindu did tell me that if I needed a break we could take one, and about half-way through I had to beg for mercy. Her idea of a "break" was re-waxing little areas where hair was still left. Not quite my idea of a "break." Nevertheless, I appreciated the fact that she didn't let me dwell on the pain for too long. Once she was done, she cleaned me up, baby oil was applied, and that was that. She did tell me that since it was my first time she wasn't going to remove all the little baby hairs, so I wasn't quite as smooth as I was hoping for. I did appreciate her talking to me to distract and not minding my flinching out of position and yelling out "F---!" at one point. Happy note: They have caramels at the desk! They also have disposable paper/cloth panties that you can wear inside of your underwear afterwards if you don't want oil/residual whatever to get on your underwear. I'd been meaning to try threading for a while and having read all the reviews of both their threading and waxing services, I decided Thread would be a good place to check out. Sam (I think short for Saima) did my threading and I was incredibly pleased with the results. It hurt a little more than I thought it would, probably because it was my first time, but it's so much less irritating to sensitive facial skin than waxing. I am officially a convert! Of course, aside from your face there aren't many other areas with small enough hair coverage for threading so the wax was still necessary. Bindu is a serious professional with her wax. She worked quickly and confidently. Their prices seemed very reasonable to me. My only complaint is the layout and overall design of the place. It's not a particularly nice/relaxing atmosphere as you would hope for at a salon. But the staff clearly knows what they're doing here and since their loyalty card is good across all 3 locations, I can shop around and see which one I like best. I decided to try Thread b/c of the groupon deal & the fact that it's in FiDi, where I live. Contrary to what other yelpers might have experienced, the service I received here was pretty good. They were really careful w/ the threading...did my eyebrows well and listened to my feedback. They were also gentle w/ the upper lip & my skin didn't get bright red afterwards. They use gloves and are pretty clean about the waxing (can't recall if they double-dip...), and finished by plucking the stubborn hairs. read more

How do you recover from a day from hell? I usually numb the pain with a wax and Thread was nearby to service my needs. To my surprise the wax was painless, quick and not to mention cost efficient (Philadelphia salons, please take note). The technicians are all seemingly friendly however there does appear to be a bit of a language barrier, nothing too major though. I just love Groupon! I took a trip up to NY to use two Groupons I purchase. This being the first stop in the city. My eyebrows were threaded with precision! The price is $8.00 (which I did not pay - thanks Groupon!). I normally pay $6.00 - I don't live in the area though so I'm not sure what the "normal" rate is for NY. I was then taken to the back to have a full on brazilian. I was powdered first then all those hairs removed then had oil slathered on me. It was as wonderful of an experience - having hot wax slathered on you and your pubes pulled out by the roots - as one could have. My Groupon was only $20.00 for both!! SCORE!!! read more

This is the first threading salon I've gone to that's both HIP and CLEAN. No wait, inexpensive and the girls are really nice & personable! I'm used to walking in and having someone with a mouthful of thread point to a chair and brutally destroy my face with no enthusiasm unless her neighbor has something to say in a language other than my own. I am surprised by all the negative reviews. The prices here are fair and the space is clean. My eyebrows always come great. Not sure who is being so "rude" that it seems to be a complaint - no one is ever rude to me. They do not kiss your *** or anything but if you're that much of a prima donna that you consider anything less "rude" you should go someplace that overcharges you. Also I tried eyelash extensions for the first time here because they were cheap. It turns out it is cheap because they use the clumps not the single extensions. But they came out looking good. I found this place off yelp and i'm so glad i did! I'm very particular about my eyebrows and Neelam (hope I didnt spell that wrong) was very careful with them, making sure to stop every so often to get feedback from me. I was very impressed with the final result and will be making it my go-to for brows and brazilians. First time using honey wax, I got my brazilian done by Bindu and it was as close to painless as I've ever come! She was very quick and so nice. I usually get my brazilian in Newark, NJ but I will be making the trip every month to Thread now for my needs. Updated Review: Visited this location again last week and had a most unpleasant brazilian experience with Sita. A waxing technique that I've come to expect is that pressure is applied to the waxed area immediately after removing the cloth strip to help relieve the pain and make the skin less sensitive. Sita did not seem to know any of this and just stripped away a bit recklessly so of course it hurt like hell. She ended up leaving so much hair behind as well that the fact that I paid money for this a bit of a joke to be honest. When I asked what days Bindu worked, she took that as some personal attack and asked me mid wax if I didn't like her and tried to claim that her technique is identical to that of the other ladies that work there. Talk about a sticky situation. She did my brows as well, and with a bit of direction was able to get them how I like them. If I go back, I'll make sure (1)it's on the days when I can get somebody who actually knows what they are doing (2) to avoid getting any services with Sita. read more

It's been a while since I've been to Thread NYC. After my first and disappointing experience there, I was reluctant to go back. However I decided not to judge the business as a whole so I decided to go back today. I requested Bindu and Arti as Sadia the manager suggested. To make sure one was there, I called ahead of time, spoke to Bindu and told her I was coming. Even after arriving much later than I initially planned cause of work, Bindu was still nice and welcoming. She led me to the waxing room and began her work. It could be an oxymoron to put pleasant and Brazilian wax in the same sentence but there's no other way I can describe what happened tonight. I had a very pleasant Brazilian wax! Bindu was funny, sweet and very attentive. She checked in with me frequently about the wax temperature, the pain and if I had any discomfort at all. The temperature of the wax was perfect, the pain was surprisingly minimal and I had no discomfort. I fully expected to be in tears cause it's been while since I had a wax but I wasn't. Bindu did a great job and her warm personality was the cherry on top. I'm already looking forward to my next wax, which I will definitely be getting from Bindu from now on. She threads eyebrows beautifully and is talented at getting the shape just right. I'm a big chicken with brazilians but Aarti was very gentle and made it as painless as possible! I USED to LOVE this place. I first visited with a groupon and LOVED it. The space was clean and bright, everyone was friendly and accommodating and their prices are not bad at all. I loved it so much that I work on the upper west side and would trek it there, but in the last couple of months they have really fallen off the wagon. First it started with me getting there an hour and 1/2 before they closed only to find the store shut down TIGHT. Then it was the couple of times I came there to find everyone packing up and leaving, they still serviced me but the atmosphere was anything but warm and friendly. Keep in mind their times never changed on their website or door so its not like I was coming in 15 min before closing time. The two final straws where when a couple of the workers openly talked about this customer who they felt had not given and adequate tip ( and I saw the tip and the service and it was fair) and a lack luster waxing job. All of these things have added up to me not only writing this review but me deciding to NEVER come back to this place. read more
