I visited Three Degrees for the first time, but I've been a client of Kei's for about two years. It's fantastic to see him open his own shop. The shop is stylish, clean, and very comfortable. My experience was perfect from start to finish. Kei greeted me and we caught up for a few minutes. I received a shampoo and rinse, which is always an enjoyable, relaxing experience. Kei then went to work on my hair. His attention to detail and methodical approach is always appreciated. My haircut looks flawless and immediately gave me a confidence boost. Kei's team is also fabulous. I would feel very comfortable in any of their hands. You can tell that his stylists are all well-trained and run a tight ship. Take it from me: I have been to all of the most expensive salons in the city. I've got particular, curly hair, and depending on who touches it it can look ravishing...or terrible. I am also not a hyperbolic person, but when I find something perfect, I rave about it. Truly the best salon experience you'll ever have is at Three Degrees Salon. Let me explain: the interior has a distinctly chic, laid back east village vibe, the products are very high end, and my stylist, Megumu, truly has the touch. Never in my life have I had a better cut. And I've been to all of the speciality curly hair salons, and dropped $300 on a cut. Not worth it. Megumu is reasonably priced and so damn talented. Best Haircut EVER thanks to Saeko!! I was able to make an appointment for the next day, so wait times aren't an issue. The atmosphere is wonderful and all of the hairdressers seemed great. I will most definitely be going back for Saeko though! She pampered me and gave me my new favorite haircut I've ever had. There was no product sales pressure and the price was perfectly reasonable for New York City. Other places I looked at were $130-$200 just for a cut whereas this was $80 with washing, styling, product, etc. highly recommend this place and will be going back. read more

This place is great for cut or color BUT if you are coming for Japanese straight hair perm, I bet you can find a better option. I've visited here 3 times and loved the experience so even though this was my first time booking straight perm- I gave my stylist my full trust. My original appointment was 12:30. Arrived on time while the stylist was still with the client. I didn't mind waiting and it's something that happens quite often in salons so wasn't bothered at all. It was little after 1pm when I was sat. Originally, I wanted to get my bangs straighten but the price for just the bangs were $150. After discussing with the stylist, I thought it would be better to get all my roots done. It started pretty smoothly and since I've been straightening my hair for over 10years, I knew what to expect. During the process, I realized while the solution was applied, the white cream changed to brown. I asked this stylist what's happening and they replied as "I don't know". It has never happened to me and the answer was quite ambiguous. Later did they say there can be slightly a discoloration. It was a bit odd since I'm not bleaching my hair but I still had trusted them. Throughout the progress, my bangs were tied up and was never touched. I asked when my bangs would be straighten but the stylist said they would do once the hair is done. After the whole iron and washing was done, they untied my bangs and said that's it. How is it done when you have a straight head with a curvy bangs?? The stylist said they didn't do it for a "natural" look. I addressed to the stylist that the reason I'm doing this is that I don't have time to do my hair every morning before work and would like it done. I mean, the whole point of me coming here was to get my bangs straight and that's the ONLY thing that wasn't done. They told me to just blow-dry it and it'll be good LOL. That blow dry disappears as soon as I'm on the treadmill. I still requested the service and the stylist mentioned that they don't have time today and he can't do it. They turned cold. I paid $400 including tip and had to come 10:00am from Brooklyn on my next days off to get my bangs done. Wasn't really welcomed and I wasn't quite happy with that too. Somehow my roots feel stiff and I wonder the browning was because it was burnt. read more

Ritsuko saved my hair. When I first moved to New York, I thought I would try to save money by going to a cheap hair salon. Huge mistake--I came out looking like a man. Then I met Ritsuko, and since then I've been able to sport the exact hairstyles I've always wanted. (Which, by the way, are not easy feats for a hairdresser considering I have an asymmetrical pixie cut with thick silver highlights on black hair.) I originally found her at Hair Kuwayama before I transferred to Three Degrees Salon for her. I got a cut from Ritsuko + came back for a balayage from Megumu and had a great experience both times! Both stylists were extremely knowledgeable about how to cut and color my fine, thin, black Asian hair in a flattering and stylish way. They were calm and patient the entire time, and I felt very comfortable for both appointments. We kept our masks on the entire time, they took my temperature at the door, and there was hand sanitizer and a bathroom available. Will definitely be coming back. :) read more

I feel awful leaving a bad review, but I'm in tears over my ruined hair. I asked for a trim and some light layers. But my hair has been completely thinned out. I had so much hair before and now it's lost all of it's volume because it was thinned out so much. It resembles a super thin wolf cut as opposed to the bouncy voluminous layers that I asked for (and showed a picture of). I'm sure this is a great place to go to if you want a mullet/shaggy hair/wolf cut, but I'm really disappointed and now investing a lot of money into products that will grow my hair back :/ read more

We talked about what style I wanted (I had some pictures) and she steered me towards a variation that would work better for my hair type. Just the advice I wanted from an expert. Megumu was great! This was my first time going to this salon after seeing it pop up online. I went in for full highlights, and Megumu really took the time to listen to what I wanted and to look into some options. She's also just generally friendly and pleasant and will either chat with you or give you your space to relax. I was very happy with my highlights in the end (I went for an ashy mushroom brown) and the quick trim I added on also turned out very cute. I will be back again! read more

I am so happy I came to Kai and 3 degrees salon. I rarely write reviews on Yelp but I feel like credit should be given where credit it due. I have naturally jet black hair and have been bleaching it blonde for about 2 years now. I've been to high end salons in the city and paid twice as much for less than half as good of a job as Kei's. My hair was so dry it felt like steel wool and I was scared that if I dyed it again this time it would all fall out. It was growing out in an awkward way and looked horrible. Kei fixed my hair with professionalism and taste. Very talented colorist who gave me the most beautiful and dimensional highlights. It looked almost natural it was that good. HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. He listened to what my dream hair would look like and got me very close to it and had a longer step plan on how the color would fade and grow out. First visit to this salon yesterday and Kei took the time to really look at my hair and ask pertinent questions before actually cutting it. Kei's technique is excellent and he interpreted my inspiration pictures in a way which suited my hair texture and haircare habits. He shaped the style slowly as he learned how my hair grows and falls and the end result was exactly what I wanted. It is so hard to get an edgy haircut in NYC, so many stylists nod at my pictures but then cut my hair in a matronly way. I had a haircut and deep conditioning at Three Degrees, both done by Saeko. Saeko did a fantastic job at cutting my hair. I was unsure about whether the style I wanted would fit me, and she spent time to listen to my concerns and discussed what would look best on me. I appreciate the fact that she didn't rush me through the discussion process despite me being her last client for the day. Saeko's customer service is top notch! Her work is amazing too - she was very detailed and would walk me through her steps. She also gave me some tips on hair care and hair styling. Oh and she gives AMAZING head massages :) The deep conditioning treatment is really worth it too.. my hair was given four (FOUR!) treatment layers which made my hair feel finally normal again. I was also given a take-home kit of 4 treatment masks, so the price is totally worth it. I felt truly pampered during my appointment.
