After starting the day at Donum and Patz and Hall we felt a little disappointed with Sonoma so far. Would this be the third strike? No way!! This was by far one of the best and most memorable tastings of the trip! You can easily walk right by the tasting room if you aren't looking. There are no huge signs and its appointment only. It is an adorable adobe house but once inside, the interior will blow you away. Our lovely guide Tanya greeted us with a wonderful glass of red wine that we later ended up buying. We shared our tasting with another couple who was celebrating their 40th anniversary and they were so much fun!! The five of us had a blast! I'm so grateful we had a wonderful host and fun people to share the experience with. All of the wines were fantastic!! This is hands down, one of the best experiences in Sonoma! The attention to detail, the interior, the garden and of course the quality of the wines. My boyfriend actually can't drink white wine because it gives him a headache, but he actually contemplated buying the Chardonnay. That's saying a lot! We ended up buying two Pinots and the Syrah. We had a wonderful visit to this tasting room on our first pm in Sonoma. We showed up on the recommendation of a local friend who works in the wine industry, but we did NOT have a reservation, since we got to town earlier than planned. Well, they couldn't fit us in for a tasting, so we were ready to walk away disappointed, but completely understanding of course. Well, they went above and beyond to accommodate us with a private tasting experience out by the gorgeous fire pit area. We had such a fabulous time with our sweet and informative hostess. I'm embarrassed that I'm blanking on her name, but she's an Oregon native and U of Michigan alum (go blue) and was wonderful! Great wines and even greater people! We had a mixup due to our hotel not completing our booking for a vineyard tour and lunch/wine tasting, and the Three Sticks folks went out of their way to make up for that disappointment, even though it was not their fault. They offered us a tour for the next day, accommodated us for a tasting at their adobe house in town with a lovely cheese plate, and even assisted with booking at another winery later that afternoon. This is a fantastic small winery. Steve was a great host and provided an excellent tour of the Adobe house. This is not where the wine is made but the main office. The grounds are small, intimate and true to the origins. If you want to stay away from the big labels and enjoy some fantastic wines and learn a little history, you have to go. It is walking distance to the square in Sonoma. The wines were mid level in pricing $45 to 90 and many were already sold out. They do have a wine club but don't push it like other wineries. Taste for us was comparable to wines costing more. Really enjoyed their cab but the Pinot noir were excellent. read more

This is definitely my favorite winery in Sonoma/Napa. The space itself is reason enough to visit, but when you add on the great wine, it's basically perfect. The decor is by Ken Fulk and the architecture is gorgeous, plus the history behind the space is really neat to learn about. The wine tasting itself was a great experience and was very personalized which allowed our group to learn more about the wines and enjoy ourselves. I had the pleasure of going to Three Sticks Wines with co-workers and I must say - I am still blown away by the experience. The building is located in an old Adobe near the square. It doesn't have an over the top sign to point the way. I thought this gave it such an "exclusive in the know" feel to it. Without the stereotyped high society feel. From the moment we walked in we were all speechless. Steve, our tasting guide, took us through the home and its history. He walked us around their grounds which took my breath away, as it did everyone else. Then we got to sit and taste the wine. Oh the WINE! I didn't taste anything my palate wasn't craving more of. Each wine was spectacular in it's own measure. The ambiance was delightful, Steve was a great conversationalist and overall the whole experience still has me smiling. I bought a bottle to give to my dad, for I found (what I think should be) his new Pinot go to place in Sonoma. We stayed in Glen Ellen in November at a high end which offered a 2-1 deal at TS. We called, and the customer rep told us that they had no tasting times, but while our offer was only for the weekend, they would honor it next time we were in wine country. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, when I called to book a time. This new rep seemed interested until I mentioned the 2-1 offer, at which point she told me they weren't honoring that any longer but would, begrudgingly, honor it in our case, except, surprise, surprise, even though we were looking for a late morning tasting time more than 2 weeks in front of tasting date, they had nothing available! Yuck. At $40 a pop, you can do better almost anywhere else in Sonoma (try Hartford, Ridge, Macrostie, Landmark just to start). read more

I can't comment on the quality of the wines or the tasting experience because they slammed the door in my face! We visit Sonoma and/or Napa several times a year to tour and buy wine. We stopped in at Three Sticks on a whim at the recommendation of one of our trusted wine country tour guides. We were unaware that they were by appointment only...no complaints there, as most of the wineries we visit generally are by appointment only However, since I didn't know it was by appointment only I peeked in and saw some movement in the tasting room, so I knocked on the door to see if we might be able to do a tasting. I was greeted by a young woman who--quite literally--shoved a brochure in my face, told me they were by appointment only and then proceeded to slam the door in my face!! All I could do was laugh. This is far from the hospitality I've grown to love in Sonoma. First impressions mean a lot and for me, that means this place is a pass. read more
