Let me preface this with the fact that I do not usually complain nor do I typically write a bad review. I leave that for people who enjoy doing both..and those people do exist. However, my recent experience with this business was such that I felt I needed to share as it was so unbelievably bad and so out of character for a company with which I've done business almost exclusively since 2006 when I've needed to rent a car.
First, the wait at the counter when I picked up my rental was a good 15 minutes and there was just one person other than myself being assisted. The gentleman at the counter wasn't particularly friendly which was surprising to me because I've always had great customer service with Thrifty in the past. At this point I just chocked it up to the likelihood that he'd had a long day dealing with exhausted travelers and didn't think much more about it.
When I picked the car up in the garage, the gentleman who assisted me was also rather perfunctory and unfriendly. I don't know if perhaps everyone was having a bad day but there was no one ahead of me outside so I couldn't understand why the gentleman seemed irritated by my presence and the need to simply grab a key and tell me which parking space the car was in. Again, I thought, "whatever."
I then get into the rental car and I'm flabbergasted! Unfortunately, due to the poor customer service up to this point, and after traveling across the country, I didn't feel like dealing with the attitude I'd most likely get if I complained regarding the interior so I just left. Let's talk about the actual condition of the car:
The interior of the rental was filthy. There was cheese on the floor board, dust and dirt in the vents, all over the dash and steering column and the seats were dirty. There was also a bit of trash under the passenger seat. After paying $316 to rent a compact car for 10 days, I expected, at minimum, a clean vehicle. I actually ended up taking the car to get washed and vacuumed myself because it was causing my allergies to flare up.
I'm thoroughly disappointed with this experience with Thrifty and while I've rented almost exclusively from Thrifty in the past, I am considering taking my business elsewhere in the future as a filthy vehicle in addition to poor customer service isn't really the type of business with whom I want to spend my hard-earned money.
On an up note, thankfully the young lady who was working when I returned the car was very friendly so it didn't kill my entire experience. Her friendly assistance is what I've been used to receiving in the past and should I ever decide to give my business to Thrifty again, it is what I will expect in the future! Kudos to her for working so hard (4 of us returned cars all at once and she was the only one working) and competently to get us all on our way quickly and with a smile on her face! read more
