Worst car rental experience. My flight arrived late, Threfry sent a text stating they knew I was arriving late and would hold the car for 8 hours past originally scheduled arrival time. I arrived 6 hours late to find the desk had closed at midnight, no help and worse, NO VEHICLE. I had to Uber to hotel and return th next morning for the rental (Uber costs $85 and $50). My daughter and grandkids had to Uber to hotel, as well ($85), although I could have retrieved them from the airport, with time to spare, had I had a rental vehicle. I received amazing service from start to finish from Laquantis. He greeted us with a smile. He went over the car choices for the rental selected. He gave the two customers before us the same time and attention but was still efficient. We had a slight hiccup after selecting the first vehicle and needed to swap it. The gate attendant and the staff that checks the car in ran into an issue. We went back to Laquantis and advised we needed something roomier and with powered seats instead of manual seats. Here's a FAQ the inside staff knows the year, make and model but to be fair they're not inside the vehicles that are on the lock. The fleet is maintained by the outdoor staff. You can easily go take a look and walk back in and get assistance. Thrifty and dollar are on level one with customer service. I appreciate him level setting our expectations. He also told us he can make "the ask". It allowed him to under promise and over deliver. I appreciate great customer service. Mrs & Mr Love. If I could give this company and location zero stars, I would. I rented a car from this location and the first car they gave me was completely filthy. When I returned to the service counter to complain, they apologized and gave me another vehicle. The second vehicle was two years old and had a mechanical issue. When I called to complain about the mechanical issue and request another vehicle, they sent out a tow truck driver (which I never asked for). The tow truck driver said there was an issue with the sensor and said there was nothing he could do about the sensor, but the vehicle should be ok to drive. When I returned the vehicle, I noticed an additional charge of $97.98 for roadside assistance. Walked to the service counter to request a discount for my horrible customer experience, and to be told I would have to call Thrifty's customer service to remove the roadside assistance service fee. As of right now, I am still standing at the service desk AND on hold for over 16 mins with customer service, waiting for this issue to be resolved. Total scam. I pre paid for the car with affirm. The only thing I was told that I had to pay for the deposit when I picked it up and get my husband on as driver. That was fine. I had already previously paid 400.00 for the car. The person working when we picked up the car said the deposit was higher then was stated. So I had to use my bank card. She proceeded to ask about additional insurance and I told her no. We had purchased additional insurance from my company the day of the trip. She didn't want to see the paperwork. She said ok. Had me sign papers. I was just charged another 633.00 and no way of contacting support even though they say that have a chat. That's a lie!!! Thanks to these scammers sucking my bank account dry. I rented from this location again and glad that I did!!! First, I attempted to go back to budget due to rates in which were advertised but, they gave me the HARDEST time to the point where I gave up and went to thrifty. I've rented from budget many times before with no problems but, this time I'm convinced that the lady judged me as I looked tired, and appeared a young adult.(which we discussed my age) She kept asking me odd questions with sarcastic remarks with her lovely accent(I give her that)! She left me hanging to work with others, several times. I swear only 2 people out of 7 walked away with cars in less then 10 min. My Id is from Arizona, everyone knows that our expiration dates are approx 20 years out!!! Smh I'm convinced that appearance is everything when traveling(my own opinion) I usually travel looking cute but this time due to my reasoning for traveling, I looked cute but like a teenybopper. Reserve a car, skip the line check in online.....yeah right!!! I spent the extra time uploading front and back of my DL as well as taking a picture of my face to "confirm my identity". I chose all the options ahead of time (twice) to skip the line at the airport. All was good, email comfirmation and countless texts saying I was all checked in and will be able to just select a car 30 min prior to prick up with no need to wait in the line. But when the time came, the link did not work and when I stopped by at the counter, I was told that the process I completed only "speeds up" the process at the counter. Not only did I had to wait over 1 hr in the line, they asked ALL THE SAME QUESTIONS I answered twice whlie checking in online. When I called customer service, they told me this only works for existing customers but there was nothing on the website or any communication from them of that fact. When I asked at the counter, they told me I could not check in because I booked through an outside website like expedia ..... Um ... No I did not! I had to go and fetch my own carseat for our toddler from some locker and drag it back to the car too. The car was newer but basic model so not many options and I could not use carplay (it was disabled or not availalbe with this model) and could not charge my phone as it only had the new USB-C to USB-C connection so could not plut anyting in. :( I filled out their survey and got a response that someone will reach out to me to make things right ... its been over a week..... Do you know how some customer service reps almost seem to relish the misfortune of others (maybe that's the only way they can get any sort of pleasure from life). Well, we found such a gentleman at Thrifty when we tried to use a pre-paid car rental at Thrifty, that we had gotten through wisecars.com. Basically, we arrived to rent a car at the O'hare Thrifty counter in the early summer of 2022, about 2 hours earlier than the appointment date. He asked for identification and other info first, and did find our reservation. THEN he told us two things: 1. we were 2 hours early for our reservation and 2. there were NO cars available at this time, and with a smirk showed me a list of people that 'were in front of me in line for a car'. I then weakly told him: "I have a reservation which I've already paid for....can you help me". His response: "I haven't heard of wisecars.com before. You need to wait here for 2 hours to see if any cars open up. I doubt it though". I did end up waiting at the o'hare rental center for 2 hours, spending the time trying to connect with wisecars.com to help me. Didn't work...basically, I was asked to be the intermediary between Thrifty and wisecars.com, which was weird since they must have connected before to collect my money and transfer the reservation. When I went back up after 2 hours waiting, I intentionally spoke with a different rep...she was a lot nicer and more sympathetic...but confirmed there were no cars, and nothing she could do for a 3rd party rental. To get a refund from wisecars.com, the wisecars.com rep told me I needed to get Thrifty to send to wisecars an email, stating that there was no cars available (confirming that I wasn't a no-show). The Thrifty rep looked confused and stated that they don't stuff like that. At that point it was very clear: Thrifty is forced to work with these 3rd party consolidators to maintain a flow of customers, but they have no intention of helping the relationship and customer when no money has been collected by them. This seems to be an ongoing business practice for many companies in the travel industry (especially in the hotel and car rental sectors): to survive, they must work with 3rd party consolidators to get their name out there, and get business. The 3rd party consolidators win by collecting the money upfront, and then only paying a portion of it to the actual deliverer of services. (I had a similar problem with a hotel and a hotel consolidator). However, if there is any sort of problem, the deliverer of services are blaming the consolidators and washing their hands of it (since they didn't take any money at that point)....and then mentioning that we (the consumer) should have booked with them directly (I'm pretty sure that the associates are told to say this). If working with these consolidators are providing such bad customer service, THEN STOP working with these consolidators!...once you created a connection with them, you should take some responsibility to deliver what was promised. I'm sure all of the car rental companies are guilty of this...but the lowest score on this review is mainly for the bad, tone-deaf customer service that the original Thrifty rep provided. What is REALLY unfortunate is that the executives on both sides making these decisions are expecting their front-line staff to have to explain and/or calm down angry customers when things go wrong. Companies that continue to do this, deserve to fail by lack of business. There is a clear FIX: if you portray a level of teamwork between the companies when taking the original reservation AND money, then make you maintain that throughout the entire engagement. Thrifty did not do this...and I for one will stop using them, because of it. read more

This location is filled with scam artist employees who will charge you with unauthorized additional costs (a common practice for Thrifty, check their history of class action lawsuits). After the attendant mentioned they did not have my car type available he asked me if I wanted to pay for an upgrade which I immediately told him NO. He shows a blank screen for you to enter your credit card with absolutely no rental data or total amount being charged (this must be ILLEGAL). When I get my bill I see he charged me an upgrade fee that I DID NOT AUTHORIZE. Thrifty customer service REFUSES to help and would rather class action lawsuits then fix a $100 charged. The employees that work at this location are awesome! Very nice, friendly and super helpful. However all the fees they fail to mention makes renting a car for $50 for less then 24 hours (Yes we picked up at 3:09pm and returned the next day at 1:39pm) now costing an additional $136.05 I call that bad business. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was for the employees which have nothing to do with the prices. Why can't companies be upfront with all the "fees" that are mandatory or not?! Are they afraid nobody will rent from them? I mean we got a 2018 Kia Sportage nothing fancy and it had over 30K miles on it and needed new windshield wipers from the crazy rain Chicago was having. I reserved a car on Priceline for the price listed on the website. And the I arrived at the Thrifty counter, they asked for a credit card in which I assumed to validate my online purchase. However, they mentioned it was for a $200 hold, much to my surprise. So, renting the car and returning it, I noticed not only I didn't receive my deposit I was charged an extra $200 for damage/waiver in which they never mentioned at the counter. So after trying to call customer service ( which doesn't exist these days) I was lead to submit a form online for my complaint. Just to save myself the mental heartache, I'm just going to eat this one and never rent from Thrifty again. And whoever reads this, I suggest you do the same. My car rental itself was fine but the return process was ridiculous! Again believe the bad reviews! I returned my vehicle on time but their return was ridiculously busy for a Saturday afternoon. I drove up to the return lane where there must have been 30+ cars (3 lanes at least 10 cars each) with no attendants in sight around 3p. I was with my children and we stood around for about 15 mins thinking maybe some of the people standing around were agents and just not near us yet. Turns out everybody was just waiting. Finally a guy that maybe did something else for thrifty came by and said "oh it's ok you can just leave keys in the car and go" to everyone. Didn't look like they were anywhere near checking people in and again we were at the end of the line so I made a video of the car w fuel level and leaving the key in the vehicle. After waiting and leaving, I took shuttle to airport w my two children, got thru security and was at a restaurant on my concourse by 4:10p. Checked my card a couple days later to verify that the deposit was released only to see a charge for a whole added DAY! They claimed my car was checked in at 3:50 so I was late- how?!?! There were no attendants and they claimed we could leave vehicles- I assume they come around once an hour or so. I called them and informed them if they don't reverse I'll be calling my CC company. We'll see what happens. Don't waste your time and energy by renting here. Update: they never responded to me and also didn't respond to my CC company...fortunately my CC company thought the charge was ridiculous even if I had been a little late (which I wasn't) and reversed it anyway. To charge like that and then never even respond to inquiries is ridiculous- definitely don't rent here! NOTE: if you chargeback they will send you to collections and black list you at Hertz, Thrifty and Dollar. The "collections" and do not rent (DNR) team are unable to talk to you about any disputes. They say you have to pay first then try to get refund credit. I hated Hertz prior to this so I've just decided not to deal with them under any circumstances anymore. When their collections agency called me I simply informed them I don't plan to pay or rent from them ever again. read more

At the O'Hare airport counter, we were told our $278 - 4 day rental wasn't available and Thrifty agent tried to get us to sign for an $880-4 day rental with an extra $400 deposit - I'm sure after he saw our Am Exp card. Talk about bait and switch - then said we could "wait" until they got one in. As tired as we were, we were not even tempted because we were not desperate to do business with a company that would try to take advantage of tired travelers and people who might have no other options. We ended up renting from Enterprise in the area where we were staying for even less $ - it was easy peasy. I will forever-never try Thrifty again. As a result, you need to stand in line behind 50 people even though you have already entered all your details online and rent from them frequently. Can I give this experience ZERO stars?! As always, I reserved via Southwest (who included taxes and fees in reservation total) = $474.... When I got there, I waited in line for 1.5 hr only for them to say the car I reserved wasn't available. Now, I've only had this happen one other time (at dollar in LAX) and they're solution was an upgrade from a midsize car to a premium HERTZ brand new compact SUV (amazing service). This time, at OHARE, they made me pay $15/day for a premium Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now when I got to the lot, I checked it out, the car was 1. Too big for me 2. Reeked of cigarettes... so I look around and a whole row of midsize and standard SUV were available. I was advised to take one, and call for a refund on the upgrade. I called. They said they could not do that and I had to drive an hour back for them to remove the upgrade fee at OHARE. I asked three times if it was removed and was told yes it's removed see -90$.... Well we had to extend our rental and when I got the final bill, via email, after return.... I see a charge for $15/day upgrade..... I have been on the phone for 3 hours with thrifty and have been given no solution. I have also been told they don't believe me (even though the receipt on the day of is the one I signed, with the $-90 showing... and the return receipt shows the upgrade cost $175.... with the same non upgraded vehicle!! Not the premium Jeep Cherokee ... like come on. It's easy to solve. But bc they "have my signature and my money they won't refund"..... aka we got your money so f you we don't care if we made a mistake to get it... aka we are thieves and proud. So screw them. Like any car rental place, they always try to up sell you on additional insurance coverage that you do not need. We made the mistake of saying both of us would be driving, so we had to pay $10 extra per day. We also got sold on the pre-pay toll feature, which was $10 a day. We declined the insurance and the pre-paid tank of gas. When we went to get our car, we'd been given the number of a slot our rental car should be in. Inside was a key but no automatic toll box on the front window. because we had paid for that, I had to return to the office and get a guy to come out and check and then go get me one. Once finally in the car and at the exit gate, the security lady tells us our paperwork doesn't match the car and to take it back because we'd erroneously been told to take the wrong car - one for the Dollar rental company that shares the lot with Thrifty. We then had to go back and return it and get the correct info for the actual correct car we'd rented. That wasted about 30 minutes that we could of been on the road to beat mid-day rush hour traffic. When we returned the car, I was charged $60 more than I should have. I was angry but the cool lady at the counter explained that we'd gotten charged for an extra day (because we'd returned it 5 minutes late, literally) and that the extra person and toll add-on's were on there -but that she would take those right back off, and she did. That eased my mind and I think it could have been much worse (I could have had to dispute that addt'l $60 on my credit card), so I would possibly rent from them again, if the price is right. read more
