    Blowout at 80mph.
    Jeff W.

I was there at 1:30 in the morning. There were 5 people working the check in area. When I arrived, I was very happy because there was only four people ahead of me in line. It turned out it took half an hour for me just to make it up to one of the check-in people. By the time I got my car there was 30 people in line. I told the last guy in line he probably wouldn't get his car for four hours. Total Nightmare. As a bonus I had a blowout out at 2:30 am, 30 miles from O'Hare. See photos However, the car return was super quick and easy. 1 star for pickup 5 stars for return 3 stars total.

Sometimes I make the mistake of going to a place without checking their ratings on Yelp first; Unfortunately, this was one of those times. This Budget location currently has an average rating of 1.5 stars from 162 reviews. I wish I would have seen this before I came here. I arrived at this Budget location to get my rental car while visiting Chicago. The lady that helped me at Budget was professional. Unfortunately, I was immediately reminded of the frustrating policies (borderline trickery) that they have at Budget. About a week before traveling here, I took the time to make my rental car reservation online, and I clearly defined all the details and additions I wanted with my rental car. While visiting here in person, I was reminded how ridiculous and frustrating it is to have to acknowledge and sift through the multiple screens that Budget makes you sign off on for everything you want, even if you've already defined this in your reservation. I already stated what I wanted when I reserved the car! Personally, I believe that Budget uses this tedious technique in their attempt to trick people into buying more than they actually want when their customers are vulnerable, tired after a long journey. After finally getting my rental car, and before even arriving at my hotel, I was alerted that the check engine light had just come on for this rental car. The question that immediately popped into my mind was "Doesn't Budget check the health and safety of their cars before allowing their customers to use them?!?" Apparently not. During my travels in the area, I drove quite a bit in Budget's small economy car, which actually wore me out because it was so cheaply made. The rode vibration and rode noise was quite tedious on this plastic/tin-can of a car, which had poor suspension and rode-noise insulation. My return of the rental car was smooth, especially since I was expecting to pay the amount that Budget said I would be required to pay from my reservation. However, after returning home, I was surprised to see a much larger charge on my credit card from Budget. After looking into this, I discovered that Budget had additionally charged me for gas services when I clearly stated that I would return the car full of gas. My receipt with Budget even stated that I returned the car full of gas, but yet they still charged me a fee for filling up the car. Frustrated and annoyed, I then had to call Budget to ask them to remove this fee and reimburse this erroneous additional expense to my credit card. The Budget representative on the phone immediately proceeded to tell me that I would need to send her a copy of the receipt on my gas purchase before she would remove this additional expense. I then had to explain to her that Budget employees themselves reported the car as being full of gas upon return, and that this is clearly stated on my rental car records that she could see. I also had to tell her that I clearly stated I would return the car full of gas, as I did. She eventually removed this fee, but I was frustrated that I had to take my time to get them to remove this fraudulent fee in the first place. I was also disappointed that Budget provided me with no compensation whatsoever for their error. For all these reasons, but primarily for deceptive business practices, I have to give this Budget location a one-star rating. I would not recommend doing business at this location.

Car to be picked up in rows W-X but there ARENT ANY CARS

Writing this review while I stand in line. Had a reservation through a 3rd party (Priceline.) Car was already paid for. Had to wait in a long line just to get checked in and now currently in ANOTHER line to wait for a car. Why might you ask? Because they don't have enough cars for the reservations currently. So now I have to waste more time waiting for a car that is suppose to be available based on my reservation. But I'm still paying the same price for this inconvenience. It's funny that a company can do this, but if I bring the car back late, then I'm being charged a fee. Shouldn't I be able to take my time like y'all are currently doing? Y'all are wild and ridiculous and need a better system.

    Agreement

****Ask for a printed out agreement and review it before leaving**** They added a gas service option when I specially told them I would fill it up multiple times. This was an additional $100 fee. Also I paid for the toll pass and it did not work, so I had to pay for all of the tolls. I called customer services after returning the vehicle and they issued a refund. Overall it was easy to book online. I booked my car an hour before. I was dropped off at the Multi-Modal Facility so getting there wasn't difficult. There was no one in line at 8:30 AM, so checking in took 5 minutes. The vehicle was waiting for me running and warmed up in the ramp. The vehicle was a 2024 Chevy Blazer AWD SUV and was very nice and comfortable for our 200 mile trip.

Gross. They gave me the wrong parking # for my reserved car ... and then got pissed when I got in the car of the spot they gave me. !?! The car they switched me to was gross. Pet hair ALL over. Crumbs in the cup holders. Muddy prints on the ceiling. Landed from a red-eye and just wanted to get home or I would have refused the vehicle.

    Lots of people in line

1:00am 40+ people in line. Only two counter people. No Fastbreak window, just one line for everyone.

Here is what the screen looked like depending on if it was using gas or electric as you drove along.

I had made my reservation for a mid-sized car about a month before my flight. When we arrived at ORD and collected our luggage, we took the tram over to the rental car area. We waited in a short line and there were 3 agents working the counter. We were assigned a car that was parked in the Avis lot, but I realize that Budget and Avis operate in conjunction with one another. We arrived at our assigned parking space and put our luggage into the Rav4. When my husband tried to start the car, it didn't make a noise but there was a picture on the screen that looked like the battery was half full/empty. After trying for 6 or 7 more tries, we took our suitcases out of the car and flagged a worker in the lot. We told him this car is not starting and what we saw on the screen. He said we might need to go back in to be assigned another vehicle. Well he talked to a coworker who then informed all of us that the car was already on. These two guys were super nice and we laughed that we could finally proceed on to lunch at Portillo's! It was a hybrid and doesn't make any noise like a normal ignition would! This was information that the ticket counter employee might have wanted to pass along to us! After reloading our luggage into the Rav4 Hybrid, we were on our way. When we got onto the roads, there is a sound like a far off siren or ambulance whenever you apply the brakes. We didn't have the radio on so this sound was rather annoying. I don't think I would ever buy a hybrid after renting this car. There was a definite smell of cigarette smoke in this car. It was gross enough that we had to go buy an air freshener to keep in the car. We filled the tank before we returned it and the pleasant surprise was that we only used 5 gallons.

I booked the reservation on the Enterprise website and it allowed me to make the reservation for 5:00pm. When I landed in Chicago with all of my luggage I took a taxi to the Enterprise location that was away from the airport location. The location was closed. What I don't understand how the company would allow me to make a reservation for a time that they knew very well that they were going to be closed for. So I was forced to rent a car with another company for the night for much more money due to super late notice. Then I drove back an hour to the location to return my current rental car and pick up the enterprise car that I had my reservation for. I returned my temporary rental car I had for the night and then proceeded with a taxi to the enterprise location just to find that they told me that they didn't have a car for me. I was left going with another rental company for a second time and having to wait 3 hours before I could get a car. I spent $875 for my rental car for 5 days all because Enterprise decided to not honor the reservation that they gave me. If there is one question I have it is WHY WOULD ENTERPRISE GIVE ME A RESERVATION WHEN THEY DONT RESERVE ANYTHING FOR ME?! I am all the way across the country from my home and stuck stranded in Chicago without any transportation because enterprise decided to LIE to me about giving me a reservation. Yes that is called LYING. If that isn't lying then IDK what is. My experience with Enterprise was horrendous. I wouldn't recommend using them to anyone. Stay away from this company. If Enterprise wants to contact me and make this situation right then I would have open ears to hear what they have to offer. Otherwise I will never use their company again and will not recommend anyone else does either.

Since the Alamo counter was closed, we were redirected to the National counter where the staff was incredibly friendly. We were even given an additional discount as the rates were much better for the July 4th weekend, and we had booked our trip 1 or 2 months ago when the rates were high. That was a great way to start a trip. Overall the vehicle was great and fun to drive especially being new it had the assisted driving (ADAS) which made the long drive relaxing. There was a small windshield crack (under an quarter of an inch barely visible), and while their policy only requires reporting damage over two inches from prior experiences, I made them note it on the record before I took the vehicle from the lot just to be on the safe side. Didn't actually leave the lot with a working vehicle until 4:30 PM -- 2.5 hours later. The check-in agent, Liam, told us the car was only held for 1 hour and had already been given away -- I watched him hand our reserved vehicle (a GMC Acadia) to the customer in front of me. He said Sixt had "no obligation" to hold cars and that we should be thankful they didn't cancel outright. He also quoted $4.99/gal for the prepaid fuel option, claiming it was a discount off a local station price of $5.30/gal -- every gas station we actually passed was $4.30/gal or less. We were then sent to space C1 with no key there, waited 45+ min in a separate key line with only one staff member working, and after my 23-weeks-pregnant wife had already loaded our bags (with our 22-month-old in tow) into the C1 car, another customer told us it was theirs -- we had to unload/reload everything ourselves, no staff helped. The branch manager, Ernesto M., showed up near the end, raised his voice at me, took zero responsibility ("I just got here"), and said nothing could be done because I'd booked through a 3rd party. I also had trouble getting through to Sixt customer service during all this -- they told me the branch wasn't picking up their calls either. Also questioned why we needed my wife's marriage license/passport just to add her as a driver since her license doesn't share my last name -- not a documented requirement, just an added hassle. Avoid this location if you can. Nothing about this was handled professionally.
