Called Dan to request service on my AC since it took a while to get cool. He arrived at the schedule time and look at the car for maybe a minute and said it was leaking refrigerant and needed the evaporator replaced. Ok. Scheduled the repair but noticed that it really didn't change the issue. Really didn't drive the vehicle too much but I figured I'd let it settle a little and see how it was. Using the car recently and it really doesn't cool right away. It does eventually cool down but takes a while. Texted Dan multiple times to get his opinion and no response. Paid $1400 for the repair and still have the same issue and it actually feels a little worse than it was. My girlfriend's family have used him in the past for quite a while with no complaints and suggested I go to him for this repair. I don't know if he's busy or just doesn't want to respond since he got paid cash for the job already. This was not my first time with Thumb Cooling over the years. My air con was weak, and I called Dan. My days were busy with work, but he was willing to do a mobile visit while I worked from home that day, which was a first for me. It turns out I have a slow leak, so for now he recharged the refrigerant and added a dye. So when my car gets to the point of needing more cooling again, he'll be able to spot the location of the leak and do the repair at that time. This keeps me cool and running in the meantime. I had a special part that was a little difficult to find and Dan took the time to hunt one down and order it instead of just going to the dealership with their inflated prices. My car air conditioner went down again and it was blowing hot air. I drive with my window down and catch some breeze, but when it's hot during the summer days. I needed to service my air conditioning and shopped around. Luckily through Yelp I found this guy. David was willing to come over to my residence and do some evaluation and test on my car a/c. He recommended that I change the a/c compressor and refill the refrigerants. I heed his advice and did went with his recommendation. The a/c working fine and somewhat cooler, I probably need to add more refrigerant to make it cooler. This guy went out out of his way and repaired my car a/c. Unfortunately, the time came to call Dan for one of our cars. We haven't needed AC work done in 25 years, our oldest Camrys have been amazing (original everything!) but the other day.. our 2013 Corolla offered no relief to the humid hot weather. Bummer!! Only warm air. Called Dan this morning, he thankfully was able to come out to take a look shortly after. He suspected the evaporator (big $) which requires the dash to be taken apart so he said it'd be all day. Dropped off the car to him and got a call an hour later saying the car would be done soon.. it was the expansion valve so it was only a couple hundred. Woohoo! So, not only does he do good work he's very honest. We would have paid $1000+ for the evaporator, AC isn't really optional in Hawaii's cars. However, his technical expertise allowed him to realize the expansion valve was the culprit instead once he started to work. His prices are way less than Servco and I'm thankful he's so close to us. Back to cold AC and now the car is good to go. He's worked on my aunty's Hondas over the last 15 years and he's always been honest with her too. I'm fairly mechanical and do a lot of our maintenance across many cars so it's easier for me to feel out someone's diagnosis. I wouldn't hesitate to send friends and family here on their own. Having to call someone like Dan usually isn't a ton of fun, because everyone knows that when your car AC goes out it's going to cost big bucks. Dan makes it sting a little less. Recently my evaporator went out, and I knew it was a big job that would cost a ton. After calling around most shops wanted to have the car for 2 days or more, and were charging a premium. Dan told me he could get it done in a day, and the price was extremely fair. Being a sole proprietor and working out of his personal garage seems to yield a savings that he can pass on to the customer, and it is much appreciated. When I drop the car off to Dan at the arranged time all goes well. Until he calls me to let me know my compressor is out too, I had a feeling that it may also be an issue. Not once was I under the impression that he was trying to pull one over on me. He actually sounded like he didn't think I would want him to do the job, considering the price had almost doubled. I knew what it would cost to do at other shops and he gave me a fair price to fix that as well, and I told him to do it. He was able to complete both jobs, basically rebuilding my AC in the same day, and called as soon as it was done. Honestly he did it faster than I expected. In the time since my AC has been repaired by Dan it's the coldest it's ever been. The only con is that as a one man show he is very busy. From the time I called he didn't really have time to work on the car until the following week. Which is fine because it was worth it, but sitting in a weeks worth of H1 afternoon traffic with no AC isn't the most fun. I knew I was saving money and the job would be done right, so to me it's worth the wait. For folks needing things done on the spot you may have to pay a premium at larger AC shops. Summer just started and it's Africa hot outside and my AC malfunctioned on me. I attempted putting R134 in own my own and it last for two days before it was blowing only hot air out of my vents again. I called around to get it fixed and I received quotes from Chik's Auto Air, Rod's Auto Service, Pflueger Honda in Downtown, and even friends that are mechanics at major dealership. They quoted me from $1000-$3500 to repair it. One of my contact told me to call Dan of Thumb Cooling and was told he's inexpensive and highly recommended. I called up Dan on a Monday and he told me he'll drop by on Tuesday at my work. Yes, he's mobile and will come right to you! On Tuesday, Dan came over with his big old white van and popped my trunk open. He poked around with his flashlight and told me my condenser fan was broken and my high pressure tube was leaking. On the spot he quote me $300. $300??!! How can that be? I know I shouted out with excitement, "Do it"! Within 40 minutes Dan was done!!! He asked me to try the AC and it was blowing like Alaska. Brrr!!! Thank you Dan Da Man!!! My coworker AC was out as well and Dan spent a few minutes looking over it and told him is radiator fan was out and was also low on R134. Dan said he charges $60-70 to fill it back up with R134 and a color tracer to see where it may be leaking at. I called Dan on Friday, 3/22/24 who said he could see me in an hour, which he promptly did. Within 5 minutes he diagnosed my problem as a bad compressor for my 2008 Toyota Camry. Said he could get the part and fix it on Saturday, but called back an hour later to see if I was free. He came back within the hour and changed the compressor in less than an hour at a very reasonable price. Now where can you find anyone to do that, not to mention the mobile service. Fixed AC issues on not one, but THREE of my cars over the years. (Damn, I should probably buy better cars, but here we are...). He fixed various AC issues on a Mountaineer, a Miata, and an Explorer. He's mobile, so he'll come to you, which is super handy. (Probably limited to town, though. I doubt he'd go out to the west side or up country. But maybe? Doesn't hurt to call and ask.) Anyways, he's super affordable, and totally knows his stuff. There isn't anybody else that I'll go to for AC issues. As good as it....gets! Very reasonably priced for the service he performed in about 35 minutes! Replacing the condenser, etc that my '05 xB had somehow corroded over time causing a hole. First came this past Saturday early afternoon to diagnose the problem with his electronic leak 'sniffer' device which would beep crazily when it has located the source of the air leak... but as the supply store had already closed for the day, he told me he could do it the on Monday late afternoon, which he just did...right after coming home from work. A tall guy, some customers may feel slightly 'intimidated' by his height, but his personality won me over! Comes in his newer white Ford panel van which has no exterior advertising...perhaps he has a great following already and doesn't need it. Good for Dan... My 2016 Subaru Forester stopped blowing cold air and I suspected the evaporator. My coworkers recommended Dan. Dan answered his cell on the first try, quickly quoted me half the cost that Subaru Servco had quoted me, and was able to schedule the repair for a few days later. He came exactly when he said he would, and diagnosed the problem as the evaporator within a few minutes. He told me it would take an hour, and an hour later my car was blowing cold air again! He explained that there would be a one year parts and labor warranty, which was nice to hear. Dan was friendly, prompt, charged what he quoted, and overall professional. Only time will tell if the repair was done well, but that goes without saying for a repair job from anyone.
