Came to Thunder Island for the first time on a beautiful Saturday! First time driving over the Bridge of the Gods since we moved out to WA. $4 total over and back heads up! The brewery is tucked behind what looks like a little campsite on the water! Not a whole lot of parking directly out front. The building almost looks as though you are in the wrong place. I love being able to sit by the water with a beautiful view and enjoy the beer! We did the 8 beer flight to be able to sample all the flavors ( minus the Porter - not our thing ) all in all nothing stood out in the slightest. The Saison Du Melon was our favorite but all in all just so so - nothing to be depressed about, nothing to rave or recommend. The food ( BLT sandwich with potato salad ) was real fantastic! Service was so so on friendliness. With all he beer and wine in the area probably won't return! read more

Thunder Island Brewing Co. is located right off the Oregon side and right after the Bridge of the Gods with a patio overlooking the Columbia River. Great indoor space as well. It is an excellent spot for lunch, beers after exploring the area - plenty of hiking trails in the area to explore. It also offers a great ambiance (kids and dogs friendly) with very welcoming staff and customer service. The contactless ordering app is very efficient and simple to navigate. I've been to this super chill place now twice! I'm giving 5 stars bcuz that's how much I enjoy this place, the view alone is more than 5 stars! Their beer selection is great and tastes damn good!! Favs are Galaxy pale ale and Bavarian Hefeweizen along with their dry creek IPA! All GREAT! Their food is also good, I always go for the nachos with pulled pork! God damn it's soooooo delish!!! I've been there twice and will keep going back The outdoor sitting with the River view is priceless! It's so calming and peaceful, nothing beats it. Stopped in while traveling on the Mt. Hood Loop (or the "Fruit Loop" as locals have told me) and will definitely stop in again. Outdoor open seating, a good beer selection, and a good food menu. I had the Salmon Poke, can't go wrong with that if you like fish. An interesting blend of flavors with a slightly sweet sauce glaze over top and sesame seeds to add that nutty flavor. If the weather is nice out, this is definitely a good place to stop. They had an OK view of the gorge but the trees and umbrellas outside provided a nice patch of shade to escape the direct sunlight. That said, We were there in the middle of summer and the temperature was never overbearing, even without shade. The Brewery is located next to, wait for it, Thunder Island. This park is only about a 5 minute walk and is gorgeous with plenty of places to lay out and enjoy the scenery. So grab a beer, relax, and go enjoy nature afterwards! read more

We stopped in for lunch today after a drive up to Cascade Locks from Vancouver. I would have never found this place if I wasn't searching for yummy lunch spots in the area. It's at the end of a dead end road parallel to the river. There's plenty of parking, including a gravel overflow lot a few yards from the smaller paved lot in front of the restaurant. The outdoor seating is pretty cool, right off the river with gorgeous views. It was a little chilly to sit outside, so we grabbed a table inside...which is first come, first serve. My recommendation is to send a person from your party to grab a table while someone else orders for the table, otherwise you could be tableless :-/ You order and pay at the counter. You're given a number, and they bring your food to you. We ordered the Rosemary Chicken Club and Salmon Dip to share. The Salmon Dip was good...tasted fresh. The hit was the Rosemary Chicken Club though...the garlic aoli was to die for!!! The chicken was very juicy and tender with no gristle whatsoever, which is ALWAYS a plus in my book ;-) We both enjoyed the club, but wish they had a 'fries' option instead of the kettle chips. They do offer potato salad, side salad, soup or fruit instead of the kettle chips, but I always like fries with a sandwich or burger. Came here for beers and appetizers. Needed to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Since we already ordered beers from the bar, the waitress didn't seem too excited to take just an appetizer order. We received the appetizer order (which was good) but our waitress seemed to disappear. She did come by once to see how things were. I ordered another beer but it never came. We then waited and waited for the bill but it never came. Once we were able to catch her attention (which was difficult) she gave us our bill. Her excuse was that she was the only waitress in the dining room area and was busy. So 4 starts for the appetizers and 2 stars for the service. read more

The food was pretty good but had lots of flaws. Our table had:Snitzle sandwich (not enough dressing and over friend pork). Salmon bowl (coleslaw had no dressing fish was over cooked). Kimchi Ruben (over toasted bread not enough thousand island). Cesar salad (nothing special). Salmon chowder (potatoes had to be cut to fit in your mouth. Bland & unseasoned). The Buffalo cauliflower were great along with the ranch and bleu cheese. The bleu cheese could have had more Bleu in it. The star was the fried sage artichokes! Was very busy Sunday afternoon. Beer was good. Between our first round of drinks and the food was 30+ minutes and the waitress never checked in on us. Food was good but my son ordered mac and cheese for $14 and got a 9-12 bite bowl of pasta with cheese. It was delicious, but the profit margin on that dish must be unbelievable. When I asked about dessert waitress offered a Connolly. 1 for $7! No thanks. Went to ice cream place for dessert. Upgraded to 3 stars after waitress adjusted bill for small portion. read more

Driving along the gorge and stopped in; we're glad we did! Beer flight (IPA 140 was my favorite) with Salmon bowl and pear/beet salad were excellent! That lemon flavored vinaigrette dressing on the salad was phenomenal! Would go again if ever in town. read more

Awesome brewery in Cascade Locks about 20 min west of Hood River. The menu is large and expansive with both traditional brewery and a few other options and they have a full bar. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with views of the Columbia River Gorge and we were able to make a last-minute reservation online. The food was delicious and I was happy to see multiple vegan options including a fully vegan burger and a tofu rice bowl. The staff could have been a bit more friendly to our largish party, but it was a busy day so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Parking is easy between the lot and street parking, and we will visit again. read more

Loved the view from here overlooking the water. We stopped here for a bite after a day of hiking various falls. They have picnic style benches outside with some indoor seating. You'll get shade only if you get a good spot but it's so pretty didn't mind the sun too much. You order food and drinks at the bar. Bartender didn't smile and was very short with answering questions. In fact, I'm not sure she answered all my questions. Anyhow, not having been here before we ordered a flight. Beer was okay, can't recall any that stood out. I ordered a vegetarian samosa and my hubby ordered a vegetarian sandwich. He said he liked mine better. I liked mine too much to even try his. Stopped by this afternoon to check out the new place. Looked pretty cool! My husband and I asked to sit at the bar upstairs. We took our seats and were handed food menus right away- great start. Waited awhile with no recognition from the bartender. I finally asked "Do you have a beer menu?" He rudely replied "yes-trying to get caught up here." First off, just wanted to look at a beer menu. Takes 1 second. Second, usually when you sit at a bar someone says hello, how are you? Be right with you. That type of thing. The guy today was awful. I would also recommend for folks sitting at a bar to have a QR code provided on either the bar or food menu so someone can peruse the tap list without having to "bother" someone. read more

We've driven by this place like forever and decided to get out of the 65mph gale force winds in the Gorge to try Thunder Island Brewing Company. Actually, if you didn't know the brewery served food, you'd miss it. And don't worry if you're not a big beer fan (like me), they serve wine and cider too. I highly recommend the Marion berry hard cider: not sweet, not too bubbly with full-mouth berry flavor. At over 6% alcohol, it gave me a nice comfy buzz. Husband had the IPA, his favorite, and deemed it "Epic!" The menu is small, seasonal, and rotates. You can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches or burgers. Think Pub Food. A little pricey for what you get I'd say. Case in point: my husband ordered the salmon salad ($15): greens, apples, dressing, topped with smoked salmon "dust." Well, that's what it looked like anyway. Disappointing to say the least. I had the BLT ($11): very good smoked bacon piled high on whole grain bread, lettuce, tomato, etc., served with a side of Kettle chips. The sandwich was a little better value, but then again, hardly anyone orders salads at a Pub, right? Would definitely try something else next time. As you'd expect, the interior is very industrial and no-frills, as if a brewery decided to open and serve a little food on the side while showcasing their beer. Definitely nothing gourmet. Super nice outside seating area for sunny days, right along the Columbia River. Great spot to let well-behaved kids run around while the grown ups enjoy a brew or two. I was looking forward to trying this place and stopped by on the way back from a hike. Beer was super tasty! I was fortunate to chat with one of the brewers to learn more about their beercraft. The Experimental IPA was super tasty as was their saison. For food, I had the pulled pork sandwich which was deliciously meaty and just perfect. I did have a hankering for some hot sauce but didn't find it till I was done eating hiding under the water station. Folks were super friendly here and attentive. First off, they don't do take out orders. EVEN DURING COVID. It was like pulling teeth trying to get our food to-go. The person that answered the phone so you have to come inside to order take out. Went inside and the front desk sent us to the bar to order. Bartender looked so confused. Also, this place was very overpriced. I paid $14 for half a head of roasted cauliflower but it was listed as buffalo cauliflower wings? Unfortunately there wasn't many places open Sunday night in Cascade Locks, especially with options for vegetarians. Walked 3 miles in the snow for food and drinks. So worth it! Beer was great and food was phenomenal. Highlight was absolutely the service. Our server, Caroline, was so sweet and personable. My fiancé and I were on vacation and staying across he river in Stevenson, WA, we were looking for a chill place for dinner and found this place on yelp. It's such a relaxed environment, with an awesome patio that overlooks the water. You pay at the counter and then sit down with your number. Our food came out quickly. I was SO excited when I saw they had vegan cheese as a option... I had the vegan nachos and they were SOO good, I finished the plate, no regrets. Overall one of my favorite restaurants in Oregan. I loved the nachos so much that we came back two days later to get take out. If you're in the area definitely check this place out and enjoy a drink on the patio while you're waiting for your food. The beer was good, the views fabulous, the wrap was good - not great so all this adds up to four stars. I'm not an IPA fan so the crisp, drinkable Easy Climb Golden Ale suited me just fine. Hubby had a flight of four beers which he enjoyed as much as he could taste them (he has a head cold). My wrap had all the ingredients to make it very flavorful but it was just missing a little something. Limited inside dining and outside picnic tables that would be shareable if more crowded.
