All the reviews were of high praise we decided it MUSt be worth the 1 hr wait. Wow, were we wrong. The service was "accurate but cold" (said by my 15 yr old son). The waitress didn't introduce herself (I think her name was kari from the check?) and served us as if we were just a check to write. The food was ok but definitely NOT worth the 1 hr wait. Saddest part is I'm not a tourist! I live here and will never recommend coming again! I ordered the Route 33 omelet. Paid way too much for, very little taste. Could've gotten a build your own omelette with 3 ingredients for less $. The potatoes were terrible. They were like knowing on cardboard and the biscuit was not worth eating, tasted like a canned biscuit from the store and not the good kind, more like the generic ones. This is diner at its very best. Super homey style fresh and delicious food can be found at this cute road side cafe. There are a lot of choices including vegetarian and a complete coffee bar. The staff was so friendly and everything was prepared fresh. I was surprised to see everything on the menu from amazing breakfast pancakes to blackberry mimosas and homemade jams so this is must stop if you're anywhere in the area. read more

After tubing at Massutten Resort, we stopped in for a late lunch. It's not very busy on Monday, and service is quick. Unfortunately, food is decent only, nothing special that I would write home about. It's a convenient location with tourist-priced food, that's about it. The price label for this restaurant should have been $$ on Yelp. As for charm, and hospitality that I've been reading about in other reviews, well....non existent! It's just the regular drill of "how's everything" We ordered: Crispy fried pork, with three thin medallion slices of pork, & two sides for $10.99! They plate it to create the illusions that you are getting a lot, by putting the sides and gravy into a separate dish, and place it on your entree plate. If it's the pork alone, it will not be enough to cover even 1/4 of the plate. Taste wise, nothing special. Southern Fried Chicken, one small piece of chicken breast for $11.99! Once again plating illusions to fool the customer. Taste wise, sweet, but nothing special. Had better fried chicken in NYC. Open face meatloaf, small piece of "meatloaf" over a french bread for $11.49. The "meatloaf" is just a burger patty! Jimmy burritos for $11.99 Its stuffed with "fillers" to make it look huge, hardly any meat pieces. Really disappointing. read more

The grits are weird. Like creamed corn, but grits. I didn't know it was possible to make grits too creamy. The biscuit isn't great either. Kinda sweet and it just kinda stuck to my mouth. Quite good overall, excellent breakfast ham, best I've had in years, but the bacon was barely cooked. The French toast was good, very thick, a bit plain, although the menu had plenty of interesting options (lots of pumpkin flavor items). I would go here again if I'm the area, try some of the more unique menu items. Good for kids. read more

I went there on a Monday morning, before starting my skyline drive. It was not crowded. Breakfast came quickly. Check came even quicker - even before I finished half my breakfast. Stuffed pancake was the best thing I had from here. I got blueberry stuffed pancake - one pancake stuffed with blueberry cream cheese and topped with fresh blueberries. It was very yummy. Came here because we are in town on vacation and needed to feed the kids before they got hangry. Omg! The best decision by far. Our waiter was amazing. So attentive and great with our questions. I got the Rachel that was an egg scramble with fresh veggies.. the best decision. Even the kids liked the scramble. The veggies really made this scramble. The pancakes are huge and taste like they are made from scratch and not from a box. The potatoes, the biscuit with gravy and the Belgian waffle with blueberries (the rest of our order) was amazing as well. Truly so good and does not disappoint. Worth the wait and the little shops in the strip are worth browsing and supporting. You will not be disappointed. So this was my second time dining at this restaurant. I will tell you again the local homemade sausage is the truth. My wife still feels the waffle is the second best she's had. So this review isn't so much about the food. This is about customer service. So I was watching this lady cleaning off tables and stopping the floor the whole time I was there. At one point she asked if we needed anything else. I told her we were happy and I was telling her how much I enjoyed the food. Especially the grits. She started telling me about how they are prepared and I inform her that her hostess shared that with us last time and how she was so receptive. That's when she tells me who she is, the owner. I have to tell you there is nothing in appreciate more than an owner who works as hard as the staff and nothing is beneath her to do. I know the employees have to respect that and I told her that. I learned that they own (her and her husband) another good restaurant call Hanks, located across the street. My next visit I will go back since I haven't been there since they took over ownership and the menu has changed. Look out for that review coming soon. read more

Thunderbird happened to be one of my first stops during my inaugural visit to Massanutten Resort. Thunderbird Cafe has that "homey diner feel." The waitresses are all very nice and greet you with a smile when you enter and wait to be seated. With the time being just after 6:30 pm, I was in the mood for a burger for dinner (even though I was told that their breakfast rocks...i'll have to dabble on my next visit). The waitress gave me plenty of time to peruse the menu and checked back regularly, which I appreciated. I decided to go with the Baja burger. The burger came with Avacado, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions. It was delicious despite being a little messy. As my side I chose fried potatoes (aka homefries). A good choice as well. To top off my meal, I ordered the Brownie Sundae dessert. The brownies were hot and moist. The vanilla ice cream and drizzle (chocolate and carmel) complimented the brownies well. Very satisfying. Prices are reasonable and portions are perfect for any appetite. I'd definitely visit again. read more

Won't come back here again. Came in just by me self for breakfast... their bar is part of their waiting list rotation apparently and was told it would be about a 30 minute wait for seating. After 20 minutes I've sat and watched MULTIPLE seats empty at the bar the whole time I've been here. We are on vacation in the area and came here for breakfast our first morning. Great service and very good food! We had an omelette and a breakfast burrito. Portions were very large - we took half back to our condo and warmed it up the next morning! We enjoyed it so much that we came back two days later for dinner. This time we had the shrimp and grits and the chicken fried steak. Very good! Highly recommend if you are in the area. This is an amazing little diner that has possibly the best food we have had on this vacation! The pulled pork is wonderful, easily best in the area! "Rachel's Favorite" is a delicious combination of perfectly scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, sautéed spinach, peppers, onions and portobello mushrooms, and the cheesy grits are heavenly! The excellent food is only surpassed by the genuine down home friendliness of the staff. Erin, in particular, made us feel so special and so welcomed that we actually came back twice within our vacation week! Went for breakfast/brunch last Saturday morning, waited nearly 40-45 minutes to sit at the bar dining area. Place was busy but not overly crowded, just mis-managed. All employees, with the exception of the cooks - did all the jobs: hostess, waitress, drinks, clean-up; inefficient. The lady without the restaurant's t-shirt on blew her nose and then went straight back to work without washing her hands! Then she handled the dirty cellophane box before carrying people's food out. Took awhile to get coffee. The eggs weren't bad, but sausage was bland, ham was flat & rubbery and my dad said the grits were the worst ever he had. SMH read more

We were staying at Massanutten and were planning to head into Harrisonburg to have breakfast at our favorite spot but they were closed on Monday. We found this gem and it did not disappoint! Set up like a diner but the menu was creative and fun! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu as our party of 8 enjoyed a variety of items from the menu including the Popeyes omelette, Garbage Plate, Country Fried Steak, and mlte. Fairly cheap diner, delicious food, and friendly staff. We got the Thunderbird burger (Thunderburger) and a patty melt. They do breakfast all day, which is one of my favorite things in a diner. The burger was $13.99 and patty melt was $8.99. We also got a side of mac & cheese for $1.99. I loved the burger, and the patty melt was pretty and mac & cheese were delicious. We went on an off-time (~4pm), so the diner was fairly empty, and the waitress started giving us some tips on things to see when she saw us reviewing some local flyers. I would definitely be back for some diner food next time I'm in the area! read more
