We really liked the food on our previous visit. My wife is a nurse and stuck working during our vacation, so I offered to go down to Thunderbird and get her a breakfast burrito. When I walked in, I was informed that they were too busy for to-go orders (despite no waiting customers and many of the seats being empty), and that I was welcome to order online from the VERY limited menu at their B-Side location in the back. I asked politely if they could make an exception because my wife couldn't step away from work and really wanted a particular item, and was told no. We came hear mid morning and had a bit of a wait, but it was definitely worth it. The waitresses came to the table very frequently and our food and drinks came almost immediately after we ordered. The Thunderbird Cafe had the freshest breakfast that I have had in a long time. While staying at the Massanutten Resort, we attended the cafe at 3 different times. Each time, COVID-19 protocols were followed and we felt safe. I ordered the sausage and cheddar omelet, with their home potatoes, the biscuit with their homemade strawberry jelly. The online reviews of this restaurant caught our attention as we drove Rt 33 today. We looked forward to a tasty meal. The restaurant advertises that it closes at 3 pm. We arrived at 2:47 and were told we could not be seated because the kitchen closes at 2:45 pm. Sadly we left as hungry as when we arrived. Went here on vacation as an alternative to the resort choices. This place didn't disappoint. In my area we don't really have southern cuisine so I went with the southern style chicken with bacon gravy. It was amazing. Thick cut of chicken breast seasoned with just the right spices and deep fried. The mac n cheese was one of the best I've ever had. Cheddar smothered on top, salty and creamy with some pepper flakes. The French fries were boardwalk cut skins on them with a nice dose of salt and pepper. They didn't even require ketchup. My wife's ranch chicken warped tasted awesome too. Few and far between does a place get 5 stars but this is deserving. Usually a place needs staying power which this has. Unfortunately since I was on vacation prob won't get to revisit. read more

When we first arrived to Massanutten, the front desk person recommended this place, saying she went out of her way to go there even on days she wasn't working. We decided to stop by for lunch during one of the days we were vacationing. It's a lot smaller inside than it looks from the outside, probably because it's hard to tell from the road that it shares space with other touristy shops. Despite that, we were able to find seating pretty quickly for our group of 7 adults + 1 infant. I had sausage gravy and homemade biscuits. You could tell it was made in house. The biscuits melted in my mouth, and you could wipe the leftover gravy with a cloth and still want to lap it up. I also had a beverage that was essentially a spiked cider. Delicious. My husband enjoyed their specialty drink, which was a stout with a shot of nitro coffee. read more

Impossible to pick a favorite meal so will just list ALL the good things: Breakfast: Reuben's breakfast. Such vibrant flavors! Wild wings waffles. Blueberry cream waffles. Sticky pig . Dinners: Carnegy Reuben, shrimp po'boy, another cluckin' sandwich mashed potatoes are a little chunky with creamy richness. And don't you dare leave any meal without the monster cookie sundae! Wow!!! As we traveled from Bridgewater to Fredericksburg, through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley we came across this gem. It was packed with locals, which always a great sign for a restaurant. The breakfast was great. The Southwestern omelet had a a hint of smokeness, best inlet I have had in a long while. Rachel's Favorite has now become my wife's favorite!
