Thunderbird Home Away From Home: I quite enjoy spending time here after long days and nights getting up to mischief in the Greater Reno Area. Walking distance to the Western Village Casino, the Sparks Marina (complete with walking and bike trails), SCHEELS (Mom you don't need another one of those, stahp.), and the Nugget Casino, Home of the Rib Fest, is about a mile's walk. My bf usually handles the Check In part when we stay at timeshares, since he's the member. It works out for me because the whole video conference experience is peculiar. Patience is key. If it malfunctions enough you may find yourself snuggling a complimentary bottle of the finest red table wine. Score! Rustic in appearance, the furnishings in the rec center and lobby remind me of a comfy cabin that also has a popcorn machine. They've got a tv, games, books, rental movies, and magazines for the wait. Outside you'll find a pool and hot tub. The pool is on the smaller side and always seems to have floating balls of hair that I swear isn't all mine, but is still a relaxing experience on a hot summer day nonetheless. Not too far away is the massive BBQ area where they do complimentary burger n hot dog lunches on Sunday afternoons (Memorial Day through Labor Day/Rib Fest Weekend), a must if you're staying through the weekend at the Bird. The Condos, many of which were recently remodeled (the last time we stayed here, in July, there were new couches and carpet), are large and in charge, with multiple stories and bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a living room, dining area, and kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with appliances and implements, but I would caution you to bring your own pans. We ran into cruddy pans at another property, but not the Bird. They're just owned by the same folks. There's a cook top, oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, garbage disposal, and dishwasher. Likely I'm forgetting to list some stuff. They have a gym if you're in need, which is on the smol side but offers a few machines and weights to work on the swol. I fancy a walk around the Marina and a stumble home from the Casinos, personally. Here it comes. I know you were waiting for it: Thunderbird is Go. Have yourself an affordable good time! Personally, I really have enjoyed my time here and the people I've spent that time with. Blessed!

Update Aug.22. We were moved to an updated room which is much cleaner. The carpet is still stained but not dirty like the previous room we had. The appliances are all newer. As are the TVs. The TV in the master however has LCD damage that causes lines to go through it but at least it's a newer flat screen. The folks that work here are very friendly. The grounds are beautiful.

We traded our Marriott Hawaii timeshare into Interval and made some late moment reservation to this place as it was the only available place we could drive to. The parking lots are all beat up and broken. Homeless people living next door near an empty hotel. Our room is old and worn out. The dishwasher hangs loose out of the cabinet and the kitchen faucet is leaking. And they asked if we would sit in a timeshare presentation for $100. Towels are clean and thick. Plenty of hot water with the hot water unit in one of our closets which I don't mind but still weird. They do have decent dish ware and appliances except for the broken dishwasher. Roberta the concierge was nice and it's also a plus this place is gated. Now I just realize why I needed an antihistamine when I got here when all our clothes were covered with cat hair and I'm allergic to cats! Changing rooms today after 3 nights being miserable and hopefully there weren't any cats staying in the next room like this one. Down to 1 star. We were in Room 313 near all the construction going on outside in our building. We switched rooms to a newer room and it's night and day difference even as they are the same layout. Still mad they gave us a run down cat infested room to begin with when they could have given us this room to begin with. Up to 2 stars.

    * For timeshare attendees: read my section below. * No frills place. Everything is dated but functional. * Tip: Bring quarters for laundry soaps or ping pong balls @ recreation room. Since there's no reception live person, no one can get you change! The weirdest thing- TV Agent Check in / Reception: ----------------------------------------------------- * Video TV screen "Reception". Checking in to the hotel is being done by a TV screen (see pic), with a live agent on the other side, who is supposedly "around the corner in the corporate office". * As weird as this may seem, I was told that they've been doing this for ~10 years to cut costs. * Again, as weird as this may seem, everything worked without issues @ check in or out. When the TV agent said , "activity sheet and your keys will print out at the printer your right" ... everything got printed and keys popped out of a machine without issues. The Decent/ Good: ------------------- * We were in a 2-bedroom townhouse. Though dated and simple, everything is clean and functional. * We asked for extra towels twice during our stay and housekeeping delivered towels rather quickly. * Nice convenient location, free Wifi, decent pool with a nice hot tub especially for the winter days! * Reception area has free DVD and free books that you can check out during your stay. * Decent recreation room with 1 pool table, 1 pong pong table, and 1 foosball. (being quarters to purchase ping pong balls) * Free laundry next to recreation room (byo soap, or buy for 4-quarters) The bad: ---------- * This is a timeshare resort owned by QM Resorts. When you check in, the "concierge" (Tammy) will try to get you to sign up for a timeshare session. In exchange, you will get ~$100 in tickets, dinner or cash. * Take note that Tammy has no interest in helping you with anything "concierge"... she's just here to sign you up for timeshare prez. * Our experience with the timeshare was not good. * We had initially purchased, only to review documents that same evening and found that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in ANY of our documents eluted to what we had actually purchased. (Red Flag 1) Once we got back to the unit with our "vacation binder", I THEN noticed that we were also not given a copy of what we had signed. (Red Flag 2) * When I had noticed this, I was not initially concerned as my sales agent (April) had indicated to me that she would: (1) call me at 11AM the next day to follow up on any questions (2) I texted her that same afternoon expressing my concerns, thinking that we could resolve the next day when she calls me... * Well, the next morning came and gone and I never received a reply. (Red Flag 3) Thinking to myself, if something smells fishy, it probably is: (1) this is the time that I will receive the best service, with the absence in replying and the failed promise to call, it will be a rough road ahead (2) all verbal communication were not written down in paper as they said things were (Red Flag 4) (3) discrepancies in what's in binder compared to what's been verbally communicated to me (Red Flag 5) (4) if I'm concerned enough to read through the binder, this must not be good (How manny Red Flags do I need?!?) * Long story short, we did cancel our purchase the next morning. (law requires a 5-day waiting period) * I can't really speak to how good QM Resort is as a timeshare or how good their trading power is. But I was told that with the purchase, you will not have any issues staying in the Marriotts or Ritz, worldwide, of your choice at the week & time that you want. No problem. - Hawaii? No problem! - Maui... just make sure you call 4 weeks+ ahead! - Easter week? July 4th week? No worries at all! *** Of course these were only verbally communicated and not written down as I had indicated earlier. Sound too good to be true? My advice is just be careful, do your homework, and make your own judgement. For me, greed got the better of me, but my senses kicked in later and I cancelled the next day. All things related to timeshare aside, overall, I thought the hotel was decent, clean and functional. I may stay again but will skip the timeshare next time.

1 Bedroom Living Room Area. Furniture is dated to put it nicely.

The room was okay--nothing special, but no major complaints. The Starbucks is always packed, which seems to be the norm here. Today, I visited the Second Street Marketplace downstairs. The young employee who assisted me had very poor customer service. He didn't acknowledge me, didn't offer a bag for the items I purchased, didn't say thank you, and seemed more interested in chatting with his coworkers than helping customers. Based on what I observed, I wasn't the only customer having issues with him. We also requested housekeeping service for our room. We were informed there would be a charge, which was fine with us. However, after the service, the room looked exactly the same. The bed was made, but that was about it. Now, let's talk about the restaurant downstairs. I ordered a steak, but they brought me chicken instead. I clearly told the waitress I wanted steak. When I pointed out the mistake, another older employee insisted that what I was served was steak. I'm pretty sure I know the difference between chicken and steak. Fortunately, Teddy stepped in, listened to my concern, apologized, and had my order corrected. That is what great customer service looks like. Even our waitress suggested that I just eat the chicken, but guests should never be told to accept something they didn't order. The casino and the room itself were good, and I enjoyed those aspects of my stay. However, many of the staff members could benefit from additional customer service training. To corporate, management, the CEO, owner, or whoever is responsible: please invest in better customer service training. Your guests deserve a better experience. #CustomerService #Management #Hospitality #GuestExperience

In the morning, we waited over 30 minutes while valet staff searched for another guest's lost key. Later that same evening, we ended up experiencing the exact same thing ourselves. The valet staff lost our key and it took over 20 minutes for them to locate it. They did not think to hire more staff for the busy Memorial Day weekend and the basketball/volleyball/adult softball tournaments that were going on in the area. The night before we had to leave our car halfway in the street because valet was so backed up. The guest service manager told us to leave it half away in the street. The next day the same manager blamed the desk agent for losing our key when they did the same thing in the morning when she wasn't there. Unfortunately, this caused us to be late to a magic show we were attending at Grand Sierra Resort. I understand mistakes can happen, but seeing the same issue happen multiple times in one day shows a serious lack of organization and professionalism. Valet should make the experience smoother, not create unnecessary stress and delays.

To start, the check-in process was far more difficult than it should have been. Despite notifying the hotel in advance (in writing, through their app) that we would be arriving early, one of our confirmed reservations was canceled. This created a cascade of inconvenience: one of our guests was left without proper accommodations for part of the stay and had to spend a significant amount of time working from the lobby. For a property operating at this level, that kind of breakdown in communication and inventory management is surprising. The front desk experience, specifically with Stephanie, was another challenge. The day before our scheduled checkout, she called asking why we were still in the room--seemingly unaware of our actual reservation dates. She called again later that same day with the same concern. While she did eventually apologize and acknowledged the mistake, the repeated interruptions had already created unnecessary friction. What was more concerning, however, was a lack of situational awareness. The same guest who had been displaced due to the reservation issue was later approached in the lobby--while dressed in business attire and actively on a call--and asked whether he was a guest of the hotel. Given the earlier issues, this came across as both disorganized and, frankly, dismissive of the inconvenience already caused. I want to be clear: these are fixable issues. With better internal communication, stronger training around guest management, and more attention to detail, this could be a very different experience. But as it stands, the front desk operations--particularly during check-in--fall short of what one would reasonably expect. For those considering a stay, I would recommend confirming all details multiple times and being prepared for some inconsistencies at arrival. And for management, this feels like a clear opportunity to invest in training and process improvements, particularly for guest-facing staff.

It's a 9 hour escape from my kids and normal life and it's never too busy here. They have a co Ed relaxation room, HUGE co Ed spa that's the size of a small swimming pool, separate ladies spa, ladies lounge , ladies eucalyptus steam room and ladies dry sauna. What more could you want?! Feedback for improving- they used to have overhead rain showers now they have wall shower heads. Bring those back! They used to have a mist you can spray while you shower to fill the shower with eucalyptus and lavender. It used to be chained to the shower wall. They don't have those anymore. Bring those back! They used to give you one complimentary mimosa when you arrived. No more. Bring those back! Also, my shower suddenly went extremely cold when someone flushed the toilet. That needs to be worked on for sure. My robe was supposed to be a white or ivory on the inside. I know from experience. But the one I got must have been washed on hot and the dark color bled and made the inside look just grungy. That's an easy fix for them. Even with the above I'll keep coming back and rating it 5 stars for atmosphere and local appreciation.
