This was our family's first (and most likely last) stay at GSR. We came based on a recommendation from a friend who stays here often, but our experience was terrible from start to finish. We arrived around 10pm with two exhausted kids only to find literal sh** left in the toilet, a room that smelled like it, dirty bed sheets, and a broken iron and ironing board. We requested a room change, but were told none were available. We were promised our room would be cleaned first thing the next morning. It wasn't. After spending the morning at the pool, we came back around 3:30 p.m. and our room still hadn't been serviced. We have two young kids, including a toddler who needed a nap, so we actually had to use our friend's room to shower and put our little one down because ours wasn't ready until almost 7 p.m. The next day, the same thing happened. We were then told housekeeping only services rooms if you call and request it. I've traveled a lot and have never heard of that, especially when you're automatically charged a daily housekeeping fee here. To top it off, the pool was unexpectedly closed for maintenance in the middle of the day after we had rented an umbrella, and valet took 55 minutes to bring our car at checkout after we were told it would be about 10 minutes. There seemed to be a new issue every single day. This experience was incredibly disappointing. We won't be back. read more

Came here for a midweek few days "away from home" time, and it was very quiet - until Thursday, when a convention showed up! Yikes! But the time was good here, with a spacious, clean room, a good selection of food and restaurants, and a nice walk around the exterior for some exercise and fresh air. Photos are from my meanderings, mainly exterior views. I was impressed with the amount of work already underway to add the Arena complex. It will be completely different down the road, and I see that they're planning to add new residential towers as well. Not the GSR of my younger (MGM-era) memories, but the future looks good! Overall, not bad rates for midweek this time of year, and a place where I can shelter in place for a few days without the need to drive anywhere. Came here for three nights. Check-in was annoyingly long and the front desk was understaffed. Room was fine. Casino was fun. Although two separate dealers took my winning hand off the table. They were both apologetic and corrected it so no biggie. 2nd morning I finished brushing my teeth and my wife started brushing hers when she realized the tap water was brown. Our friend staying in the room next door came over and warned us about the water (too late) When I brought this up to the front desk manager she advised they were aware and it was being taken care of. She's told us to run the water a few minutes to clear it up and offered a bottled water. How the hell do they KNOW this is happening without a courtesy call to the room to warn them? It's inexcusable. The front desk manager couldn't give two flips and acted like I was crazy for being upset. They didn't accept any responsibility. I'm organizing a golf trip for 8 guys with 8 rooms this coming October. And we all gamble and spend generously. I was going to suggest GSR but not after this experience. I understand things happen that may be beyond their control but it's how you accept accountability that shows your true colors. Huge mistake on their part. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at Grand Sierra Resort for the weekend we were there for my husband's softball tournament. This place is grand! I enjoyed the check in area with the beautiful lights and the gaming area. The people working at the check in counter were kind and helpful. I told the lady who checked us in that it was our first time and she took care of us by telling us what to expect and giving us a decent room with a nice view. I love that there's plenty of places to eat around here including a Starbucks. I did not go this visit but I did see many people who did. I went to the cafe and that was nice! I can't wait to check out what other bites this place has to offer. Those machines are fun! I liked the one where you pop the pig. I did not understand why getting a playing card did not get me any money to actually play with. I gambled over $100 and sadly did not win anything. I did not even explore all of it. What a great way to kick off summer! Came here with a friend and stayed in the hotel. We had a cabana and ordered food while using the pool almost all day. The kids had so much fun swimming and relaxing on the cabana chairs. It was fun because they had trivia, music wasn't too loud and the food was delish. The hotel was nice. It's been a long time since I've been there. It was busy with lots of people just the way I remembered it. They gave me a room on the 15th floor very close to the elevator. I didn't really like that so much but it didn't turn out to be a problem at all. The room was nice and clean. There were a few stains on one of the sheets , thankfully the other bed was fine so I just slept in that bed instead. We had a pizza from round table pizza, it was made fresh and hot, we took it back to our room because it was 8:55pm when we got there and they closed at 9 PM so they said we could take it to go but we couldn't eat in the restaurant . it's nice they have so many eateries to choose from on the property. I did a mobile checkout on my phone and it went smoothly. The next day when I got home the hotel sent me an email of my final check out bill and it included a $1.98 charge for housekeeping. I checked my hotel reservation confirmation and although there were taxes, resort fees and extra charges, housekeeping charge was not one of them. So I questioned that charge Albeit small because I arrived at the hotel at 8 PM and checked out at 7 AM. There was no housekeeping involved at all so I wasn't sure who authorized the $1.98 charge. read more

I wish I could give a 5 star review because the experience and service is always amazing here but I figured 3 stars might draw some attention to an issue I've noticed I go to the driving range by the water to hit golf balls late at night quite often and it never fails I see hundreds of COCKROACHES running around the ground the bricks and under the mats that you hit the golf balls off of, my wife won't even come out there with me anymore because she's afraid of one crawling on her because she wants to sit down on the brick wall to watch me hit balls, I'm also afraid of them crawling into my beer or into my golf bag and me bringing them home with me, GSR really needs to do something about that, makes you wonder where else they are at in the casino read more

We have been to three Western Fairs Association annual conventions held at the Grand Sierra Resort aka GSR. Twice we stayed at the hotel. Really luxurious rooms with great views - even when the view is just the roof of the place with snow all over it. We loved waking up, getting ready, mobile ordering Starbucks down on the main floor, taking the elevator, and getting our drinks immediately after we left the elevator. So convenient. Never an issue checking in or out. Great place to hang out with friends after a day on the trade show floor. Terrific food choices like Uno Mas, the Grand Cafe, and Rim. Great sportsbook to watch the NFL playoff games which are always on when we are in town. Bowling alley is super fun at convention time, too. One year our friends even got married downstairs in the wedding chapel with many friends there to support them. This year, about 17 magicians went to see the Magic Show in the theater downstairs. We definitely recommend GSR to anyone - local or out of town. Many fun events on the schedule - concerts, theatre acts, etc. Looking forward to our next convention. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after two disappointing experiences, I feel compelled to share ours. Last year, Grand Sierra overbooked our reservation and was unable to honor it. To their credit, they arranged accommodations at another hotel, although it was not comparable to the one we had reserved. Wanting to give them another opportunity, we booked another stay this year. Unfortunately, the experience was even more disappointing. Our check-in was delayed until 5:00 p.m. because the room was not ready, despite the advertised 4:00 p.m. check-in time. Once we entered the room, we discovered the air conditioning was not functioning properly and the desk lamp was broken. We called for assistance at approximately 5:30 p.m. and again at 8:30 p.m. after no one responded. Someone finally arrived around 11:00 p.m., after we had already gone to bed. The lamp was replaced, but the air conditioning was never addressed during that visit. The following morning, we discovered the bathroom floor was soaked due to a leaking toilet. Maintenance confirmed the issue, placed towels on the floor, and returned later to repair it. During that visit, they were also able to fix the air conditioning. Later that morning, we found that one of the mugs in our room had not been properly cleaned. While this would normally be a minor issue, it became part of a pattern of poor housekeeping and maintenance. When we returned to our room that evening, we found another leak--this time water was coming from the ceiling. To make matters worse, my friend discovered blood stains on her comforter that had been concealed beneath the sheet. When we reported these issues to the front desk, there appeared to be no record of our previous maintenance requests or completed service calls, which was extremely concerning. A manager later offered us a $100 dining credit. While I appreciate the acknowledgment, I do not believe it adequately reflected the extent of the problems we encountered throughout our stay. Grand Sierra positions itself as one of Reno's premier hotels, and with that reputation comes an expectation of quality, cleanliness, and responsive service. Unfortunately, our experience fell well below those expectations. I hope management takes these concerns seriously because guests should not experience repeated maintenance failures, cleanliness issues, and communication breakdowns during what is supposed to be a relaxing stay. read more

Stayed here for a weekend with my husband and 3 kids. The room was great! Spacious and clean. The amenities of the hotel are awesome. We were very disappointed with the service, we spent over $500 (for 2 adults and 3 small kids) at the steakhouse and were completely rushed during our meal. Staff brought out our soup, salad, appetizer, and entree all at the same time. It was clear they were closing and wanted us to leave, we felt very rushed, and the bussers kept hovering over our table and staring at us. It was a disappointing experience, especially when we're spending that kind of money. The pool also lacked customer service, the female bartender, completely ignored me. I was standing at the bar waiting, asked for my drink twice, but she decided to help young men that were around me instead. She was also eating a customer's chips off of their plate right in front of me which was weird. We also encountered a problem with the umbrellas at the pool, after paying for an umbrella we find out the pool (only one that kids are allowed in) is closed, we request a refund for the inconvenience. Kindly they grant us a refund, still expecting we would be able to keep the umbrella. 20 mins later the manager sends over a few life guards to take back the umbrella. We explained that we expected to keep our umbrella and we were refunded for the inconvenience. Edward manager comes over, and removes the umbrella by shaking and moving around all of our chairs as we are sitting there. My husband had to walk to the front desk to speak to a manager about this and thankfully they made it right and manager apologized. Beautiful decor in the Grand Ballroom, chandeliers, sparkles, an acrobatic pole dancer and several beautiful show dancers. The band was amazing and I danced the night away. I like this venue for our convention. We have set up a couple of times now. The loading dock is easy to access, and the hours are long for those of us with multiple booths and trips to the vehicle. The casino is nice, we ate in several locations since we were going between meetings. It's nice to have a Starbucks, sushi and a café to meet all sorts of diets . I recommend you put in a reservation early if you want to eat however, they are not 24 hour eateries. I know a lot of my colleagues gambled and had a nice time, so I'm all it was a really nice visit. read more

Hell yeah love GSR. Room was spacious, clean and well maintained. The food at all the restaurants we ate at was delicious. Staff are all very friendly. Pool is nice, needed a cleaning after the hella windy day blew debris in it nonstop. Life guards were attentive. Spa level had the kids arcade, bowling alley, shops and white rabbit theatre. So much to do. Housekeeping was very short staffed, our room wasn't able to be cleaned daily, needed to call for towels etc. Valet is busy as hell too. Takes 10-15 minutes to drop your car and 20-30 to get it back. read more

We had over 1,000 guests, multiple vendors, and many special requests, and they handled it all with professionalism and care. They worked with us the day before and after the event to make sure every detail was perfect. A special shout-out to Maya--she was incredible! She spent the last few months helping us plan and execute this event, and we truly couldn't have done it without her. It's been a month since my husband took me for an overnight stay at the GSR for our anniversary. When we checked in the porter out told us to leave our car parked and he would take care of it. We went and checked and had a nice overnight stay. When we checked out and went to get our car, we found it in the same spot, ran out of gas and the keys left in it and unlocked. I am disabled this vehicle is my only transportation. We had to get gasoline delivered and fill a incident report out. We were told the supervisor Michael Munda would call us back and our cost for the incident would be taken care of. I have received 1 call back but was in the Dr office. Since I have returned the call a total of 5/6 times and no returned call yet. This is pretty bad to be treated so poorly in your own home town. This just shows that Senior citizens do get treated poorly. read more

When we checked in online, we saw that a text message would arrive telling us our room was ready. We walked to the front desk to get more information, and were told to check in on the kiosk. We got our room number and keys immediately. Glad we didn't wait for the text which came much later. The room was just like the online pictures: large, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The pillows were slightly more firm than other hotels & the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a good size & everything worked well. We appreciated the daily waters and a small fridge to keep them cold. Ice machine down the hall was great. Vending machine prices were too much for us ($4.10 for snack bag of Oreos). The hallways were wide and well maintained. The elevators were broken up into three sections of floors so we never felt crowded and we always got them quickly, up and down. Getting the front desk on the phone was difficult. We were on hold for over 20 minutes on our first day of our stay for a question for the front desk. That is not acceptable. We are accustomed to being on hold for any front desk for no more than 5 minutes. When we got our final bill it was more than anticipated. We were charged a daily housekeeping fee that we did not know about. We did not use housekeeping during our stay & we left $20 for housekeeping to clean our room for next guest. We did not mind paying the fee, but we would have liked knowing about it beforehand. We are not smokers, and I have asthma, so we avoided the smoking areas of the hotel as they weaken my immune system. Unfortunately our event that we attended for 3 days was in a smoking area. This was a shame since only a few attendees for our event are smokers. We REALLY appreciated the non smoking rooms and hallways! The staff and employees were cordial, helpful, and memorable throughout our stay. They, and the room, made Grand Sierra 5 stars. But coupled with poor communication and smoking in many areas made this review 4 stars. read more

Recently stayed here a week for a work convention and it has changed, but not for the better. First, they now have a terrible slot selection. A majority of them are fill the 3 pots or one pot to get your bonus. I call these sucker bets because they lure you in to stay longer with payouts that don't usually measure up. That is where I lost most of my money. Very few old school slots or even just regular slots like Attack from the Planet Moolah Journey or Carnival that they used to have. Only saving grace was the Buffalo Gold sprinkled throughout. Poker room is pretty sad. Only 2-3 tables going at once, no excitement. I really like playing at the Peppermill because they are usually pretty full with a great atmosphere. Cocktail service used to be good but hardly saw any servers. Twice my drink was forgotten and I had to hunt down my waitress who walked past me sitting in the same spot for an 30 mins. My co-workers also had the same experience. Food is horribly expensive with not much flavor. We ate at Chickie n Petes and Mas Uno. A soda cost me $6. Meals are about $30 pp. Room was newly remodeled with clean carpets but missed on the details. My sink drain plug was missing its top. The lighting is dim at best. Insufficient plugs. I had to do work on my lap tap and there was only one plug near the "desk" so I had to decide on which device I had to sacrifice. Difficult switches. No comp pad/pen. No vanity area. I did appreciate the two water bottles and mini fridge. I complained about the elevators took forever. They upgraded the elevator "system" in the Vista Tower where it not only required you to use your hotel key, but also the floor # so you cannot piggy back unto an open door unless you are on the same floor. Because of that, this most recent stay was especially disappointing. Unfortunately, the condition of my room was unacceptable. , there were clear cleanliness issues throughout the space, later finding things including visible fecal residue on the toilet, blood and hair on the bedding, and additional debris around the room. I've included photos because the situation speaks for itself. This wasn't a minor oversight--it was a serious lapse in basic sanitation standards. I did reach out to Guest Services email to address the issue but have not received a response. At the time, I was offered a late checkout (which I wasn't able to use) and a $50 gift card. Given the severity of the cleanliness concerns, this resolution felt inadequate. I want to be clear that this feedback is coming from someone who genuinely enjoys staying here and has had consistently positive experiences in the past. That's exactly why this stood out so much--it felt far below the standard I've come to expect. My daughter and I decided to come here last minute to bowl. I did not have any socks since we were not planning on going here. I was happy to see that they sold socks! We played a total of three games in an hour. Hourly rate is $16 an hour, which I found very reasonable. They had a wide variety of sizes in bowling balls with plenty of each to use. Another year visiting this place, and unfortunately, not much has changed since my last stay. We've been here since last night, and I wanted to share some of our experiences. The room was okay--nothing special, but no major complaints. The Starbucks is always packed, which seems to be the norm here. Today, I visited the Second Street Marketplace downstairs. The young employee who assisted me had very poor customer service. He didn't acknowledge me, didn't offer a bag for the items I purchased, didn't say thank you, and seemed more interested in chatting with his coworkers than helping customers. Based on what I observed, I wasn't the only customer having issues with him. We also requested housekeeping service for our room. We were informed there would be a charge, which was fine with us. However, after the service, the room looked exactly the same. The bed was made, but that was about it. Now, let's talk about the restaurant downstairs. I ordered a steak, but they brought me chicken instead. I clearly told the waitress I wanted steak. When I pointed out the mistake, another older employee insisted that what I was served was steak. I'm pretty sure I know the difference between chicken and steak. Fortunately, Teddy stepped in, listened to my concern, apologized, and had my order corrected. That is what great customer service looks like. Even our waitress suggested that I just eat the chicken, but guests should never be told to accept something they didn't order. The casino and the room itself were good, and I enjoyed those aspects of my stay. However, many of the staff members could benefit from additional customer service training. My boyfriend and I met one of the security guards, at GSR. His last name is Solang. He's from the South Pacific, and he is an army Veteran and served in the Iraq war. It was a special conversation between he and my bf who is a Marine and also was in combat in Iraq. Not only did he serve his country in Iraq, He also wears a badge of honor from GSR for taking down an active shooter last year in the parking lot. I have gone to the GSR pool many times, and the maintenance has been very inconsistent. Sometimes clean other times not so much. Today the pool was cloudy and cold. Over the last month or two I have asked if they could turn the heater on to warm up the pool and I was told each time that it was set to 84 degrees. I checked the temperature today and it was 75 degrees. 5 degrees difference between the pool and Lake Tahoe. Kind of cold. I love going to the GSR pool and hope they can work out the maintenance and management. read more

I've stayed at GSR quite a few times, mostly using comped or discounted offers. I've gambled there here and there, dined at most of their restaurants, and generally had decent experiences, so I have a fair standard of expectation. ...but this last experience was a mess. My parents had a comped reservation that the front desk claimed they couldn't find. Frustrated, they left, only to later locate the confirmation themselves. So the reservation existed... just not to the front desk. Possibly. system issue?? I then tried to use my own comped offer. No greeting, no eye contact.. just immediately told they couldn't access or honor it without my physical players card, despite having the offer (with my player number), my ID, and the booking code. That's something you might want to communicate before people get to the counter, via signage.. or another system improvement?? After retrieving my card, I came back. The employee took it to the back, returned, and said there were no comped rooms available. Minutes later, out of curiosity (& because it was a non-busy Wednesday), I went online & was able to book two comp nights instantly. At that point, it's not a system issue - it's a service issue. If you're going to entice people with comped rooms, at least train staff to handle them properly or truthfully. The interaction felt retaliatory, just without anyone willing to say it outright. This was meant to be a gift for my newlywed brother, but we ended up booking elsewhere. Despite the rewards program, I'll likely consider other options before returning. read more

May 31, 2026, at 2:00 AM: What a joke of a place. I called the front desk and security twice to complain about the DJ event at the pool because the music was so loud that it was shaking the windows and making it impossible to sleep. Security told me there was nothing they could do about it. After getting no help from the hotel, I had to contact the Nevada Police Department to file a complaint regarding the excessive noise and disturbance. Easy booking online. I received an email before hand about self check in at the kiosk. Just needed to scan my ID card for room keys. They valet and free parking. We got in about 7 PM and parking lot was pretty packed. States in the Sierra, 15th floor. We had a view of the pool. Room was clean and well updated. Quartz bathroom counter tops and flooring in the bathroom. There was a mini fridge but no microwave. I asked about one and they charge $30/day plus tax. It is not worth it to warm up my food at that point. The door to the cabinet where the fridge was, was a bit off as it would get stuck a bit. I was surprised to learn that they don't offer daily cleaning. We left early for house cleaning to come by but we got back in the evening and it was not cleaned. We needed fresh towels. The resort is very family friendly. The pool was great to hang around at. They have a few hot tubs which get pretty full quick. There's also an Infiniti pool for adults only. The resort offers an arcade with prizes, jumping castles, axe throwing, bowling alley, restaurants and a buffet. read more
