To begin with, this is the most difficult review I've written. It starts with a little backstory. Two years ago, Pimp and I came to Reno for the Women's USBC Championship Tournament and stayed at Silver Legacy. It was a terrible experience. On a whim--and lured by free gifts for tournament bowlers--we wandered over to the J Resort, which was under renovation at the time. Despite that, the staff and service were phenomenal. We were so impressed that we sought out a manager just to tell him how much better the experience was than where we were staying. We promised ourselves that if a tournament ever brought us back to Reno, we'd stay at the J. Fast forward to now. The first crack appeared during the booking process. When I called, "Jordan" told me there were no tournament rates but offered me a "good deal." After booking, I checked mybowlingvacation.com and discovered the J was offering a significantly lower USBC rate. Jordan's response was essentially, "Oops, my bad." She canceled and rebooked the reservation. That should have been my first clue. We arrived around 9:00 a.m. and were told no rooms were available, which was understandable. We were told to check back around noon and maybe something would open up, so we killed time on the casino floor. The casino was disappointing. Many machines we remembered from two years ago were broken, missing buttons, or looked sketchy. Some chairs were peeling, and one felt like it might collapse. The cashier staff was generally unpleasant, although Soledad was very kind. When Pimp asked whether any benefits from our last visit carried over, the employee helping him acted as if he had committed a crime by asking. Ironically, I still had $14 in comps, which Soledad suggested I use toward a cardholder breakfast special. We got our room around 11:30. It was decent enough, but oddly came with an iron and clothes steamer without an ironing board. On day two, I called housekeeping around 9:00 a.m. and was told they only provided fresh towels and trash pickup; guests make their own beds. Fine. We headed to breakfast at the only open restaurant and were told there was a 20-minute wait. We were added to the waitlist, gave our phone number, and were promised a text when our table was ready. While waiting, I tried using an ATM. It accepted my card information but dispensed no money. A manager checked it and said my card was declined. Odd, since I had plenty of money available and no charge appeared. He admitted the ATM was "quirky" and suggested another machine. A short time later, I overheard another customer having the exact same problem. Then I watched the same manager assisting a third customer with the same issue. Meanwhile, Pimp and another patron each lost $20 when slot machines swallowed their money without crediting it. By now it was 11:00--an hour and a half after we supposedly joined the breakfast waitlist. We never received a text. When we returned, the hostess immediately said, "20 minutes." Pimp started to lose patience. Miraculously, a restaurant manager appeared, and we were seated immediately. Remember that breakfast special? It ended at 11:00. Because several waitlist reservations had mysteriously vanished from the system, we--and several other guests--missed the cutoff. Another manager was summoned while other customers complained about the same issue. We eventually received the special pricing, but honestly, it wasn't worth it. The eggs were cold, the ice water was warm, and the pancakes were rubbery. Back in our room at 12:45: no trash pickup, no fresh towels. We took naps and later attended the Father's Day buffet. To be fair, it was actually pretty good, especially for $20 total for the two of us. At 5:30 p.m. we returned to our room. Still no towels. Still no trash pickup. I called the desk and also requested an ironing board. A bellhop ended up delivering the towels, bringing the ironing board, and taking the trash while a housekeeper lingered down the hall doing only God knows what. What strikes us most is this: First, the incredible impression this property made on us two years ago has been completely erased. Second, we arrived here immediately after spending four nights in Las Vegas, where nearly everything was comped and the service everywhere was outstanding. The hotel portion of that stay cost us less than $40. Go figure. Stay tuned. I have a feeling there may be updates.

The rooms were a highlight they were very clean, spacious, and comfortable. Everything felt well kept, and it made it easy to relax and enjoy our time there. The location is key walkable to everything . The casino was fun, but I do wish they had more game tables open, especially since it was a Friday. It felt a little limited for a busy night, which was a bit of a downside. Aside from that, the overall experience was good. The hotel itself is nice, and the rooms definitely stood out the most. I'd stay here again and hope to see a little more activity in the casino next time

First things first, The Sands needed a major remodel and change of identity. The Jacobs family has succeeded at that. The property now looks and feels upscale and much, much, much cleaner. The place is fresh. I guess when a casino owner buys up the virtually the entire corridor between their casinos they can also convert a city street to Valet Parking. 3rd Street was free parking and still close enough to walk to downtown events but is now reserved for casino use only. I have not see the remodeled rooms but I am guessing they are inline with the rest of the casino, So far I have only been to Hanna's table and it was early on. I am looking forward to trying J Paul's but not too sure about the mixed reviews on the buffet. A thanks to the Jacobs family for cleaning up downtown in a similar fashion to the Oliver McMillan proposal of 1998. Not every decision has been met with open arms, but growing comes with pains. Can't wait to see wait to see what comes next around the area anchored by the J Resort.

This used to be the old Sands Casino and Hotel but changed hands a few years ago and is now called J Resort after its owner. It's located about 1 block from Casino Row and The Eldorado. I understand it is going thru a remodeling that will expand its casino area. This review is only for my 2 night stay this week. Parking and check in was easy and friendly. My room on the 7th floor was very nice and comfortable. Waiting for an elevator was always less than 15 seconds. I have no complaints and feel lucky to have stayed here especially with my reasonable $ rate. There are 2 guest room towers. I would definitely recommend staying here. There are plenty of slot/video games in the casino but not many table games. I was told that the expansion will add more.

So the wife went to check out the J Resort. This was our first time here since it became J Resort. We checked in and staff were super friendly. Vincent, that guy that checked the us in was amazing.. thank you Vincent! Our room was so nice they have really updated the Resort. We changed and went to the pool. It's was outside just past the parking garage. Good size pool and clean. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again! Would like to say the J Paul's Italian Steakhouse happy hour is really good! Thank you to our bartender Shane he was awesome hook the wife up with a John Daly! The lamb tacos were excellent!! Cheers

If you get a chance, definitely and I indefinitely try Hannah's restaurant at Jay's casino. Our waiter I believe his name was. Danny was very nice, very polite. Our food was served promptly and the portion size and quality were surprising and amazing. We had the artichoke spinach dip as an appetizer, and oh my goodness that right there would have been enough. It was brought to our table, piping hot and it not only had tortilla chips. It's also served with these twisted breadsticks that are full of cheese! So very yummy. We ended up splitting the fish and chips, which was more than enough for two people, and the fish was crispy and not greasy and I don't know how they make their tartar sauce, but it was yummy. It was also nice that I'm assuming he was the manager supervisor. Andrew was very friendly, attentive and dressed appropriately and was just a very very nice guy that took the time to invite us back. I do have a comped room there sometime in February that I am having difficulty in booking the room myself through their website, but when I do manage to do this, I will let you know how the hotel side of my offers go.

    Very nice and clean room

LOVE LOVE LOVE this hotel. Room is clean. From the room service to the restaurant services, to the people who work in the gamble hall, all are very attentive and extremely friendly, so we dun mind to tip them great, which makes everyone happy during the trip!

Horrible! I stay in King Tower 15/F. Unclean carpet. People's dead skin found. AC is super noisy like airplanes engine. Toilet still have poop mark. Toilet seat cover wobbling and shifting down into toilet hole. House keeping service upon request due to unforseen situation. Even I requested, they only come empty trash and provide new towels. Never stay in such bad hotel before. Never come again.

The room was okay--nothing special, but no major complaints. The Starbucks is always packed, which seems to be the norm here. Today, I visited the Second Street Marketplace downstairs. The young employee who assisted me had very poor customer service. He didn't acknowledge me, didn't offer a bag for the items I purchased, didn't say thank you, and seemed more interested in chatting with his coworkers than helping customers. Based on what I observed, I wasn't the only customer having issues with him. We also requested housekeeping service for our room. We were informed there would be a charge, which was fine with us. However, after the service, the room looked exactly the same. The bed was made, but that was about it. Now, let's talk about the restaurant downstairs. I ordered a steak, but they brought me chicken instead. I clearly told the waitress I wanted steak. When I pointed out the mistake, another older employee insisted that what I was served was steak. I'm pretty sure I know the difference between chicken and steak. Fortunately, Teddy stepped in, listened to my concern, apologized, and had my order corrected. That is what great customer service looks like. Even our waitress suggested that I just eat the chicken, but guests should never be told to accept something they didn't order. The casino and the room itself were good, and I enjoyed those aspects of my stay. However, many of the staff members could benefit from additional customer service training. To corporate, management, the CEO, owner, or whoever is responsible: please invest in better customer service training. Your guests deserve a better experience. #CustomerService #Management #Hospitality #GuestExperience

Dear Hyatt Management Team,…read more I am writing to share feedback regarding my recent stay, as this is the first time in my four years as a Hyatt Explorer member that I have experienced a noticeable decline in check-in service quality. Prior to arrival, I received an email and app notification confirming that my room was ready at 11:05 a.m., including the assigned room number. I arrived at the hotel at approximately 12:45 p.m. Upon approaching the front desk, I was not properly welcomed, and the first statement I received from the receptionist was that there would be a fee for early check-in. I showed the email and app confirming my room was already ready, as this situation had never occurred in my past stays. Only after requesting to speak with a manager was I allowed to check in. I initially planned to let this go, but on my checkout day I experienced another disappointing interaction. When I requested my two complimentary bottles of water, I was told that water is not provided on checkout day and that I would need to purchase them instead. In the room, one of the bed lights is not working and the fan in the bathroom makes loud sound which I didn't even complaint. The room is a bit dated with stain on the sofa and the bath tub. The sink has a crack and the wall paper is peeling off. This, again, has never been an issue during my previous Hyatt stays. What concerned me most was the tone and manner in which both interactions were handled. These were separate employees, yet both encounters felt unnecessarily dismissive and unwelcoming. I am not including names, as my intention is not to single out individuals, but rather to encourage improved consistency in customer service and guest experience. I have always chosen Hyatt because of the professionalism and hospitality I've come to expect as a loyal member. I hope this feedback can be used constructively to ensure future guests receive the standard of service that Hyatt is known for. Thank you for taking the time to review my concerns. I look forward to your response.

You can't beat their locals (and CA residents) get 35% off in Dec-March Sunday through Thursday. For a 25 minute "grand sampler" massage and entrance to their day spa all day I only paid 60$ plus tip and tax. Their day spa is so nice! It's modern and decorated in a tranquil teal color (my fave). It's a 9 hour escape from my kids and normal life and it's never too busy here. They have a co Ed relaxation room, HUGE co Ed spa that's the size of a small swimming pool, separate ladies spa, ladies lounge , ladies eucalyptus steam room and ladies dry sauna. What more could you want?! Feedback for improving- they used to have overhead rain showers now they have wall shower heads. Bring those back! They used to have a mist you can spray while you shower to fill the shower with eucalyptus and lavender. It used to be chained to the shower wall. They don't have those anymore. Bring those back! They used to give you one complimentary mimosa when you arrived. No more. Bring those back! Also, my shower suddenly went extremely cold when someone flushed the toilet. That needs to be worked on for sure. My robe was supposed to be a white or ivory on the inside. I know from experience. But the one I got must have been washed on hot and the dark color bled and made the inside look just grungy. That's an easy fix for them. Even with the above I'll keep coming back and rating it 5 stars for atmosphere and local appreciation.
