Just dropped $10,000 on a transmission rebuild, right front axle and a differential. All are currently leaking badly and now less that 2 months later they closed!!?? Lifetime Warranty? If they would of stated they were closing in a month there Is no way I would have let them touch my car. Definitely contacting Better Business bureau and a lawyer. read more

Very happy with my experience here! This was the 3rd stop for the car issue: dealership merely said there was a leak and wanted $900+ to fix the transmission fluid leak; shop number 2 properly diagnosed the issue, and said they weren't qualified to make the fix. What a joke! I provided Matt with the problem of my transmission, and then they charged me $250 to diagnose it- which was the same issue I told them I was having. My car was covered with overspray from cleaning chemicals they used, and it took me 4 hours to detail the paint. They broke my radiator support bracket and said they didn't know anything about it. Back in the 1990's, when we lived in the area, we had TCT rebuild the transmission in our Suburban. Took it back for annual checks and had a torque converter go bad. They replaced it at no cost. We thought that was great service until this June 2023, as they went above and beyond. Now we live out of state and while on vacation with our 36' fifth wheel toy hauler the check engine light came on and we pulled off I-5 at Marvin Rd. Turned right onto Martin way and the truck would not go past 20 mph. When we stopped, it was across from TCT. I walked over to talk to the service manager, Matt. He said that they were extremely busy and getting ready to go on vacation over the 4th of July weekend. I asked for recommendations as we were heading back home to California with a heavy trailer. Matt reluctantly sent us to a competitor who wanted an exorbitant amount and a month to fix the transmission. I went back to Matt and he said there is no way he could honestly charge that much to do the work needed and he made no promise that he could get the transmission rebuilt in that short amount of time, but he would try. We agreed that if we had to we could stay in the area for a week or two. We were able to top off the fluid and drive the truck back to TCT, Matt had the transmission checked out and said it needed a rebuild and he thought they could get the work done before their vacation even though he was extremely busy already. I thanked him and told him to proceed with the rebuild. Long story but, TCT had the transmission rebuilt, in the truck and tested a day before their vacation and we could continue on ours. Three weeks less time and $4000 less cost than the competitor. We made it back home safely with no future issue; the truck ran great and pulled the trailer without any problems. I cannot thank TCT enough for their compassion and willingness to help out retired folk from out of state. Even though we used TCT 20+ years ago they still have the same attitude, "Fix it right and take care of the customer". We would highly recommend them. read more

Matt, Brian and Larry at Thurston County Transmission did a transmission rebuild on my 2015 Chevy Traverse with 128,000 miles. It runs smoothly now and I am so pleased with the service. My vehicle had a brand. Rw transmission put in at the dealer here in Olympia years ago. They did not give me more than a 30 day warranty and that was all. Well that transmission broke after a year and they wanted me to replace it again, which there was no way i would have let them. Thats when i found Thurston County Transmission. Long story short, they rebuilt my entire transmission, and warrantied it for life as long as i keep up with the yearly services. Matt is the front guy that you will encounter, he is straight up front, honest, caring and very friendly guy that has gone above and beyond each tine I've needed anything. It's been awhile now, so I'm not going to get into a big detailed explanation of my rating. But, after Aamco installed a tranny that never worked right, and then blew up after just over a year (they refused to fix what is clearly their problem), I had another installed out of pocket this time at Thurston Tranny. They give a lifetime warranty for free as long as you have them service it regularly. Other than being a big of an inconvenience, it's been a fine situation that only ended when I missed a service and lost the warranty. All in all Thurston worked well for me, wasn't overly costly, and I would go again if needed. read more

These guys are great! Trustworthy, reliable, expedient, HONEST, professional, and VERY WELL ABLE. Nobody really "Likes" needing to take their vehicle into an autoshop. Great experience! Took my Suburban in to get the transmission diagnosed. They drove it three separate times on two different days and found nothing wrong. They took the time to explain what was going on with my truck and why it was doing that. Never once tried to sell me any additional services or tell me something else was wrong in an attempt to drum up business. Good, honest people here! I will be returning with any further repair needs. My car's transmission broke down while I was near their shop and decided it would save me money to have it towed there and serviced instead of taking it to my trusted mechanic. After all, they're a transmission shop, it should be cheaper, right? Well, they looked at it, and told us it was the transmission, but they wanted to take it out and look at it more in-depth to give us an exact quote. This process would cost $600 but it would go toward the repair. We agreed to the fee because at the time we were planning to get it fixed, but when the repairs came out to more than the current value of the car, we just couldn't afford to fix it. When I told him we couldn't afford it 3 times, he finally suggested that maybe the whole transmission didn't need to be rebuilt and they could do a cheaper fix. This was a red flag to me and I declined. They didn't put the transmission back together again and said they would just put it in the trunk. About 1 week later, with a really bad taste in my mouth I paid them the $600 and had the tow truck take our car back to our house. We figured at least that $600 paid for the assessment so we knew what was wrong with the transmission and could tell any potential buyers. The towing company dropped off the car but only had the receipt and no assessment, so a few days later I went to pick up the paper we had paid $600 for. Upon arrival, the lady at the desk told me she didn't have the assessment, and called the owner in. She quietly mumbled to him that she had erased it when we decided not to have them service it. He took me back to the shop and asked me what my intentions were with the car and I told him I wanted to sell it off for parts or to someone who wanted to fix it, and he then revealed to me that HE STILL HAD my transmission and alternator in a cart at his shop! He claimed he didn't have time to put it in the trunk when the tow truck came. Well if that was the case, then when was he going to tell me?!?!? At least 3 days had passed and they hadn't even tried to call us to let us know they had our parts! Not to mention, it had been over a week since we told them we weren't going to have them fix it! They loaded the parts into my van while the lady at the desk made up what I presume to be a fake copy of the assessment. Needless to say, I will never go here again. read more

Not sure even where to begin with my experience with TCT. I was preparing for some serious driving and brought my vehicle in for a general pre-trip inspection and to have them check an unidentified issue/noise coming from the vehicle when I made a right turn (suspect CV joint issue). Day 1: 10/31 dropped car off early morning, expectation was they'd have car inspected by noon. Waited all morning and didn't hear anything, so I drove by shop to check on progress. TCT informs me that they tried to call me but seems they had written down the wrong number. I am informed that the left, rear brakes needed repair and estimated around $600. I ask if this is what is causing the 'clicking noise' I hear. They are inclined to think so due to reported wear on the brake pad. I give a verbal ok to proceed based on this information. Mid-afternoon TCT calls and informs me there are some additional issues with the repair. I go down to the shop and they inform me there were problems e.g. they had difficulties removing parts and some ended up breaking during disassembly because of 'mismatched parts' so there would be additional costs involved. (Note, I have other recent, documented support from several other sources that basically conflict with this finding.) I go into the shop area; everything is indeed taken apart - I am annoyed that TCT never called me beforehand to tell me they are having issues before they disassembled. TCT also tells me they are still waiting on a part as the wrong one was delivered, e.g. the 'wrong' part came in the 'right' box. They will present a revised estimate to me, shortly.Late p.m. TCT calls and informs me that they have the final estimate ready to get the repairs completed - which now totals over $900 from the original $570. OK, at this point I'm thinking to myself "everything is taken apart, the original parts are useless according to them since they had to 'wrestle them off,' and the only way I'm going to be able to get my car off the lift and drive out of there is to have them do this work." TCT tells me they will get everything put together and I can pick up following mid-morning. Day 2 I haven't heard from TCT and it's almost noon. I go down to shop, again. They are apparently still working on vehicle. As I walk in Matt greets me and tells me they just tried to call me. I check my phone and there is no record of any calls. Matt tells me that something happened where it looks like the mechanic probably left something on in my car and my battery is drained, so car needs to stay and get charged.At this point my head is really starting to hurt and I'm feeling like 'Alice down the rabbit hole' from these interactions with TCT, all while I'm trying to reconcile the diagnosis, delays, and "extra work." Looks like I have time, so I stop by my regular mechanic (who was unable to fit me in for the inspection this week so I ended up at TCT), plus another local business, and ask them to quote this work based off their list. I explained about the (potential) issues that require additional parts and labor. Their totals both come in significantly less. I call TCT and leave a message (they're at lunch) about my concerns on the revised pricing. No call-back. Around 4pm I go to shop. The service writer tells me he received my message and that (a) he went out of his way to get me the best price, (b) my regular mechanic likely doesn't use 'best in class' parts like TCT, (c) that the other quotes weren't aware of the extra work TCT had to do to get my brakes disassembled and repaired and (d) that if he had his druthers I should have been charged more because in retrospect he realized he wasn't probably going to make anything on this job. Moving on. I ask him if he identified and resolved the 'clicking' noise I wanted checked and the other main reason I brought the car in for service. He shrugs, and says something non-committal. The whole time he is talking AT me, while I am also trying to clarify my position, he is looking down at the counter, at the wall of the shop, but never directly at me. At this point it's half an hour to closing time on a Friday afternoon, my ride has been in their shop for two full days for a 4-5 hour job . . . I just want my car back. I pay them and get out of there as soon as I can. As I drive away, I hear the 'clicking noise' I originally reported. The following day I take the vehicle to a local, national repair shop where they identify the noise as being a faulty half-shaft/CV on the front right of vehicle. Total cost to repair is $280. In summary: I've owned cars my entire long, adult life, and I get that if you own a car you are eventually going to run up against situations where you will have a 'difference of opinion' with the mechanic doing the work. Fortunately, I've had very few and those were discussed/negotiated appropriately. Regret I can't recommend TCT and absolutely will not be bringing my vehicles to them again. read more

I am absolutely thrilled that I found these guys!! I did a lot of shopping around to find the best of the best after my transmission started going out(three months after buying it!). They got me in quickly and kept me up to date on how it was all going. They were very clear on the price and even gave a Military discount! Which you don't normally find at auto shops. It took two weeks, which is totally fine when it comes to something as important as a transmission. They even provided a lifetime warranty!!! My car sounds better now, than when I bought it! I am the person that followed my friend 3 times, to get her check engine light problem taken care of, so I could take her home. I also picked her up and took her back to get her car. One time they told her the boss had to take it for a test drive because the mechanic working on her car wasn't knowledgeable about what to watch for. One time they said someone must have messed with her car after they fixed it because the glow plugs were loose. No one messed with her car. She has 3 very large German Shepherd guard dogs.Then they told her to bring her car back because their mechanic had left some parts off. One being the taped up glow plug harness. I paid Thurston County Transmission $3,500.00 to rebuild a transmission on my wife's 2004 Volvo S80. I was told that the warranty would only be one year unlike the other warrantees he gave me on rebuilding other transmissions for me. We rarely ever drove this car and before the year was up the transmission was having problems slipping while it was driven. locally. He told me he couldn't find anything wrong with the transmission. I told him I was concerned about this not getting fixed before the 1 year warranty was up and he assured me that it wouldn't be an issue since we rarely drove the car. About a year and a few months went by and the transmission warning light came on so I took it to him and he told me he would have to remove that transmission to replace a relay but that wasn't the problem and it would be up to me to pay for the repairs. I reminded him that I was told that he would stand by his rebuild warranty even if it was over the year time period. He told me I was a big pain in his ass and I was to leave his property. I took the car to a repairman to look at it and three mechanics looked at it and said this transmission was never removed from the car to ever be rebuilt. There was broken and removed bolts in several area in which it appears as if they were in the process but never did the transmission removal. When he pulled the transmission out and took it apart he asked me how many miles were on the can and when I told him he said the inner parts in the transmission were the original parts as wear would indicate for that many miles. Unprofessional service received by both my husband and I. I called on Tuesday July 5th for an appointment and was asked if Thursday would work. I said yes and arrived on Thursday July, 7th only to be told that my appointment was the following Thursday! No date number was given when I made the appointment. From my husband - I dropped off my truck at 8:30am. I gave the clerk my name. He asked what they were going to do to the truck. I told him transmission temperature gauge installation. He typed something on the computer, asked me for my name. I gave it to him. He typed something, and then he asked me again what my name was! I told him again who I was, and what they were doing to the truck. He asked if he could reach me at a phone number that was wrong, so I had to give him my phone number again! He said they will call me if they have any problems. I waited all day long. I had to call them at 4:30pm, 30 minutes before they close, to find out if my truck was done. At that time he asked me where I wanted the gauge located, and they had an electrical issue and people that had to go to lunch, and he wanted to keep my truck overnight. The next day I received a text message from my wife telling me that they had called her at work, rather than calling me - even though they had my number. They called me to tell me that they will be done with the truck in a couple of hours. They essentially kept my truck for a total of 16 working hours for a 2 hour job!
