This place was a huge disappointment last night. I ordered my order at 7:15. My sister ordered right after me. She got her food around 20 minutes later. She finished her plate and still my number wasn't called. I went to ask and they told me to just have a seat and they will call me shortly. It was 5 minutes till 8 so I went to ask again. Lady said I will just give you your money back while bagging a ladies food. Just out of curiosity I asked that lady what time did it say on her receipt. Place has surely declined, all the previous reviews were spot on: quality and taste of food is mediocre, bland at best, my chili verde burrito was more blubber than meat, carnitas were dry and flavorless, husband's super nachos had minimal chips (he immediately asked for more chips when he picked up the order and she wanted to charge him a $1.75!!!), and the prices are astronomical!!!!! Used to like this place however one day for lunch I grabbed a bean cheese rice and sour cream burrito but it tasted extremely funny. I stopped going there then someone bought me lunch and it was the same kind of burrito. Again it had a funny unpleasant taste and I had asked it is from ticos tacos. Indeed it was. Really delicious food! Best rice and taquitos in Salinas. But the staff can be very short and cold at times. They also close early at times which is very very frustrating. Ticos Tacos is truly delicious and cheap Salinas dining at its best. The chile verde quesadilla and burritto with melty cheese are pieces of heaven. Also reccommend all the breakfast burritos (but you might want to split one because they are quite large). If you are a spicy salsa lover you must try the bright green salsa which is unique and fresh tasting. The ladies who work here are always super smiley. The burritos are good. Well all the food is good. Recently prices went up which I'm not too fond of as the portions aren't greatly sized or anything. They are average. They're beans are pretty amazing and the rice is some of the best. Most of the ladies are friendly but one is super rude. She's rolled her eyes at me multiple times, and usually gives me the wrong order and then gets mad at me for it and I get that they are busy but if that's the case you still need to keep composure, especially because I am not rude or don't come in there angry because I have to wait. read more

The food here is always great!! Just tried the Huevos Rancheros for the first time and they are spicy, perfectly crispy, with an awesome flavor. I won't say this is he best Mexican food in town but it's definitely a top spot contender. The only drawback is the during the lunch rush the ladies taking can get pretty short. Not too inviting. I got the same chili relleno and enchilada plate on two visits. With a large drink it was about $15. It was very good. Salsa bar had different heat levels of sauces, and two screens had football and baseball playing. This place has some of the best food I have ever had. You have to love Tico's Tacos. The food is reasonably priced and homemade. If you that thinks that Gino's is the best Italian food on the Monterey Peninsula, you're probably not going to appreciate this place. The food is basic fare served in a quick and efficient manner. Tico's is an interesting restaurant, there are times when it is delicious. Often with the combo plates, and then there are times when you order tacos or their "super" burrito that it leaves you asking "why I didn't just go someplace else. I've been going to Tico's for almost 15 years now. Most people either love it or hate it, but it's considered to be a "Go To Restaurant", by more people than most. Usually those who hate it, have only gone once, and in my opinion, haven't really given it a fair chance. I wouldn't classify it as being authenitic, but it's better than some of the authentic Mexican restaurants that I've been to in the area. It's also fun to unwrap Tico's on a plane or at a baseball game, and have people ask you where you got that from. This is a place where guests from out of town, ask you to take them when they come for a visit. You can buy a la carte, or dinner plates. Dinner plates come with rice and beans and your entree, for about $11. If you buy a la carte though, you can usually save a buck or two. The lines are long at Noon and 5 - 5:30 p.m.. So call ahead, if you're going at that time. You can dine in, but most people take their food to go. Some of my favorites are the quesedilla carne azada, the carne azada burrito, chile colorado burrito, the shredded beef burrito, bean and cheese burrito (ask for extra cheese - it's worth it), and the chile rellano burrito. It's about $3 for a burrito. You get your money's worth - they are really filling. read more

Been all over Mexico and have tried many varieties of authentic cuisine from the north to the south. For semi fast food, Ticos Tacos is exceptional. The family brought these recipes to Salinas in the early 80's. Used to ride my bike there when I was a kid. The food here is really good! I ordered a carne asada super burrito and it was very tasty. I was surprised that the burrito also came with a nice little salad on the side, that too was really good. I ate there for the 1st time today and had the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans plate. Overall, it was good. I like my enchiladas with a lot of sauce and it definitely had a lot of good sauce. The rice and beans were ok, not the best in the world but not bad. What I was shocked at was the price!!!! I couldn't eat there on a regular basis for lunch.... my food budget would be out of control. I will go back but not for awhile. Salinas is full of Taco joints, which offer everything from very poor quality to super Mexican food. This place offers the worst Mexican food I have ever tasted at a price that is crazy given what they give you. I watched my Super Nacho's cooked in a microwave. When they came, they were horrible and the cheese was disgusting. My partner had a Burito, which again was overpriced and had virtually no meat. Both orders were poor, small for the price and tasteless. Avoid the overpriced plastic food at this place. read more

I've been going to Tico's for about 35 years. It's always been quick serve food. Good to satisfy your Mexican food craving. HOWEVER, this place is too expensive. It seems like in the past 2 years they've raised their prices several times. Claudia must be subsidizing her expensive rent in Monterey with higher prices. The combination plates are now $11.95 which most are 2 selections and small beans & rice. This food should be about $8.95 max. Unfortunately, she'll probably just keep raising prices until she goes out of business. read more
