I think it's such a cute store with lots of handmade and muertos-themed items that is great for your own place or to get as gifts and souvenirs. This is the best tienda para Dia De Los Muertos! I love this shop and all that they sell! In the morning they set up a memorial with sand/dirt and popsicle sticks to write the names of loved ones. We arrived early to have breakfast before the festivities started but couldn't help being the first to partake in remembering a loved one that has passed. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. If you have a chance to stop by in old Town, it is located by Casa de Reyes which merged with Fowata de Reyes and located near the fresh made free tortillas shack! read more

Cute store with many made in Mexico items! Perfect place to buy dia de los muertos items or bring home a Mexican souvenir!

This is a local gem of a store! The selections are hand picked and include many unique regional Mexican goods like hand crafted wooden statues and beautiful shirts and clothing. I especially love the little trinkets like loteria themed pins with cartoon characters on them. It's also a great place to grab some Mexican candy if you are craving dulces. I have also received good service when I need help finding something specific and during checkout. The overall value of the store is good relative to nearby stores as this is a tourist destination. read more

This is a great spot to shop for some colorful art pieces or gifts. There's some stuff that's more touristy, but if you look carefully you will find some nice pieces in there! I particularly liked the colorful skeleton-themed miniature sculptures. The decorated animal skulls were also cool. T-shirts, hats, sunglasses, candy... there's a bunch of random stuff in here as well. The proximity to the rest of the shops and restaurants in this plaza makes it a no-brainer to stop in and window shop a bit as you wander through - or perhaps as you wait to be seated at one of the nearby restaurants. It's also close to the performance stage, so you can usually hear the pleasant sounds of music and applause as you shop. Very nice service here. Had family in town and what better place to visit. Tienda de reyes is my favorite shop. I love all the stickers and handmade items. They have a ton of art, which is awesome. I purchased a canvas. The greeter with the short gray hair helped us, She was sweet and very informative about the artist. I'm giving it one star Not because of the store but because of the customer service the staff that was working late on tonight was extremely rude! When I was ready to pay there was a staff member (blonde long hair) on floor and I said excuse where do I to pay She Looked at me and pointed rudely to the back register and I was like okkkkk???? So then I head to the register and there was a cashier (short dark hair) as she counted money or whatever she was doing and I was standing there I waited patiently till she was done until I said excuse me, I'm ready to pay and she just looked at me and didn't say anything or care to acknowledge me , so I put my stuff on the counter and she's just looked at me and she continues to do what she was doing and then she finally started checking me out and she doesn't say a word she rudely put my stuff in a bag and didn't even tell me if the transaction was finished so I'm standing there and then I'm like that's it and she just looked at me rolled her eyes and said yes! . I understand that you're tired or overwhelmed or whatever the case may be but that doesn't make ok to be rude to customers just saying. over all the stores super cute. There's a bunch of stuff from stickers ,clothes. It's just a vibe in there except the customer service could do better The store's merchandise is five stars. read more

Fun shop in Old Town. Perfect for souvenir shopping, gift buying or just browsing. Lots of Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) items - clothing, jewelry, T-shirts, artwork, etc. We actually resisted buying these (although the temptation was strong), but picked up, instead, several small, patron saint prayer icons. I have been shopping at this store for years! I don't know why I haven't posted on it until today. As a latina that loves skulls, frida and my heritage it's easy to love a store like tienda de Reyes. I remember an instance many years ago that I will never forget because it solidified me as a customer.. I remember I first noticed Shawn the owner walking around with her dia de los muertos dress with her face fully painted about 10 yrs ago I think... She had on this GORGEOUS skull necklace in silver and I asked if they sold those at her store. She said yes and that's when I rushed over to buy mine. Sadly it was only in gold. As I sat to eat some chips and salsa with a friend, Shawn came up to me and said "if you still want the silver one you can have the one I am wearing," I was shocked and so surprised. I was like in love with her after that lol. And hell yes I bought it and still have it!!! :) I visit old town several times a year, and EVERY time I visit I stop in my favorite shop. EVERY time I visit the shop I never leave empty handed. There are multiple entrances which is great because it can get very crowded in the area. When you walk in, you can imagine yourself in the streets of Mexico in the ciudadela of Mexico city where you find clothes, artisans, art work...all kinds of awesome stuff. The staff that work there are usually pretty busy and in some cases not helpful but it's okay because I understand they are busy and have to watch tons of ppl that walk in. You will find frida stuff, sugar skull stuff, candy, clothes, purses, art work, wallets, jewelry, games, stickers, posters, etc etc. You will find local artists' work like my buddy David Lozeau! If you are in the area please come by and check out this awesome treasure out!! I can tell you , you will not be disappointed in the selection and the pure beauty that this store is!! Giving it one star because the customer service was terrible. I was in here 4 days ago and bought a ton of stuff but I was also rushing that day so I came in again today. My husband liked a tshirt on display. The only employee I can find was one that was sorting out a box on the floor (don't know her name, she was young with short brunette hair). I asked her if she worked there and she gave me the nastiest look and said "what's up". Ok no big deal. But then we went to pay. The cash register was literally right in front of the area she was sorting her boxes so she was staring directly at us with our stuff on the counter. She clearly saw us so I wanted to give her a chance to finish up what she was doing. At this point the line was getting longer and another employee tapped her on the shoulder to head over to the register. Then she turns to me and says "well thanks for letting me know you were ready" in the nastiest, most sarcastic tone. Right, Because I am only standing with my items on the register counter bc I have nowhere else to hang out all day . Sorry, I wasn't throwing a fit and rushing you. Then instead of checking my items out, she gives me a face bc she had to extend her arms 2 inches to grab my items. Like how dare I not put them directly in her hands. It took all I had to not just leave my items and walk out, but she's clearly just a miserable, bitter person so it wouldn't have been worth it. Won't be coming back though. read more

Great tourist shop! Lots of Dios De La Muertos things! Friendly staff, offering help. Feels a bit crowded but really wasn't. If it had been busier, certainly it would have been cramped. But we went on Wednesday, November 13th (yesterday). I did not make a purchase but my girlfriend did! Very happy with her items! I wish I had more money! Lots of great stuff including tons of day of the dead themed items. My favorites were the cute little skull ceramics which miraculously survived the flight back to Boston. Fun to walk around and enjoy everything. I also have to give special props to one of the store employees who let me exchange a ceramic sun wall hanging. My friend asked me to pick one up when we split up for the day and I came here. But, my friend didn't like the one I selected and want a different color. The chick was so chill about the return and really helped me out! Definitely one of the best shops to visit in Old Town! read more

LOVE this store! If you like Day of the Dead sculptures and art, this is the place to visit. They carry beautiful skeleton artwork by John de Jesus and the Catrina dolls are amazing - unlike any I've seen elsewhere (they run around $200 each, but are very well made). The nicer items are pricey, but worthwhile. The store also has a souvenir section where you can find different items for far less in price (trinkets, purses, shirts, etc.). If you are visiting Old Town San Diego, definitely check out their artwork and sculptures. read more

Cute little gift shop conveniently located next to Casa de Reyes. I always come look inside when I'm in old town with my family. I like the fact that it has multiple entry ways. The artwork on the walls are beautiful & priced for tourists. (& By that I mean extremely over priced!) The clothes are very authentic looking. The collectibles are cute! Some say made in Mexico, others say made in Peru. My only problem is the customer service in this store. Pretty much none!! Not once during my multiple visits to this store have I ever been greeted or asked if I needed help looking for anything. The girls whom work here are always gossiping to each other. Especially in front of customers, this is extremely inappropriate. When I want to purchase something, I either have to wait until someone notices me to pay or have to ask the girls themselves to do their job and ring me up. Today I decided to purchase a souvenir and I had to ask for assistance. The girl who rang me up was extremely rude & seemed bothersome! Not once did she smile or ask if we found everything okay. I don't even think she said a word the entire time besides "sign here" on the receipt. I'd expect more out of them, especially because this is a very big traffic of tourism spot. Because of the terrible multiple experiences here, I only rate them one star. read more

So I rarely fall in love with stores, but being a huge Dia de Los Muertos fan, I truly am in LOVE with this store. Honestly, it's one of the best stores in Old Town. They have really gorgeous, unique, high quality items. Art, clothing (from traditional Mexican wear to very chic and modern), hair accessories, jewelry, trinkets, ornaments, scarves, greeting cards--everything, you name it--all at reasonable prices. And during DDLM they feature amazing artists showcasing their artwork. Love it. I always find something cool and unique here that I know I won't find anywhere else. They never disappoint. Staff is great too. Very helpful when you're on the hunt for something specific, although a little "hover-ish", but that's to be expected when the store is jam packed during that time of the year. Stores can never be too careful. Anywho, definitely pay them a visit next time you're there! read more

Another outstanding Mexican folkart shop in Old Town San Diego. They have awesome masks, great t-shirts, Peruvian pottery, Dia de los Muertos things, albrijes, and all types of souvenirs. I love this place! Prices are reasonable, and they are even willing to text you pics of their items if you want something shipped to you. I usually don't give reviews for retail stores, but when a sales person goes above and beyond, I'm happy to rave about it! I called looking for embroidered blouses for a fiesta party. I was driving from about an hour away, and just wanted to make sure they had a variety of styles and sizes I was looking for (two toddlers and two adults). Mariah was amazing on the phone! She offered to take photos and send them and also to hold the styles I liked! That kind of customer service will have me coming back time and again! When I called them to explain what happened they not only excused themselves (even though was not their fault at all) as well as mailed me the item and I got after 3 days. I have been coming to Old Town since I was a kid and was pretty bummed when they closed the Bazaar del Mundo but I recently went for Sunday brunch and they do still have some great little shops! This was one of them. Tons of hand made Mexican gifts. They sell a lot of local made products and it is just an all around great gift shop. This store pretty much helped me cover 75% of my souvenir gifts for the family. Was also nice and organized, and the ladies working the shop were always available to help you. I especially liked the witty graphic tees, and the variety of Dia de Los Muertos art there. Oh my gah... I do have to own up to an accident I had in the shop. Ya see... I didn't know the leather chaps looking shot glass wasn't actually glued to the glass, so when I tipped my hand to gesture to something I wanted my boyfriend to pick up for me, the glass fell out shattering on the floor. *MORTIFIED* I guess there really is a first for everything in life. Anyway... I was totally prepared to pay for the shot glass as well as the new one I picked up as a replacement, but one of the ladies was nice enough to just replace the glass I broke with one from the back. I love the selection of folk items in this store, tons of great stuff to look at. Everything from skirts, to accessories, to decor to jewelry and more clutter the shelves. Some many little rooms of items to gawk at. Lots of day of the dead/dia de los muertos items here. Saw tons of things I was interested. Customer service was friendly and nice, but not readily available. What bummed me out about this store was how overpriced everything was. Granted were in Historic Old Town and granted the real estate must be ridiculously high and that most of the items are handcrafted/mass produced to make look handcrafted. But you can find much of these items online or elsewhere in mom&pop places for WAAAY cheaper. Not much was on sale either, a few shelves of stuff at 30% off, but nothing major, considering the items on those shelves cost more than $20 a piece (for small statues, t-shirts and such). Will have to come back and try again maybe closer or after the holidays to see what real sales exist here. I am a fan, just meh experienced better in the price department and customer service. Good thing for them they have a free parking lot within walking distance by the Urban Seed. read more
