Stopped by Taqueria Tienda Morelos and left wondering why I hadn't come sooner. The tacos were outstanding. The tortillas had that authentic flavor and texture you just don't get from chain restaurants, and the meat was flavorful, well-seasoned, and packed into every taco. The green salsa was the star of the show for me. Creamy, slightly spicy, and absolutely addictive. I found myself putting it on every bite. The fresh cilantro, onions, and generous lime wedges brought everything together perfectly. Simple ingredients done right. Beyond the food, I loved the atmosphere. It's part taqueria, part Mexican market, which always feels like a good sign when you're looking for authentic food. No frills, no gimmicks, just great food and a steady stream of customers who clearly know where to find the good stuff. I've had the chicken tacos twice and today', I had asada tacos and Torta Cubana. The tacos are authentic with cilantro and onion and packed with meat. A great taqueria! The Cubano was not to bready with sausage, egg, bacon, ham and was delicious. Not sure what Chris C below is talking about because Paco's has nothing on this place. Let's be real, the best authentic taco spots in Indy are on the West and Southside. Nothing in Fishers comes close. Chris must be a Taco Bell guy. Note: I only ate at the restaurant without shopping at the grocery. I didn't realize until I started working on my review that there are Tiendo Morelos restaurants/markets all around town. I don't usually shop at a Mexican grocery unless I am looking for cotija cheese for making elote. However, I entered the grocery because the sign in front of the restaurant entrance said it was closed. I clearly saw people working at the food counter and a customer standing there, so I went through the grocery to see what was going on. Apparently, nobody had removed the sign and left a "caution" cone blocking the door. Anyway, after the weird start, I enjoyed my experience. The colorful dining room has lots of festival streamers hanging from the ceiling and loud Mexican music playing. (Note that the grocery has an equally loud sound system playing something completely different so you get a weird stereo effect that is hard to tune out.) The dining booths go about half way back into the restaurant on both sides. Beyond the left side is a cooking area with a large menu posted over the top. Even though there is a counter at the cooking area, you don't order there. Behind you on the right near the back of the restaurant is a smaller counter with a cash register and a menu booklet that you order from. Once you place your order and pay, you wait and they will bring it out to you. Note that any beverages are sold in bottle form and are self-serve from the cooler next to the order counter. The wait was fairly short considering they prepare the entrees to order. I went with a couple tacos (with the cilantro and white onion) and ordered rice and beans. Apparently the cashier had a little trouble understanding me when I ordered the Asada and Pollo tacos. I was brought out the Asada and Lomo instead. (I was the only customer at the time.) But, instead of sending it back, I like pork loin as well as chicken, so I simply added some green sauce (mild) and a few drops of red (supposed to be hot, but I didn't think it was that hot.) The tacos were excellent. They were served on double layered corn tortillas. I usually prefer flour, but wasn't given an option here. These were the best tasting corn tortilla shells I've had. And the ingredients inside were delicious with the added items being colorfully fresh. The side of beans and rice were forgettable. Not bad, just lacking much texture and flavor. Very bland and not much other than filler when compared to the robust flavor of the tacos. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty clean looking, so given the high quality of flavor, I would recommend stopping by to quench your Mexican food cravings. Review #2698 read more

Perhaps what happened during my one (and only, probably) visit here was a one off, especially given the very high ratings others have given this restaurant (well, this food counter, really). Who knows? But if this is standard for what this small, local chain of taquerias has to offer, and people are rating it this high, I'm guessing a lot of folks don't know how a really good one operates. I wanted four different tacos that were ON THEIR MENU - barbacoa, tripe, lomo and carnitas. After the guy who was supposed to be working the cash register put down his phone and walked over to take my order, he informed me they were out of three of the four tacos I wanted. How a Mexi joint/taqueria that's literally part of an entire Mexican grocery runs out of carnitas, I don't know. But that's what he said. So I ordered barbacoa, al pastor, carne asada and chorizo (with onions and cilantro and salsa roja on the side). And a can of Coke. Each taco came back almost as hot as the surface of the sun. After letting things cool down for a while, the barbacoa tasted pretty good, by far the best of the four. The chorizo was overly crispy and actually tasted crunchy. The al pastor was ok, nothing special, possibly under-marinated or something because it didn't taste spicy at all, while it should. I think the whole meal was like $16, so I can't complain about that. But to be out of that much stuff and to send food out that looks and tastes overcooked and underspiced....I was not impressed. Go to Paco's Taqueria if you're on the South Side or near downtown or Pancho's if you're in Fishers. Much better. read more

Being a California girl, tacos have always been one of my major food groups and always will be. That experience also leads me to believe that some of the best tacos you'll ever have are in small little out-of-the-way places that are simple and unassuming. Such is the case here. Nothing fancy, mind you, but simple done so well. Tried the chicken and steak tacos with onion, cilantro and their two fun house salsas in old school tall squeeze ketchup/mustard/condiment type bottles. Flavorful, filling and only one gristly bit had to be removed. When I'm in this part of town, I'm not missing a stop in here. read more

We have had a few bad experiences recently with local taquerias and this was the light at the end of a dark tunnel. The tacos were simple and delicious- just as they should be! All of the tacos were fresh and flavorful with just the right amount of char on the carne asada. They're all made hot and fresh on a flat top grill and served with red and green sauce! This is a magnificent place! Having recently moved here from Florida. We are lovers of the Latin flavor! But, have been looking for a way to get at least some of the food s and spices we had very available to us in So Flo! My daughters are the Tienda Morelos and called us up with the "News" So she and my beautiful wife made a date to go and " just take a look"... And my cell started going off after just a little while! My wife was thrilled with the service and selection she found in the place! A greater variety of foods and some very specialized products to the true Latino foods too! She ended up buying all the things that she was looking forward to and then some. And seasoning of all sorts to do a large amount of her fabulous dinners. Right away she made us a family favorite of "Arros Con Pollo"and Flan de Coco" was dessert with a wonderful look of satisfaction on her face, and contentment in our lives because "Mammas happy"and so am I. This is ONLY for the restaurant. Went around lunch hour and there was only one person in front of me. Ordered steak taco's along with chips and guacamole. Tacos were $3/piece and the guac and chips were $6. Price was on steeper side compared to prices paid in Chicago. The guac serving was big and plenty for two people, but the proportion of other veges to avocado was high, for that price should have been more avocado. This is probably my most frequented taqueria in town. I love it! It's cheap. $4 feeds me with 2 well-filled tacos of my choice and a Coke in a bottle (an excellent pairing). These Coke bottles come from Mexico. I've tried every taco from el pastor to barbacoa to carnitas and have destroyed any evidence that I ordered any food within moments. I enjoyed my visit to Tienda Morelos. They had a large selection of authentic Mexican dishes, a little larger diversity of items than some counterpart Mexican groceries. Not just burritos, tortas, tacos and quesdadillas, but sopes, ceviche, molletes, and huaraches too. And they pass the "Do they have lengua and/or horchata?" test. The protein selection is also diverse, with lomo (pork loin), cesina (dried/cured beef), and chicharrones, on top of the usual suspects. I ordered a lengua sope ($2.99) and chorizo huarache ($4.99); of the two (2), the huarache was my favorite, a oblong piece of griddled masa dough with flavorful chorizo, lettuce, crema, and tomatoes on top. The texture and flavor of the huarache dough was great, and definitely something I'd order again. Two (2) squirt bottles filled with spicy red and green sauces were made available, if you like to spice up your order, as well as roasted jalapenos on the counter. The seating area had about eight (8) booths and it was very clean & colorful. Make sure you place your order at the freestanding kiosk with the cash register, not at the kitchen counter. Tienda Morelos at Stop 11 isn't my absolute favorite-favorite Mexican grocery restaurant, but I definitely recommend it to those wanting to try a different, more authentic style of Mexican food...order a huarache! read more

5 stars - Have you ever been asked the question? You know the one... You're at a party with a lamp shade on your head, pretending to be Darth Vader, when someone from another room - usually the kitchen - asks, "If you were on death row for killing a bus load of orphans, what would be your last meal?" Well, immediately after trying to use the force to choke said someone, I say, "2 spicy pork (pastor) from Tienda Morelos at Stop 11 & Madison with cilantro, onion, and lime and a large horchata" in my best James Earl Jones. Seriously! They are that good! All of them: asada, pastor, pollo, they took chorizo off the menu for some reason, carnitas, chicharron, barbacoa, and tripa. The tripa is slightly more pricey at $2.50 compared to $1.75, but is worth every penny. To top it off they have a formidable red sauce and the best verde in town. Spicy enough to feel, but not enough the natural flavor of the tomatillos and jalapeño peppers. So...You've had a rough day. You did some stuff, maybe even some more stuff. Don't you deserve a treat? Just about anything is great, barbacoa, pastor, carnitas are all outrageous, Jarritos in the fridge, this is my Southside spot for tacos. Amazing tacos!!!! Good tostadas!!! The only downfall is they are kinda slow, but they only have 2 people working, so as long as you call ahead (helps if you speak Spanish) your golden. On Saturdays on the other side of the store they have tamales for $1, rollo, or verde, and they also have corn on the cob. read more

Was really disappointed with this place. Expected some good and cheap Mexican food from a hole in the wall but got the opposite. They basically charge for everything an extra plate, to go box, or extra utensils are $0.25 each, even no free water. My steak fajitas cost $11.99 but portion is small and none of the Mexican flavor I know and love. My husband got a $7 chile rellano burrito which was super greasy and also bland. I have yet to shop in the store part so I can only review the taquiria (taco shop) part. I work in the Lafayette Square area for the past 9 years or so. I never realized how spoiled I was by the amount of great taquirias and hispanic restaurants in that area until I quit in November. I started working in Greenwood a couple of months ago and was shocked that I couldn't easily find good tacos. A friend recommended Morelos to me and I could not be happier. I've only had the Mollete (moy-et-ahs), Tacos Pastor and Asada Tacos but all were great! The tacos are traditional mexican street taco style wrapped in 2 corn tortillas overflowing with meat, topped with cilantro/onion blend and lime on the side. The Mollete is a piece of mexican bread with beans, cheese, chorizo and tooped with pico de gallo. The place is very clean and service was fast & friendly. If you find yourself on the southside looking for good authentic hispanic food this is the spot for you. read more

Just a one word review: "Wow!" To more fully explain, if you like tacos then you must check out Tienda Morelos. They are simply perfect. Double corn tortilla wrapped around a massive pile of wonderfully flavorful meat with some onion and cilantro on top. Top with either a mildly spicy verde salsa or with the slightly less amazing red sauce. They are cheap, perfectly made, and incredibly flavorful. You will be amazed! read more

Fun place to stop in for a quick lunch. The flavor of the pork was fantastic and it was very tender. I did however, find several pieces of chunky fat in the taco. It was a bit weird. The sauces they have for their tacos are excellent. I would definitely go back, but wouldn't say it is my favorite. read more
