    Mixed salad with chicken cutlet
    Sam R.

A huge fan of this Irish daily. Located in north riverdale 9; the bronx. Always packed and line to get food. The have a hot food buffet and changing their specials daily. Hot food is always fresh and huge portions. Their salad bar is nice and always fresh produce. My only concern with the salad bar is the portions being a bit bigger. By the time you add all the toppings it overpowers the salad. The chicken cutlet is always fresh and seasoned well. The sandwiches are a hit or miss. Sometimes they get a little skimp on the cold cuts but I'm always watching and telling them to put a little more lol. I always come here for lunch and staff is welcoming and friendly. My go to lunch spot when I need something quick and good. A strong sleeper are their pecan cookies. I always get one while I wait for my for food.

The ingredients Tierney uses is always fresh and delicious. I've had almost everything on their menu and was never unsatisfied. The quality of ingredients and food is on par with cafes you'd find in Manhattan, which is a rarity in the Bronx. You can get a good meal for a decent price, about $6-12. For me, that's not bad compared to prices you would have to pay in Manhattan. I highly recommend a Chicken Casear Salad, Grilled Chicken with Pesto, or Grilled Chicken Casear Wrap. They do casear stuff really well :) They also have to-die for desserts. The chocolate chip cookies are AMAZING when they're fresh. One complaint I have is that whenever I get them in the store, the cookies are always semi-hard. This is a major disappointment because most of the time, the cookies are soft when Tierneys caters so I expect the same quality when I go to the store. Other baked goods include small pecan or blueberry pies, tarts, peanut butter cookies, and croissants. I highly recommend Tierneys for your next lunch option. They also have excellent catering options.

Rory Dolan was very gracious and accommodating, rearranging tables to accommodate the group. We had a section in the upper dining area to ourselves. There's an extensive adult beverage menu, with of dozens of beers on tap and on ice, wines, and liquors. See photos. The food menu had the expected Irish fare; shepherds pie, salmon, corned beef, and cabbage, etc. There were some Italian inspired appetizers and mains, even Korean flavors. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted off the regular menu. Service was impeccable, the restaurant has an inviting ambience. I noticed there were a lot of "regulars" there this particular afternoon. I was deciding between the turkey salad and the Chicken Salad Ciabatta from the lunch specials and asked our server how the chicken salad was, She said it was her favorite and that it was a lot of people's go-to, so I decided to order that. Our food came out pretty quickly. We ordered the Heritage Nachos, Loaded Tater Tot Skillet, Philly Cheesesteak, and the Chicken Salad Ciabatta. The nachos weren't really for me (I didn't love the type of chips used), but the tots were good and my boyfriend liked his cheesesteak. I absolutely loved the chicken salad sandwich and fries. I get a little fixated on foods I like, so I had honestly been craving that sandwich ever since. 3/14 SECOND VISIT: I decided to come back on March 14 specifically hoping to order the chicken salad sandwich again. It was much busier due to St. Patrick's weekend,I was alone, I was seated in a booth in the back. I was given the dinner menu, so I asked the server about the chicken salad sandwich I had previously ordered. She didn't recognize the sandwich but offered to ask the kitchen after I showed her a photo and the menu from my previous visit. Unfortunately she came back and said they couldn't make it. She suggested a grilled chicken sandwich, but I declined since I'm not really a fan of grilled chicken. I ended up ordering the turkey sandwich and asked for a few modifications (no stuffing or cranberry mayo, just regular mayo on a ciabatta). When the food came out, I immediately knew it wasn't turkey. I waited until the server came back and asked her to confirm what meat was on the sandwich. She initially told me it was turkey. After taking it apart & having a few bites I knew it wasn't turkey. I winded up eating the fries and asking for the bill. I decided to show her the inside of the sandwich again and asked her to double check with the kitchen, she returned and confirmed it was actually ham, even though the ticket showed that she ordered turkey. She did offer to remake the sandwich, but it would have taken another 10-15 minutes and at that point I was already over it. I ended up just paying, and leaving. I completely understand that menus change and servers can't memorize every item. I just wish the sandwich had been confirmed with the kitchen sooner when I questioned it the first time. Overall, my first visit was great, and that chicken salad sandwich was honestly amazing. I just wish the second visit had gone a little smoother.

To make matters worse, one person in our group didn't receive his meal until everyone else had already finished eating. The owner stopped by and casually explained that this "sometimes happens on busy days," and offered us drinks for the inconvenience--but we were still charged for them at the end. When we brought this up to our server, she claimed she wasn't aware of the offer, and we ended up paying full price for everything. Overall, it was a frustrating and disappointing experience, with very poor customer service.

The food itself was decent, and we ended up ordering one of the brunch specials that included mimosas. We didn't dispute it with the waitress or staff, but it was definitely disappointing to see reflected on the bill. Another downside was the woman behind the bar, who didn't come across as very welcoming. I ordered mine, which you can choose how well it can be, medium with over-hard eggs which I also chose, and it came perfectly prepared with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomatoes along with bacon. Even before the main course, they start you off with a wonderful treat: a tray of bread and sweet raisin biscuits served with butter. Katie's Cottage is a very nice place to visit with a great atmosphere. I really liked the seating arrangement; they have a mix of comfortable padded seats and standard chairs, with larger tables that are very convenient for bigger families. They even have a bar area which adds to the variety of the space. The service was very nice and welcoming. As soon as we walked in, we were instantly served a tray of bread and sweet raisin biscuits with butter, which was a great touch! It is worth noting that the drinks and the food took a mediocre amount of time to come out, so it's a better spot for a relaxed meal. The menu is pretty short for breakfast, but the quality is high. I had the Breakfast Burger (ordered medium) with over-hard eggs, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. The fries were excellent--perfectly seasoned and nice and crispy. However, be careful with the drink "offer." Although we were told it came with a free Bloody Mary or Mimosa, we ended up being charged for them on the bill even after asking about it. The bathrooms were okay, though they only had cold water when I visited. Overall, it's a pleasant spot, but just be sure to double-check your bill at the end!
