Worst bartender service ever. Decent burgers . Don't drink tap beer ,they definitely don't clean the lines often . Nothing else to say .

Dive bar in Montclair NJ. Locals place, bartender sure wasn't very welcoming to a stranger walking in out of the cold.

I don't live in Montclair anymore but, when I did, I always loved draining a few pints and watching a football game at Tierney's. Classic laid-back bar with an island bar that allows everybody to check out everybody else. This could and should be one of your new haunts. read more

Love this dive bar. I stop in every time Im in montclair. They keep it real simple, a few beers on tap, drinks are nice and strong, and the price very well worth the drinks. It's cash only, but they have an ATM on site, or for those lucky PNC users, like myself, walk over to the PNC ATM at the quickchek next door to avoid any silly fees. I think a lot of newcomers/people not from the area might take the bartenders' and servers' rough exterior as mean or rude, but they're all nice on the inside :) never had an issue or had to wait an excessive long amount for a drink, even on busy friday/saturday nights. grab a pitcher if you dont wanna wait and be merry. read more

Drinks are pretty inexpensive and the bartenders are friendly. The only gripe I have about this place is that it gets ridiculously packed after a certain time, and its sometimes impossible to get near the bar, let alone finding a seat somewhere. Great place for yourself and maybe one or two friends, not so good if you're going with a whole bunch of people. read more

Went on St Patrick's Day place is dirty as hell. came to eat as a group and they say the kitchen is closed. -_- def not a restaurant. Only a bar. Not for kids at all even if with a family. Stumbled on this place on a Saturday afternoon, Meg had the grilled cheese , me the corned beef in rye . Food was amazing. Simple lunch menu with something for everyone. Bartender was great and attentive. Great atmosphere. You won't be disappointed . We will be back. read more

I was recomended to come here. I went on a pretty rough night (night before thanksgiving) but even so, the fundamentals are weak. Way too few bartenders on, practically impossible to get a drink. The place was PACKED. I have heard a lot of people say they were in a place they could barely move. This is that place. Downstairs was practically impossible to maneuver. When you go upstairs it was even more crowded and extremely warm. The crowd here is VERY young. Also, they dont take credit cards which is a big negetive for me. The prices were pretty high based on the place. Generally this is a dive bar, which i am fine with, but if I go to a dive bar, id rather it not be over crowded. Would not go back. read more

Maybe I just went on a really off night...but wasn't really lovin this place. The bar tender called last call at 11pm (huh?) and then proceded to pour OTHER people their drinks until 12:30 when we left....just really weird. I've given the place 2 chances now. The first time I walked in, one of the bartenders glares at me, a skinny kid who decided to wear the only sleeveless tshirt i own that night, and asks "do you have sleeves?" in my mind i'm thinking... does it look like i have sleeves? i say no for some reason and he just turns around and walks away. ok fine. maybe the bartender's having an off night. maybe he's dealt with one too many jersey shore freaks. i don't look like one of them at all, in fact I think i fit in with their normal crowd. i like dive bars. instead i walk to the office that night with my brother and have a few beers there instead. another night, i walk in with a friend and order a beer. the bartender pours it and it's got an unusually large head on it, so i ask for less head. he says "sure thing your highness" and if my friend hadn't already paid for the beer i would have just left. he was a total dick about it. i'm paying for a beer so in my mind i should get a beer, not 3/4 of one. he didn't exactly understand that so that's two strikes. i may give them one more strike because i live only a few blocks away, but i doubt it. in my experience the bartenders are total dicks and i really don't want to give them any more money. read more

Let me start by saying that Tierney's is great. I am genuinely shocked by some of the low reviews here, but I think a lot of people can't take this place for what it is. This isn't a gourmet dining establishment - just a dive bar that serves some pretty good food. If you go in with the right mindset, then I think it is tough to be disappointed. You walk in and the bar is smack in the middle of the place with tables lining the walls. The burgers here are very, very good. I am a fan. I do have one problem and it is that the burgers come with nothing on them. I don't know if it is against the rules to put lettuce and tomato on or what. Either way, they are still very good. The wings also come with no sauce????? This place would easily bump up to 4 stars if they put some toppings on their burgers and sauced up the wings. They also do not take credit cards, or at least not the most recent time I was there. Definitely a little bit of a drag. Overall, the burgers are still worth it, though. read more

My friend and I came here on a Monday afternoon, and it was packed! We waited about 30 minutes since we opted for the bar. If we decided to sit at the tables, it would've been longer. The food was ehh, okay - nothing spectacular - but it got the job done, since we were hungry. read more

Does anyone know that this place was a speak easy during prohibition? Well it was and the only updates it has had was an expansion, electrical upgrades and new employees, (That I know of). Well, here it is, if you are on your way to Tierney's I definitely recommend the afternoon, it is less busy. This is not a place to dine out people, except for corn beef rubens and burgers. Unless that's what your into. The one thing I love about Tierney's Tavern is the whole experience is ALWAYS consistent!! It's very good, not the best, but very good. This is a traditional IRISH bar, slow service. That is done that way for a reason, it is the same people always there all the time, that's why it never changes. Tierney's is a great place. The bar is definitely not a place to go for if your looking for a high end establishment. The place is full of great people and also a great burger. I always go there just to hang and have a few pints, for those that have been to Ireland you get the same feeling and sense of an Irish pub because the Pint of Guinness is fresh and the people are friendly. One should always be impressed by an American who speaks a second language...unless its "Surrender" otherwise known as French. I always knew the word "Garson" to mean 'Waiter' or 'Inn Keeper'. Mistakenly, I called the bartender "Garson." Apparently, it was the worst invective he'd ever heard. I was immediately corrected on what the word means ("Boy" if you're curious) and then was treated as if I screamed the n-word. I immediately apologized claiming ignorance. That was insufficient, apparently. Short, fat and balding, said bartender had pride and I wounded his immeasurably. My family fought in WWII and liberated France, one would hope that small act might absolve me of a misused colloquialism. Not in the temple of French affinity, aka Tierney's Tavern. Perfect Local Dive. Not a place I would eat at. In a sea of swanky north jersey bars in this area, Tierneys is a welcome change.

Best hamburgers in town. Love the atmosphere and it is kid friendly a joy. On the weekends they have a band and you never get bored.

Cool little dive bar. Great low key atmosphere and plenty of tv's. Burgers are really tasty too.

Not a lot on the menu but what they have is great quality bar food and suits me just fine. Live music and comedy make for great entertainment as well. Like you find in just about any town, Tierney's is a town institution...been going there since I was, errr, 17 (the drinking age was 18 back then so whatever). A great place to gather your buds from high school at the holidays... everyone knows how to get there and knows what to expect. Yeah, the bartenders can be grumpy--Irish guys are like that--and they see quite a bit of crazy drunk people and are typically pretty busy, so yeah, they can be grumpy alright. Maybe it's not such a bad thing that some people are put off by this. Might be even more mobbed... The cash thing... There's an ATM in the bar, so not quite such a big deal. With cash they don't have to worry about people cutting out on tabs, paying the merchant fees and all that crap. Keeps the profits good and the prices are reasonable. It ain't fancy, but you know you can get a good burger, you can dress like you want and you will probably run into a friend or two if you are from town.
