I've had some good experiences here before, but they really messed up my order tonight. I ordered a mild spicy soup with no cilantro, and got a very spicy soup with cilantro. Your experience will start as you navigate up and down Whitney Avenue in search of a coveted parking space. After we scored a spot, the experience continued as we walked inside and saw that you order from a touch screen kiosk, Ordering was challenging because the kiosk we used was heavy on Japanese and very light on English. Thank goodness they had some pretty good photographs of the choices. During our visit we noticed there was a second kiosk further back in the dining room, so maybe that one had more English on it? Once you get the screen going, you'll see that there are two main food groups for you to choose from - Hot Pot Style soups (you choose the broth and what goes in it) and sushi. Both groups had plenty of choices. We ordered from the sushi grouping. They offer 25 Maki Rolls and most of them are in the $5-$6 range so they are very reasonably priced. They also offer some two or three component combos of sushi/sashimi in a $15-$21 range. They also have five tempting fish topped rolls (Rainbow, Dragon, Volcano, Mountain Fuji and Tiger Daddy) for around $12 and a few salads and appetizers. You order everything from the touch screen. We ordered two Maki Rolls, a $5.95 Alaska Roll and a $6.50 Philadelphia Roll. Each had eight pieces that were super fresh and delicious. They were served with the customary wasabi and pickled ginger and there is a sauce bar up front for those who want more. Cute New Restaurant Right in the heart of all the Yale Action. Students, locals and other business people frequented this spot while I visited. Young and old. Free Wi-Fi. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was able to write down on the list to be part of the Yelp Elite event this week. I ordered and it took them about 10-15 mini to make my order. It was hot and fresh and so flavorful! The bok choy was so fresh, crab balls, and meat is cooked just right. I got the pork broth with a little spice.. So many different things that I've never had before. Whether you eat it with chop sticks or scoop up the soup, your taste buds will be a happy camper. Soft music in the back ground. Possibly need a sign where to place dishes and for the spice rack. Loved the Tiger Daddy designs / Graphics. Pictures show how cute this place is. Multi use spot. Extra napkins, spoons and chop sticks, Wi-Fi , trash and place to put your trays after you finish Also watched plenty of people place orders through their ordering screen and they were doing take out orders as well. I was excited to be able to try Tiger Daddy hot pot and New Haven. They are located right next to Whale Tea so it's a pretty great little spot. I went for one of the more classic combos. I really love that type of broth. I got medium spice, but would definitely kick it up next time. I wasn't sure what kind of spice level to expect. The spice was done with hot oil and I love hot oil. The noodles were excellent and the sushi was fresh. I loved the fish cakes that were in the hot pot. The restaurant has a cool energy to it. It's very casual but has a nice look about it. I was a big fan of my tiger friend in the back so of course that's where I had to sit. There's plenty of seating and it's very easy to do a pick up . They also had cases of drinks. I got the sparkling peach which I enjoyed while I was there and I took the coconut drink home. I'm mildly obsessed with it. The people were very kind and helpful. They wanted to make sure the experience was positive. This is definitely a place I will return! read more

Tiger Daddy has a wonderful selection of unique soups and sushi. The restaurant is clean and organized nicely. They also have a kiosk where you can order. It is helpful as some of the staff doesn't understand all aspects of the English language. I would like to suggest that the chef consider adding more vegetarian options. At long last, we have a Chinese hot pot spot in New Haven! With that said, I have some notes to share... General Notes: 1) Your hot pot is cooked to order - which means it is nice and fresh, but can take 10-20 min to prepare even if there is no line. 2) At the kiosk, you can swap between English & Chinese menus by clicking the buttons in the upper right (EN / 中) 3) They automatically put green onion and cilantro on top - add a note in your order or let the staff know if you don't want one of these toppings. 4) They didn't offer a ton of leafy green options, even missing classics like napa cabbage. Not sure if this is due to lack of demand, but it would have been nice to have more choices beyond bok choy. Notes if you are new to hot pot: 1) The ordering kiosk can be a bit overwhelming at first. But basically, you choose a broth, then keep scrolling to add in proteins, veggies, and carbs based on your preference. 2) If too many ingredients sound unfamiliar, they have 5 preset combo options that allow you to try a bunch of stuff and learn what you like. Notes if you are familiar with hot pot: 1) The hot pot is precooked in the kitchen, not served on a burner (even for dine in). Everything is served in takeout containers. 2) As far as I can tell, they don't offer dipping sauces either, it's just the ingredients + soup. I haven't quite been to a place like Tiger Daddy before! Their style of fast casual hot pot soups is pretty unique, and I enjoyed customizing my own bowl with beef and spam. They had a ton of seafood options to pick from as well, and broths for every spice level. Their sushi and tuna tartare were very fresh too! Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat while I killed some time. The place is very clean and had some authentic modern Japanese music playing. The ordering is all done by touchscreen in either English or Japanese. It was a little confusing at first, but you have to scroll up or down to get the full menu. The menu isn't very descriptive, as some rolls very from place to place so I wasn't too sure what was in mine until I ate it. There was a language barrier considering I don't speak Japanese, so the worker and I had to figure it out. Overall it was ok, I have no complaints. There were other people entering and exiting while I was there. I'd give it a 3.5 read more

would not recommend, if i could rate it 0 stars, I would. we went at 5:30pm on a Monday and after we ordered on the kiosk, they informed us it would be approximately 30 - 40 minutes for the food to be ready and so we sat and waited. After 40 minutes of waiting, they brought us the edamame, and we asked how much longer and they informed us it would be another 30 minutes and they had not even started on the rest of the food. We asked for a refund and they gave us a refund but you would think that they would start the food for people who were actively waiting inside the restaurant! read more
