I only gave 3 stars because the food was good. The service however, was an acquired taste. Service was extremely slow and unorganized. We waited damn near 1 hour for the tempura vegetables and brussel sprouts. I waited an additional 20 minutes for the udon noodles which I only ordered because they were out of the fried rice. Our server, who was very nice, told us three times that the food would be right out. This was not the case. I understand this was out of her control. We were presented with our bill that included something we did not order. The correction was made....only because we noticed the discrepancy. Maybe some of the establishments processes need to be restructured to result in a more efficient experience??? Excellent food and atmosphere. I came here on a Tuesday shortly after they opened and was seated immediately. The decorations and room layout made the restaurant feel quite classy. We took advantage of the happy hour and ordered the crab rangoons and chicken robata. The rangoons were fried beautifully and the filling was not too heavy. The chicken robata was also grilled well and was very juicy. the chutoro sashimi was fresh and felt on par to sushi from Japan! Between the TigerLily roll and the Sake Trio roll, I definitely preferred the TigerLily roll, but both were absolutely delicious. Lastly, the Yuzu Creme Brulee, with its crunchy caramelized surface contrasted with the perfectly tart custard inside, was the perfect end to a perfect meal! When you walk in you'll feel like you been placed in a chic, fancy and fun restaurant somewhere in Chicago or NYC! The waitress was great. She was attentive and helpful. Our plates were moved quickly and we weren't rushed at all. The food was great! We had two mocktails, the Nina tucker and Hisoka. The Hisoka was amazing, highly recommend getting this one. For food we had the chicken bao bun which was crispy and flavorful. We had the octopus skewer which was incredibly tender. The rolls I did not get a picture of but the tigerlily was much better than the Shiro machi. That one wasn't very flavorful and I was expecting better. Lastly we had the Okinawa cheesecake! We wanted to come back for the brunch, but we couldn't get in until now. We had reservations for weeks (reservations are a must). The brunch didn't disappoint! My daughter & I had the Brunch Bennies. This place is amazing for multiple reasons. When you first arrive you can tell it's a very hip place and very packed. We waited 30 mins for reservations just to sit at the bar, that's how packed it is. The Ambience was a little noisy but it gets drowned out by how great the food and drinks were. We ordered our drinks, I got the A5 Manhattan and she got the Ebiso. I tried her drink and it was very organic, it was quite tasting but it made me think I was eating a flower, a little funny but delicious. My A5 Manhattan was pretty good, I have had better in Las Vegas but let's get serious, it's Las Vegas, it almost tasted like it had a hint of beef broth which was peculiar but very good. A little small but still good. As far as food we ordered Miso Soups, Tigerlily roll, Shikotsu Roll, Yakima Meshi Rice & Noodles, Gyoza. Everything was truly amazing, the Miso Soup was handcrafted and very delicious, I didn't like the mushrooms so I gave them to my wife, I'm just not a Mushroom fan, but the seaweed tasted so good to the point I didn't want to stop chewing it. The Gyoza was so good, it was quite chunky and had lots of meat. The sushi rolls were VERY delicious, they were so good you didn't need soy sauce at all and the Shikotsu Roll had Bone Marrow Butter melted on to it. Those were the best Sushi Rolls I have ever had. Next came out the Yakima Meshi Rice &Noodles, it had a poached egg on top which once u mixed it into the noodles was truly delicious, these noodles were on another level, they had spice for them but not as spicy as I like it but this was more for elegance than heat which were still VERY delicious. The waitress we had was the GREATEST waitress I have ever had anywhere at ANY restaurant, she was amazing, helpful, and she was just very pleasant to be around. The ambiance was amazing! Super clean, stylish, and modern. Definitely a place to go when visiting or having a special night. The food was great and so was the service. We ordered some Sake and ended up not liking it and our server was able to get us one we liked right away with out another charge. I can't recommend TigerLily enough, this place is absolutely amazing. Michael is the absolute best waiter who made the experience that much more enjoyable. This place is lovely to go with a loved one or a group of friends. They have a really cool brunch menu + dinner. Parking is sometimes hard to find due to the nature of Ferndale, but not too bad at all. The interior is lovely and makes you feel like you've been transported to another country! From my understanding they get their fish shipped from Japan on Tuesdays!! The silverware was spotless, the dishes were all clean and beautifully presented. Absolutely loved this place and have already gone back twice! My husband loved the Wagyu sushi and just about everything else, but it's really nicely presented. The mushroom roll was also amazing, unlike any other mushroom roll I've ever had. My only complaint is that the hostess did not greet is when we walked in but just stared and it felt a little awkward since we couldn't tell if she was ready to help us or not... I feel like they should just ask something along the lines of "do you have a reservation..." rather than stare, but it's not a deal breaker. This happened with each visit until someone else took over the stand in the middle of the us being seated. This is an upscale sushi restaurant. They definitely don't have your traditional sushi you would normally see (California roll, Dragon roll). I would say they have more speciality sushi, like their on twist on it. Over all didn't love the food that much, it was okay. The apps taste better than the main sushi. Wow! Wow! Wow!! This spot is definitely worth a visit. I must say it just became my top favorite in Metro Detroit. From the moment you walk in you can feel the attention to detail to each bite of food. We ordered a Sake flight and a few apps to start. They were very small but surprisingly very filling and very flavorful. My favorite was the BURI app. It had the perfect balance of textures and excellent quality of fish. Second favorite was the Otoro Tartare which came with tiny seaweed sheets so you can eat it like a tiny bite. Which was fun to make. And lastly for a nice solid dish that felt like comfort food but also felt like an adventure was the rice dish YAKI MESHI. Mmmmm....it was so delicious! It was filled with mushrooms and so many other yummy ingredients which was fun to discover. We also caught a glimpse of the Speakeasy bar hidden inside so we had to stop by. It was super cute but the drinks didn't taste like they had much alcohol which was a bummer. The restaurant is a bit loud but not too bad. It was a bit difficult to hear our server but Willie still managed to give a perfect overall review of the menu and was very accommodating to my gluten allergy. There aren't GF markings on the menu which is my biggest criticism of their menu. The server had to go by memory on which dishes could be made GF. Which seems like more work for the staff, especially on a busy night. So if you have a gluten allergy, just know they will cook your meal individually and take allergies seriously which makes this place my top favorite in Ferndale! Go check them out!! read more

Loved this place and will be back soon! We went NYE with a group and sat in the omasake room (reserved ahead). We opted to order our own food but we could have done their food pairing. We loved everything and the service was 10/10. I got the tigerlily roll and the one with soft shell crab, and the bao buns. Loved everything! We ordered rounds of sake - we got the sparkling kind and it was actually really good. We had some other fun drinks and then headed through the door to Mai tiki bar. I walked into TigerLily Tuesday and was seated at the bar. The decoration and vibe is gorgeous inside. The sushi bar was adjacent to the bar, but I wished it was facing the sushi bar so I could watch them make the rolls. The 2 bartenders were very helpful, friendly, and gave great attentive service while I was there. I ordered 3 rolls - the infamous Shikotsu, Tigerlily, and the Gojo. I know the bone marrow in the Shikotsu roll was a draw for me to come here, as I was expecting a lot of flavor, but the roll had only cucumber on the inside with a thin layer of meat on top and some crispy toppings. The bone marrow I didn't see on the roll until I asked the bartender, and she offered to bring a bone out to do the famous flame-drip that you see on social media, but I declined as I wasn't too fussed about it. The Tigerlily roll was pretty good, but the Gojo roll was my favorite. I asked the bartender what she recommended and she said that one and I'm glad she did. It was citrusy from the lemon on top and had a very unique flavor from the other rolls, very palate cleansing and tasty. I was still hungry, so I ended up getting a Baby shiitake roll and it was warm and pretty good. I was happy they had mocktails as so many places don't, and the Nina Tucker was yummy. I'd probably come back and try the gyoza and a few other rolls that I've heard are good. They didn't have the Uni and I've always wanted to try it, plus there was an interesting roll called Yami Sukehiro that used the uni so if they ever have it, I'll be back! read more

This is something I don't see often anymore, and it goes a long way! We started the night with a few items off the charcoal menu. The shiitake skewer was to die for, and probably our favorite item we ordered. Such a beautiful texture and flavor with a touch of smokiness from the charcoals. Absolutely recommend trying this dish! We also went with a few rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The Tiger Lily roll was delicious. Tons of flavor but also a safe roll that everyone will love. We also went with the Mangekyou and Shikotsu rolls. This place recently opened up in Downtown Ferndale - I believe it's owned by the Hometown Restaurant group (which includes Public House, Betty's and Pop's). The atmosphere is super trendy, light and refreshing. Our server Boris was quick and attentive. He informed us that the restaurant overnight ships their fish from Japan, excluding the salmon. This might be one of the only Edomae style sushi restaurants in the Metro-Detroit area. Additionally, this is the only restaurant serving bluefin tuna in the area. Other notes are that the soy sauce is house made and the chef recommends tasting one bite of your roll prior to dipping in the soy sauce. I thought the soy sauce was delicious, and almost smokier than other traditional soy sauces. I know they offer omakase as well, which is a more rare experience to find in the Detroit area. To start, we ordered edamame and a miso soup. The edamame was perfectly cooked and seasoned with flaky sea salt. The miso soup was interesting - the tofu seemed to be house made, and settled in to the bottom of the bowl. The server poured the miso soup into the bowl and said to wait around 60 seconds for the tofu to adjust to the hot water. After a few minutes, I went in with my spoon and scraped it off the bottom, and then the tofu floated up to the shiitakes. The tofu and the mushrooms were delicious. However, the broth was incredibly salty, which took away from the soup. For rolls, we ordered the Salmon Avo roll, the Tigerlily roll and the Kani roll. The Salmon Avo roll was a good, simple roll. My sister got the Kani roll. It was the first roll we have ever tried that had a lemon aioli, which was delicious, light and creamy. She enjoyed her roll and said she would get it again. The Tigerlily roll was the showstopper. I would recommend getting this roll over any dish that we got - it was just that good. The ratio of ingredients were the perfect combination - Faroe Island salmon, cucumber negi, ikura, and tempura shrimp! I entirely recommend this roll, and will come back for it. For sashimi, we ordered the chutoro and salmon. They offered three different cuts of the bluefin tuna - our server recommended the chutoro out of the 3, which is the medium fat option. The fish was fresh and a good cut. The salmon sashimi took first place for me (but I'm a salmon girl and will be biased always). It was fresh and creamy. Overall, a great option to kick off the weekend. I think this restaurant is on brand with Ferndale's revamp into trendier concepts. The contemporary flavors, trendy dining area and refreshing vibe make it a must try for sushi lovers. read more

The interior and the ambiance is great. We are sushi lovers and we like all kinds of sushi, but this place's sushi was kind of disappointing. I tried to like the two speciality rolls we got but we were no crazy about them. What we did LOVE though were the appetizers. My top 3 are pictured below and I can honestly say I had the freshest piece of salmon sashimi here. The Gyoza, the spicy shrimp, and the salmon sashimi were beyond amazing. We stopped by for brunch and as the sushi menu wasn't as extensive as it is for dinner I ended up getting lobster omelette. It's not cheap but it was delicious and looked picture perfect as well. Shrimp tacos that my friends ordered also looked amazing but they said it could have been better. The jury is still out so will definitely check this place out again for dinner.
