Went to Shun ramen on a Wednesday for dinner with friends. We got some appetizers which were all pretty yummy. Edamame could use some seasonings though. I'm not a huge sushi person but the spicy tuna was really good! I liked it a lot. Pork tonkatsu ramen was delicious and filling. I think I'd prefer my pork in a little different form, maybe more of a whole piece, but the broth was delicious and the noodles were tender and flavorful. Bright and clean inside. They offer many teas and coffee there as well. Service was attentive. Smaller on the inside. Overall, had a good time and I'll have to come back and try different ramens. read more

Some of the best tonkotsu broth I have ever had, seriously SO good. Flavorful and creamy and perfect. Chashu was not as fatty as I would've liked and was a bit dry IMO. I love finding local gems like this ramen that hit the spot during my work trip! Noodles were so chewy and the broth was flavorful, just a tad salty. I added some bok choy and it was perfect. Not busy so we had plenty of space, and no one seated next to us- they have a lot of seating! We were greeted and seated right away. We only got the Spicy Tonkotsu and Tantanmen ramen. There is a generous amount of meat in each bowl but I definitely felt like I was missing veggies (like bean sprouts, greenery, etc). I would love to order this for takeout and then add more vegetables to balance out the salty broth. Ps Spicy Tonkotsu was not really spicy at all for me. But it has a lot of flavor so it doesn't necessarily need more spice (I just like more spicy in general). I would come back and try the vegan ramen (more veggies in that one). This is THE spot for ramen! From the curry crockets, to the bao buns everything was absolutely amazing. The ramen.... Man the noodles, the broth, the meat... all a perfect ratio and cooked to perfection. To top it off it's a small owned business with the small children helping out! What else can you ask for? I visited this past Thursday evening with four family members, and to our surprise, the place was packed despite its small size. There aren't many tables--just a few high-tops seating 7-8, some bar seating, and a regular table for 4. With a couple of parties ahead of us, we were fortunate to only wait about 15 minutes to be seated. TONKOTSU RAMEN - 16 The ramen barely filled up half the bowl. Since the broth wasn't too hot, I wolfed down the whole thing in less than 5 minutes. As for the toppings, it was a bit sparse -- just some pork char siu (to be fair, there were quite a few pieces), a sprinkle of chopped scallions, and half a ramen egg (which was nothing special). The broth was extremely creamy, flavorful and rich. I could definitely taste the lard used to achieve this velvety texture. In terms of taste, it's the best ramen broth I've had in the area. The ramen noodles were the straight noodles, which I prefer. While the flavors were bold and explosive, the amount of lard in the broth felt over the top and could have been dialed back immensely. My cousin got the TANTANMEN, which came with a spicy, sesame broth that was delicious and very rich. My uncle really enjoyed the SHOYU RAMEN, with a chicken based broth, and he enjoyed it so much that he left zero drops behind. Overall, Shun Ramen has no frills, with a vibe that feels like a Chinese restaurant converted into a ramen shop. The ramen here is quite tasty, but I would not recommend it for the health-conscious. read more

Been here at least twice now and it's a OK ramen spot. I love that it's a father son operation but some of the family-operated charm means there's a hole-in-the-wall vibe and lack of polish you'd expect from a true restaurant. I will say the flavors here are solid and taste authentic. We've had the shoyu, tonkotsu, and spicy tonkotsu and the broth is always flavorful. The noodles are probably sun-brand premade ramen noodles which are fairly standard ramen noodles and they cook them to the right doneness. My main gripe here is that the default toppings are bare-bones and sometimes the chashu pork comes out dry like it was over-cooked (see pic below). Other ramen places i've been to include bamboo shoots, nori, mushrooms, uzumaki slices, etc which makes a plain bowl here looks pretty sad. I think you'll enjoy a quick bite here especially as a lunch or something but I wouldn't come here expect it to be the ramen haven of the midwest. The restaurant, service, and ingredients are far from five star quality although they're not bad by any means. I would recommend giving this place a try but with the appropriate expectations. read more

When tell you this place just feels like home and you can taste the love in the food. It's a tiny restaurant with maybe 20 seats overall. The staff is basically family and you're sitting likely with other people cafeteria style. The food came out so fast and is such a good deal! The spam masubi was a huge hit, the spam was HUGE! Definitely didn't skimp out on that one. The tonkotsu was definitely the star of the night, it's soooo creamy and flavorful. 10/10 I would 100% some back here. It made me question food safety with the way food was laid out. They also had a grocery store reach in bin without a lid in the front of the restaurant that looked like personal food items of the employees were stored. Very bizarre. Have heard nothing but rave reviews of this father + son run ramen shop and boy did they deliver in helping to fight off the Sunday scaries! Unlike other reviews, I found the portions here large (we left stuffed and could not finish all our food). For my tonkotsu, it was a hefty serving of noodles and pork compared to any other ramen place I've been to. While the toppings are minimal (egg + green onion), I really didn't feel I was missing the extras you may get at other places. It was simple and minimal and honestly does not require more. The broth is divine on its own and I would happily drink it by itself as it is so flavorful. My friend and I also tried the karaage chicken and the Detroit roll - both also good and didn't miss. Service was quick and attentive. For a small shop, they were truly efficient and had great customer service. A must try! We will be back. read more

I had such high hopes for this place, and felt that it could've been so much better. I've heard a few good things and decided to stop in today to check it out. Walking in, the place was smaller than I'd anticipated. I was aggressively greeted by a nice man who was more than happy to help me. He seated me by the window since it was just me, offered me a drink and handed me a menu. The front is their Ramen dishes, and the back is sushi. I was here for the Ramen, so I didn't even check out the back part since I didn't want the sushi. Prices were all around the $18 mark and most had pork broth. I don't do pork, which is fine, so that left me one or two beef broth dishes and maybe a vegetarian one as well. I did add an egg to the beef broth one which came with meat, bok choy, lots of noodles and some other seasonings as well. Mind you, I don't consider myself a Ramen guru, but have had enough to know what I like. I found the broth here to be on the saltier end, which I didn't love especially towards the end of the dish. The beef tasted a bit over cooked and more "well done" with a chewy texture to it. Maybe it was over cooked? I don't know, I can't say for sure. Noodles were okay, but on the more difficult end to break apart when eating, so I was constantly having to use my chopsticks to break them up. Were they good? yes. This place isn't a bust, I just expected more especially from the price point. Good Ramen isn't cheap, and I've had better for the same price with a lot less salty taste to it. Not the best ramen out there, thus, this will never be more than 3 stars. Price point aside, there's TONS of other places (IMA down the street, HINT HINT) that will give to MUCH better Raman at about the same price in a much more aesthetically pleasing environment. What a cute little shop! High tables with metal chairs for seating, lots of ambient light. Came in for a quick lunch and the speed with which food came out was fantastic. Staff was friendly, efficient and kind. We ordered Spicy Tonkotsu and a plain Tonkotsu, a Detroit roll and two ginger salads. Salads came first, and sushi roll very quickly after. Salad was exactly what you would expect, iceberg lettuce and ginger dressing, fresh and well sized. The Detroit roll was really delicious, the shrimp on the roll was very fresh and flavorful, and a good size. The Ramen was delicious! Great flavor on the pork broth on both bowls, and egg in the dish was perfectly cooked! Definitely had leftovers but kept going back for a spin of broth anyway! Beverages were on display in a cooler, mostly ramune, canned coffee, tea and pocari sweat. They did have the glass bottle Coke and cans of Diet Coke as well. Water was served with the meal, was cold with no ice. This place is a treasure! Will stop by when I'm back in town! read more

Until recently, Shun Ramen was a small space, with a limited, excellent food menu, but they have expanded into the storefront next door and now have freshly made teas and desserts. My go to is the spicy tonkotsu ramen; it is rich and flavorful, and I love the texture of the noodles. I swap the meat for the smoked charsiu and it is incredible. Plus, it comes with a perfectly jammy egg, every time. The appetizers i've had are amazing, and the sushi looks incredible. Was visiting family in Michigan and decided to try out this new Ramen/Sushi place. The place is relatively small but it's very clean. We ended up having the ramen tonkotsu. The pieces of Chashu were absolutely delicious but the stand out was the broth and the hand made ramen noodles. The broth itself was thick and tasted really rich. It went well with the chewy noodles that they had and of course the egg was delicious (not overcooked and still yokey). We also tried out some of their rolls. The eel, tuna and shrimp tempura rolls were great, but the thing that I noticed the most was the fact that it wasn't excessively made with thick layers of rice. There was a thin layer of rice for every roll which really made it so that it wasn't heavy feeling and you got to taste the other ingredients way more. Overall, I would definitely recommend coming here if you're looking to try out ramen and sushi, especially the tonkotsu/ramen combo. read more

I do agree with some of the other posts that the interior could use some sprucing up and maybe better organizing but the food made up for that. We had the Spicy Tonkotsu with Smoked Charsiu & Taiwanese Style Beef. Both had great depth of flavor from their broth although I think I liked the Taiwanese just a smidge more. The noodles were very good, I believe they were from scratch and better than some other ramen I have had. Also really liked the wooden soup spoons, that were a nice touch from the traditional spoons you usually get. The service was great, they were very attentive and the ramen came out quick. I also got the curry to go which I think was my least favorite of the 3. It was on a blander side than other curry dishes I have had in the past.
