This was my spot for Al Pastor in the Pomona area. I used to roam around here pretty often back when I was in school in the area but I still enjoy stopping by to fill up the stomach with some great Mexican food. The quality is on point and has not changed throughout the years that I have been coming here. Anything with Al Pastor is amazing here. The Quesadilla is my personal favorite. The meat is perfectly charred on the vertical broiler. There's no better way to cook Al Pastor IMO. Hit and miss place with service and food. So lately there food has been consistent. My food order has been wrong half the time. But I ride with it. The location is a real hole in the wall. They have remodeled it since it 1st opening doors. Has small tables inside and outside to eat. They try there best to keep the place clean, but since its always busy it's not, or maybe they do not clean enough. You will also get lots of homeless come up to you. I like to order Vampiros which are tostada taco. My favorite meat is Al Pastor. I will on occasion order Asada. But I prefer Al Pastor there. They have bomb beans called charro beans, which have bacon and some other yummy stuff. The marinated onions are also my favorite. Will fill up a cup with half onions & half beans add lemon. Sometimes I'll ask for tostadas to eat with the beans & onions. My favorite taco is Taco California. I love the cheese and California chile on it. My boyfriend and I came here on a random Monday at around 11am and let me tell you, this place got packed real quick. Although there was a line (literally out the door) we didn't quite understand the hype. So let's start with what we ordered- 2 tacos de tripa, 1 de asada and a burrito de asada (pura carne). The tacos de tripa were very tasty but I had already been craving these for a while and ultimately they were the only thing we agreed were good. The tacos are not bad! But in comparison to other taco shops "estilo Tijuana" that we have tried, this place is nowhere near our top 5. The carne asada has a lot of nerve and fatty pieces. Frankly, we don't enjoy asada that is not "clean" but I know there are some people who enjoy having the nerves and fatty pieces in there tacos and burritos. The salsa bar has great options if you don't like spicy (which I don't) but if you are like my boyfriend who LOVES spicy salsas, then you might need to get your own. Overall, this place is not bad but there are a few other tacos stands that I would rather drive to before visiting this place. I think this place has the best taco within 15 miles of where I live (San Dimas). Their tacos are on the greasy side but delicious. Once a while it is ok:) I had cabeza and lengua tacos($1.45 each) for the first time and both were good and meat was not overcooked. 2nd time I decided to try their specialty taco, Taco loco and Chile taco. ($2.79 each) After placing my order, the lady at the cashier was very nice offering me free drink of any choice. I guess it was because the wait was really long on that night so everyone got free drink. I like taco loco but Chile taco was too greasy for my liking (melted cheese on top of chile). When I got home, the oil had drained the whole tortillas so It was too soft to pick up I ended have to eat with forks. There are few things that keep me from coming here more often: The wait is long (20-30 mins just for taco) and this place is always packed. They call the order number in Spanish so if you don't know Spanish you might need to figure out or find help. People there are very nice though. I happened to have a nice old gentleman helped me when my number got called...but I ended listen to him talking for another 15+ mins after I got my order and he got his order (6 more numbers after mine) and another 5+ mins after we both got our order. So it totally took me a hour to get my to-go order to go and I was starving. I parked on the Holt ave since their parking lot is small. It seems to be an ok neighborhood to me. I love restaurants that have simple names that describe their food without all the foo-foo bullshit. That is why I love places like Mini-Kabob in Glendale and the Burger Joint in New York. I mean, you know what you are going to get. And you see, Tijuana's Tacos keeps it simple by making tacos the way they look and taste in Tijuana. I remember the days of my drunken youth getting fucking hammered in Tijuana at Papas & Beer and staggering around the streets shitfaced while fulfilling my alcohol munchies by eating tacos from the local street vendors. While most of my memories from those days are hazy, the thing I remember most of the tacos in Tijuana was that there was this mysterious guacamole-like sauce. Up until I went to Tijuana's Tacos in Pomona, the closest sauce I could find to the magical Tijuana guacamole was the stuff at El Pollo Loco. But the minute I tasted my tacos from Tijuana's Tacos, I swear I almost shed a tear. I had found the most authentic Tijuana-style taco this side of the border. Being on a diet, I decided to maximize my caloric intake by getting three different tacos. I ordered one al pastor, one carne asada, and one special taco called the chile taco. The regular tacos are your normal sized double tortilla tacos that you find at most respectable taco joints. With these tacos, for about $1.45 you sure get your money's worth in meat and fillings that are topped with the delightful guacamole sauce. I liked the al pastor because it was marinated well and had nicely burned edges. On the other hand, the carne asada tasted okay, but I was able to overlook the mediocrity of the carne asada because the guacamole topping was so damn good. As for the chile taco, my oh my was this a beautiful fucking taco! Although it is a little more expensive than a regular taco at $2.79, this special taco was worth every penny. It's served on a single tortilla that is slightly bigger than the regular taco. It consists of a freshly halved chile (I believe it was a chile relleno or chile poblano) that is stuffed with cheese served atop a mix of carne asada and chorizo. The chile was amazing, but what really blew me away was the idea to mix carne asada with chorizo. The resulting flavor profile of beef and pork was pure fucking genius! In addition to the tacos, I loved the salsa bar and the free beans. They had six different salsas including two different salsa verdes, pickled jalapeños, sliced radishes, sliced cucumbers, beans, and lime wedges. But the best sides were the free grilled onions, grilled jalapeño and grilled cactus (nopales) that they give you wrapped in foil. I've never had grilled cactus, but it has to be one of my newest favorite foods in the world. In fact, the cactus tasted pickled, and reminded me of a daikon radish. My lunch at Tijuana's Tacos was absolutely satisfying. In fact, the last time I was this happy and satisfied after a taco meal was when I finished eating at Guisado's. It is a fucking shame that they are only located in Pomono, Ontario, and the Inland Empire. They need to open one up in Los Angeles immediately because it's going to be hard for me to come up with reasons to leave the office and go to Pomona. The cook carved the meat off the large rotisserie [authentic!] and re-sauteed the pastor on the grill. The tacos come decently sized, fresh, warm and ready to eat. The meat was tender in the inside yet crispy on the outside. The tacos packed a lot of taste with the combination of the meat, flavorful green guacamole and salsa. Came here around 9pm on a Wednesday night & there was still a decent line in progress. Total time ordering to food coming out took around 15-20 minutes. I'd say the main highlight of this place is how cheap the food is. I ordered the regular burrito - which also gives you a pretty large of meat including carne asada, pastor, chicken, etc. Turned out to be around $7 & it was pretty big too, easily enough to fill one person, & although it wasn't amazing, it was still good. There's also a salsa bar with your typical green & red sauces + some veggies you can utilize to spice up your food. The interior of the restaurant is quite small so you'll probably be better off eating outside at the tables like we did. But while we were eating at the tables outside, we were approached a few times by a couple of homeless people. They didn't really bother or heckle us or anything, but it's still not a great environment to be in while you're trying to eat. Keep in mind this was also at night. My beans had bacon, ground beef, pork, hot dog and what I think was a small amount of chorizo but I cant be sure. It is so good, like mom made. This place is infested with ROACHES. Came here last night, placed my order and waited outside. they had both doors to the restaurant propped open and out of the corner of my eye I seen something move. It was a small brown roach. It was crawling between the floor and the counter I think the cashier caught me looking because no sooner she came out with a mop and started mopping the area I was starring at she was not bothered by the roach and seemed to push it away back into the counter area.
