The food was worse than the food you would get in East Texas at the various one-and-only-one Indian restaurants that many East Texas cities actually have. Suddenly, in 2025, free markets actually worked the way economists say they do, and enterprising Indian restauranteurs showed up to service this enormous market. Flowers and banners came down from heaven and the music of flutes and lyres filled the air. * * * The Monk is the most recent addition to this healthy market correction. I can not speak about the earlier rescue arrivals. However, The Monk has long had a reputation in Houston as being an absolutely first rate chain. When I was visiting Cy-Fair, a knowledgeable local informant told me that the Monk was the best food I would get in Cy-Fair in ANY format. While I can't speak for the entire range of the competition (the Houston burbs having some formidable Mediterranean and Vietnamese), The Monk was everything advertised. I was completely impressed. * * * The Monk in College Station is just as impressive as are the Monks in their Houston city of origin. The actual details of what I ate don't really matter. I have never had a bad dish in any Monk. (Okay - except for the salty Lassi. Skip that one.) The decades of Indian food deprivation (at least in BCS) are over. Eat here in confidence.

We all ordered at the same time, but the food came out extremely slowly. 45 minutes passed before my friend's food came out, so we couldn't even enjoy the food together. The food itself was decent, but my stomach hurt after I ate, which could be because I ordered the chicken fry biryani at a medium spice level.
