Americanized Indian Food. I was disappointed in the food. The service was fast and the restaurant had a really nice contemporary ambiance, however I cannot say the same about the Tikka Masala. My initial thought when I first tasted the dish was Campbell's Soup canned Spagetti-Os. Tikka Masala is known for being a very complex, yet simple dish of aromatic spices and flavors; it lacked in all areas of flavor. Has a lot of potential, but needs to capitalize on the main dishes. So, Tikka Shack is currently open for their soft opening and will have a grand opening on Monday, April 18th. I have no idea what's wrong with the first reviewer for this place. The food is SO GOOD and flavorful. Not to mention, the interior of this place is gorgeous. It's full of light and very roomy, the tiling, chairs, and tables are all lovely. Story time, for my visit! I went in and did a To Go order. I ordered Samosas, Paneer 65 (fried cheese), Lamb Curry, and Shack Naan (quick note, the difference between Shack Naan and the other naan options is Shack naan is garlic naan with cheese on top). The staff was pretty busy as they're still being trained, so service was a little slow, but I kind of was expecting that since I didn't call ahead and there was already a line forming. They're really awesome, though, and everyone was super sweet and polite. When I got back to work and looked at my food, I had my Samosa, the CHICKEN 65, Lamb Curry, and no naan... I was a little bothered because my naan :( but I tried a bite of the chicken 65, not super spicy but very pleasant, moist, and tender, so I wasn't upset at all. I called to let them know what had happened and they gave me a full refund! I kept telling them, "Nonono, the food is FINE, you don't need to refund me!" but they insisted. The lamb curry was wonderfully spicy and everything I wanted from lamb curry. The samosas were delicious as well! I was hoping so much for pakorra to be available, but this is a fine substitute and it's so delicious. I absolutely plan on a return visit, not only because the food is SO good, but the service was wonderful and kind. I'm only upset now because I want them to keep my money so that the business stays open! They're so awesome! I like action films and I like Indian Food. This place is like going to see an action film and then finding out the lead role is played by Kirk Cameron. Everything looks like Indian food I have had before but tastes a bit weird. I got the chicken Tikka Masala and it had this odd sweetness that was not anything I had experienced with that type of dish. Much like Kirk Cameron talking about his "message" rather than slaying punks like a good Sly Stallone. There is nothing wrong with this place but it feels like what Southwest Lubbock thinks Indian food is. I am still on a search for something a bit more of what I had in the past. Side note: The last watchable Kirk Cameron film was "Like Father Like Son" the body-switch comedy with Dudley Moore in 1987. Two broken samosa with dull veggies only? Seriously? Ask me how to make chat. Goat curry had 2-3 pieces of meat. LMAO Naan was too small of a size compared to real Naan. One more thing. What a delicious "fast casual" Indian place for Lubbock with cool vibes. I will definitely come back for their naan alone. From the get-go, everything in Tikka Shack is well-designed and well organized. The layout has a clean, urban vibe; the menu is really clear. You order at the counter, given a number, and take a seat for one of the staff to bring your hot food out. We ordered the samosa (starter that's "a savory, veggie-loaded pastry with a crispy crust"), lamb biryani, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and shack naan ("traditional flatbread, brushed with butter and sprinkled with mozzarella and fresh cilantro", i.e. DELICIOUS) - all for about $23! There was plenty of food. So much that we each took home half our meals and ate it for lunch the next day. Plus, it was really, really good and very satisfying. I was surprised that the food turned out better than several other Indian places I've been to in the area. Also, be careful if you look at the pictures on their website like I did before we went. You'll want to order one of each. But you also might as well order one of everything because yolo. One suggestion for patrons: ask spiciness level at the register! I prefer spicy and generally get vindaloo at Indian restaurants, but it (along with other items that say "spicy" in the description) didn't have an at-a-glance indicator on the menu. Initially, nobody responded. So, I thought they are closed. In the meanwhile, got a call back from the tikka shack management. They were very friendly, warm and welcoming. Helped us with food selection. The food was awesome. Their mango lassi, chicken tikka masala, chicken 65, spinach paneer masala are worth trying. Fast casual restaurant concept takes shape in Indian cuisine! This place once it opened was quite busy. The food is wonderful. BUTTER CHICKEN was wonderfully rich and smooth with that beautiful golden turmeric color. The BIRYANI was devoured by my kids. People working there are really sweet and the service was fast too. I waited like 15 mins after my order and the food is all there. Now getting to food. I ordered chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. My friends ordered paneer butter masala with naan, chicken 65 and chicken biryani. Everything is served with side of basmati rice. My chicken tikka masala was sweet but yummy and the garlic naan was dry. Paneer butter masala is really good of all that we ordered, It tasted just as it's supposed to taste. I love chicken biryani, but the biryani here is not very appealing to my Hyderabadi pallet. It's very mild and tasteless. Chicken 65 is good, I'm surprised they served appetizer with side of rice. Food portions are good for the price, it's more than filling. I loved there to go bowls. Finally the verdict: It's not a very great place to go if you want to try authentic Indian food, they got the taste right but I had problem with the spice level. When I first went to tikka shack one year ago the service was fast likely due to them just opening up. Today I waited close to one hour for one entrée and an appetizer. Their staff looked very disorganized and overwhelmed. Multiple online orders were going on in there-close to 12 to 15 receipts at one point piling up. Our order was done incorrectly so we asked them to fix it. We waited an extra 15 minutes for the missing naan-bread. The front desk workers didn't seem to care at the pace the restaurant was moving. There are multiple other people waiting for their orders. Probably recommend ordering an hour or two in advance if you need pick up. I think it'll be very beneficial for them to hire more workers and have a better organized system to make the orders correct for the first time and not duplicate multiple steps and get things out in a timely manner. read more

The Tikka shack ran a promotion where they offered 50% off of one entree. They emailed the coupon to you for signing up for their email club. When we went to use the coupon they said that there were too many people sharing it and so they wouldn't honor it at all. It was a real bait and switch. There were no signs on the door, no notices, nothing. You just going through the line, get your meal, get to the register and they won't honor the coupon. Bad business. Think of Tikka Shack as the Pei Wei of Indian food. You don't go to Pei Wei to order authentic pad thai or real japanese sushi rolls, you go there to get the Pei Wei version of the dishes. The same goes with Tikka Shack. Although the food tastes excellent, don't expect to get the same flavor as you would in that hole in the wall authentic indian palace in a big city.
