This place was super clean and had excellent customer service. I was greeted immediately and offered several suggestions by the nice woman at the register. I've eaten Indian food many times and felt like it was a good quick meal with a fairly traditional taste. I was a bit surprised to see steak on the menu but I guess that's what happens when you bring India to Texas. Great quick alternative to what most "fast food" places offer around here. Food prices are reasonable. Have tried Tikka Chicken skewers w/ basmati rice and small side masala sauce. The skewers were dry, burned and had I not received masala sauce, this dish would have been inedible. There was a mango, lettuce, tomato & onion salad served w/ it & it was delightful ! The naan bread has many reasons not to order or eat ranging from tasteless to over floured catastrophe. Best dish, by far, is the Chicken Tikka Masala w/ basmati rice & naan. Flavorful masala sauce, small chucks chicken succulent/basmati rice and that dreadful naan bread only $7 before 4pm.. Just say, "No" to the naan! Worth a try and not a budget breaker! read more

We went early for lunch to beat the crowd and we're glad cause it got busy. Other reviewers are spot on about the long wait times, it took forever and 3-5 guest who ordered after us received their food before us. The food itself was pretty good, obviously toned down to please American Palettes. My only complaint was the Naan, and I was most looking forward to it. It was NOT anything like what naan is supposed to be, tasted like raw flour, even the garlic naan was flavorless. I actually ordered an extra naan and only ate a few bites of the one it came with and tossed the other. Great, quick indian food! One of my favorite go-to spots since moving here to Lubbock! If you are new to indian cuisine, but would like to try, I recommend the chicken Tikka fries. This gives you the taste on something you are familiar with. The chicken biryani is wonderful, rice is most and soft! Naan is so good, and compliments meals nicely. After waiting for a good modern Indian food place to open up my wife and I have finally found our nirvana in the Tikka Shack. Their lamb Tikka Masala is excellent. Its very buttery and has a little spice to it. My wife got the Chicken 65. It is the red sauce has a sticky texture but it tastes heavenly. It's a little spicy and has a slight crunch to it which is great for texture people. The naan is outstanding. The service has always been prompt and friendly even when busy. They were very helpful and patient when my wife couldn't choose. It's also a great atmosphere beautiful exposed brick wall and herringbone pattern tiles is a nice touch. Soap Box Review with information explaining my 5 star rating. In reference to several reviewers, but especially Brain B's review. The food here is not 'bad' by any means and it certainly doesn't "suck butt" as one reviewer from a "metropolitan area" where they have "real Indian" food puts it. This 'educated' metropolitan person is apparently comparing a fast food restaurant to a full service "real food" restaurant. That's just silly. Would we compare Perini's Ranch's steak in Buffalo Gap to any fast food restaurant? (https://store.periniranch.com/) Or Bonnell's in Fort Worth to any fast food restaurant? (http://bonnellstexas.com/) No! They are not in the same class; you would think this was fairly obvious, especially to someone from a "metropolitan area". After all, a fast food restaurant is not meant to be in the same class as the two above. So, when we do rank a fast food Indian restaurant we need to take ideas like this one posed into account. For you metro guys this means don't compare a fast food restaurant to a full service one. Compare like to like. Don't be as ignorant about philosophizing about restaurants as my "metropolitan" friend. Further knowledge about Indian food, and how it's made, would shed some light on why a fast food Indian restaurant is a near impossibility and, at the very least, a difficult endeavor. Some of the Indian dishes on a common Indian menu, when properly prepared, can't be classed in the standard American fast food store because of the equipment required and the expertise required to operate them. Think Tandoori oven for instance. Now the oven itself is not as much of a problem as the operation thereof. e.g. You can get anyone off the street and make them successful on a McDonald's food line, but you can not take just anyone off the street and make them successful operating a Tandoori oven. Several classic Indian dishes utilize this oven to create the wonderful flavors we all love in Indian food. The Tikka Shack restauranteur went out on a limb here knowing the difficulties a fast food Indian restaurant faces and still subjected himself to people with ignorant reviews like my metro friend. I expect that our restauranteur knows Lubbock needs an Indian Restaurant. He also knows Lubbock has done a poor job of supporting these full service "real food" Indian restaurants. Yet he is trying to serve the Lubbock area with a choice to enjoy the Indian flavors we love. So now my honest review. In reality it probably deserves a full 5 stars. Now to be clear, Tikka Shack is not perfect. In fact you will see in my other reviews that I despise Peak iced tea. And I have complained to management about the tea and rarely go to Tikka because of this Peak Tea. (I only go about once a month or less since they opened; about 10 trips in all.) You see, it is difficult to compare Tikka to another fast food Indian restaurant because there just aren't that many out there. So, until we have another fast Indian food to compare it with then Tikka kind of becomes a baseline. If another opens and it is better then naturally Tikka's rating would slide to 4 stars and the new one would become the 5 star. One more point to support my 5 star review is that the one or two Indian fast food restaurants I have tried in various metro areas around the USA are not as good as Tikka Shack in my opinion. The two I have in mind would rank a 3 star and a 4 star leaving Tikka Shack with a 5 star review rating. (I know this review is pro Tikka Shack, and to be clear I have no dog in the fight; I do not even know the restauranteur. Perhaps more than a pro Tikka Shack review it is meant to shed light on the philosophies concerning more appropriate restaurant reviews, even if we are only lowly Lubbockites.) read more

I know this place isn't for authenticity, but overall the food was just okay. Our food wasn't hot... it was warm? And it's literally just tikka masala and rice in a chipotle looking bowl. Also... the price is high for how much food you get. ALSOOOO not enough chicken. I mean come on.. the bowl is already small enough. Can't I get some more protein? My boyfriend's and my bowl both had like 4-5 small chunks of chicken. Ate here a few weeks ago and we loved it! My husband and I were on a lunch date before I had to go to work, and we just stopped here on a whim.
