This Broadway business in Kingston gets its name from the Spanish punctuation mark known as a tilda--the squiggly line--called virgulilla in Spanish. So from the get-go you sort of know that you're in for an experience. There are many breakfast options, including eggs, quesadillas and meat pies. The lunch specials included a chicken curry and rice dish. I picked a shrimp and bean wrap which was very good, but a bit pricey at $15. The displays are an eclectic mix of local honey, hemp products, pottery, seeds, vintage and second hand items. Instead of tipping the staff, customers are asked to place cash in a donation jar to help local charities. Likewise, donations are requested in exchange for vegetables sourced from local farms. The store also has a bright orange bicycle rickshaw out front that can deliver you to your parked car or nearby home for free. Since I was parked right outside, I declined an offer of a free ride. It is a unique store which the staff described as a collaboration of a number of businesses. I've noticed it for years but this was the first time I've set foot through the door. We ordered a hamburger plate medium-well and about 3 bites in, the meat was raw and red. We brought it back to the counter and asked if they could cook it a bit longer. They insisted on making an entirely new burger. We waited about 25 minutes and this time the burger was so well done it was like a brick! I have had two items from Tilda's and both were FABULOUS!!! The Sammy breakfast sandwich (I believe was name) and the beef empanadas. I ordered delivery, so cannot comment on the ambiance. Also, if the food is good, the service usually follows suit. read more

Wow, what a gem of a place! So tasty! I have food allergies and they took the time to really listen to the foods I can't eat, and made my wrap exactly perfect. And so flavorful, with fresh herbs and veggies. It felt like visiting your favorite uncle, cooking just for you. And bonus is they are a nonprofit, aiming to abolish food insecurity locally. What a go to spot! I just went in to check out the menu and watched them preparing all the food using the fresh herbs from outside the building and spoke with them about all they give to the community. What a God inspired man who operates it along with his daughter, who I assume is Tilda. The food is amazing. Fresh, healthy, local. Happy staff and just an all-around wonderful place for a great meal. He gave me a piece of the bread pudding just out of the oven which is delicious beyond words, and I had to get a piece to go.
