As others have mentioned, walking into this place is like walking into a museum exhibit from the 1970s. The decor, from the booths to the lampshades, seem like they haven't changed in decades and are in excellent condition. The tables have tops that have obviously been replaced at some point, as they aren't the expected laminate, but otherwise it's like going back in time. We were looking for a traditional breakfast place open on a weekday (rather than a bagel shop or a place that only sells breakfast sandwiches), and this fit the bill. Service was efficient and attentive. They have a large array of menu items, but we both chose to get the breakfast burrito, without the meat. There was a bit too much potato inside for our taste, but others may prefer it that way. The side of salsa that came with it was delicious and made up for any lack of seasoning when we removed the salty meat. The last couple of times I was disappointed and yesterday was the worst!! Was NOT happy with them at all! I had the manager come over and an old lady came and I told her my pork was hard as a rock and I was showing her with the fork and she had the nerve to say "Well we have to cook it" And basically walked away! Parking is a little tight, but the place was packed for a good reason (why we stopped during our lunch break while traveling to the area). Staff was super friendly & professional, and the food came out in lightning quick fashion. I had the Pressed French Dip Panini & Fries and my coworker had a Cheeseburger & Fries. People saying that place looks very dated - isn't that the whole point of the vibe of a diner? I am so used to all diner looking so similarly that I didn't even notice. We sprung up in here with a group of friends after coming up to enjoy some away-from-city weekend time. The day was cold and rainy and dreary so it was nice to warm up with some hot tea and have some lunch. I was with my dog and though I tried my hardest to maybe skirt around it and ask them if my well-behaved fur baby (in the process of becoming a service dog too, by the way), could come in too, I was shut down respectfully by the two hostesses in the front, the service otherwise was very good. So good that I was impressed. They allowed for me to quickly order a sandwich for my husband who decided to stay in the car with the dog (I think they felt bad), and they brought the sandwich out super fast. Kingston, NY - such a great diner! The food is excellent, plentiful, and prices are super. No wonder it was still very busy at almost 2pm on a Sunday. We ordered the souvlaki combo platter, Dietz chicken sandwich deluxe, and a short stack of buttermilk pancakes. All very good, with plenty of leftovers to take home. The service is quick yet diligent, and the owner was there to personally greet customers. There is a spacious outdoor patio, which was nicely decorated (we came in early November so it was autumn and Halloween themed). My only gripe is that the ladies' bathroom was not the cleanest on the occasion we visited, which makes me wonder... Dietz shares(?) a parking lot with Deising's Bakery. My Lox+ toasted Bagel "Delux" had ALL the trimmings in pieces. Instead of perfect onion circles, they were like cut in fours, the "Delux" Lox plate included peppers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, instead of capers (which I don't eat anyway) these folks use pimento-stuffed olives ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and the tomatoes, were perfect as you would expect them- sliced. All this on a large bed of iceberg lettuce¯\_(ツ)_/¯. It's how Dietz does it. If only my server took what I initially told her I wanted- which was 'lox, on toasted bagel, tomato and onions and cream cheese'. THAT'S IT. So much food was wasted. But, I loved my freshly-made Vanilla Egg Cream. My drink was refreshing- even in almost 30° weather, wasn't neither too sweet nor bland and the vanilla taste was pure and hubs enjoyed his waffle. It's an absolutely amazing place to eat... If you can get inside... We order here from DoorDash all the time. We have never ever had a bad meal from here. The menu is humongous! Some of our favorites are the Leo omelette, (lox, onions, and tomatoes), the chili, (amazing, with just a little bit of spice to it,) as well as the roast pork loin, and the pot roast. Both are beyond delicious, the gravy is very good as well, and it's not too thick or too thin, and the pork loin comes with a fantastic stuffing. For our sides, we absolutely love the creamy coleslaw, the pickled beets, which also come with onions, and even the applesauce is delicious. Also, on everything, the portions are immense, and we always get at the very least, two meals out of one dish. The shakes are large, thick, and just how you would imagine a Diner shake to be. My partner's favorite is the strawberry shake. There are pieces of real strawberry in it. The one reason we are taking away a star, is because it is not handicapped accessible We went to eat at the restaurant the other day, and there were no ramps. There were two sets of steps in the front of the restaurant. They said they would help us up the steps in the back of the restaurant, but my partner, who is handicapped, did not feel comfortable using them. Stopped in here on our way to Howe Caverns based on some reviews we saw. The place was busy definitely a local favorite with staff on a first name basis with customers. We were promptly seated in a booth and looked through the extensive menu. They have an all day menu which made ordering that much harder. My partner opted with the croissant eggs Benedict and I got the shaved beef sandwich, I switched the cheese to cheddar and added cheddar to my fries as well. When the food came we were a little surprised to see they put the hollandaise sauce on top of the croissant which made it less of a sandwich and more of a traditional eggs Benedict, so a tip for anyone getting this, ask for the sauce on the side. The beef sandwich, while flavorful, was a bit dry, some au jus on the side would have been clutch. All in all the food was ok, probably wouldn't go out of my way for again next time I venture upstate. read more

The chicken noodle soup was excellent. The house salad was fine. Carrot cake excellent. Service very good. The prime rib - horrible. I love diners but I also live by a simple rule. In diners, stick to burgers, breakfast and dessert. If you stray from that, you will probably not be happy. They are simple restaurants for simple food. I strayed and I paid, but more on "paid" in a moment. I ordered the prime rib medium. The first attempt was shoe leather well done. How that was even served to me was amazing. Nobody noticed that it was insanely well done? The second attempt was sort of kind of medium but it was still tough and dry. This is why you stick to burgers in a diner. Let's just say that this place is not a fine steakhouse. So I sent it back after I ate the salad and soup that came with the meal and before the entree. After two attempts, I decided not to eat dinner there. In a lifetime, I am sure that I have sent a good number of meals back. This was the first time where they charged me a la carte for the soup and salad when I did not eat the entrée. Not that big a deal and I just paid the check, but it does tell you something about the owner. It's a nice looking diner but I would not even go back for a burger or breakfast. I know it's a little thing but you shouldn't charge a la carte when the entrée is sent back because it was terrible. It was not sort of terrible. It was terrible. Here is a little business tip for the owner. This is what you say when you serve and re-serve a terrible meal. "I am so sorry and embarrassed that your prime ribs were both terrible. Please. Is there anything else I can get for you? If not, please here's a desert on me and of course no charge for the meal." That gets you a second chance with this customer. Your way, you will never get a second chance with this customer. In fact, what you got was a terrible review and all the review did was tell the story you wrote. One more thought. You should have come to the table to make nice. I saw you. You saw me. That's how to handle a terrible customer experience. Not by hiding near the register. read more
