Although the internet and google maps are helpful getting a ballpark idea planning a trip, I had specific needs that I didn't want to leave to random online booking - as we know how unpredictable results from the internet can be... I was traveling with 2 large dogs, so not only did I need pet friendly hotels, but ones that allowed large breeds. I also didn't want to incur pet fees and needed the hotels to be right off my route since I didn't want to add many miles to my already long trip. The Austin AAA agent was not only courteous but extremely patient with finding the perfect solutions - in fact travel went as smoothly as possible for such a long trip. Then, when I had to return to Texas from New Hampshire, again, I contacted the local AAA New Hampshire office. One of my main concerns for the trip back was hitting bad weather and driving conditions since it was December and my original route would have taken me through the Midwest lakes region (Buffalo in the winter...not a good idea!). They immediately knew the right alternate route to take to avoid the stormy blizzards and weather I may have hit by taking my original route, booked the tough to find hotel reservations, and got the whole trip planned quickly and efficiently. I clearly did not read the fine print carefully enough when I signed up, but now I'm stuck with a $325 surcharge on top of a $190+ monthly premium--all because of hard braking in Austin traffic. Seriously?! If you've ever driven here, you know slamming on the brakes is practically a survival skill. The nerve of them to penalize me for avoiding accidents! Lesson learned: be very cautious with insurance companies and their so-called "savings programs." Progressive turned out to be just like the rest--quick to take your money and slow to offer real solutions. I'm officially over it.
