Way back when Dr. Marten performed rhino's he did a rhino on my daughter and her nose was way crooked, everyone could see it, however Dr. Marten took NO accountability for it, insisting that it looked straight to him. This was my poor daughters first surgery AND she woke up DURING surgery while he was still hacking away, she was in GREAT pain during and after the surgery! When we insisted that is was crooked now, when it wasn't crooked to begin with, she just wanted her nose shortened and a small hump shaved, he would not speak with us however he had his attorney who works IN HIS OFFICE write us a letter to cease and desist from contacting him. I see now that he no longer performs rhinos, only facial surgery, which is great, but I wish he would have discontinued before we got in that mess with him. read more

I am very picky and particular about my face. So I put 4 years into research for a doctor for early maintenance face lift. I asked numerous doctors all over the country. And they all had one name for me. Dr. M . So I flu in San Francisco to meet him in person. Fast forward I am 4 weeks after surgery and could not be happier. He is truly caring doctor And artist . He made me feel as I am member of his family so did every stuff member . I stayed in overnight care suit and my nurse Linda is the best nurse in USA. I did not know nurses like her exist . I had a great experience with Dr. Marten back in 2009. I was in my 30s but I had droopy eyelids. I looked perpetually sleepy and it impeded my vision. He gave me his recommendation; a thoughtful long-term plan and much better than ideas I heard from the other surgeons I interviewed. I appreciated his demeanor and his office felt safe and comfortable. But most importantly, his work looked beautiful and natural. Better yet, it has held up nicely over the last 12 years. I'm still very irritated that in 2006 I met with Dr Marten and told him what I wanted. When I woke up, my eye lids were gone, my eyebrows were in a different place, which I did NOT ask for, and the bags under my eyes were encouraged. I have a "construction" around my head, which we did not discuss, that hurts in the back of my head all the time. Since my eyebrows were moved down by my nose, I now have the resulting skin creases between my eyes. He did what HE thought would look better instead of what I asked him to do. When he took notes, it was apparently about what he preferred instead of what I asked for. This was not what I expected from a man with such great purported credentials. I was so unhappy about it, I never went back. I think of him every time I look in the mirror and every time the back of my head hurts. I should have stuck with La Jolla Plastic Surgery. read more

Dr. Marten destroyed my looks in 2015. My feminine features are now flat and masculine. My life completely changed after this butcher altered my face shape, pulled my skin down, my neck is very skinny and looks like I was strangled. My head is too big for my neck. 65 year old female orthodontist, Texas--I have been meaning to write this review as I am 10 mos. out of a face/neck lift. What brought me to the Marten Clinic of Plastic Surgery was daily seeing photos of myself with my patients posted on the "Wall of Smiles"--"braces-off" bulletin board in my office. I was slowly able to see the effects of aging in my face and neck with the progression of photographs, to the point that I began to dread facing the camera. Then I suddenly I remembered the piece of paper I had with Dr. Marten's name/phone number. Twenty years ago a plastic surgeon friend who practiced in Oklahoma City while I was doing my residency there had given it to me and told me to keep it in case I ever wanted to have my face "done". The OKC plastic surgeon highly recommended his fastidious technique and the use of fat cells--and told me that Dr. Marten had many "doctors" for his patients. He is indeed an artist and perfectionist in the world of plastic surgery. Not a day goes by in my orthodontic practice that a new patient--usually an adult new patient--doesn't stare at me and finally compliment me on "how beautiful I am". At first, I didn't handle the compliments very well and was at a loss of words. However, now I have trained myself to smile and say, "Thank you." What a life changing experience!!! I never anticipated Dr. Marten's surgery would have such a positive impact on my life and how people perceive me. Another important factor, related to my medical history, was to prevent the "cycle nausea" that I usually have after a general anesthesia is administered. I get the distinct impression YOU are the hack and have not one jot of a clue as to Dr. Marten, his skills, knowledge, reputation OR results. That said, I will provide MY review, based on actual experience, as I had a lower SMAS facelift, neck lift, upper eyelid bleph and fat injections done by Dr. Marten in August, 2012. I am female, 57 years old, and my biggest issue - sagging jowls - has been completely resolved. I now enjoy a very defined jawline and beautiful profile. Dr. Marten also did a conservative upper eyelid bleph that is looking excellent already. Dr. Marten suggested fat injections to numerous areas of my face, and while I'm only 6 weeks post, I have had no issues with uneven swelling or healing. The fat has completely rejuvenated my face, taking me from a 57-yr-old's face to someone in their late 30s. I especially love the fat placed in my lips. Dr. Marten also placed fat in my hands and did a superb job of blending it from the wrist into my fingers. My hands look awesome - no more bones, veins or knuckles showing. I had a facelift with Dr. Marten a year ago. Words can't describe what an incredible job that he did. I went in for several consultations with Dr. M prior to my surgery, each time expressing what kind of results that I wanted-- I wanted to look like myself, but thinner and without the saggy neck. It's as if he is a psychic---He gave me exactly what I wished for. I look like a much better looking version of my pre-surgery self. It's hard to believe that adding fat to a face can actually make it look slimmer, but that's exactly how it is for me--my cheeks now have a great definition. The few people that I've told about my surgery are amazed, saying that they would have never in a million years guessed that it was a facelift. The scars are so well hidden that they have to be pointed out with a finger pointing directly to them and the person has to be so close you can feel their breath. I am told by another friend who went to him that they disappear even further in time. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Marten was a complete gentleman. He exercised so much patience with me in answering a multitude of questions about his technique and the recovery process, painting a very realistic picture of what I should expect. This didn't end with the surgery--afterwards he was there 100% of the time, even when I had some minor issues that I was worried about (they disappeared, as he said they would). The staff in his office is incredible--very friendly and efficient. They operate like clockwork and are all consummate professionals. To the patient who is complaining about her results a month out, I would say that you need to wait at least four months before deciding anything, and the results will still get better over the course of a year. I really don't see how you can give him a negative review when the two 70+ page booklets that he wrote go into detail and tell you what to expect in terms of recovery. Certainly you can't expect anything at one month after. I actually looked bad for about 6 weeks and improved after that, although it was slowly for the first few months. If you had asked me at one month, I would have said "never again," but there is no way that he deserves a bad review until you have given it time to heal. You are doing people a disservice by turning people away from a doctor who can possibly change their life for the better. read more

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Marten. In December I had my neck, face, eyes, and a mini forehead lift plus fat injections. Oh, plus dermabrasion! I love the results! Lucy, giving Dr. Marten two stars because you do not like your appearance one-moth post op is unfair. Dr. Marten set the gold standard on patient preparation for what to anticipate . He gives each patient a booklet that not only describes preparation and recovery in detail. He gives advice to family members and answers questions that one might not have even thought to ask. Fat transfer is a detailed process and includes moving a canula back and fourth and over filling. In a couple months iyou will have a softer, more youthful look. At one one i heard my friend's saying she was a beautiful girl why did she do this to herself. At four months they wished tto have hit done. Dr. Marten is the surgeon's surgeon He is a guest instructor to doctors's world wide. I have not been a patient of Dr. Marten - however I did set up an appointment for a consultation. For the consultation I had to book almost a year out ...I thought it was a little ridiculous but figured I could just wait. About two months before my appointment I received a call from his staff asking to push out the appointment for 6 weeks - I thought this was a little crazy since I had been waiting so long - but agreed to do so. Today I received another call from his staff stating that my mid march appointment needed to be cancelled (because he booked somebody else in surgery) and that I could be re-scheduled for mid June. When I make appointments with clients I honour them. This disrespectful behavior is completely unacceptable. If he did not have time to take on new patients I should have been told that at the onset. Instead - I was made to wait for over a year and then pushed aside. I would recommend not making any consultation appointments with this doctor. Clearly he does not honour his commitments - which is a bad place to start for such an important process. read more

I had some facial work done in 2001 by Dr. Marten. It has held up really well and it didn't change my appearance other than giving me a more youthful version of myself. I researched plastic surgeons for a year before I committed to Dr. Marten. Including two in L.A. that do work for celebrities. I found out through third party sources that some of his patients are also plastic surgeons. If that doesn't speak to his skills I don't know what does. He is one of the leading MDs in his profession and well respected by his peers. I'm close to 70 now and still look like I'm in my fifties I'm told. He's an artist and really wants his patients to feel and look better. He never does too much and is a master at fat transfers and lectures all over the world about them. I have never evaluated or recommended anyone or anything before on the web. However for Dr. Timothy Marten there really should be 6 stars instead of 5 as a top rating. He is an extraordinary doctor. He was recommended to me by friends in the medical profession on the East Coast who told me he is one of the top five plastic surgeons in the United States. I had interviewed three other doctors before talking with Dr. Marten but never felt that I could trust my health and my face to them. After my meeting with Dr. Marten which lasted one and a half hours I knew I had found the right doctor. I was sent home from that meeting with a document of over 100 pages with before-and-after pictures and most compellingly detailed explanations of the procedures to be done comparing and contrasting the approach Dr. Marten would take with those of other surgeons. Dr. Marten has his own surgery center thus ensuring the quality of everything related to any procedure he does. He is not only a brilliant and supremely skilled doctor he is also clearly cares for his patients and is keenly aware of the life-changing effects his work can have. Most of my co workers my age (43) and older have already asked for his contact information. I have to say that Dr Marten is the most professional Plastic Surgeons that I have ever seen. He only cares about his Profession and his Patients. He is one of the only plastic surgeons left that does not rely on a fancy website, does not need to spend day and night on Real self answering questions to drum up business. He does not need a fancy Instagram or Facebook page. He does not need a fancy press agent to go out and get him gigs on second rate TV shows, and get him published in second rate magazines. I spent 3-years researching and interviewing plastic surgeons in southern California; and Dr. Marten's name kept coming up as the 'gold standard' for face/neck lifts. For the first 2-years I refused to even see him, saying, 'I'm not traveling to San Francisco and spending 8-nights in a hotel to have a face lift!' But, ultimately I didn't feel comfortable with anyone close to home and felt I owed it to myself to have a consultation with Dr. Marten. I had to wait 6-months for an appointment....but I'm delighted I did!! My neck looks amazing, I have a defined jaw line again, and my face looks 'like me....just about 8-10 years younger!' Which was exactly what I wanted. My friends can't believe the day after surgery I had no bandages and was able to wash my hair! Yes, I was swollen and black and blue, but that improved every day; and now 4-weeks after surgery all the black & blue is gone, my scars are healing beautifully (I have short hair and you hardly notice them). I can't tell if all the swelling is gone....but, I hope so....I love my results. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Marten and his staff. After meeting with him the first time and reading all the materials he gave me, I had more questions and made a second appointment with him. He never rushed me and addressed all 4-pages of my questions. Britini was incredibly helpful and patient....she's quite the organizer of all the minutia you need to handle before/after the surgery. Try your very best to get Lynda as your aftercare nurse. She is whip smart, kind and will act as your advocate if needed. I ended up having her for 3-nights after the surgery and I was so happy I did. No matter how much your spouse/friend cares about you, they are not going to willingly stay up all night changing cold compresses every 15-minutes, and giving you medication. Pop for the aftercare for at least 1-full day after release. You won't be sorry. I am not a patient of this Doctor's. I would have liked to be but the response time and how you are treated during phone calls and emails is really horrible. I emailed and left a message and no response. Then I called the office and left a message no call back. I even told them I was willing to wait almost 2 years for surgery when I had called. Im sure he is great doctor and he came recommended but all I can say is your staff is a representation of you. If they seem uncaring to you as a patient then most people will feel the doctor also shares these views. I have spoken to the best Doctors in California and NYC. I have even had some doctors personally call me to talk to me. So to me if seems these doctors do care so much more about patients then Dr. Marten. If it takes so long to even take my money to hold a time for surgery god know what would happen if something went wrong with the surgery once it happened. I had a facelift by Dr.Timothy Marten a few years ago, and I can tell you first hand from my own experience that I have never been happier with my neck, and facelift with fat injections as I am today. I can tell you my friends try to find a scar from my face lift , and they search and search and never are able to find it. I had put off making a decision for a neck lift for five years. I knew I needed to deal with this but was terrified of the actual procedure. Having surgery is very risky and I also had numerous fears: what if something went wrong, what if I regretted the procedure, what if it was botched? Meeting Dr. Marten and talking with him made me realize that he was the only doctor to go with and that I was in extremely capable hands. When I arrived for the surgery, I was still concerned about the actual procedure and he was very reassuring and extremely gentle. His professionalism was evident every step of the way. The recovery was much easier than I imagined and the results are amazing. I wasn't ready five years ago and somewhat regret waiting so long, but I am so pleased with the results. I also appreciate that he requires a full medical work-up by my personal physician, complete lab work and everything necessary to make sure I was ready for surgery.
